Windle Wayne Prater, 49, of Richland Hills went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in Richland Hills.

Celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. today at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville. Graveside services will be 6 p.m. today at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Corsicana.

Windle was born Aug. 8, 1956, in Corsicana to his loving parents, Windle F. and Monte L. Prater. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J. Lloyd and Martha L. Averitt and Okla F. and Bille Prater. He loved God, family and friends. In April of last year, he eloquently paid tribute to his parents on their 50th wedding anniversary.

As a young man he participated in church activities at North Richland Hills Baptist Church, where he came to know his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed travel, hunting, fishing trips with family and friends and cherished their camaraderie. He graduated from North Texas State University, now UNT, in 1983 with a degree in English literature. His fascination with the written word never waned and covered a breadth of topics including classic fiction, biographies, history and politics. The writings of William Faulkner were a particular favorite. His personal library contains over 400 volumes. Windle followed his father into the family business, where he worked for 23 years and was proud of their craftsmanship and quality of their work. His grace, inner strength and quiet dignity will be remembered by all who knew him.

Survivors include his parents, Windle F. and Monte L. Prater of Richland Hills; brother, Mark Prater, and sister-in-law, Kennie, of Coppell; sister, Amy Buitron, and brother-in-law, Joe; and adored niece, Katy, of Fort Worth.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Services were held April 7, 1999, at Dresden Methodist Church. Burial was in the Dresden Cemetery.

Mr. Haden is dearly remembered by his 6th grade students of years past when he also served as grade school principal. He contributed highly in the education of many Blooming Grove ex-students of today. He was also a member of the Blooming Grove Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Edna, of Dresden; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Rachael Haden of Raleigh, and Jack and Judy Haden of Liberty; daughters, Wanda Haden Robertson of Houston, and Jill Haden of Dresden; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Don Baumgartner of Raleigh; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and brother, J. H. Haden of Houston. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clovis Haden. Arrangements by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Harris was born April 18, 1929, in Corsicana.

Mr. Poe was born Jan. 6, 1973, in Corsicana to Loyal “Buddy” Edwin Poe Jr. and Carol Twomey Poe. He was a cable technician for the telephone company.

He was preceded in death by his father; grandfathers, Thomas Twomey and Loyal Poe Sr.; and stepfather, Pete Horvath.

Survivors include his daughter, Gwendlyn Parks Poe of Farmers Branch; mother, Carol Horvath of Corsicana; grandmother, Othelia Riggs of Corsicana; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Sandy Ivie of Carrollton; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Jeremy Robertson of Buffalo; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Willie James “Sonny Boy” Solomon Jr., 71, of Corsicana passed away Monday, May 8, 2006, at his residence.

Wake service will be 6 p.m. Friday at Ross and Johnson Mortuary Chapel.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Harmony Baptist Church, 400 E. 12th Ave., with Pastor Joe Hubbard Sr. officiating and Bishop John Baker as eulogist. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Glen Dell Solomon, Dion Edom, Charles Parrish, Vernon Edom, Christopher Solomon, Kenneth Vaughn and Joe Nolen. Honorary pallbearers will be brothers, Cornell Solomon, Roy Lee Solomon, Clarence Solomon, Billy Coy Solomon and Mack Client Solomon.

Mr. Solomon was born Oct. 26, 1934, in Streetman. He confessed a faith in Christ in his early life and united with Macedonia Baptist Church in Streetman under Pastor Sheffield. He later united with Harmony Baptist Church in Corsicana under the late Pastor Clem Jones. He retired from Oil City Iron Works after 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Ann; father, Willie J. Solomon Sr.; mother, Annie Jewell Solomon; sisters, Annie Bell Solomon and Tinnie Mae Mims; brother, Lezell Solomon; and nephew, Ezard Bird.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years, Annie Doris Solomon of Corsicana; four children, Don Durant Solomon, Sheree Renea Hubbard (Billy), Jerry Ray Solomon (Colleen), Barbara Solomon (fiancé Marcus), all of Corsicana; godson, Charles Parrish (Fannie); three sisters, Ollie Mae Solomon Baker, Frankie Lee Edom and Prezell Solomon, all of Corsicana; five brothers, Cornell Solomon, Clarence Earl Solomon (Hattie), Billy Coy Solomon (Hazel), and M.C. Solomon, all of Corsicana, and Roy Lee Solomon of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ms. Jones was born Oct. 5, 1959, in Dawson. She attended Dawson High School. She later moved to Dallas where she graduated. She continued her education and became HHA CNA and phlebotomist. She was self-employed. She was a member of Bonnie View Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Palmer; and one brother.

Survivors include her loving and devoted mother, Emma L. Palmer of Dallas; foster parents, Allen and Beathana Campbell of Purdon; one sister, Frances Hemphill of Blooming Grove; two brothers, Fredrick Campbell (Betty) of Lewisville and Abe Campbell of Purdon; two nephews, Johnny English III and Fredrick O. Campbell; two nieces, Amber Morris and Bethany Campbell; five aunts; one uncle; a special friend, the Rev. K. Fredrick; special cousin, Annie Lusk; and a host of cousins and friends.

