Mrs. Buckner Dies Monday

Mrs. Jeffie Buckner, 77, native of Arkansas, long-time Navarro county resident, died in Memorial Hospital Monday morning.

Mrs. Buckner is the wife of B. Buckner, Route 1, Barry.

Other survivors are three sons, Thomas Buckner, Barry; Hillary Buckner, Fort Worth; and Enos Buckner, Blooming Grove; four daughters, Mrs. Mae Spicer, Dallas; Mrs. Ruby Payne, Barry; Mrs. Edna Hightower, Corsicana; and Mrs. Elsie Spivey, Houston; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Claudie Eddings, Ponca City, Okla., and other relatives.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete at Corley Funeral Chapel early Monday afternoon.

Tuesday Rites Mrs. Buckner

Funeral services for Mrs. Jeffie Buckner, 77, wife of B. Buckner, Route 1, Barry, were held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. from the Corley Chapel with burial in Resthaven cemetery.

The rites were conducted by Rev. Jim Gayle, pastor of Calvary Baptist church.

Mrs. Buckner, native of Arkansas, died in Memorial Hospital Monday morning.

Surviving are her husband, three sons, Thomas Buckner, Barry; Hillary Buckner, Fort Worth, and Enos Buckner, Blooming Grove; four daughters, Mrs. Mae Spicer, Dallas; Mrs. Ruby Payne, Barry; Mrs. Edna Hightower, Corsicana, and Mrs. Elsie Spivey, Houston; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Claudie Eddings, Ponca City, Okla., and other relatives.

Pallbearers were E. L. Slaughter, H. E. Slaughter, P. G. York, H. B. Currington, Curtis Henthorn and Servy Yawn.

Louise Bennett

Louise Palmer Bennett, 93, of Corsicana, died April 14, 1991, at Twilight Nursing Home.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home of Corsicana with the Rev. B. F. Risinger officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bennett was born Aug. 19, 1898 in Seguin.

She was a 50-year life member of the Eastern Star and was a Past Matron of the Eastern Star.

She was active in the Home Demonstration Club and was a charter member of the Oak Valley Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband D. B. (Bert) Bennett.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Doris Bennett of Corsicana; two granddaughters, Roxanne Parsons of San Antonio and Vicki Phillippi of Berlin, Wis.; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Palmer of Corsicana and Bill Palmer of Little Rock; and one sister, Nell Castles of Corsicana.

Pallbearers are B. B. Bennett, George Froecke, Corwin Whitfield, Val Fowler, Trey Carmichael and Bill Phillippi. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. G. T. Denson, Dr. Charles Brown, Marshall Weems, Verdell Dockery, Morgan Lowe, Willie Lewis, Owen Beamon and Joe Castles.

Mrs. C. P. Arp Dies in Temple

Mrs. Clarice P. Arp, 74, died Monday in Temple. A native of Monroe, La., she had lived in Temple since 1967.

The retired saleslady had worked for J. M. Dyer Co. and J. C. Penney Co. in Corsicana, and for J. C. Penney Cox in Mexia and Dallas.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. with graveside services following at Dresden Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, William G. (Bill) Arp of Cypress, Cal., two daughters, Mrs. Hazelle Mays and Mrs. Nelna Byrd, both of Temple, two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Reed of Dallas and Mrs. J. W. Varnell of Kemah, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Died Near Purdon Sunday.

George Wheat, aged 35 years, died at his home near Purdon Sunday night of typhoid fever and the remains were interred in the Younger cemetery yesterday afternoon.

The deceased is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Wheat of Purdon, and by his wife and three children.

MRS. LAURA WHEAT DIED AT PURDON; BURIAL ON SUNDAY

Mrs. Laura L. Wheat, aged 76 years, native Texan, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. B. Boyett, at Purdon Saturday. Funeral rites were held at the Purdon Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The rites were conducted by Rev. F. T. Fisher. Burial was in the Younger cemetery. Mrs. Wheat had resided in the Purdon community for the past 40 years.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mary Compton and Mrs. Boyett, both of Purdon, and Mrs. Delia Owens, Athens; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Edgar Butler, Autrey French, Jim Stockard, Drue Davis, Clarence Putman and Marshall Farmer.

TYLER (Spl.)�Funeral services for Glenwood Lee (Red) Henderson, 56, who died Wednesday Tyler after a brief illness, will be held at graveside Friday at 3 p.m. in the Younger Cemetery. The Rev. Burl Johnson of Corsicana will officiate.

