Little Clarence Sessions, who was eight years of age, and the son of the late W. D. Sessions died last Friday morning at nine o'clock after an illness of several weeks. The remains were laid to rest in the Prairie Point cemetery Friday afternoon at seven o'clock.

Obituary.

In loving memory of Walter Strange. On May 14th the death angel visited and took from our community and home a kind hearted boy, and good friend. �Yes a good friend,� we can say to all who knew Walter.

He leaves a father, three brothers, two sisters, and oh so many, many friends with grieving hearts. Weep not, as we ofttimes say, but we know our tears relieve our hearts, only grieve of his being absent here, for we hope and trust that God our Master has for him a better home than in this dreadful war, to which we know sooner or later he would have had to go. Of course it is hard and very hard we know to have laid him away as it was. But yet what a consolation, Peace is the greatest thing on earth. And we are hoping and trusting in our Lord and Master, peace was made between him and God before the end came. He said �I am not going to live long, but thank God, I am not afraid to die. I have made my peace with God and am only waiting my time to come.� He said so often he would not live but did not seem to fear it in the least.

We are glad to say Bro. Carriway conducted such a nice little consoling service which was held at the church. Have heard so many compliments in that way, and too, he was so good in going to see Walter while sick. He was sick so long.

May the few words that were said console the bereaved, and for the benefit of making some one realize the realities and things of this world and better one to come and to help them see how and for what they are living for. While there are many that have not, may it touch their tender hearts as they have never been touched before. We all have things to regret in our past and may we see our future a brighter and better one.

We cannot say that the one that is gone lived the past a Christian life. But we can say he did live a moral life. And we are thankful that God made peace before the end. So let this be a warning an let us make our peace before we are so near the end of time. We do not know the hour in which He cometh for it may be the darkest hour of the night.

His brother, Harvey and wife came while he was sick, but they had gone home on Friday before he died on Tuesday. So they did not come back.

He was sick something like six weeks with that awful disease typhoid fever. He was planted in the Prairie Point Cemetery, where he�s now resting, we hope to say, beside his mother who was laid away some few years past.

It�s a debt we all must pay. And now he�s paid it all. It was for a cause that he was taken, but a cause we do not know.

A precious boy from us is gone,
A voice we loved is still;
A place is vacant in our hearts,
Which never can be filled.

But we trust that we can meet him,
In that home beyond the sky,
Where the righteous ever liveth,
And the spirit never die.

Yes, dear Walter, how we miss you,
How our hearts do ache to know,
That you are now sleeping,
To wake with us no more.

Now, that he is safe with Jesus,
Where there is no cloud or rain;
But our sadness tells us,
Our loss is heaven�s gain.

Through this world of sin and sorrow,
No more he�ll be with you
We have lost our friend Walter,
He has bade this world adieu.

We cannot see, we cannot tell
What on the road awaits us;
We can but trust and journey on,
While hope regenerates us.

There may be other joys in store,
And may we gladly share them;
But should new sorrow come to us,
God gives us strength to bear them.

Walter�s birthday was Oct. 29, 1905, which would have made him in his 23rd year. He was just in the prime of life and of manhood, to enjoy the pleasures and happiness of this world.

We are only flowers in the garden. Blooming for a purpose that which we cannot tell. Shall we grow to be as old and shattered roses, or be plucked as it were, at an unusual and unexpected time of age. So we only have to prepare for our readiness and time to come, and to meet our Savior. So let us have them made and ready when our end of time shall come.

KERENS, Dec. 12.�(Spl.)�Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Strange, of Oak Grove, aged 63 years, who died Tuesday, were held Wednesday afternoon here with burial in the Prairie Point Cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, J. W. Strange, Oak Grove; a daughter, Miss Eunice Strange, Oak Grove; five brothers, W. E. and Bud Horn, both of Corsicana; Ransom Horn, Kerens; Henry Horn, Corpus Christi, and Jack Horn, Houston; two sisters, Mrs. L. B. Strange, Kerens, and Mrs. T. M. Smith, Rodessa, La.

MRS. SARAH STRANGE FUNERAL SERVICES FRIDAY AFTERNOON

Mrs. Sarah Strange, aged 88 years, native Texan, died at her residence in Powell Thursday afternoon. She is survived by 116 descendants.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church at Powell. Interment was in the Prairie Point Cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. Peyton Goodman, Methodist minister of Eureka, and Rev. L. O. Sluder, Baptist minister of Powell.

Mrs. Strange has made her home in the Powell community about 30 years.

Surviving are a son, G. H. Strange, Fort Worth; nine daughters, Mrs. Della Skinner, Gilmer; Mrs. Belle Goodwin, Daingerfield; Mrs. Bobbie Wallace and Mrs. Edna Wallace both of Ewell; Mrs. Oma Ficklin and Mrs. Hattie Johnson, both of Fort Worth; Mrs. Dollie Ficklin, Dallas; Mrs. Bessie Ficklin and Mrs. Blanche Ficklin, both of Powell; 40 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Bealon Ware, Morgan Lowe, J. R. Rush, Charles Kent, Harville Ward and Pete Ross.

Anna Belle Taylor, aged two years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Taylor, 804 West Tenth avenue, died Saturday morning at an early hour, and the remains were interred at Prairie Point yesterday afternoon.

Mrs. Sallie Taylor, 31, wife of I. L. Taylor, died at 905 West Tenth avenue Saturday afternoon and the remains were interred at Prairie Point yesterday morning at 11:30, with Mrs. Smith of the Apostolic church officiating. The deceased is survived by her husband and five children, the youngest a babe of two weeks.

Died of Infantile Paralysis.

Frank F. Seton, Jr., 17-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Seton, died last night of spinal infantile paralysis at 513 North Eleventh street and the remains were interred to the Prairie Point cemetery this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The father of the child is employed in the Powell oil field by the Roxana Oil company, and the sick child was brought to Corsicana Thursday night for treatment.

Louise Seton

Louise Seton, 82, of Chatfield died Wednesday at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Graveside Service is 11 a.m. Friday at Prairie Point Cemetery with Dr. Tom Groves officiating. Griffin Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Elaine Jones and Mrs. Jimmie Baggs, both of Corsicana; Mrs. Neva Finley of Mesquite, Mrs. Evalyn Mueller of San Antonio; two brothers, Ed Gowan and Ted Gowan, both of Corsicana; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Died Here Last Night.

J. L. Belk, aged 68 years, and for a long time a resident of the Bazette community, and esteemed as an honest, good citizen, died at the County Hospital in this city last night Prairie Point cemetery this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The deceased is survived only by his wife.

Beauford Kirk Died At Roane Last Night

Beauford Kirk, age 14, son of C. E. Kirk of the Roane community, died at the family home last night and the remains were interred in the Bazette cemetery this afternoon at 4 o'clock.

Deceased has been ill with pneumonia fifty-nine days. The young lad is survived by his father and mother and nine brothers and four sisters. Deceased is a brother of Mrs. Claude Patterson of Corsicana.

C. E. Kirk Rites Are Held Tuesday

Funeral rites for Charley Emerson Kirk, 78, retired farmer who died at the Corsicana Hospital and Clinic Sunday afternoon, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Corley Chapel.

Burial was in the Prairie Point Cemetery.

The services were conducted by Rev. R. J. Fletcher, Baptist minister.

Surviving are six sons, Burnice Kirk, Kerens; Lillard, Louis and C. E. Kirk, Jr., all of Corsicana; George Kirk, New York, City, and HJomer Kirk, Grayville, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. C. A. Patterson, Corsicana; Mrs. Ernest Ford, Fort Worth; Mrs. Alma Havner and Mrs. Dorothy Hamilton, both of Sacramento, Calif.; 39 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two brothers, George Kirk, Kerens, and Conner Kirk, Athens; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Nowlin and Mrs. Richard Baxter, both of Kerens, and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Sidney Smith, Warren Smith, Pierce Smith, John Kessinger, Miller Genty and J. B. Genty.

G. R. McCown Died Monday at Kerens

Special to the Sun.
Kerens, Sept. 3.�G. R. McCown, aged 70, died here unexpectedly Monday evening at 7:30 and was buried Tuesday afternoon at Prairie Point cemetery. He leaves his wife and five children, all of whom live here.

Mr. McCown was a large land owner, his farm north of here being the center of the recent drilling campaign by the Boyd Oil Co. Two of the wells were drilled on his farm. He also owned some city residence property.

