Written in Memory of a Real True Friend, Mrs. Ruby Brown who
died February 2, 1932.
The deceased was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Reeagan.
She was born August 26, 1906. She was born and reared at Montfort.
She became a Christian and joined the Baptist church at the age of
fifteen years. She only lived a short life, just twenty-five years
and five months. But she leaves many friends and a host of
relatives, who mourn her early departure. To know her was to love
her. She was an obedient daughter, a faithful wife, a kind and
loving mother, a thoughtful sister and an affectionate friend. Being
so devoted to her home and God she was very patient in her
temptations and trials. God says in His blessed book he would not
give us more than we could withstand. So our Ruby was taken. Why she
was taken so young, we cannot understand. Though God has a purpose
for all things. So He says, "Well done, they good and faithful
servant, enter now into the joys of the Lord. Thou hast been
faithful over a few things, I will make you a ruler over greater
things."
The deceased was buried at Bazette. The remains was laid to rest
beneath a bower of beautiful flowers by the side of her fathers tomb
who went on two years before. it is our loss, but heaven's gain.

Reagan and Sharles Alvin, a mother Mrs. C. W. Reagan; sisters, Mrs.
Pearl Holloway, Mrs. Annie Griffin, Mrs. Jesie Mitcham, Mrs. Hattie
Frazier; a twin brother, Ray Reagan and a host of people

ROANE WOMAN DIED IN LOCAL
HOSPITAL BURIAL AT BAZETTE
Mrs. Ruby Brown, aged 25 years, wife of Floyd Brown of the Roane
community, died in the Corsicana Hospital and Clinic Tuesday night
at 11 o’clock, and the funeral services will be held from the
Baptist church at Bazette Thursday morning at 11 o’clock with
interment in the Bazette
cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, an infant son, mother, Mrs. C. W. Reagan,

ROANE WOMAN WAS BURIED THURSDAY BAZETTE CEMETERY
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Brown, 25, wife of Floyd Brown, of
Roane, who died in the Corsicana Hospital and Clinic Tuesday night
at 11 o’clock were held from the Baptist church at Bazette Thursday
morning at 11 o’clock with interment in the
Bazette cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, an infant son, mother, Mrs. C. W. Reagan,

ELLISON - Ennis, Tex., Nov. 19 - William Ellison commander of
Camp James Longstreet, united Confederate Veterans, died here last
night, aged 66 years. He enlisted at Columbus, Miss., and several
through the war in Walthall's Brigade. The remains will be taken to
Bazette tonight for burial.

LONGVIEW — Services for Faye Irene Bunch Field, 99, of
Longview, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at First
United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael Schutz and the Rev.
David Lindwall officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in
Bazette Baptist Cemetery
in Kerens, Texas, under the direction of Welch Funeral Home, 4619
Judson Road.
Mrs. Field passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011, in Longview.
Mrs. Field was born February 18, 1912, in Powell, Texas, to Henry
William and Alice Vivian Howard Bunch. She taught Bible at Kilgore
Junior College and Longview High School. She taught English at North
Texas State University and University of Houston.
After retiring from teaching in her 60s, Mrs. Field began a second
career as an author and authored five books and more than 600
published articles. She was also an accomplished book reviewer,
giving monthly book reviews at Longview First United Methodist
Church. She also taught a Sunday school class at First United
Methodist Church for more than 60 years.
Mrs. Field was honored by the city of Longview with "Faye Field Day"
in January 2001 and was a 2010 "Star Over Longview" recipient
honored by Longview Regional Medical Center. She was a presenter at
the East Texas Baptist University Writers' Conference in 2005, 2006
and 2007. In 2006, she, along with her late husband, received the
Cornerstone Award for outstanding service to Longview ISD.
Mrs. Field is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and
Gliceria Field; granddaughter, Juliet Belen and husband, John;
grandson, Tommy Samuel Field and wife, Emily; two
great-grandchildren, John Michael Belen and Jessica Faye Belen;
sister, Vivian "Bunnie" Bunch Reed; nieces, Becky Supercinski,
Sandra Hancock and Peggy Holt; and numerous cousins and great-nieces
and great-nephews.
Mrs. Field was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, T.G.
Field; one brother, Roy Bunch; and three sisters, Esther Bunch
Washam, Ethel Bunch Pevehouse and Dollie Bunch Wilson.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Cassie Evans and Barbara
Cruea, Beacon Hospice and caregiver, Brenda Jeffery.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Samuel Field, John Belen, Lee Supercinski,
Frank Supercinski, Edward Aleman, Raymond Keese and Andy Williams.
The family requests memorials be made to Asbury House Child
Enrichment Center, 320 S. Center Street, Longview, TX 75601.

