Located on Farm Road 638, twenty miles
southwest of Corsicana in Navarro County
Texas, began as a settlement for workers on the large Eldorado
Ranch. The area was first settled before the Civil War, but the first business,
a grocery store, was not established until about 1910. A school was in operation
at Eldorado by the early 1900s, and in 1906 it had an enrollment of forty-eight.
At its height around the time of World War I, Eldorado Center had a number of
houses, a church, a school, a cotton gin, and a store. By the mid-1930s only a
store and a number of houses remained there. The community's estimated
population in 1936 was fifty. The store closed after World War II, and in the
mid-1960s, only a few widely scattered houses remained in the area. In the early
1990s Eldorado Center was a dispersed rural community.