DEATH REMOVES ONE OF COUNTY�S OLDEST CITIZENS

Kerens, Texas, June 2.�Mrs. G. R. McCown, aged 65 years, passed away at her home in Northwest Kerens Monday morning at 8:40 o'clock after an illness which confined her to her bed about ten months. The funeral services were held at the family home Tuesday, May 31st at 9:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. J. W. Sharbutt, pastor of the Methodist church of this city. He was assisted in these services by Rev. Joe N. Everheart, Presbyterian pastor and H. R. Hall of the Methodist church at Bazette, interment was in the Prairie Point cemetery.

The deceased was Miss Elizabeth Porter prior to her marriage to the late G. R. McCown October 28, 1886 at Auburn, Ky. she was born August 26, 1862 in Logan county, Ky., and was converted when a child, uniting with the Cumberland Presbyterian church. Her life was spent in a quiet and unassuming way, and since she and her husband moved to Kerens in 1904, many friends were gained in her Christian way of living. Mrs. McCown was preceded in death by one child who died in infancy and a son Elbert, who passed away in 1915. Her husband died Sep. 1, 1924. The deceased was one of Keren�s oldest residents.

She is survived by five children: Erwin, Herschel, Herbert, Buney and Miss Ora McCown, all of Kerens, and one brother, M. E. Porter of Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Miss McCown Dies At Kerens

KERENS, April 23�(Spl.)�Miss Ora McCown, 65, operator of a beauty shop here for 30 years, died at her home Wednesday night following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held from the First Methodist church Friday at 10 a.m. with burial in the Prairie Point cemetery.

The rites will be conducted by Rev. D. R. McCauley, pastor, and Rev. J. Garland McKee, pastor of the First Baptist church.

A native of Kentucky, Miss McCown had resided in this community since 1904.

Surviving are three brothers, F. E. and J. H. McCown both of Kerens, and B. A. McCown, Bryan; two nieces and two nephews.

Bazette News.

Uncle Allen Albritton, aged seventy-eight years, and an old and highly esteemed citizen of this community passed away at his home Saturday, June 3o, at 12 o'clock after a long illness. He had been in failing health for a long time, but he always had a cheerful disposition, and wanted to talk all the time. He was a good man and was liked by all who knew him. Uncle Allen was the last of thirteen children to pass away. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist church, but hadn�t been able to attend church for a number of years. He will be missed so much in the home, as he had been confined at home so long, there will be that vacant chair that he sat in all these years, which never can be filled by anyone else. Oh how he will be missed by his relatives and his many friends. It was hard to give him up but the Lord thought it best to call him home where there will be no more suffering. He suffered so much and now his suffering has ceased. He leaves a companion, five sons, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his absence. The remains were laid to rest in the Prairie Point cemetery Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. Rev. B. F. Ellis, his life-long friend, conducted the funeral services. A large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends followed the remains to their last resting place.

The golden gate was opened with,
A gentle voice said come;
An angel from the other side
Welcomed your loved one home.

The remains of the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin who passed away at their home Saturday night near Kerens, were brought here and laid to rest in the Prairie Point cemetery Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, Bro. Vinsant conducting the funeral services.

Mr. and Mrs. Mike Campbell and little daughter of Kerens were here Sunday to attend the funeral of Mr. and Mrs. Martin�s little daughter.

Dear Sun-Light Chats:

I will write you a few lines this beautiful Sabbath day to let you know we are still in the land of the living. We moved from Navarro to this place seven years ago. We are making a living and that is about all we are doing. We have had good health since we came here. We mostly raise our living. This county has raised lots of feed and plenty to eat. Irish and sweet potatoes by the thousands of bushels. All kinds of fruit do well here. We have a well improved home four miles east of Pittsburg, but we are not satisfied here. We made a trip back to our old home a short time ago and laid to rest our boy, Mid Norris, t the Prairie Point cemetery, near Bazette. He had been gone from home six years. He died in Kansas City, Mo. On October 17th. We met many of our old friends and neighbors, whom we thank for their kindness during our bereaved hours, and may God bless them all. A good many look older than when I last saw them, and we were glad to shake their hands and look into the faces of as good people as ever lived on earth.

We spent two days in Kerens and two in Corsicana, where we had the pleasure of shaking hands with many more of our old friends. If there is a place on earth dear to us, it is Navarro county, where we were raised and where we raised our family of six children, four boys and two girls.

The first sack of meal I took to mill was at Chatfield point, which was before the Civil War.

Old Chatfield point is a sacred place to me. I have many dear old friends in that neighborhood I would like to see once more this side of eternity.

Martha Alice (Vernon) Breithaupt

Obituary.

Death invaded the peaceful community of DeArmon on April 15, 1915, at 3:15, the angel of death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Breithaupt and bore away the spirit of the loving wife and mother. She was sick nearly four months. All was done for her that medical skill and loving hands could do, but it seemed that God had called her to go and nothing could restore her to health.

She has a promise of the word where suffering and sorrow re not known. She knew us all till three days before the end, was conscious of her death and met it with all the courage and faith of a true Christian. Her courage never failed her. She called for her children and told them good-bye. Made everyone an individual talk of how she wanted them to live and expressed the sweetness and consolation of the Savior�s promise on her death bed. She bore her pain without a murmur.

When we think of her it is an inspiration for better things lifting us to a higher, purer atmosphere. Her memory stands as a living monument of truth and love and years well spent. Always gentle and kind and just thinking of others before herself, giving the best that was in her to her home and loved ones. Such a beautiful thought to console us to know that in the great beyond there is no parting.

Ah, how she will be missed, how dark and sad seems the way for the bereaved ones; their hearts are torn and bleeding, their burdens seem almost more than they can bear. It is all for a little while and then great everlasting happiness comes to reign forever and forever.

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home, which never can be filled;
God in his wisdom has recalled the boon his love had given
And though the body slumbers here the soul is safe in heaven.

Mrs. Breithaupt was born in Alabama April 23, 1862. Lived there until married and came to Texas in 1882. She leaves a husband, eight children, five boys and three girls to mourn her death, Mrs. A. W. King, Mrs. W. R. Hubble, Mrs. Andrew Johnston, and Clarence, Claud Ernest, Allen and Alma Breithaupt.

She was laid to rest in the Prairie Point cemetery at Bazette, Bro. A. E. Walker conducted the funeral services. The mound that marked the last resting place was completely hidden by many beautiful flowers.

H. J. BREITHAUPT DIED AT HOME HERE EARLY HOUR TODAY

HAD BEEN PROMINENT FARMER NAVARRO COUNTY FORTY-SEVEN YEARS.

Henry Jefferson Breithaupt, aged 65 years, died at his residence, 2220 West Seventh Avenue, Thursday morning at 8 o'clock, following an illness of one week, and the remains will be interred in Prairie Point cemetery Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Jesse P. Sewell, pastor of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Breithaupt was born in Alabama and came to Navarro county forty-seven years ago. He lived three miles north of Powell for a number of years and has resided in Corsicana for seven years.

He was county commissioner from precinct No. 2 four years from 1908 to 1912. At the time of his death, he was supervisor of the State highways in Navarro county.

He is survived by his wife and eight children, five sons and three daughters as follows.

Two brothers also survive; J. C. Breithaupt, Pickett, and W. L. Breithaupt, Oklahoma.

FUNERAL SERVICES FRIDAY AFTERNOON FOR J. H. BREITHAUPT

HAD BEEN RESIDENT OF NAVARRO COUNTY FORTY-SEVEN YEARS

Funeral services for H. j. Breithaupt, aged 65 years, who died at his residence, 2220 West Seventh avenue, at an early hour Thursday morning, were held at the Prairie Point cemetery Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jesse P. Sewell, pastor of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Breithaupt had been ill only one week.

At the time of his death, he was supervisor of the State Highways in Navarro county and was county commissioner from precinct 2 from 1908 to 1912.

Mr. Breithaupt was born in Alabama but had been a resident of Navarro county for forty-seven years. He resided north of Powell for a number of years and has been living in Corsicana for seven years. He is survived by his wife and eight children as follows:

James Henry Bryant

Died at Roane.

J. H. Bryant died suddenly at his home near Roane, Friday, August 15, at 1:30 p.m. and the remains were interred in Post Oak cemetery Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock.