Audrey was born in Corsicana, Texas, to the late Clint Sheppard and
Maud Ellen Williams Sheppard. She graduated from Noth Texas

Corsicana; one daughter Mrs. MINNIE FOSTER of Houston, a grandson

BURIAL ON FRIDAY
Thomas L. Ross, aged 70 years, resident of this city for the past 30
years, died early Thursday Morning at his home, 2305 West Seventh
Avenue.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock from the
chapel of the Corley funeral home and interment will be made in the
Hamilton cemetery.
Rev. H. G. Weathers, pastor of the Full Gospel church will conduct
the rites.
Surviving are his wife of Corsicana; one daughter, Mrs. Minnie
Foster of Houston; one grandson, Otis Foster of Houston; and two

Davis, a retired farmer, was a native and lifelong resident of
Purdon area, living all of his life on the farm where he was born.

J. M. Elrod Dies Early Wednesday
J. M. Elrod, 80, pioneer resident of the Drane community, died in
the Corsicana Hospital and Clinic Thursday morning.
He was a native of Texas and resided at Brushy Creek and Drane all
of his live. He was a farmer.
Surviving are a son, Wayne Elrod; a granddaughter, Betty Elrod; a
grandson, Jackie Elrod, all of Drane; a sister, Mrs. Sallie Mills,
Houston, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the McCammon
Chapel. Burial will be in the
Campbell cemetery
near Drane.
The rites will be conducted by Rev. Morgan Garrett, pastor of the
Central Methodist church, and Rev. J. F. Adams, pastor of the Black
Hills Methodist church.

Former Guard At Huntsville Dies
KERENS, July 9—(Spl.)—W. J. Hammett, 83, former Texas prison guard
for 15 years, died at his home north of Kerens Sunday afternoon
following an extended illness, Hammett was a life-long resident of
this area and was engaged in farming except while serving with the
prison guard units at Huntsville and Sugarland.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 4 p.m. from the Inmon
Funeral Chapel with burial in the
Bazette Baptist cemetery.
The rites will be conducted by Rev. Frank Gilliham, pastor of the
First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of Kerens, two daughters, Mrs. Essie Mae
Johnson, Palestine, and Mrs. Garrett Holcomb, Trinidad; two sisters,
Mrs. Ben Johnson, Kerens, and Mrs. George Enoden, Washington, D. C.;
10 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren, and 25
great-grandchildren.