Henderson, a retired field maintenance man with the Humble Oil Co. with 25 years' service, was born at Silver City and attended school there. He has lived most of his life in the Winnie area.

Survivors include three stepsons, Roger McCary and Billy Messner of Arlington and Eugene Watson of Winnie; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Donna Drauford of Koutze, and Mrs. Mary Simon of Stonewall; three brothers, J. C. of Waco, Victor of Houston and Aubrey Henderson; and one sister, Miss Frances Henderson of Tyler.

Henry Parker Herring, 1130 Dunton, Waco, died in Hillcrest Memorial Hospital in Waco Saturday morning.

Funeral services will be held from the McCammon Chapel Sunday at 2 p.m. with burial in the Younger cemetery near Purdon.

Herring, a native of the Dawson vicinity, had been a Waco city employe for the past 18 years.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Bill and Bruce Herring, all of Waco; four grandchildren, mother, Mrs. Dora Herring, Dawson; two brothers, Jim Herring, Waco, and Ollie Herring, Dawson.

Services for Dan Fraley, Texas State highway department employe, who died in Memorial hospital Tuesday morning, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Griffin Funeral Chapel. He died on his 32nd birthday.

The rites were conducted by Rev. B. W. Johnson with burial in the Younger cemetery at Purdon.

Surviving are his wife, 930 West Fifteenth avenue; a daughter, Lisa Fraley; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Fraley; two brothers, Louis and Douglas Fraley, all of Corsicana; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Folk, Corsicana; Mrs. Lina Woodard and Miss Frances Fraley, both of Waco; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Forshaw, Dawson, and other relatives.

Linda Brownfield, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. D. Brownfield of Purdon, died Monday morning at 7:30 o'clock. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock with burial in the Younger cemetery.

Surviving are the parents, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Brownfield, and Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Ford, all of Purdon.

Services for Lafford Floy French, 69, Dallas, who died Sunday in a Dallas hospital, will be from Corley Funeral Home Chapel, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. L. G. Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Younger Cemetery.

French, a Navarro Mills native, had lived in Dallas 5 years. He was a member of the Full Gospel Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lafford F. French, of the home; one son, Clarence Zale French, Dallas, three daughters, Mrs. Albert Wendland, Austin; and Sue and Betty M. French, both of Dallas; one brother, Joe P. French, Purdon; three sisters, Mrs. Allie Ellis, San Antonio; Mrs. Mable Smith, Malakoff; and Mrs. M. H. Howell, Corsicana; and six grandchildren.

Hold Services For Mrs. French

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie M. French, 88, were held at First Baptist church in Purdon Wednesday at 2 p.m. with burial in the Younger Cemetery. The Rev. Clifton Nauert, pastor, conducted. She was a native of Drane.

Mrs. French died Monday at Paulyne's Convalescent Home.

The widow of the late Sam H. French of Purdon, she was the oldest member of the church in which the service was held.

Surviving are two sons, A. H. French, Purdon, and Howe French, Corsicana; two daughters, Mrs. Ima Tadlock, Conway, Ark., and Mrs. Eura Powell, Beaumont; a brother, E. P. Campbell, Huntsville; a sister, Mrs. E. B. McDowell, Meridian; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Louis Owens, W. L. Norton, Leon Phillips, Albert Mosley, Dick Howard and Homer McNabb.

Funeral services for an infant son of Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Durbin of Rice, who died at the P. and S. Hospital Wednesday, were held Thursday afternoon at Rice where interment was made.

Services were 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Kerens, and the Rev. Glenn Benefield, the Rev. Larry Burden and the Rev. L. L. Conner officiated. Burial was in Long Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Paschal Funeral Home.

He was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Eureka and had lived most of his life in Kerens. He was a retired rancher.

He is survived by his wife, Ineta Andrews of Kerens; three sons, Quindell Andrews of Indiana, E. L. Andrews of Kerens and Nickey Andrews of Corsicana; three daughters, Patsy Allred of Corsicana, and Stella Jock and Ginger Spivey, both of Kerens; one brother, Doyle Andrews of Corsicana; five sisters, Ioma Perry of Kerens, Opal Coker of Navarro, and Lillie Bedford, Mamie Frame Smith and Edna McCaslin, all of Corsicana; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Walter Seago, 83, of Corsicana died April 28, 1990, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Corley Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Seago and the Rev. Howard Seago officiating. Burial will be in the Grange Hall Cemetery.