Mr. Bryant was 74 years of age and had been in feeble health for two years but was able to be up and about most of the time, and his death came as a severe shock to his family and friends. His wife died February 5, 1922.

Mr. Bryant was an old and highly esteemed citizen of the Roane community, having lived there 32 years. He was married twice and leaves six children, three by his first marriage and three by his last marriage, as follows: G. B. Bryant of Lou Ann, Ark.; H. A. Bryant of San Antonio; Mrs. Frances Bryant of New Albany, Miss.; Miss Ellie Bryant and Jno. J. Bryant of Roane, and Mrs. J. B. Nichols of Corsicana. He also raised two grandchildren, Mrs. Earle Bush and Norman Fleming, both of Corsicana.

There was a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives and beautiful floral offerings.

Died Wednesday Morning.

Jess Lucas aged 33 years, of Carl�s Switch, died at the Navarro county hospital this morning at 11 o'clock. The deceased is survived by his wife and several small children. Funeral arrangements had not been announced this afternoon at press time. The body is being held at the Sutherland Undertaking establishment. Typhoid fever was the cause of his death.

Mrs. Melissa Lucas, aged 56 years, wife of H. H. Funeral services for Mrs. Melissa Lucas, age 56 years, wife of J. H. Died Near Here Last Night.

Rev. P. P. Cleveland, aged 74 years died at the home of his grandson, Clinton Cox, at Hester last night, and the remains were interred at Chatfield this afternoon. The deceased had been a highly esteemed citizen of this county for many years.

He is survived by his wife and two children, Jeff Cleveland of Lufkin, and Mrs. W. E. Butler of Mabank.

Prominent Resident Navarro County Dead

A. R. Burke, aged 66 years, and for many years a resident of this county, died at his home here Saturday night following a siege of ill health that had been his misfortune for several years, and the remains were interred in the Post Oak cemetery near Powell yesterday afternoon, after services conducted by Rev. C. G. Vincent of the Church of Christ. The last sad rites were largely attended and there were many beautiful floral offerings. The deceased was a farmer and merchant at Powell for a number of years, and only moved to Corsicana a few months ago. His wife and five children survive him, Sam Burke of Powell, Mrs. Ira Owen, Rufus Burke and Jesse Burke of Bardwell, and Mrs. Ola Jackson of Schildler, Okla. the deceased was a brother of the late Capt. J. R. Burke and an uncle of Messrs. Zeb,, Odie and Harry Burke of Corsicana.

The deceased was a son-in-law of Rev. D. U. Langston of Powell, but had lived in Corsicana only a short time.

A. E. Powell, aged 56 years, died at his home on the Mulkey farm, one and one-half miles northwest of the Orphans� Home Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock and the funeral was held at Dresden, where interment was made Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

He had been in ill health for some time.

A. E. Etheredge, age 58 years, former resident of Navarro county, died Tuesday at San Antonio and the body was forwarded to Corsicana, arriving here Thursday morning. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon with interment in Oak Grove cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Meda Massey, Kerens; Miss Maudie Etheredge, Kerens; Irene, Johnny, Willie, Beth Etheredge, all of San Antonio. One brother, J. G. Etheredge, of Kerens, also survives.

Death Followed An Operation for Carbuncle on the Neck.

Geo. Salter, a well known and good citizen of the Mildred community, died in the P. and S. Hospital here this afternoon following an operation for carbuncle on the neck. The deceased is survived by his wife and ten grown children. The remains will be interred in the Providence cemetery tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.

Gary Mac Wilkerson, 64, of Emmett, Texas, passed away November 25, 2016. Mac was born May 11, 1952 in Dallas, Texas to Pete and Annette Wilkerson. Mac grew up in DeSoto, Texas where he met and married his wife, Sarah Cochran Wilkerson. They later moved to Red Oak in 1972 where they raised their two boys.

Mac was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a retired cement contractor and loved hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He spent his recent years in the hay field, tending to his cattle, waiting for his grandkids and their friends to show up for the hunting and fishing activities, along with countless hours at grandkids sporting events. For anyone that knew him, knew he never missed a golf tournament and enjoyed playing poker and �tonk� with family and many friends. Bob Hill and Josh Perry said it best, �There will never be another story teller like Mac; nobody enjoyed hearing him tell a story as much as himself.�

Mac was preceded in death by his grandmother Opal Wilkerson, grandfather Lawson Wilkerson, grandfather Earnest McWilliams, grandmother Ruby McWilliams, father Monroe �Pete� Wilkerson and grandson Hunter Lane Wilkerson.

Mac was survived by his wife, Sarah Wilkerson, mother Annette Wilkerson, son Jason Wilkerson and his wife Stacy Wilkerson, and son Kemp Wilkerson. Grandchildren Lauren, Madi, Cody, Jay Ryan, and Carter Wilkerson.

The family will receive friends at West/Hurtt Funeral Home, 217 S. Hampton Rd., DeSoto, TX 75115 from 5 - 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday - November 30, 2016.

Funeral Services will be held at Hampton Road Baptist Church, 400 N. Hampton Rd., DeSoto, TX 75115 on Thursday - December 01, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Bruce Prindle, officiating.

Mr. Otto Lawrence McBride, 91, of Kerens passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at his residence in Kerens, Texas. He was born in Dekalb, Texas in Bowie County on June 11, 1925 to Otto Young McBride and Nora Jewell Alexander McBride.

He was the best husband, and such a great father. He attended and graduated from Fairfield High School in the class of �42. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II as a radioman. After he come back home he went to work for Raytheon Texas Instruments until he retired in 1984. He was a member of the Baptist church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glendon McBride, and a sister, Mavis Houghtaling.
He is survived by his wife, Marie McBride; son, Tracy McBride of Kerens; brother, Weyman W. McBride and wife Lorene of Corsicana; and numerous
nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mark Luera officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers will

Richard Lee Talkington, 75, of Corsicana, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at his home.

He was born April 29, 1941 in Dallas.

Richard graduated from Corsicana High School then attended Navarro Jr. College.

He worked for Western Electric and retired from AT&T with 33 years.

Richard enjoyed hunting, especially all the years in Llano. Dove hunting with relatives and friends was a special time. Duck hunting with son Ricky was extra special.

Richard was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

His children, Donna Talkington Easley and Ricky Talkington were the light of his life.

He was married to Dianne Miller Taklington [sic] for 23 years. Cancer took her life in 1986. He married Margie DeRusha in 2002.

His greatest joy was Hunter Easley, his grandson and granddaughter Jayden. He enjoyed step-children Stephanie Burleson and Darrell A. DeRusha; step-grandchildren Jinger Jones, Kelsey Jones and Ginger Johnson. Yearly family reunions were also very special to Richard.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Frances Nelson and Bill Talkington, Jr.; wife, Dianne Talkington; brothers, Van Talkington and half-brother Little Bill Talkington.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Talkington of Corsicana; sister, Janice Davis Raney of Dawson; son Ricky Talkington of Corsicana; daughter, Donna Talkington Easley of Corsicana; step-children, Darrell A. DeRusha and wife Marty DeRusha of Rice; Stephanie Burleson and husband Danny Burleson of Sherman; grandchildren, Hunter Easley, Jayden Evans, Jinger Jones, Kelsey Jones and Ginger Johnson; great grandchildren, Landyn Davidson, Bristol Montgomery and Kamryn Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a big host of friends.

W. H. Hellums Dead.

W. H. Hellums, a highly esteemed farmer of the Pursley community, died at his home Friday, October 5, at 4 o'clock p.m., after having suffered about one week.

Mr. Hellums had reached the age of 69 years, 7 months and 4 days, and is survived by his wife and ten children, five boys and five girls, all of whom were present at his death and funeral. He came from Hickory Flat, Miss., to Texas about 1891, settling near Ennis, from which place he moved to Pursley fifteen years ago. Since about eighteen years of age he has been a member of the Church of Christ, and in his everyday life lived according to the teachings of his church and as he thought his Master would have him live. He was a faithful member and for many years was elder of his congregation. Mr. Hellums was truly one of nature�s noblemen and while his death has brought a bitter cup of sorrow to relatives and close friends, it is indeed a sweet thought to think of his well spent life.

The funeral service was held at Pursley Saturday afternoon at four o'clock, conducted by Bro. E. E. Shoulders of Corsicana, after which the body of this good man was laid to rest in the Pursley cemetery to await the resurrection. �Dawson Herald.