Myradell (Warren) Knapp
Apr 29, 1923 - Nov 4, 2012On, Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, Jewell Myradell Warren Knapp, of
Blooming Grove, passed away at Navarro Regional Hospital in
Corsicana, at the age of 89.
Myradell was born in Hillsboro, Texas to Claude Carroll Warren
and Alice "Allie" (Barnett) Warren on April 29, 1923. When her
mother died in 1929, her father moved the family back to Blooming
Grove and that is where she grew up surrounded by the citizens of a
small town who, in the absence of her mother, cared for her and
nurtured her into adulthood. She never forgot their kindness and
often related stories to the family about these special people in
her life.
Myradell, also known as "Wop" to her friends and Myra in the
workplace, graduated from Blooming Grove High School in 1940. While
in school, she loved the game of basketball and scored many points
for the "Lions". After graduation, she played semi-pro softball in
Ennis for K. Wolens. When the war started, Myradell worked for
Consolidated Aircraft in Ft. Worth and, as a lot of women did in
World War II, worked as a maintenance worker on airplanes and drove
a forklift.
On August 3, 1945, Myradell married Joseph Greer Knapp of Kaufman,
Texas. After living in San Angelo for a few years, they made their
home in Fort Worth, where they raised their son and daughter.
At the age of 49, and after her children were grown, Myradell
decided to fulfill a lifelong dream and became a nurse after
attending St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Fort Worth. She worked
as a geriatric nurse in Ft. Worth for Stanford Convalescent Center
and then, after moving to Corsicana, worked for Corsicana Nursing
Home until her retirement. She loved her time as a nurse and her
patients came first.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her
brothers, J.D. "Bud" Warren and wife Roberta Baggett Warren and
George Inman "Buster" Warren and wife Mary Hill Stevenson Warren.
Surviving are a son, Joseph Warren Knapp and wife Nancy of Benbrook;
and daughter, Karen Knapp Rost and husband, Pete of Blooming Grove.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Shari Knapp Smith and husband,
John of Springfield VA; Amy Rost Munn and husband Dustin of Maypearl
and Shelley Rost Kruse and husband Micah of Fort Worth;
great-grandchildren, Carson Smith, Sarah Munn, Sabrina Munn and
Michael Munn; step-great-grandchildren, Justin Munn and wife Kristi,
Lauren Munn, and Madison Munn. She was so looking forward to the
birth of great-grandchildren, Olivia and Carter Kruse who are due in
December. She is also survived by her beloved niece, Lynn Warren
Matthews of Dawson.
Myradell loved her family and always looked forward to the family
get-togethers. She loved her "Class of 1940" and for many years,
enjoyed meeting with them each October for Homecoming. She was a
charter member of the Blooming Grove Historical Society and recently
joined the members in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication to
the museum building. She was a member of Birchman Baptist Church in
Fort Worth.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Tuesday,
November 6, 2012 at the Corley Blooming Grove Chapel. Graveside
services are scheduled for 2:30PM on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at
Rose Hill Cemetery in
Blooming Grove with Brother Dan Rogers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blooming Grove

Eugene Harris

Dr. L. Eugene Harris, 80, of Marshall, died March 1, 1993, in
Longview.
Services were Wednesday, March 3, at First United Methodist Church
in Marshall, with Dr. Jack W. Shoultz, the Rev. Pat Day and the Rev.
Bill Cunningham officiating. Burial was in Colonial Gardens.
Sullivan Family of Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
He was born Nov. 25, 1912, in Navarro County, the son of Charles B.
and Effie Olivia Harris. He attended Eureka public schools and
Mildred High School. He earned his bachelor of science degree and
teaching certificate from Stephen F. Austin University. Other
graduate and seminary studies were done at Southern Methodist
University, Dallas and Illif School of Theology, Denver, Colo. He
received his honorary doctorate of divinity from Texas Wesleyan
University. He married Rubye Lee Crenshaw on Aug. 4, 1929, in
Malakoff. He was granted his local preacher's license on May 18,
1933, by the Methodist Church, Navarro County, Bishop Hay presiding.
He served the Texas and Southwest Texas Conferences for the next 40
years and was pastor of the First United Methodist Church in
Marshall from 1962 to 1969. In addition to his many pastorates, he
served as district superintendent of the San Angelo District.
Dr. Harris promoted Boy Scouts of America in all the churches he
served and was chaplain to the World Scout Jamboree in Irvine,
Calif. He served on the national committed of Philmont Scout Ranch
in New Mexico and received the Silver Beaver Award in the area scout
meeting in San Antonio. He organized and was the first president of
the Crippled Children's Society of east Texas. The first office (a
converted hamburger stand) on U.S. 80 in Longview served Gladewater,
Longview and Kilgore. Now known as the Kilgore Treatment Center, it
serves all ages and conditions. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and
received his 50-year pen in Marshall. He served as chaplain of the
Grand Lodge of Texas and was a member of the Red Cross of
Constantine. Other activities include the war bond drive during

of Corpus Auto Sales for many years. He was a member of Second
Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Cassie
McCraw, and a sister, Christine Hansen.

