Iva Fern Stewart, Miss
Mar 13, 1909 - Mar 28, 2006

Miss Iva Vern Stewart, 97, an industrious farmer and homemaker, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006.

Ida was born March 13, 1909, the middle child of three children born to Lydia and Tom Stewart. She graduated from Corsicana High School in 1930 and went off to business school in Tyler. After completing business school, jobs were scarce due to the Depression, so she went back home to Pursley and with her sister's help decided to try farming and ranching. She liked to tell people that she wore out three tractors over the years getting the plowing done. Her "can do" attitude, determination and perseverance helped her succeed at whatever she did. Gardening, sewing and quilting were tasks she enjoyed and took pride in. When someone wanted to buy vegetables from the garden or one of her quilts, it made her day.

Iva was a longtime member of Pursley Church of Christ and a member of Westhill Church of Christ after moving to Corsicana.

She is survived by her niece, Mary Jane Henderson; nephews, Frank Stewart and John Terry Stewart; and numerous great and great-great-nieces, nephews and cousins. Iva was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Evan "Whit" Stewart; and sister, Audrey Stewart.

The family would like to thank special caregivers Mary Taylor, Sheila Goff and Charlene Weston. The family also wants to thank Heritage Oaks Retirement Village and her friends there for helping make her feel at home the past four years.