James Pinckney Copeland

Obituary.

On the evening of June the twenty-seventh, at eight o'clock, God sent one of His shining angels to claim our grandfather, J. P. Copeland. He was seventy-four years, one month, and sixteen days old. When God called him home, he had been in bed fifteen days, had been sick ever since Christmas. He was a native of Georgia, was born in Henry county, in the year 1842, and came to Texas sixteen years ago, and moved near Pursley where he lived until his death. Grandfather was a Confederate soldier. He served 4 years in the Civil war, being a member of Company H, Twenty-seventh Georgia Regiment. His colonel was C. T. Zachery. He fought upward of forty battles. He was married to Miss Martha Nowell on May seventh, 1865. To this union eight children were born, three boys and five girls. He raised all to be grown and married. Two girls have already crossed the river of Jordan. They were Mrs. Jim Cane, and Mrs. J. O. D. Crider. There were only three of his children with him when the end came. His death was caused by Bright�s disease. He joined the Methodist church when a young man and remained in the church five years, when he and Grandmother joined the Christian Church. He lived a Christian life from the time he first joined the church until his death, and he wasn�t afraid to die. He often talked of his home in Heaven, and said he was only waiting until he was called to go to his home on high. He and Grandmother had made their home with their youngest son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Copeland since last August. He leaves an aged wife and six children, thirty-five grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, and has four brothers and one sister living. His brothers and sister live in Georgia. Grandfather was loved by all who knew him, and was a kind and loving husband, and good and kind to his children. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Culbertson, a Christian preacher. There were lots of beautiful flowers laid on his grave. He was laid to rest in the new Pursley cemetery on Wednesday evening at two o'clock. His children living are: J. A. Copeland, Benjamin, Texas; Mrs. W. H. Butler, Corbet, Texas; Billie Copeland, Ardmore, Okla.; Mrs. G. A. Robison and Fred Copeland of Pursley, and Mrs. John Teague, Heflin, Ala.

In Memoriam.

Yes, it is sad, but we must say that the Death Angel made a sudden call at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Price and took from them their darling little daughter, Georgia Ann, aged 9 years, whose spirit the Death Angel bore away on October 8, 1815. Georgia was born March 18, 1907. She was permitted only a short stay here below gaining a very dear place in all the hearts of the family circle, making a sacred tie that shall never be severed. But the All Wise God knew best, so he sent his messenger whose name is Death and called little Georgia to a far brighter world than this, where sickness and sadness never come. Georgia was a loving child, but dear mother and father why should you weep, when our loving Savior said, �Suffer little children to come unto me?� Realizing that her soul returned to God in peace her body was laid to rest Friday evening, October 8, 1915, in the Pursley cemetery, as the glorious sun was sinking in the western horizon. Her body was laid in its last resting place to await the resurrection morn�a home where changes never come. Let us work, hope and pray to meet little Georgia in that beautiful home of the of this soul. Look up to Him, father, mother, brothers and sister to Him who will comfort you. May God�s richest blessings rest upon this family in their hour of sadness.

John G. Gan Dead.

John G. Gan, age about 45 years, died Friday of last week in Rusk, his body being brought here and buried in the Raleigh Cemetery Sunday, the funeral service being conducted by Rev. Watts. Mr. Gan made his home near the city with his brother, George Gan, up until a few months ago when he went to Rusk.

Died at Raleigh

Harvey Kirk, aged twenty years, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Kirk, of that community, died at an early hour yesterday morning of heart trouble since he had influenza more than a year ago. The remains were interred at the Old Raleigh Cemetery at six o'clock yesterday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. W. A. Watt.

Stroud, Okla., Nov. 1�Two men were killed and a negro woman injured when the northbound �Metcor,� fast St. Louis-San Francisco passenger train bound from Oklahoma City to St. Louis struck a to-ton field truck here late Friday.

The truck was carried more than a block by the engine, tearing out a switch which caused three cars to leave the track and plunge through the corner of a cotton gin.

William Geary of Craytron, Pa., and Jake Sims of Corsicana, Texas, driver of the truck, were killed. Geary was standing on the gin dock.

The negro woman was a passenger. The engine passed over the switch and was not damaged. It proceeded with the train after a wrecking crew had replaced the derailed cars.

Jake Sims, who was killed late Friday in Oklahoma, as noted above, has lived in Corsicana for a number of years and during that time had been employed by Tom Hughes at the Corsicana Dray and Transfer Company. Mr. Hughes is interested with George Berry in heavy hauling in the Oklahoma oil fields and the truck being driven by Sims at the time he was killed was owned by Mr. Hughes. The firm was engaged with the Magnolia Pipeline with headquarters in Wewoka, Oklahoma, which is in the vicinity of where the accident occurred.

Deceased is survived by a daughter about nine years old, as well as three brothers and two sisters residing in Dallas. The remains will be brought to Corsicana for interment but just when they will arrive and the hour of the funeral was not known at press hour.

Remains Jake Sims Buried Raleigh Sun.

The remains of Jake Sims, who was killed at Stroud, Oklahoma last Friday when the truck he was driving was hit by a railroad train, reached here near noon yesterday, and interment took place late yesterday afternoon in the Raleigh Cemetery, where the deceased formerly lived.

The deceased was in the employ of George Berry and Tom Hughes, and Mr. Berry, who was driving another truck behind the deceased when he was killed, accompanied the remains to Corsicana.

The deceased had numerous friends here where he had lived for several years, and all are pained by his tragic death. The deceased is survived by an 8-year-old daughter, three brothers and three sisters.

In Memoriam.

On the evening of February 16, 1918, the Death Angel visited the home of R. E. Spence and claimed for its victim a loving wife and mother and bore her soul to realms above where partings are no more. Mary was born on February 21, 1896. Was married to R. E. Spence May 24, 1912. She was converted and joined the church at the age of 15 years. She leaves a husband, little Elva, aged 3 years, and little Gerlene, 7 months old; a father, mother, three brothers and two sisters and other relatives and many friends to mourn her departure.

Her death was such a shock to everyone, as she was sick only a short time and while all was done that loving hands could do, yet it pleased God to call her to her reward above. She was devoted to her husband and children and all who knew her loved her. There is a vacant chair around the family fireside which never can be filled, and while it is hard for one to be called away with little children to leave that we can not see why �tis so. Yet it is God�s will and we must be submissive at all times. And we extend our sympathy to the bereaved ones that their loss is Heaven�s gain and trust in Him who sees even the tiny sparrow as it falls to the earth and who cares so tenderly for his own.

The funeral service, so touching and impressive, was conducted by Rev. Mr. Huitt and the consolation of the gospel with its ever soothing influence was offered. The remains were laid to rest in the Old Raleigh cemetery.

A precious mother from us has gone.
Her sweet voice we�ll hear no more;
But when our sorrows here are over,
We will meet her on the golden shore.

We miss her smiles and tender words,
And her footsteps no more are heard.
For she has gone to enjoy her reward.
Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.

John Alfred Noster, 78, died on November 24, 2016 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 55 years; Diane (Sheffield) Noster; his three daughters Patti, Crystal, and Faith; his son Jimmy and Jimmy�s wife Carolyn; and his granddaughter, Taryn Garrett; and his great-grandchildren Cleona and Junior; and foster granddaughter, Melissa Stressman. Born in Corsicana, Texas to Clarence and Ena Noster on May 10, 1938. He spent most of his life in New Braunfels, Texas. He graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1956. He attended college and joined the U.S. Army in 1959. He served his country for 3 years. In September 1960, John met and fell in love with Diane Sheffield. They married on October 6, 1961. He started working for the Mesquite Post Office in April 1966. He worked there for 30 years and retired in January 1997. He was a letter carrier and a member of Branch 32 of the NALC. The US Post Office named him Humanitarian of the Year in 1995. John and Diane Noster were foster care parents; and fostered over 200 foster babies over the span of 33 years. While still in college he became an avid blood donor and over the years gave more and more frequently. He gave every 56 days and then moved to donating every two weeks. He served on the Mesquite Blood Care Council. He was a member of the Gallons club and gave 80 gallons. John gave his last unit of blood a few weeks before his diagnosis. Since retiring he has served his community as a board member of Meadowlake HOA. He enjoyed council meetings and served on the Board of Adjustments of Sunnyvale for a little over a year. Diane and John have been a member of Sunnyvale First Baptist Church for 8 years now; and John will be dearly missed by all who knew him. As amazing as all of his accomplishments were his greatest accomplishment was being a loving husband and father. While no one ever plans for something like this to happen; his family realizes now that life is as short as a kiss. They cling to the fact that John Noster is now in Heaven happily going thorugh his new neighbors� trash.