He was born April 20, 1907, in Enos, La., and had lived most of his life in Corsicana. He was a retired plumber, a veteran of World War 11 and a member of the Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Pearl Seago of Corsicana; three sons, Walter W. Seago of Dawson, Howard Seago of Houston, and Robert Seago of Elkhart; three daughters, Ann McClure of Mesquite, Laverne Dockery of Waco, and Shirley Tinson of Grand Prairie; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Claude McClure, Kenneth McClure, Mike McClure, Brian Seago, Ernest Douglas and Wayne Douglas.

Mrs. Susan M. Spence, aged 75 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ada Russell, in the Montfort community Friday night and the funeral services were held at Petty's Chapel Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment in the Corbet cemetery.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ada Russell ; Mrs. Mary Ware and Mrs. Sarah Tucker, both of Corsicana; and two sons, Fred R. Spence, Corsicana, and Roland Spence, Montfort.

The Funeral was directed by Corley-McMahon Funeral Home.

John A. Cry, Jr, 65, of Bellmead died Nov. 1, 1988 at his residence.

Graveside service was 1 p.m. today at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard, with Rev. Elmer Glazner officiating. Wade Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was a former resident of Mount Calm and Hubbard, and lived in Bellmead for 40 years. He was a retired driver for the Jarvis-Paris-Murphy Grain Co. of Waco and Hubbard. He is a former member of the First Baptist Church in Hubbard and served in the U. S. Air Force in World War 11.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Gertie Cry of Waco; a sister, Onie Prevatt of Waco.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Broadway Church of Christ in Gainesville. The Rev. Russell Bankes will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Griffin Roughton Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Burnie Henry of Corsicana; and one daughter, Annette Tatum of Corsicana.

Pallbearers will be Alfred Dickey, O. L. Marshall, E. L. Rodgers, Ray McCann. Mansel Norris, Sam Tharr and Bill McThail.

He was born July 19, 1909, in Houston, and had lived in Corsicana since 1978. He was a retired oil field driller and a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Billie Marie Farris of Duncan, Okla.; two sons, J. E. Parks of Russell, Kan., and A. D. Parks Jr.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, Sept. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Swalm Funeral Chapel, Ennis, with burial following at Myrtle Cemetery there. Swalm Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Trull was born Nov. 8, 1894, in Alabama, the daughter of Thomas L. and Martha Gann Teague who later moved to Corsicana. She was an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone for many years in Corsicana where she was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include one granddaughter, four grandsons, seven nephews and one niece.

She was born March 17, 1910, in Navarro County.

She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, LaVelle Denbow of Dallas and David Denbow of Fort Worth; three sisters, Ann Maggard of Corsicana, Mrs. Jimmie Brashear of Garland and Dorothy Smith of Dallas; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

L. Hayden Crawford, 92, of Corsicana, died Dec. 11, 1989, in Corsicana.

Graveside services were 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. E. F. Bohmfalk officiating. Corley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born November 1897, in Waco, and graduated from Waco High School. He was a 1824 graduate of Texas A&M University. He was a civil engineer who worked for various companies, including Gulf Oil and the bridge/highway design engineer for the Texas State Highway Department in Corsicana.

Survivors include a son, John Crawford of Corsicana; one daughter-in-law, Gayle Neeley Crawford of Corsicana; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Charles C. McQuiston, 110 S. 31st St., a retired salesman, died Sunday in Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Navarro county, a veteran of World War 1 and a member of First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Griffin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Potts officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

A. W. McQuiston, aged 78 years, resident of Corsicana and Navarro county for the past 45 years died at his home, 613 West Fourth avenue, Monday evening.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the First Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The rites will be conducted by Rev. W. R. Hall, pastor of the church.

Mr. McQuiston was engaged in the retail grocery business for a number of years and was connected with the Central Texas Grocery Company.

Funeral services for Mrs. A. W. McQuiston, 81, were held at 4:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at McCammon Chapel with interment following in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Andrew Byers, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiated.

Mrs. McQuiston died late Thursday afternoon at her residence, 613 West Fourth Avenue, where she had lived for the past 53 years. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian church.