Helen Sanders Elliott Johnson of Teague died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in Tyler. She was born March 28, 1924, to Earl and Jennie Sanders of Hubbard. She was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Elliott Carrier; and grandson, Matthew Lane.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, R.J. and Shirley Hill, Duke Elliott, and Dan and Tammy Elliott; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Jerry Lane; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving partner, Everett “Heavy” West.

Mrs. Ivie was born May 30, 1939, in Pryor, Okla., to Clarence Elmer and Eva Newcomb Dial. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a medical transcriptionist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents, William D. and Novie Meade; brother, C.W. Dial; and sister, Patti Wilcox.

Survivors include her husband, James R. Ivie of Corsicana; son, James R. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel in Blooming Grove with the Rev. David Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at Dresden Cemetery.

Mr. Adamson was born July 28, 1917, in Holbrook, Neb., to George W. Adamson and Rachel Pierson Adamson. He was a welder.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra E. Adamson in 1999.

Survivors include his sons, Harold Lee Adamson of Frost and Bob Adamson of Milford; daughters, Carol Martin of Streetman and Diann Norris of Frost; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Dorothy R. Anschutz, 83, of Lucas, Ohio, died unexpectedly Friday, May 12, 2006, at Med Central Mansfield. She was born Nov. 19, 1922, in Barry, Texas, to Roy and Ethel (Ryan) Daniel. Dorothy retired from Richland Hospital in the housekeeping department and loved gardening, yard work and playing spinner.

Octavia Dimas Pinales, 83, of Corsicana passed away Sunday, May 14, 2006, in Corsicana.

Mrs. Pinales was born Feb. 9, 1923 in Lorena to Lonnie and Mary Dimas. To the family there was not a better example of Proverbs 31 than their mother, Octavia Dimas Pinales. What better day could she be received by the Lord than on Mother’s Day. She modeled servitude in all her actions and practiced hospitality to all on a daily basis. She shared of her means and the Lord truly blessed her abundantly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim E. Pinales; and brothers Jessie and John Dimas.

Myles Franklin Werner, 87, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2006, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Mr. Werner was born Oct. 1, 1918 in Finzell, Md., to James S. and Linda Caton Werner.

Mr. Werner worked at Wal-Mart greeting people at the door for more than 19 years after his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking and working in his yard.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Werner.

Elnora Ragan Kiser, 73, of Huntsville went home to be with her Lord on May 12, 2006, in Houston. Surrounded by loved ones, she ended a busy life of service focused on family, faith and friends.

Her family will receive visitors from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. The Reverends James Featherstone, Frank Robertson and Reagan Cooksey will be officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Corsicana.

Pallbearers will be Chris Kiser, Brandon Hunt, Ryan Hunt, Ren Kiser, Mark Dibble, Matthew Dibble, Richard Reed and Dustin Fowler. Honorary pallbearer will be Bryan Reed.

Elnora was born July 29, 1932, in El Dorado Springs, Mo., to James and Lilac Ragan. She was a graduate of Corsicana High School.

Elnora was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville, faithfully serving for many years with the Women of Calvary Baptist. She was also a volunteer Auxiliary member of Huntsville (Hermann) Memorial Hospital and a singer in the Huntsville Seniors Choir. Elnora enjoyed the last years traveling with friends to new cities and countries. At home she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and relaxed with quilting and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, George Ragan; and her husband of 50 years, Kenneth Maurice Kiser.

Elnora is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Raymond and Dottie Kiser, Michael and Debbie Kiser, and Philip and Bambi Kiser, all of Huntsville; daughter and son-in-law Susan and John Gordon of Cedar Park; sisters Emma Isom of Idalou and Leta Harrison of Ennis; grandchildren Chris Kiser and wife Lisa, Sally Kiser, Ashley Fowler and husband Dustin, Michele Reed and husband Richard, DeAnna Kiser, Brandon and Ryan Hunt, and Ren and Brittany Kiser; great grandson Bryan Reed; step grandchildren Mark Dibble, Matthew Dibble and wife Misty, and step great grandchildren Joshua, Brittany, Justin, Bailey and Austin Dibble.

Mitchell Wayne Paul Klieber, age 47, of Corsicana entered eternal rest Wednesday, May 9, 2006, in the VA Medical Center Hospital, Dallas.

Mr. Klieber was a native of Louisiana. He was a barge captain for Moran Towing Inc. He was a disabled United States Marine veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He also served as presidential detail for President Jimmy Carter.

He was preceded in death by his one brother, Danny Klieber.