Catherine was the forth child born to Bessie Myrtle (Mayo) Grant and William Otis Grant on Aug. 14th, 1926, in Menard.
Catherine graduated from Kerens High School in 1944. She was a devoted home maker, mother and breast cancer survivor. In the later part of her life she enjoyed a career in property management. She always had a smile and never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husbands; Lonnie Edward Patman and Paul Eugene Ranne; grandchildren, Aimee Dawn Logan, Michael Edward Peel and a great grandchild, Anthony Judge Peel.
Left to keep her memories alive are her children, Cathy (Jerry) Peel, Paula (Hoage) Sellings, Arland (Ann) Ranne, Glenda (Jack) Logan, Gin. a Mize (Glen Rusher), Becky (Richard) Milby and Cyndi Hines (Freddie Krummel), 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

GRADY CRAWFORD IS DEAD AS RESULT OF INTERURBAN CRASH

SECOND VICTIM OF CROSSING ACCIDENT CLAIMED BY DEATH LAST NIGHT

Grady Crawford, aged 8 years, who was hurt in the collision at Rice Monday night when the car in which he was riding with Walter Harper and his little boy, died at the County Hospital at 8:20 o'clock Tuesday night. The body was sent to the Crawford home at Rice early Wednesday by the Sutherland Undertaking company where funeral services will be held and burial made. Harper, and his 5 year old son, David, and Grady Crawford were riding in an automobile and in crossing the interurban track at Rice was struck by the limited car which was coming towards Corsicana. The boys were brought to the hospital here. The little Harper boy died at an early hour Tuesday morning. Harper was slightly injured in the wreck. A surgical operation was performed Tuesday on the Crawford boy�s skull which was fractured in the hope of saving his life, but he died a few hours later.

DAVID HARPER DEAD AS RESULT INJURIES RECEIVED IN WRECK

AUTOMOBILE AND INTERURBAN CRASHED NEAR RICE. THREE HURT

David Harper, 5, son of Walter Harper of Rice, died in the County Hospital at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday morning as the result of injuries received about 5 o'clock Monday afternoon when the Dallas-Corsicana interurban struck the car in which he was riding with his father and Grady Crawford, aged 5.

Mr. Harper and the boys were in a Ford coupe and had driven across the track at Rice where the accident occurred. The car turning down the track had not gotten far enough away to avoid being struck by the approaching limited car, and was not seen by the motorman in time to come to a stop before the crash. The coupe was knocked end over end. The injured were picked up and brought to Corsicana on the next interurban and taken to the hospital.

Mr. Harper was injured about the back and limbs, though not seriously. The little boys suffered a brain concussion.

Mr. Harper was driving the coupe and did not see or hear the fast approaching interurban before being struck.

Motorman O. F. Sizemore and Conductor W. L. Darr were manning the limited interurban.

The body of the Harper boy was sent to Rice by the Sutherland Undertaking company early today. Funeral services will be held some time Wednesday with burial in the cemetery at Chatfield.

The little Crawford boy�s condition is regarded as extremely serious. Trepanning to relieve the fractured skull pressure from the brain was done this morning.

On March 30th the death angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Perry and took from them their darling baby and only child. Weep not, dear parents, for your loss is heaven�s gain, for we know that sweet little Leo is in heaven for the Good Master said: �Suffer little children to come unto me.� He was sick only one week and he bore his suffering well until the last. He was sixteen months old and was the pride and joy of his fond parents and all that knew him. His little form was laid to rest in the Rice cemetery at four o'clock Thursday afternoon. Died.

The Death Angel visited the home of Mr. Lonnie McClennon and took from them their dear wife and mother. All was done that loving hands could do, but God knew best. She was 28 years old. She leaves to mourn her loss a father and mother, three little brothers and five sisters, also a little baby girl ten days old. She died at one o'clock Sunday morning and was laid to rest at 5:30 Sunday evening in the Richland cemetery among sorrowing friends and relatives.

Weep not, dear friends, for her sorrows here on earth are over! We can live to meet her in a better world where there is no death nor parting. Mattie was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Powell of Richland.

Aged Lady Dies.

Last Sunday Mrs. Sarah Stocks, aged 84, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. L. Willis. She was sick only a few days, however, she had been in failing health for some time. Monday her body was buried in the city cemetery in the presence of her relatives and friends to await the resurrection morning when the dead in Christ shall rise. The Times joins the many friends in extending sympathy.

At Rest.

On the 6th day of January the Death Angel visited the home of Earl Towler and took from him his loving wife. She was sick only a short time when Jesus saw fit to call her home to wear a crown on that shining shore with her dear mother who was waiting for her. She leaves behind her to weep a husband and three small children, a father, step-mother, six brothers and one sister and an aged grandmother and many friends and relatives. We truly sympathize with her brother, who was in the service of his country, who could not view her loving face which was cold in death.

She was a member of the Church of Christ. Her home was Ada, Okla. her dear father brought her back to Texas and the remains were laid to rest in Richland cemetery on Thursday afternoon January 9. The services were conducted by the Rev. Forler. We thank the friends in her home for their kindness, and also we wish to thank each one for their kindness when she was brought to the home of her father at Richland.

Our mother�s gone but not forgotten,
In our memory she still lives.
She has gone from earth to heaven,
To enjoy the fife that Jesus gives.

While on earth we all loved her,
But Jesus loved her, oh, much more,
She has only answered to the summon,
And gone to dwell on the heavenly shore.

B. C. Lansford, 90, long time Richland resident, died in the Twilight Home early Thursday morning.

Funeral services will be held from the Corley Chapel Friday at 2 p.m. with burial in the Richland cemetery.

Born, Nov. 10, 1868 in Mississippi, Lansford, a retired grocer came to Richland in 1910 and remained there until 2 1-2 years ago when he moved to Twilight Home here.

Surviving are four sons, Jim Lansford, Corsicana; Arthur and S. D. Lansford, both of Richland, and John L. Lansford, Mexia; a daughter, Mrs. Lula McDonald, Fort Worth; two brothers, John Lansford, Richland, and Joe Lansford, Groesbeck; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Dorsey, Donie and Mrs. Beulah Dorsdy, Fort Worth and 10 grandchildren.

The rites will be conducted by Dr. D. L. McCree, Corsicana, Methodist district superintendent.

Pallbearers will be Horace Jackson, Hubert Crutchfield, Guy Campbell, Tyre Winstead, Starlie Chism and Buell Abbe.

Mrs. B. C. Lansford, 75, long-time Richland resident, died Sunday morning.

Funeral services were held from the Corley Chapel Monday at 2 p.m. with burial in the Richland cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. Van P. Morrison, Methodist Minister.

A native of Mississippi, Mrs. Lansford had resided at Richland since 1910.

Surviving are her husband of Richland; five sons, J. S. Lansford, Wortham; A. Lansford, Houston; H. Lansford, Mount Belview; S. D. Lansford, Richland, and John L. Lansford, Mexia; two daughters, Mrs. N. L. McDonald, Fort Worth, and Mrs. Lillian King, Corsicana; two brothers, George Lansford, and William Lansford, both of Mexia; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Heflin and Mrs. M. Stephens, both of Fort Worth; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

S. F. Roney Died Sunday.

S. F. Roney died at his home eight miles east of Winkler Saturday morning at nine o'clock. Although he had been in poor health for many years, his death ended an illness of two or three weeks duration.

Deceased had resided in this section many years, he being among the first settlers in this section, and was well known and highly respected throughout this country.

Mr. Roney is survived by his wife, two sons, an adopted daughter, two or three brothers and many other relatives and loyal friends.

Interment was made Sunday afternoon in cemetery at Saint Elmo. Rev. Jas. F. Stanley conducted the funeral services.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved relatives and friends in this hour of darkness.

C. C. Platt, aged 76 years, and from this county, died at the County Hospital last night after a long illness, and the remains were interred near Winkler this afternoon.

The deceased during his long residence in Navarro county, lived most of the time at Winkler, but several years were spent in Corsicana.