Survivors are one son, Charles C. McQuiston; a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Evans, both of Corsicana, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

H.C. (Pete) Allen, 81, of Corsicana, died Feb. 25, 1989, in Denton.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Eugene E. Wood, the Rev. Carl Utley and John P. Shero officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Corley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born April 12, 1907, in Whitesboro. In January 1934, he came to Corsicana as assistant football coach and teacher. He later served as head football coach at Corsicana High School before becoming Drane Junior High School principal, where he served for 25 years. After retiring from the school business, he opened a law office in 1972, where he worked until November 1988. He was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as elder and Sunday School teacher for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Winnie Allen, of Corsicana; two sons, H.C.
Allen Jr., of Sunnyvale, and Joe Allen, U.S. Air Force stationed in Germany; three daughters, Ginger Allen, of Huntsville, Ann Williams, of Denton, and Sandra Reese, of Summerville, S.C.; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Johnson, of Whitesboro; 11 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. John H. (Irma Louise Galloway) Sullivan died April 5, 1989 in Dallas at Presbyterian Village North, where she had resided for a number of years.

Memorial services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Carl Utley officiating. Corley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born in White Oak, S.C., in 1890 and came to Texas with her parents when young. She lived most of her life in Corsicana. She was educated in the public schools of Corsicana and received her teaching certificate from what is now the University of North Texas. She taught school in Corsicana until her marriage in 1915 to John H. Sullivan, who preceded her in death in 1972. A son, John H. Sullivan Jr. died in 1978. She was an active member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, and served as president of the Sam Houston Elementary School PTA while her children attended school.

Survivors include children; Mrs. Wm. A. (Maraget) Wilborn of Houston; Bruce M. Sullivan of Corsicana; Dr. George H. Sullivan of Fort Worth; and Mrs. James D. (Louise) Yancey of Dallas; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Autra B. Green, 59, of Union City, Calif., died April 9, 1989 at his residence.

Services were Thursday in Union City.

He was born Aug. 8, 1929 in Corsicana. He was raised in Corsicana. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Green of Union City; one daughter, Sandra Gayle Green of Union City; one son, Autra B. Green Jr. of Union City; two sisters, Bertha Mae Rogers of Corsicana, and Besta Lee Sullivan of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, William Thomas Green of Clarksville, Ark.; and two granddaughters.

Jesse Lewis Cleveland, 91, formerly of Dawson, died April 7, 1989, in a Hubbard nursing home.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard. The Rev. Paul Thompson will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard.

He was a lifelong resident of the Dawson and Hubbard area. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a memer of the First Baptist Church in Dawson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linnie Pearl Cleveland in 1976.

He is survived by three daughters, Daphine Huckman of Victoria, Nancy Tankersley of Dallas and Wanda Harrison, both of Red Oak; three sisters, Nora Williams of Brownwood, and Jewell Little and Faye Townsend, both of Waco; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Bible class at the First Baptist Church of Dawson.

W. E. Lindsey, aged 58 years, a farmer of the Pursley community, died in the Houston hospital here yesterday, and the remains were taken to Pursley last night by private conveyance and were interred in the neighborhood cemetery there this morning.

Deceased was a good citizen and is survived by a wife and five children.

Mrs. Mahaley was born in Cleburne County, Ala. and was married to G. R. Mahaley of Rice in 1936. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Alabama.

Mrs. Neal, a school teacher, was a member of the Olive Grove Baptist Church where she all so served as a Sunday School teacher and class leader. She was a graduate of G. W. Jackson High School in Corsicana and attended Tillotson College in Austin where she received a Bachelor of Science degree.
Mrs. Neal also attended Navarro Junior College, Wayland Baptist College in Plainviel and Texas Southern University in Houston. She taught at Quitaque Elementary School in Quitaque, Tex., where she also served as principal, at Kearns Elementary School and Blooming Grove High School. She taught a total of 28 years.
Survivors include two sons, Horace and Jesse Neal of Blooming Grove; her mother, Mrs. Daisy Hawkins of Blooming Grove; a nephew, Gilbert Gregg of Denver, Col.; two aunts, Mrs. Lily Blanford and Mrs. Pearlie Bartee, and other relatives. Pallbearers will be cousins to the deceased.

