SCHOOL HOUSE BURNED

Prof. E. E. Fowler Charged with Destroying the Emmett School House.

Corsicana, Tex., Jan. 9. Prof. E. E. Fowler was arrested last night by Deputy Sheriff Frazier Spivy. Prof. Bryant. Prof. Gamewell and Mr. Jackson. The arrest was made at Harmony Grove, tem miles west of the city. Prof. Fowler was in the pulpit when arrested. He is a professor of vocal and instrumental music and was giving a performance at the time of his arrest.  He was not armed. He was lodged in the county jail last night.
He is charged with burning the school house at Emmett, a notice of which appeared in The News yesterday. His home is in Fulton, Ky. He posted bills for an entertainment to be given in the Emmett School building, but was denied the use of the house.
Prof Fowler was seen by The News reporter this evening in the county jail. He protested his innocence and said he was arrested through prejudice on suspicion. He says he was sick at the residence of Rev. Ben Green, a Baptist preacher, who lives one mile from the school house, on the night it was burned, which was Friday. Prof. Fowler says: Mr. Smith, one of the trustees, refused the use of the school house for my entertainment." Prof. Fowler was born in 1859. A reward of $150 was offered for his arrest.