The deceased is survived by six sons and two daughters, J. K. Platt, Corsicana; W. E. Platt, Abilene; C. E. Platt, Henryetta, Okla.; Mrs. Robert Melton, Wichita Falls; Mrs. William Mayo, Teague and George and Tom Platt, Winkler.

Mrs. Penelope Manning Died at Streetman Mon.

Mrs. Penelope (Aunt Pennie) Manning, aged 84 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Grayson at Streetman Monday afternoon and the funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Saint Elmo Cemetery near Winkler.

The deceased is survived by four children, Mrs. J. E. Grayson of Streetman, Mrs. Mattie Wolf of Hot Springs, New Mexico; J. L. Manning of Dallas and J. R. Manning of Bardwell.

Since the death of her husband Mrs. Manning had made her home with her children.

In Remembrance of Ed Knight

He was born in Milam County, Oct. 11, 1880; died near Winkler Oct. 28, 1918, a victim of influenza, only 10 days after his brother, John, had died. He waited on his brother during his brother�s illness, perhaps he did not think then he would soon be taken like him.

He was married to Miss Minnie Jeffries, to this union were born three children, two boys and one girl, the little girl having preceded him to the Gloryland.

He left a wife, two children, a mother, four sisters, two brothers and numerous relatives and friends to mourn his loss.

He was a leading member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at St. Elmo, serving in the office of a deacon, and his life and services are greatly missed by his community. His faith was in Christ. He is now enjoying the life that you and I have never had the privilege of enjoying and that is being with Jesus.

His death was sad, yet precious to Jehovah for God has said in Psalms 116:15 �Precious in the sight of Jehovah is the death of his saints.� Bereaved ones, weep not as those who have no hope.

Funeral services were conducted by his pastor Eld. W. F. Harvard. His remains were laid to rest in the Saint Elmo Cemetery to await that hour when Jesus shall raise his saints.

Daniel Webster Bennett

In Memory.

Just at four o'clock on the morning of Feb. 22, 1927, D. W. Bennett, a pioneer of Navarro county, passed away. He was 74 years, two months and twelve days old. He is survived by his wife and five sons, all of whom were at his bedside when the end came. He also had fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bennett was a member of the Baptist Church and had been for many years. He lived a devoted Christian life and was ready to answer the summons when his time came. He was a highly esteemed citizen and neighbor and a kind loving husband and father. Twenty-five years of his life was spent in the Frost community where he was more commonly known as �Uncle Dan.� It was there he reared his family. He had a large number of friends all over the country who were pained to hear of his death. His jovial disposition, sunny smile and word of cheer will be sadly missed by all.

But the one that misses him most of all is the wife-companion that is left behind. They, together, had traveled life�s pathway and shared each others burdens for more than fifty years. She has had other loved ones to leave her and felt that no sorrow could be greater, but she now realizes the full depth of sorrow.

But when she realizes that beyond the Great River there is rest for him, and the glorious hope for her, that they shall soon be reunited on that peaceful shore, she should be comforted and content to wait the call�where sickness, sorrow, pain and death are felt and feared no more.

RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT.

We. The Committee to draft resolutions of respect in the death of Bro. Bennett, beg leave to submit the following:

Daniel Webster Bennett was born in Laurance Co., Miss., Dec. 10, 1852. He gave his soul to Christ and united with the Hebron Baptist Church, Laurence Co., Miss., in 1874. He came to Texas in the same year.

He was married to Miss Rebecca Sheppard in 1876, ten children was born to this union, only five and his wife survive his death which occurred Feb. 22, 1927. He was ordained deacon of the Frost Church in 1908, and was also a faithful member of the I. O. O. F. lodge.

He was tenderly laid to rest in the Ward cemetery, a great host of sorrowing friends and relatives following him to the grave. The services were conducted by Rev. Conway of Italy and Rev. Carraway of Blooming Grove and the Pursley !. O. O. F. lodge performed their beautiful ceremony for the dead.

Bro. Bennett was a sincere Christian gentleman, one of God�s noblemen, always extending the helping hand, always ready to respond to duty�s call. A good Christian, a good father, husband and friend.

Therefore be it resolved, that in the death of Bro. Bennett, Cedar Creek Baptist Church has lost one of its best and most efficient members, always attending services when circumstances would permit, ready and willing to assist in everything that would advance the cause of Christ.

Further be it resolved, that his community has lost one of its best citizens.

Be it further resolved, that a copy of these resolutions be furnished the family of the deceased, a copy be sent to the Baptist Progress and a copy to the Corsicana Sun for publication.

PIONEER RESIDENT OF NAVARRO COUNTY DIED EARLY TUESDAY

G. W. Bennett, age 74 years died at his home in the Ward Bridge community Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home and will be conducted by Rev. Conway of Italy, and Rev. Carraway of Blooming Grove, Baptist ministers.

Burial will be in the Ward cemetery.

The deceased is survived by his wife and five sons, L. A. Bennett, Eldorado; C. W. Bennett, Corsicana; A. E. Bennett, Purdon; D. B. Bennett, Waxahachie, and Earl Bennett, Corsicana. He is an old time resident of the county and lived in Frost for about 25 years. He had been living in the Ward Bridge community about 6 years.

Mrs. Betty Jo Featherston, 88, of Livingston passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Timberwood Nursing & Rehab center in Livingston. She was born on June 10, 1928 in Roane, Texas to Edgar Nat and Clara Mae Allen Thompson.
She and her husband were in the plumbing business for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Featherston; daughter, Karen Lynn Featherston; parents and four siblings.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Estell of Livingston and Sandra Sigford of Fairfield; sons, Don Featherston of Hiwaii and Randy Faetherston of Chico; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren; sister, Wanza Holley.

Mr. Franklin Delano Carroll (�Red�), 84, of Corsicana passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at The Woodlands Health Care Center in The Woodlands, Texas. He was the youngest of five children born to Thomas Edward Carroll and Willie Lee Edwards Carroll on November 1, 1932.

He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1950. Red proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. He worked many years as an electrician and retired from Oil City Iron Works as head of maintenance in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gerald, James and Joe; brothers-in-law James Owen and Billy Owen; and his wife of 57 years, Mildred Joyce Owen Carroll.

He is survived by his two children, Sharon Ann Bush and husband Don of Forney, TX and Dr. David Franklin Carroll and wife Karyn of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren Jonathan Wilcox of Corsicana, TX, Jennifer Wood and husband Brian of Forney, TX, Kaitlyn Carroll, currently studying at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea and Cody Carroll, currently studying at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA, Whitney Smith and Layton Smith of Forney, TX; great-grandchildren Coby Wood and Brady Wood of Forney, TX; sister Peggy Woods of Burkburnett, TX; sisters-in- law Patricia Owen and

Sherry Jennings McGinty, 60, of Buffalo, TX passed away peacefully on December 2, 2016.  She was a wonderful person with a kind loving spirit.   She loved spending time with her family, nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandchildren.

She was born to Cloratho and Ann Reamy.  She was the oldest of six children and had three children of her own. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Cloratho and Ann Reamy, daughter Kristie Jennings, and brother Clay Reamy.

Survived by Pat McGinty, Chris and Kristen Jennings of Eureka, Wes and Jessica Jennings of Eureka; 6 grandchildren, 4 siblings, and a number of nieces and nephews.

May Barnett, a negress who lived in South Corsicana and who owned a good little home in that part of town died in Dallas Saturday night following an operation there and the remains were brought here Sunday afternoon and were interred in the colored cemetery here yesterday.

Ed Chance, colored, aged thirty-nine years, died here yesterday and the remains were interred this afternoon at 3 o'clock, the funeral taking place from the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The funeral was under the auspices of the Ross and Friendship Lodges Knights of Pythias.

Died in El Paso.

Geo. Phillips, colored, who formerly lived here, died in El Paso last week and the remains were brought here last night and interred today in the colored cemetery. The deceased was a son-in-law of Frank Polk an old colored resident here.

Faithful Servant Dies.

Cy Walker, aged 66 years, the faithful colored servant of Mrs. C. W. Jester, died in his room this morning at 2:30 o'clock. On last Wednesday morning Cy was found on the floor of his room unconscious and never regained consciousness before his death. Cy, like the late Court House Joe, was a familiar and well known character in Corsicana and everybody knew and liked him. He has lived in Corsicana for over forty years and has been with the C. W. Jester family for more than fifteen years. In his early days he was a well known colored jockey of Kentucky. Several grown children survive him. His remains were laid to rest today at 3 o'clock in the colored cemetery north of the city.