Sam McGee, father of Mrs. D. P. Prince and Mrs. J. M. Parrish, who died near Terrell last Friday night, reached here Saturday night and interment took place in the Black Hills cemetery yesterday. The deceased had lived in this county for many years and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD THURSDAY FOR ROBERT M. SMITH

PROMINENT COTTON MAN DIED SUDDENLY WEDNESDAY MORNING

Funeral services for R. M. Smith, aged 59 years, native of Corsicana prominent cotton buyer here for many years, who died with a heart attack Wednesday morning at 8:30 o'clock, while sitting in an automobile near his office on East Collin street, where held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the family residence, with interment in Oakwood cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. W. R. Hall, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, assisted by Rev. J. W. Bergin, pastor of the First Methodist church, and Rev. Thomas Lenox, pastor of the First Christian church.

He had been a member of the Presbyterian church since he was 15 years old and had been a member of the Masonic lodge for a number of years. He was of a quie4t, retiring disposition, yet took an active part in the affairs of the city, always working for its advancement.

Mr. Smith had been a cotton buyer here for many years and was a member of the firm of Wood and Smith.

Surviving are his wife, three sons, Taylor Smith, Fort Stockton; January and Robert Smith, both of Corsicana; two daughters, Mrs. Lois Fleming and Mrs. Mary Byford, both of Corsicana; and four sisters, Mrs. Ben F. Guynes, Chatfield; Mrs. M. J. McMullen, Corsicana; Mrs. Allister Wills, Monroe, La., and Mrs. herbert Ferguson, Wichita Falls.
Active pallbearers were Jack Megarity, C. S. Wood, George Roxborough, Jim Nichols, Graham Dickson and Walter Castles.

Honorary pallbearers were cotton buyers and dealers.
The local Masonic lodge had charge of the ser5vices at the grave.

R. M. SMITH DIES SUDDENLY EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING

STRICKEN WITH HEART ATTACK NEAR HIS OFFICE IN BUSINESS SECTION

R. M. Smith, aged 59 years, native of Corsicana, and well-known cotton dealer here for many years died suddenly Wednesday morning about 8:30 o'clock with a heart attack while sitting in a car talking to Ab King, on East Collin street, near his office. Mr. Smith lived only a few minutes after he was stricken. He had complained of a hurting in his chest Tuesday, but had told associates Wednesday morning that he was feeling all right.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence and will be conducted by Rev. W. R. Hall, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, assisted by Rev. Thomas Lenox, pastor of the First Methodist church. Pallbearers will be Jack Megarity, C. S. Wood, George Roxborough, Jim Nichols, Graham Dickson and Walter Castles.

Honorary pallbearers will be cotton buyers and other dealers in cotton.

Mr. Smith was a member of the firm of Woods and Smith, cotton dealers.

Sharon Beatrice Williams-Hoch, 59, of Richardson, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. surrounded by family and loved ones.

Sharon was born Aug. 23, 1954 in Corsicana, the daughter of the late Donald Odell Williams and surviving mother, Mary Toogood Williams.

She was the second of five siblings, and lived with her family in Richland and Wortham as a young child, before the family moved to Corsicana.

Sharon was a student at James L. Collins Catholic School, and active in church activities at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She participated in Campfire Girls, Catholic Youth Organization, and attended Collins Junior High School for a time.

She chaired and coordinated city-wide March of Dimes fundraising campaigns, and volunteer numerous hours as a candy striper at Navarro County Memorial Hospital. Graduating in 1972 from Corsicana High School, she was active in student council and science and physics programs, and received the honor of representing Corsicana High School at a nuclear energy symposium at UT Austin. She also earned a varsity letter in tennis.

Sharon received a Jim Collins Scholarship to attend college, and first attended Navarro College, where she studied art and theatre, and performed in various theatre productions. She then went on to East Texas State University and studied philosophy and Russian language.

For a time, she worked at the Corsicana Daily Sun as a proofreader.

She transferred to UT Austin and graduated with honors in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosphy and the humanities. While at UT, she worked as editor of the UT Press and as a proofreader for Texas Senate.

Sharon began her nursing career by attending UT Austin nursing school and graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, followed by obtaining her license as a registered nurse. She worked as a psychiatric nurse at various private and public hospitals in Austin, including working as a nursing supervisor at Austin State Hospital.

She graduated from UT-Dallas in 1989 with Master's in Public Policy degree with an emphasis in health policy and continued her postgraduate work at UT-Dallas in economics related to health policy; she also served as a part-time instructor of health courses in the Dallas County Community College System.

Moving to Washington, D.C. Sharon worked as a nurse at George Washington University (GWU) Hospital while attending graduate school at GWU in health policy and Georgetown University in medical ethics.

