George Barnett Anderson
Jul 4, 1931 - Jul 15, 1953

Corsicana Cadet, Geo. B. Anderson, Killed In Crash

Aviation Cadet George B. Anderson of Corsicana was killed Wednesday morning when his T033 jet trainer, crashed and burned near Kopperl, Bosque county, one mile west of Lake Whitney. He was stationed at the James Connally Air Force Base at Waco.

The body will be returned to Corsicana from Waco for burial by the Griffin Funeral Home. It was taken to Waco by military authorities following an investigation at the site. Arrangements were incomplete early Thursday afternoon pending the completion of investigation by the Air Force.

Goes Into Spin
The Plane was a two-seater trainer and is reported to have gone into a spin about two miles east of Kopperl and crashed about 2,000 yards from Indian Lodge, a fishing camp at the Lake about 10:45 a.m.

Eyewitnesses earlier reported one man was seen to bail out but that his parachute failed to open. Officials at the James Connally Air Force Base at Waco, however, reported only one man in the plane. The body of Cadet Anderson was removed from the smoldering wreckage.

Falls Suddenly
W. F. White, Sweetwater was reported the first to arrive at the scene. He was fishing about 1,000 yards east of where the plane crashed.

The plane came from the south and was flying apparently smoothly, he said. It took a nose dive, then went into a spin.

Mrs. Harold Glenn of Kopperl was chopping weeds in her back yard when she saw the craft fall, she lives about three miles from the site where the plane fell.

Joe Bob Reagan, another eye-witness, who operates Indian Lodge, a fishing camp on the west side of Lake Whitney, said the plane caught his attention when it began to twist and turn convulsively in the air.

Then it went out of sight and we heard a crash. We drove down and found the plane partially buried in the ground about one mile south of Whitney, Reagan said.

Reagan said the plane was scattered for about 200 yards in the pasture.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. M. Anderson, 1120 West Collin street, Corsicana; three brothers, M-Sgt. James P. Anderson, U. S. Air Force, Newfoundland; Major Zane Anderson, N. S. When Mrs. Casebold was born, Sep. 18, 1857, in LaGrange, the U. S. Civil War was still just a prediction of some of the most astute observers.

During her life time, she saw Texas Change from a pioneer land to one supporting great urban centers.

Conducting the services will be Rev. Don Walker, pastor of the First Baptist church in Kerens, and the Rev. Mr. Fore, pastor of the first Assembly of

She visited with a constant flow of guests at the Sullivan home, often entertaining them with her remembrances, and remained active and alert until a short time before her death. In Kerens, each birthday had become a festive occasion. Not long ago she fell and broke a hip and was consequently transferred to the convalescent home in Corsicana when it failed to respond satisfactorily to therapy. She remained active in church work until her confinement, and even then maintained her interest.

Mrs. Nancy Patton-Casebolt Given Party At Kerens On 100th Birthday

KERENS, Oct.7(Spl.)Kerens senior citizen Mrs. Nancy Patton Casebolt celebrated her 100th birthday Saturday, September 28, with a party at her home here.

Born in 1857 at La Grange, Texas, the daughter of Thomas J. and Martha Patton, the honoree has lived a most interesting life, has traveled extensively, and is the mother of four living children, has 12 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Some 45 of her relatives joined a host of Kerens friends to wish her many happy returns of the day, at the party at the home of Mrs. Will Sullivan the daughter with whom she has made her home for the past several years.

Women of the Kerens First Methodist church presented the 100th birthday cake which was beautifully decorated, with numerous lovely and useful gifts were brought by guests.

Mrs. Casebolt possesses a keen mind, sees and hears well, and has an admirable sense of humor. She is able to quote entire passages from the Bible, and gives as her Philosophy of Life: WorkTake what comes to you without stewingDont let anything get you down.:

Nov 29, 1928 - Apr 18, 2014

Mabel Charline Barber Carpenter, 85, met her Maker on Friday, April 18, 2014 in Denton. Mabel was a devoted Christian, loyal wife, proud mother and caring grandmother.
Mabel was born on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 29, 1928 in Fairplay, Ark. Not long after Mabel was born, her mother was diagnosed with cancer which she succumbed to just before Mabel's second birthday. Soon after, her father left for Missouri to seek employment and Mabel was left in the care of two maternal great aunts who ran a boarding house and worked for the telephone company in Prescott, Ark.

After high school graduation, Mabel remained in Prescott, working as a telephone operator and was very active at the First United Methodist Church. The organist at the church set Mabel up on a blind date with the new Chamber of Commerce Executive who had recently relocated from Texas, Rex Carpenter. After steady dating, the couple married on July 28, 1951 and moved to Mexia, Texas where they welcomed the birth of their only child, a son, Chuck, in 1952. Rex's career as a Chamber of Commerce professional gave them the opportunity to work and live in other Texas towns after MexiaEnnis, Waxahachie, Henderson and finally in 1966, Corsicana.

Mabel graduated from Henderson Business College and worked as a secretary/receptionist for several years, but the position she held most dear was Household Executive. She was proud to call herself Mrs. Rex Carpenter, supported her son in his ambitions, committed herself to numerous community activities and served the United Methodist Church. She was a talented seamstress and created much of her wardrobe. Years later after the birth of her only grandchild, Laura, she crafted dresses and costumes for her as well. In 2011, Rex passed away and soon thereafter, Mabel moved to Denton to be near her son where she departed three years later with her son by her side.

Sept 16, 1917 - Apr 20, 2014

Murray Lee Harris, 96, of Tyler, died Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Mother Francis Hospital after a short hospitalization for pneumonia. He was born in Yowell, Delta County, Texas on Sept. 16, 1917, to William Womack Harris and Ruth Miller Harris. He was raised in Corsicana one of five siblings and of 13 cousins in a close-knit family. After attending the University of Texas, he followed in his father's footsteps and pursued a legal career, graduating from Texas Law School in 1942. He then served as navigator for four years in the U.S. Navy aboard oil and gas tanker ships in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during WWII, rising to the rank of First Lieutenant. Afterwards he joined his father in private practice in Quitman, Texas, for several years until his election to Wood County Attorney in 1951-1952. From 1953 to 1957 he served as an Assistant U.S. attorney under William M. Steger in Tyler. During this period he married Ruth Reavley of Nacogdoches, and they had two children, Brent and Ruth. He eventually left this office to return to private practice in Orange, where he partnered with Frank Hustmyre. He enjoyed his legal practice in Orange from 1957 to 1974, at which time he was appointed Clerk of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. He served in this capacity under U.S. District Judge Joe Fisher until 1980 when U.S. District Judge William Wayne Justice, a law school classmate of his, became Chief Judge and the clerk's post was moved to Tyler. He continued as District Clerk in Tyler until 1992, when he assumed duties as special assistant to Chief Judge Robert M. Parker, a position he held until 1994.
Retirement allowed for more time with friends and family, particularly his brothers, Rev. Marion Harris and William Wesley Harris, with whom he shared a love of raising Tennessee Walking Horses. A lifelong Baptist, he served as deacon and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Churches in Orange and Tyler for many decades. With memories large and small of the Great Depression and World War II, tempered by the love of and for family, friends and the Lord, he combined the understanding of a realist with an optimistic outlook, resulting in a view of life thoroughly imbued with insight, irony and humor.