Charles Witte Was Resident Here For Many Years.

Charles Witte, for many years, a well known painter here, died at the home of his son in Mineola, Texas, yesterday, and the remains will be brought here tomorrow for interment. The remains will reach here over the Houston & Texas Central railroad and interment will be in the Zion�s Rest Cemetery. The deceased is survived by several grown children.

Funeral Took Place This Afternoon.

The remains of the late Chas. Witte, who died in Mineola Tuesday, reached here this afternoon at 2:30 and were taken at once to the Zion�s Rest Methodist church, where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. E. Briggs, pastor of that church. The pall bearers were Dr. Horger, Tatum Wilson, Jas. Nichols, Will Chewning, Walter Castles and Joe Brown. There were numerous pretty flowers and many friends followed the remains to the Zion�s Rest Cemetery where interment took place.

The deceased is survived by five children, Otto Witte, Toda Witte, Bernard Witte, Amael Witte and Miss Freeda Witte. The family resided here for many years and the death of the deceased has caused sorrow to many friends here.

Mrs. J. B. Cox, aged 42, who died in the Zion�s Rest Community early Tuesday morning was buried in Oakwood cemetery.

The funeral service held from the Sutherland Undertaking Parlors. Rev. C. A. Chasteen, pastor of the First Christian church, conducted the funeral services.

The deceased is survived by her husband and four children.

Mrs. Ella Mae Jones, nee Carter, was born at home in Bronson, Sabine County, on Jan. 4, 1927.

Her parents were Lillie Emily Hogan Carter and Daniel A. Carter. She was the youngest of nine children: Isaac William, Audrey Clyde, Fields C., Oma Lou Shelley, Thomas Benton, Augusta Paul, Daniel A., and Little Baby.  She married LeRoy Jones in 1948 after dating for less than two months and they celebrated 55 years of marriage before his passing in 2003.

She retired at age 62 from Neiman Marcus where she worked for 31 years.

Working in the vegetable garden LeRoy planted every year was her favorite way to relax after sitting at a desk all day.

A longtime member of the Richland Ladies Club, she also went to the Corsicana Senior Activity center at least twice and to any other activity where she might be allowed to sing her favorite songs which were old time country and music popular in the 40's.

She was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1972. One calling she had for many years was working in the nursery where the children called her "Granny Jones".

She loved God and her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; parents and eight siblings.

She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Jeanette and Constance lea; a grandson, Bryan Le Alan Downs along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 13, 2016 followed by funeral services at noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Zachary Cloward officiating.  Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Dwight Tanner Sr.

Dwight Tanner Sr., 80, almost 81, of Lawton, Oklahoma went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 with family by his side.

Dwight was born on July 24th, 1935 in the farming community of Purdon, to the late Clemmie and Bessie Tanner.

At the age of four, he was sent to live in a tuberculosis sanitarium.

After his parents died from tuberculosis when he was about eight years old, he was raised in the Corsicana Orphanage.

After graduation he joined the Army National Guard and later joined the United States Air Force, serving from Oct. 10 1954 to May 20, 1958 and attained the rank of Airman Second Class.  During his service he received the Good Conduct Medal.

After marrying Mary Elisabeth Sullivan, they raised their four kids in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

He spent many years employed as an oil field worker until retirement.
Then he enjoyed spending time at his son's shop and with his grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his parents Clemmie and Bessie Tanner; wife Mary; an infant daughter Allison Marie; a sister and brother.

He is survived by his sons Tim and wife Bobbie Jo Tanner of the home; Dwight Jr. and wife Tally Tanner of Lawton, and Gwen Tanner of Lawton; daughter Treba Pacheco of Lawton, grandchildren: Christopher, Monika, Brianna, Tyler, Tanna and Timmy Tanner, Cassandra, Jaylen, Gwenyth, Cecilia and Sage Tanner, Jessica, Wayne, E.J., and Justin Tanner, Leonard and John Wesley Pacheco; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2016 at Comanche Nation Funeral Home Chapel with Dwight Tanner Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in Rock Creek Cemetery, Duncan, under the direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.

Patsy Stevenson was born in Archer City in 1935. God called her home on Saturday, June 11, 2016.
Patsy grew up in Holliday and was the oldest of six children.

She cherished those days and passed many of those memories on to her children who cherish them as well.

She worked at Woolworth's in Wichita Falls and met the love of her life, Walter Stevenson, who was an Airman stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base. They married in 1952.

Patsy and Walter moved to Purdon in 1967 and raised their six children there. Her children attended school in Dawson.

Patsy worked as a certified unit secretary at Navarro Regional Hospital for 17 years.

Patsy was a strong woman who was fiercely loyal to those she loved. She sacrificed so much in life for her children and made sure they were well loved, well fed, and had a strong foundation of home and family. She gave her children an appreciation for knowledge, fairness, and understanding.

Her children love and honor her amazing influence on their lives as well as the lives of others. They give thanks to God for blessing them with such a wonderful mother.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents Charles Dewey and Martha Jane Provence, her sister Pauline Bennett, her husband Walter Stevenson II, and her grandsons Joel Brown and Jared Cook.

Patsy is survived by two sisters, Peggy Walston and Patricia Giles; two brothers, Paul Provence and Perry Provence; six children Darrell Stevenson and wife Marty, Eldora Stevenson, Walter Stevenson III, Lenora Brown and husband Joey, Donna Fathman and husband James, Laurie Sanders and husband Steve; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016 in the Chapel at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home with time to visit with her family following the service.

Patsy will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery next to her husband.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1926 in Corsicana.

Aline completed her formal education in Corsicana. She was a prominent beautician for many years prior to completing her nursing school in 1971.

She was the director of Planned Parenthood for over 20 years and a community activist for many years.

Aline was preceded in death by her parents, Eckerson and Vera Jones Green; husband, George Marshall, Sr.; daughter, Vera Marie Nelson Parhms and sisters, Veline Cephus and Glodean Brown.

She is survived her brother, Willie Brown; Son, George Marshall, Jr.; daughters, Rosie M. Bernice Fisher, of Corsicana went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday morning, June 18, 2016.
She was born on March 10, 1922, in Drumright, Oklahoma.
She received a Master's Degree and served as a Registered Nurse in Oklahoma, and later, in the Dallas area for many years.
Bea's life work was to help people. As a nurse she met and ministered to thousands of people in both physical and spiritual needs.
As a strong Christian, Bea faced life courageously and joyfully, with patience, and with never a complaint.
While as a nurse in Enid General Hospital, in Oklahoma, Bea met a patient who the other personnel didn't want to deal with. Being one who never knew a stranger for long, Bea not only got the patient cared for but also fell in love with Otis Fisher (the grumpy patient) and later married him. They shared a wonderful and fruitful life together, in both good times and bad.
During retirement she and her husband, Otis, moved to Corsicana, where they renovated one of the fine, old mansions and also operated a furniture refinishing and clock repair shop.
Also, they hosted Home Bible Studies several days a week for many years.
People from different towns and different denominations attended and were blessed by Bro. Otis' amazing and deep Bible teaching, and Ms.
Bea's wise insights and her lively sense of humor and quick wit.
Bea was one of 11 children born to Jesse and Martha Bull.
She was preceded in death by her husband Otis, her daughter Beverley West, and eight of her siblings who included five brothers:
Carlos Campbell, Mack Reynolds, Arthur Elisha, Wiley Arnold and William Neal; three Sisters, Hattie Mozelle Curtis, Murl Smith and Martha Louise Henson.
She is survived by one sister and one brother, Ina (Sis) Adler of Caldwell, Idaho, and Bob Bull, of Dallas.
Bea leaves sadness and loneliness mingled with gladness and celebration in the hearts of many friends, and relatives.
She will be greatly missed by her church, Park Meadows Church, of Corsicana, where she was a most wonderful example to the young women of the church for 18 years, and where we all miss her delightful desserts, her soft voice and her deep wisdom.
She remains a part of our lives, and holds a permanent and special place in our hearts.
"That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."