On April 8, 1993 Sharon married Irving Joseph Hoch in Corsicana and moved to Richardson. They never had children, but had four dogs that they considered their children and loved very much, Bonnie (deceased) and Bart (deceased), and Mattie and Fred still living. After moving back to Texas, Sharon worked in the Dallas area for the remainder of her life, where, over the course of her nursing career, she had worked at most of the private and public hospitals.

Sharon was diagnosed with lung cancer on Aug. 1, 2013. By her request, her remains were donated to the University of Minnesota and her eyes were donated to the University of Minnesota Lions Eye Bank.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Irving Joseph Hoch, and father, Donald O. Williams and younger brother, Joey Williams and brother-in-law, Denis Schirmers.

She is survived by her oldest brother, Donald Williams, Jr. and wife Dr.
Ruth Condray-Williams of Carson City, Nev.; her younger sister, Patricia Schirmers of Eden Prairie, Minn.; her youngest brother, Victor T. Williams and wife Sandra Williams of The Colony; her nephews and nieces, Dr. Angie Glasgow of Davis, Calif., Dr. Joseph Schirmers of Minneapolis, Minn., Grace Williams of North Richland Hills, Weston Williams of Lubbock, and Catie Schirmers of Wellesley, Mass.

J. D. Sheppard

J.D. Sheppard, born Jan. 19, 1922 in Athens to William Newton Sheppard and Beulah Fitzgerald Sheppard, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013.

J.D. was a graduate of Kilgore High School. He played basketball while attending Tyler Junior College. Then on Oct. 27, 1942, he entered the Army and was discharged March 14, 1946. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Upon his return, he attended Stephen F. Austin University. J.D. earned his degree in Education while playing basketball and later earned his Master's Degree.

Shep coached in the Dallas Independent School District for 10 years. He was extremely proud of the close contact he kept with the men he had coached at Pleasant Grove and Forest Avenue High School.

Shep officiated in both football and basketball for the Southwestern and Oklahoma Athletic Associations, and was a life member of the Dallas Coaches Association.

Shep was a zone manager for the Dr. Pepper Company and advanced to Midwest Division Manager, receiving the Presidents Award. He was president of Texas Bottlers Supply Association and served on the boards of Midwestern State Bottlers. He became the Regional Sales Manager for Chattanooga Glass in Corsicana and later an Independent Representative for Southwest business' in the bottling industry.

J.D. has been a member of the First United Methodist Church for 45 years. He served as a Sunday school teacher as well as on the church board.

An incredibly special man, he touched many lives with his warmth, wit, wisdom and love. He always took a personal interest in everyone he met.
One of his former students wrote, "His kindness, willingness and affection has always resulted into things that have affected the lives of others."

He is survived by his wife Billie of 67 years; children, Kathy Huskey and husband Rod, Barbara Sheppard and John Sheppard and wife Karen; grandchildren, Lukas Hubbard and wife Julie, Joel Hubbard and wife Lynsey, Paul Sheppard and wife Amanda, Jane Sheppard and Anna Rogers and husband Caleb; great-grandchildren, Cole Hubbard and Bryce Hubbard and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Corsicana. Family visitation will follow after the service in the parlor.

Melvin Royis Ward, age 79, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 in Crystal City, Texas. He was born Jan. 29, 1934 in Navarro County and lived the majority of his early years in Corsicana. The son of Watson and Ruth Ward, he attended Mildred High School and went on to college in Tyler and obtained a degree in Accounting. He began working at Coffelt and Gutherie before going into business for himself as a successful independent oil and gas operator in Texas for over 65 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Audra Leyton Ward.

He is survived by his devoted companion of over 55 years, Catherine Boychuk and his current wife, Shirley Ward; son, Michael Ward and wife Chris of San Antonio; stepdaughter, Gina Voss of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Matthew Ward and wife Amanda of Corpus Christi, Patrick Dosser and wife Gina of San Antonio, John Dosser and wife Elizabeth of San Antonio, Justin Ward and wife Nicole of Castle Rock, Colo., and Tasha Clark of Corpus Christi; great-grandchildren, Mason, Tiffany, Christopher, Aiden, Myles and Blake; brother, Morris Ward and wife Jennie of Athens; nephews, Dwayne Ward and wife Sharron, Terry Ward and Kenny Ward.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Corley Funeral Home.

