Deed
Forty-Nine Years Old Filed For Record Friday
A deed 49 years old was to be recorded Friday, Wm. Conner of Corsicana, stated
Friday morning, from his uncle, E. P. Conner, for the Conner cemetery near
Hester, northwest of Corsicana.
The deed was for one acre of land for the cemetery, and named three trustees, E.
P. Conner, S. L. Conner, father of Wm. Conner and Rev. Mat Beasley, a Baptist
minister. The deed was executed in 1882.
The instrument provides that the three trustees may name their successors, or in
the event they fail to name their successors, the eldest heir living within
Navarro county will become trustee for the cemetery.
All of the trio of original trustees have died and have been buried in the plot,
and none appointed successors.
The eldest heirs of the trio are residing in Corsicana at the present time, Mr.
Conner, succeeding his father, Mrs. Mattie Simpson succeeding her father, E. P.
Conner; and Mrs. S. Z. Burke, adopted daughter of Rev. Beasley, being the third
trustee.
There are about fifty graves in the cemetery. The Conner cemetery has set aside
for the burial of members of the three families, but a number of others have
been buried there, and no refusals for permits to inter bodies have been made,
Mr. Conner pointed out.