2016 at the age of 87 in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Mary was born on July 25, 1928 to Charlie and Loney Fincher in Waxahachie.
She was a member of Northside Baptist Church where she helped in the Care Center for many years and was a member of the choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Buchanan, her parents and other family members.
Mary is survived by sons; Larry Buchanan and wife Kathleen of Buffalo, and Gary Buchanan and wife Judy of Youngsville, Louisiana; daughter, Sharon Franzke and husband David of Corsicana and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana with Dr. Rick Lamb officiating.
Interment will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Buchanan, Ray Lowe, Ray Webb, Steven Edelman, Donald Howard, Tristan Howard and Alex Angona.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

Mary Fields, 100 of Kerens, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016 at Twilight Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ora Lou Denson Trammell; husband D.F (Doc) Fields; children, Billy Wayne Fields and Barbara Kay Cook along with five brothers.
Mrs. Fields is survived by her son Keith and daughter-n-law Rita Fields; grandsons, Chris and Angela Henderson, Brian and Carolyn Fields; granddaughters, Keri and Matt Adams, Kim and Mike Walker, Kelly Goodwin, and Kasey Holt; 15 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildrens.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016 at Paschal Funeral Home.
Graveside services is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Prairie Point Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Frank Upchurch officiating.

CHESTER NELMS MET ACCIDENTAL DEATH OIL FIELD FRIDAY

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON BURIAL IN OAKWOOD

Funeral services for Chester D. Nelms, 41 years old, who met death accidentally in the oil fields late Friday, will be held at family home on West Fourteenth avenue in the Thorpe addition at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Deceased was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Members of this order will attend the funeral in a body.

Mr. Nelms is survived by his wife and five children.

Deceased was lease foreman for Mitchell & Jones and Brannon & Murray, on the J. O. Burke farm lying just east of Chambers creek, near Powell. A heavy rig belt is said to have broken in twain and an iron clamp struck him on the head. The belt struck his right ankle, breaking it. The man�s skull was badly fractured. Death was almost instantaneous.

The ambulance from Sutherland�s Undertaking Parlors went out and brought the body to town. The report of the accident was telephoned in from the field office of the McMann Oil & Oil Co.

FUNERAL SERVICES SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOR CHESTER NELMS

The funeral of the late Chester Nelms, who met instant death in the Powell oil field Friday, took place from the family home in the Thorp addition yesterday afternoon, with interment in Oakwood. Rev. E. P. Kennedy officiated and there was a large attendance and many beautiful flowers.

PIONEER RESIDENT OF CORSICANA DIED HERE THIS MORNING

W. H. Metcalf, aged 75 years, died at his home, 1903 North Beaton street, Thursday morning at 11:45 o'clock, after a lingering illness. Mr. Metcalf had been a resident of Corsicana thirty years, coming to Texas from Alabama where he was born. His wife died March 24, of this year.

He is survived by nine children as follows: Mrs. Doke King, Albert Metcalf and H. W. Metcalf, all of Corsicana; Alma Metcalf, Dallas; Mrs. J. B. Broughton, Fort Worth; Mrs. Clarence Randle, Wichita Falls; Frank Metcalf, Kaufman; Mrs. J. B. Martin, Fort Worth; Ernest Metcalf, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home, the Rev. D. A. Chisholm, pastor of the Eleventh Avenue Methodist church, conducting the services. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

Mrs. Lena Mae Russell, aged 59 years, wife of J. F. Russell, died at the family home, 516 East Tenth avenue this morning at 8:20 o'clock and the funeral will take place with burial in Oakwood cemetery this afternoon at 5 o'clock. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. R. Girard, Lowe, pastor of the First Presbyterian church.

3 SERIOUSLY INJURED GRADE CROSSING HERE

INJURED PEOPLE ARE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL PASSENGER HIT AUTO

J. F. RUSSELL IS REPORTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION---MAY BE FATAL

The northbound H. & T. C. passenger train, due in Corsicana 3:15 p.m. struck a Ford sedan at the Fourteenth street crossing this afternoon, injuring three person.

Sutherland�s ambulance answered the call and rushed the injured people to the County Hospital. The sedan was completely demolished by the compact with the train and parts of the car were scattered along the right-of-way.

Conductor Cecil Farla and Engineer Ledbetter were in charge of the train which was the first section of train No. 31. The engine was No. 546. The train was delayed 35 minutes on account of the accident.

J. F. Russell is perhaps fatally injured, having a broken leg and broken arm, and is thought to be suffering internal injuries. Hospital attaches give little hope for his recovery.

Clyde Russell, son of J. F. Russell, who was driving the car, is badly bruised about the head and body and may be internally injured.

Crawford suffered many cuts about the face and arms as the result of broken glass, and is considerably bruised as well as suffering from the shock.

According to Clyde Russell, driver of the car, they were going west when they were hit and did not see train until it was too late to avoid the accident. The Russell�s live just east of the track and had started from their home to town. The automobile was in the middle of the track when hit broadside by the train.

J. F. RUSSELL DIED FROM INJURIES IN CROSSING ACCIDENT

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD FRIDAY MORNING AT 10 O�CLOCK

J. F. Russell, 58 years old, well known Corsicana citizen, died at 5:30 o'clock in the County Hospital Wednesday afternoon as a result of injuries received when he was struck by the northbound Southern Pacific passenger train.

Funeral services will be held at the home of his son, Carroll Russell, at 10 o'clock Friday morning. Rev. L. C. Powell, Baptist minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

Mr. Russell is survived by four sons, Carroll, Lee, Jack and Clyde Russell, all of Corsicana, and one daughter, Mrs. Norma Woods, of Zion�s Rest. He had been a resident of Corsicana about 35 years.

Mr. Russell was injured about 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon when the automobile in which he was riding collided with the train at the South Fourteenth street intersection. His son, Clyde, was also severely injured in the same accident. He is in the County Hospital. Fred Crawford was also in the car at the time of the accident and received severe injuries. The injured were all taken to the hospital in Sutherland�s ambulance and medical aid given. Mr. Russell was the most seriously injured and he died after lingering almost three hours.

Earl Bower, two-year-old son of Rexford Bower, died at the family home, 904 East First avenue, last night of inflammation of the bowels, and the remains were interred in Oakwood cemetery this afternoon.

The father of the child is a moving picture machine operator at the Majestic Theatre.

She was a native of King Willow in Navarro county and a resident of Corsicana most of her life.

Survivors include six sons, Rex. Rower, Jr., Robert Bower, Melba Bower, and Miller Bower, all of Corsicana, Eddie Bower of Longview and Wayne Bower of Hillsboro; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Bennett of Victoria and Mrs. Jerry Nell Jordan of Corsicana; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Bower of Montgomery, Ala.; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, five brothers, Vestal Coker of Dallas, Bernard Coker of Greenwood and Bernice Coker, Edgar Coker, and Wesley Coker, all of Barry; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Cooper of Mesquite, Mrs. Odessa Dill of Corsicana, and Mrs. Euda Barnett of Navarro, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Rita Bower, one-day-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Bower, Jr., died in Memorial Hospital Saturday.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Memorial Baptist Church with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

The rites were conducted by Rev. H. G. Starkey, pastor.

Paul Samuel Loosier of Corsicana passed away at Trisun Care Center in Corsicana on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 at the age of 85. He was born to Alton Samuel Loosier and Ada Elizabeth Hawley Loosier on Feb. 27, 1931 in Brownsboro, Henderson County.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War in a field artillery unit earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Paul retired from Oil City Iron Works after 25 years as a Mill Operator and continued to work every day until his health deteriorated. He was very involved as a member of the Westhill Church of Christ caring for the facilities and grounds.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Daries Loosier who passed away in June 2014.
Paul is survived by his children; Garnette Loosier Russell and husband Dickie, Alton Samuel Loosier and wife Carolyn and David Loosier and wife Becky. Grandchildren: Sylvia Nowell, Susan Russell, Harvey Loosier, Michael Loosier, Amanda Simpson and Daniel Loosier. Great grandchildren: David Tapia, Joanna Tapia, Ariel Loosier, Kales Loosier Scales, Andrew Loosier, Morgan Loosier, Landon Simpson, Ryan Paul Simpson and Audrey Simpson. Mrs. Etta Greenup, aged 60 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. A. Bird, 1210 West Eleventh avenue Monday afternoon at 2:10 o'clock. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, the funeral cortege leaving the Sutherland undertaking parlors at noon. Interment was in the Dunn cemetery, near Eureka. The Rev. Mr. Utley had charge of the services.
