Selma Kaufman
Apr 22, 1912 - Sep 1, 1922

Sad Death of Little Corsicana Girl

The sad news of the sudden and unexpected death of Selma, the 10-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kaufman at 3 oclock this morning in Dallas, came as a sudden and severe shock to the relatives and many friends of the family here today. Selma and her older sister, Dorothy , underwent an operation in Dallas yesterday for the removal of their tonsils and adenoids, and while Dorothy is doing well, her sister died from the effects of the operation at the hour names.

The parents and other relatives of the girls were with them, and will bring the body of Selma home tonight, but nothing is yet known of the funeral arrangements.

Little Selma was an exceptional bright and lovable child, and her sudden and unlooked for death has cast a gloom over a large circle of friends.

Robert William Bridges
Feb 29, 1860 - May 26, 1897

Killed by Willie R. Cain over a domestic problem.
-------------------------
THE BRIDGES KILLING: A compilation of news articles from the Dallas Morning News, the Daily Times Herald, and the Houston Post reported that on Wednesday 26 May 1897 at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon near the Post Office at Frost, 21 miles from Corsicana on the Cotton Belt Railroad., Robert William Bridges was shot twice with a shotgun and four times with a pistol by Willie R. Cain, causing Bridges to die instantly.

Cain was identified as a grocery merchant at Frost, and brother-in-law of the deceased. The "family problem" arose as a result of Bridges having been previously married to a sister of his wife Drusey.

Drusey had returned to Frost, taking their four children with her. She filed for divorce on 22 May 1897, and when the divorce citation reached her husband in Indian Territory, he immediately departed for Frost, reaching there on 26 May.

There were 32 holes in the body of Bridges, with one ball passing directly through the heart. Physicians said that any of the shots would have produced death.

Sheriff Alien arrested Cain at Frost and Cain posted $1,000 bond. An inquest by Justice Wilkinson of Blooming Grove determined that Bridges met his death at the hands of Cain.

Both parties were members of prominent families residing at and near Frost, and the remains of Bridges were to be interred nearby, where his mother and other relatives resided.