Karey Alford Ford Jr., 62, of Corsicana died April 16, 1989 in Lancaster.

Services will be 4 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Lancaster with the Rev. B.F. Risinger and the Rev. Lindsey Cofield officiating.
Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery in Lancaster. Byrum Funeral Home in Lancaster is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Nov. 11, 1926 in Mildred. He married Della Louise Turner June 1, 1947 in Mexia. He retired as vice president-division manager of Safeway Food Stores after 38 years of service. He started his career in Corsicana in 1947, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Corsicana. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christi Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Della Louise Ford; children and in-laws, Al and Tommie Ford of Wharton, Karey III and Nancy Ford of Dallas, Phil Ford of Austin, Kathy and Mark Tapscott of Lancaster, Linda and George Adams of Houston, Tricia Ford of Corsicana; his mother, Mary Evelyn Slaughter of Corsicana; sisters, Valero Garner of Blooming Grove, Parry Ruth McCarter of Silver City, Bobbie Putman of Navarro Mills; grandchildren, Al Ford, Jr., Shellie Adams, Jason Tapscott, Geoffrey Ford, Angie Tapscott, Nathan Ford; and several nieces and nephews.

Floy Catherine (Haggard) Coffey

Mrs. Floy Catherine Coffey, 93, of Corsicana died April 17, 1989, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Corley Funeral Chapel, with the B.F. Risinger Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Waco Memorial Park in Waco.

She was born Oct. 10, 1895, in Morris County, and had lived in Corsicana most of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Her husband, E.O. Coffey, preceded her in death in 1948.

She is survived by one brother, H. Milton Haggard of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; and two sisters, Alice White and Mrs. O.F. Treadwell, both of Corsicana.

Pallbearers will be C.A. Pickering, Robert Herod, Dr. Ralston Gober, Joe G. Sims, Bill Honea and C.G. Winn.

Mrs. Benny (Olive) Spross, 79, of Riesel Texas, died Monday, April 17, 1989, in a Waco hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wilkerson Hatch Funeral Chapel.
The Rev. William Horick and the Rev. Kent Berry will officiate. Burial will be in Waco Memorial Park.

She was born April 2, 1910, in Brenham, Texas. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1927. She graduated from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Waco in 1934. She married Benny Spross on Oct. 8,
1943 in Waco. She had worked 18 years at Corsicana Memorial Hospital and returned to Waco in 1968. She retired in 1977.

Mr. Spross died in 1971.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Riesel.

She is survived by two sons, Richard W. Jablonowski and Bud Jablonowski, both of Riesel; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Patterson and Mrs. Jane Goodwin, both of Waco and Mrs. Jo Brown of Austin; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Riesel or the American Heart Association.

Annie Ruth (Whittenburg) Farmer

Mrs. Ruth Farmer, 94, of Purdon, died April 17, 1989 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev.
O.E. Permenter officiating. Interment will follow in Younger Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 3, 1894 in Navarro County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church.

Her husband, T.I. Farmer, preceded her in death in 1968.

Survivors include one daughter, Letha Davis of Purdon; one granddaughter, Carolyn Williams of Corsicana; one grandson, Jackie Davis of Houston; six great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Tally of Corsicana, and Edith Farmer of Harlingen; one brother, Everett Whittenburg of Corsicana; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be great-grandsons and nephews Randy Farmer, Jeff Farmer, Donald Davis, Shannon Kuykendall, Glenn Tally and Billy Joe Tally.

Royce Garvin Hassell, 86 of Kerens, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Hassell is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Garvin and Colleen Hassell of Coppell; daughter, Vicki Hassell of Kerens; two grandchildren, Anna and Emily Hassell, both of Coppell; sister, Mary Francis Ordeneaux of Mesquite; nephew, Fred Milligan, Jr. of Mesquite; and a number of other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at Paschal Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Leslie Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery in Athens, Texas.

John Victor Dunagan

John Victor Dunagan, 62, left this world to join his parents on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.

He was born July 15, 1951 to Lucius Victor (L.V.) and Fanell Smith Dunagan. John graduated from Frost High School in 1969 where he was involved in all sports, excelling in football as a quarterback, basketball, as well as baseball.

He went on to Stephen F. Austin State University where he became a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and gained many life-long friends. He relocated to Dallas which became his permanent home.