Oklahoma City; one son, Robert McCraw of Corpus Christi; two

Funeral services for John L. Caffy, 79, was held Tuesday at 3 p.m.

A retired farmer, Mr. Caffy died early Monday in the home of a
Corsicana daughter after an extended illness. He had lived in the
Angus community the past 54 years. He was born in Murphreesboro,
Tenn.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. John L. Caffy, Corsicana; two
daughters, Mrs. Avin O. Martin, Corsicana, and Mrs. J. D.
Youngblood, Fort Worth; two grandchildren, Kay Martin and John L.
Youngblood, one brother, F. P. Caffy, Angus; one sister, Mrs. Lannie
Becton, Murphreesboro, Tenn., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Alvin O. Martin Dies Tuesday Of Heart Attack
Alvin O. Martin, 40, native of Corsicana, died of a heart attack
Tuesday night after collapsing at the Southwestern Oil and refining
Company at Corpus Christi, where he was employed.
Martin was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital. W. A.
Gillelord, justice of the peace, returned a coroner's verdict of
death due to a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held from the Fifth Avenue Church of Christ
here Friday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the
Hamilton cemetery.
The rites will be conducted by C. B.Thomas, Corpus Christi Church of
Christ minister, assisted by Claude B. Holcomb, minister of the
local church.
Martin was reared in Corsicana, the son of Mrs. J. E. Martin and the
late J. E. Martin. He has resided at Corpus Christi for the past 17
years.
He was a member of the Ayers Street Church of Christ, and active in
Masonic circles. He was a member and past master of the Corpus
Christi Lodge 189, A. F. and A. M.; a member of the Perham Chapter
91, R.A.M.; a member of the Corpus Christi Commandery 57, Knights
Templar; and past patron of Corpus Christi Chapter 354, Order
Eastern Star.

Christi; mother, Mrs. J. E. Martin, 507 North Twelfth street,

Grandma Whitner of Spring Hill died at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Obe Vest, of Brushy Prairie on Monday night, the 12th, and was
buried the next day in the
Dawson Cemetery. She leaves and aged husband, Uncle Bill
Whitener, and several children, all grown and married. Grandma has
been an invalid for a long time, but her sufferings and trials on
this old earth are over and we all sympathize with the bereaved
husband and children.

Mrs. W. D. (Annette) Mims, 64, of 620 South Fourteenth street, died

Native of Georgia, Mrs. Mims came to Corsicana as a small child and

Mertice Smith, 75, of Lanely, died Apr. 22, 1991, in Fairfield
Memorial Hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ricks Funeral Home Chapel,
with the Rev. Dwight Atchley officiating. Burial will be in Dew
Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Zelon R. Smith, and three
brothers, Otis Chapman, Arthur Chapman, Jr., and Gaines Chapman.
Survivors include two sisters, Dovie Gandy of Silas, Ala., and
Pauline Lambert of Columbia, Miss.; three brothers, Ottasee Chapman
and N. W. Chapman (Snooks), both of Gilbertown, Ala., and Alman
Chapman of Thibodaux, La.; one sister-in-law, Mrs., Pat (Ralph)
Smith of Teague; and several nieces and nephews.

Randall (Jack) Carter, 86, of Corsicana, was dead on arrival at
Memorial Hospital Sunday.
Service is 3 p.m. Wednesday in Calvary Baptist Church. Burial in
Woodland. The wake service is 7 p.m. tonight in Ross & Johnson
Mortuary.
He was a retired brick mason, a
World War I veteran and a member of
St. Andrews Lodge 7/8112.
He is survived by his wife, Nesree Carter, of Corsicana; two
sisters, Mamie Oaks and Clara McDaniels, both of Corsicana; and one
brother, Moses Carter, Jr., of Corsicana.
Pallbearers will be deacons of Calvary Baptist Church.
