Ida Eva Burleson went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 1, 2022. Eva was born on January 19, 1928, to Clem and Katie Garner in Navarro County.
Her parents passed away when she was very young, and she then lived with her sister Jeanette and husband James Owens. She worked at McClellans store with Bessie Mae. Once, she went with Bessie Mae to visit family, and there met the love of her life, Arthur Burleson, while he was on leave from the navy. On January 19, 1946, Eva's 18th birthday, they were married and went on to enjoy 67 years of marriage.

Eva was a loving mother to three boys who loved her dearly. She loved to fish and could out fish anybody around her. She passed her love of fishing down to her children and grandchildren. Even at 90 years old, she would love to go to her son Randall's place, any chance she'd get, to throw a line and sit by the tank.

She was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for her family. She passed down her love for cooking to her daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. She worked at Haggar Slacks, and was a wonderful seamstress, although crocheting was her passion. Her and A.D. played dominos every week for years with friends and family, often times with a grandkid tagging along. She was a loving and wonderful grandmother, who could always make you feel at home when you were around her. Grandma had a great sense of humor and had the greatest laugh. She was mostly soft spoken but could sometimes surprise you with her wit and humor.

She loved her family very much and showed it through her words and actions. There are many memories that her family and friends will cherish forever and laugh about for years to come. She will be missed fiercely.

She is survived by son, Randall Burleson and wife Brenda of Emmett; son, Billy Burleson of Emmett and son Garland Burleson of Corsicana; grandson Steve Burleson and wife Sharon of Emmett; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Reed and husband Joe of Mertens; Josh Burleson and wife Elaina of Emmett; Elijah Burleson of Emmett, and Johnathan, Jacob, and Jayci Burleson, all of Emmett; great-great grandchildren, Leah and Waylon Burleson, and Lillian and Hayes Reed; niece Earlene Bowling and husband Johnny; nephew Kenneth Owen; nephew Don Owens and wife Juanita, and many great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Arthur Burleson. She is also preceded in death by her grandson, Dustin Burleson; parents, Clem and Katie Garner; brother, Tom Garner; sister Jeanette Owens and husband James; sister, Mary Lou Davis; sisters-in-law, Mary Burleson, Northera Toten, and Bessie Mae Tucker.

Roberta "Janelle" (Davis) Pepper Chew
Mar 23, 1930 Mar 19, 2021

Roberta "Janelle" (Davis) Pepper Chew
MARCH 23, 1930 MARCH 19, 2021

Died of natural causes just a few days before what would have been her 91st birthday. Born to parents Ezra & Roberta Davis in Big Springs, Texas, though she didnt live there long. She grew up in McKinney, Texas and went to college at what was then North Texas State University where she met and married Jim Pepper (James Earl Pepper). Their 1st child, Joani, was born in 1949, followed by Jack in 1950 and their last child, Jeff in 1952.

She went back to college after all the kids were old enough to pass back & forth with her sister Joan who was also going to college with small children at home. The story I heard is that whoever was in class at the time would run out to the car waiting at the curb and change places with the person who had been driving. The new driver would take off with all 6 kids and then repeat the process as necessary.

She graduated from college with a dual degree in English and Art and got her teaching certificate. She started in Grapevine and then moved to Farmers Branch where she taught at R. L. Turner High School in Carrollton, Texas, where she became the bane of her daughter Joanis life as she taught the same grade as the one Joani was in from Freshman thru Senior years. Joani never did anything that Janelle didnt already know about.

She then moved to Washington DC with then husband Jay Crawley and got involved in Special Education, a field where she spent the rest of her career. She learned to write grant proposals in order to get funding for programs like Head Start and was successful in getting programs started in Houston, TX, Riverton, WY, and Harlingen, TX.

She met the love of her life, Paul Chew, in Houston and after they were married, they followed his dream of living in the mountains and moved to Dubois, WY. Although they were in their mid-50s when they moved there, they learned to ride snowmobiles and dad became a horseback hunting guide. They also started RVing and went to Alaska twice, and covered most of the western United States. They returned to Texas because they missed their families and the elevation in WY where they lived was 7200 and had started to impact her health.

She was a great scratch cook and Paul (Pablo to his family and close friends) loved her pies best of all. Everywhere they lived she taught young women to make fresh pies from scratch.

They lived in Brownsville and then Harlingen where mom worked at Texas State Technical College and retired from there when she was 73. They moved to Bastrop where they lived until the fire of 2011 that burned their house to the ground along with about 1665 other family homes. From there they moved to Wimberley, TX where Paul had spent summers as a child. They spent the rest of their years in San Marcos.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ezra and Roberta Davis, her older brother Bill Davis, and younger sister Joan Greene. She is survived by her husband of over 30 years, G. Paul Chew, her three children: Joani Pepper, Jack Pepper& his wife Tara Denys, and Jeff Pepper and his wife Joy. Plus grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews too numerous to list.

No services are planned at this time due to the covid pandemic.
