John Thomas Smith was born on Sept 16, 1857 in Weir Co., MS. He married Emily Pearlee Keen, daughter of Jacob B. Keen and Catharine S. (Lever) Keen. John and Emily had 11 children. They migrated to Navarro County Texas from Weir Mississippi in the late 1800's (approx. 1867). They lived just east of Purdon in Navarro County Texas until his death on Feb 8, 1930. Their oldest daughter and her husband, Creola and Jim Miller farmed the land until the 1940's. Another of their daughters, Kathryn (a Smith who married a Smith) and Charles Smith bought the land and kept it until the early 1950's