He was a bartender for many years at several Dallas establishments, including Jack Brown's Beer Garden, Pittman House, Lucy's, Caulfield's, Stan's Blue Note, Wall Street Pub, as well as others. In his more recent years he worked as a Union Contractor with Freeman Decorators.

He contracted West Nile Virus/Spinal Meningitis several years ago and struggled to overcome its effects ever since.

He had a true joy for life, had many friends who loved him, as well as family and �adopted family� who knew him affectionately as �Uncle John, U.J., Dunny, J.D. or Roach.�

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Mark Pratt of Cryer Creek; nephews Joseph Mark Pratt of Midlothian, Matthew Abel Pratt of Mansfield and John Gabriel Pratt of Lubbock; as well as cousins, James (Jim) Moore and Mandy of Little Rock, Ark., Jerry Moore and Janet of Williamsburg, Va., Russell Williams and Judi of Waxahachie, as well as a host of friends and adopted family.

The family is hosting a celebration of his life at Frost Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. and the Memorial Service at 3 p.m. All are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to The Salvation Army or your favorite charity in his memory.

Jesse Lee Moore, Jr. was born February 29, 1928 in Woodlawn, Texas to Jesse Lee and Catherine (Peden) Moore. He passed away on September 14, 2013 in Englewood, Colorado. Jesse is preceded in death by his wife Reba H. (Hawthorne) Moore in 1984. He is survived by his son Daniel Lee Moore of Vancouver, Washington, his siblings Barbara (Leon) Rowlett and Watson (Shirley) Moore as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He graduated from Toyah High School in 1945 in far west Texas. In 1946 he joined the U.S. Navy where he served for two years in San Diego, California. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy he attended Texas Technological College where he graduated in 1952 with a business administration degree with a major in accounting.

Mr. Moore worked for Llano Drilling Company in Midland, Texas and then moved to Forest Oil Corporation (the parent company) where he worked in both Houston, Texas and Denver, Colorado. He retired from Forest Oil Corporation in 1986.

He married Reba Hawthorne on June 20th, 1958 in Midland, Texas.

He was a lifelong Texas Tech Red Raiders fan and was an active member of the Denver area Texas Tech alumni association. He always watched them when they played on television and attended many games in person.

Mr. Moore loved the Rocky Mountains and in particular loved Rocky Mountain National Park. He visited the park many times per year, sometimes more than once a week. He loved to watch, and listen, to the elk while in the park. He spent many hours with his spotting scope in the park watching the elk and other wild life. He was always glad to let strangers look through the scope and help them enjoy the wonders that he saw in the mountains.

Given the terrible flooding in the mountains that he loved it is requested that donations to flood relief be made in lieu of flowers. Dewitt Howard Fox

Dewitt Howard Fox, age 84, passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at Country Meadows Nursing Home in Corsicana. He was born in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas, on March 30, 1929 to Newell Grady and Lillian Beatrice Johnson Fox.

He served in the United States Army for two years and achieved the rank of corporal. He co-owned and operated a plumbing company for many years. He married Gloria J. Quinn on Aug. 13, 1955. He was a member of Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Mr. Fox is survived by his sister, Merle Marie Taylor of Oklahoma City, Okla.; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at Hamilton Beeman Cemetery in Retreat with Rev. Darren Heil officiating.

Mr. Matilde Guerrero Ovalle

Mr. Matilde Guerrero Ovalle, 88, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 with his family by his side. He was born March 14, 1925 in Waco to Inez and Selso Ovalle.

M.G. served honorably in the United States Army. He served in World War II from March 8, 1945 until Nov. 27, 1946 and was stationed in Japan. He married Dorothy Virginia Ovalle on Feb. 8, 1948.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant daughter, Johnnie Ovalle. He was also preceded in death by his brothers; Daniel and Domingo Ovalle and his sister; Henrietta Aguado, and son-in-law Jerry Long.

Mr. Ovalle is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ovalle and his four daughters; Lela Gilmore and husband, Buddy, Virginia Reese and husband, Curtis, Julia Nelson and Tim Malone, and Mary Long. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. M.G. is also survived by his sister; Santana Ovalle and brothers; Bert Christian, Albert and Tom Ovalle.

Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at Corley Funeral Home with the Rosary being recited at 7 p.m.

Funeral mass is schedule for 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Corsicana with Rev. Henry Drozd officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Durr, Daniel Gilmore, Donnie Trull, Scott Long, Timothy Nelson and Jeff Kelly.