He is survived by his wife, April Sabrina Klieber of Corsicana; two godchildren, Dillon Michael Tullos and Courtney Lynn Ducote; his mother and father, Mavis George of Flatwoods, La., and Kenneth Klieber of Columbus, Miss.; stepparents, Robert George of Flatwoods, La., and Margaret Klieber of Columbus, Miss., and Leroy and Ellen Brandow of Abita Springs, La.; one brother, Steve Klieber of Columbus, Miss.; five sisters, Rose Klieber Tullos of Columbus, Miss., Kathy Klieber Davis of Fishville, La., Tammy Anderson of Pollock, La., Kimberly Sanders of Colfax, La., and Missy Troquille of Flatwoods, La. Doris York moved to Corsicana, TX. with her husband Tom Ovalle in 1964 when she was 20 years old. In later years she divorced Mr. Ovalle and married Bobby York of Corsicana. Bobby and Doris have been together for 20 years. She went to work at Falcon Business Forms in 1980.

Gene Ray Davis was born on February 27, 1947 in Corsicana, Texas to parents Harold Hughes Davis and Mary Pauline Pierce Davis. He moved to Albany as a child and graduated from Albany High School in 1965. Gene married Linda Faye Moore on August 22, 1969 in Albany. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Christian Motorcycle Association. He worked for Ezell Aviation. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Ann Davis.

Gene is survived by his wife, Linda Davis of Albany; 2 sons: James Russell Davis of Fort Worth and Jeffrey Ray Davis & fiancée, Meagan of Abilene; and his father- and mother-in-law: J.M. & Maxine Moore, of Albany.

He was the son of the late Gordon and Mary Galbraith, and was a member of Monaghan Baptist Church. Having served in the U.S. Army during World War II, he was awarded the Bronze Star.

He worked as Director of Manufacturing for Stone Manufacturing. In 1980 he moved to Corsicana, Texas, and retired from Hat Brands.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Galbraith; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dr. Jim Anderson; a son, Bruce Galbraith; a sister, Evelyn Burlew; three grandchildren, John Anderson, Laura Anderson and Julie Anderson; a great-grandson, Noah Anderson; two nieces, Candace Arnold and Kathy Brady.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12, 2006, at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home.

MENARD — Louise Leggett died of cancer in Emory, Texas, on April 29, 2006, at the age of 93.
The daughter of Era and Guenther Kiehne, she was born in Corsicana, Texas, in 1913. After spending her younger years in Dallas, her family moved to Menard, Texas, where she graduated from Menard High School in 1930.

She attended Abilene Christian College before returning to Menard to teach third grade. She married M.S. “Toogy” Leggett in 1933 and became a homemaker.

Louise was a former PTA president and a member of the El Progresso Club and the Episcopal Church Women. She lived by the motto, “Seize the day!” All who knew her admired her independent spirit and incredible work ethic. She was a talented artist. Those who received a hand-painted note card from Louise would often frame it for display. Working in her large garden every day was a joy for her, and she freely shared its bounty with friends and family. The written word was Louise’s greatest passion. She was an avid writer and a reader of all genres with a special love of poetry. Her repertoire of memorized poems was unparalleled, and she enjoyed reciting poetry for audiences on any occasion.

She is survived by two children, Gloria Little and husband John, and Curtis Leggett and wife Margo; five grandchildren, Liza Leggett, Heather Bryant, Lendy Jones, Carla Berg and David Leggett; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sue Leggett, who died at birth; her husband, Toogy, who died in 1973; and one grandson, Curtis Bryant.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, at the Menard Calvary Episcopal Church.

Alta Jo Gossage died suddenly May 17, 2006, in Whitewright, as a result of an auto accident. Jo, as she was known, was born Jan. 19, 1932, to Dewey and Vada Wright. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Trinity Baptist Church in Sherman. Pastor Paul Ryan will officiate. Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.

Jo married Kenneth Gossage on Jan. 14, 1967, in Corsicana. Prior to moving to Sherman in 1975, she worked for 15 years as a receptionist at Wolf Brand Chili.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Louise Brooks; and brother, Dewey Wright.

She is survived by her husband, Ken Gossage of Sherman; brother, Franklin Wright of Maypearl; son, Clark Craig and wife Cynthia of Kingwood; daughter, Fredda Jo Craig of Sherman; granddaughter, Lee Ellen Collins and husband Jared of Sherman; grandson, Josh Craig and wife Lindsey of Corsicana; granddaughter, Chelsea Nunn and husband Ryan of Corsicana; granddaughters, MacKenzie Morton and Katelyn Morton of Kingwood; two great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Jo was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Sherman.

Pallbearers will be Lynn Watts, Don Blakey, Frank Brown, Andy Faber, Harold Moses and Gary Park.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 2627 Loy Lake Road, Sherman, TX 75090.

James Miller, 39, of Blooming Grove passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at his residence.

Margaret Marie Hestand, 83, of Powell passed away at home with her family beside her Thursday, May 18, 2006.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Memorial Park with Brother Bill Honea officiating.

Mrs. Hestand was born July 28, 1922, in Richland to Edgar N. and Clara Allen Thompson. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She was a grocery clerk for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Hestand in 1982; brothers, A.Z. Thompson and Bill Thompson; and son-in-law, Tommy Mahoney.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kay Hestand of Powell; daughters and son-in-law, Starlett and Wayne Cotten of Powell and Vicki Mahoney of Corsicana; granddaughters and spouses, Debra and Jaime Pulaski of Riverview, Fla., Tina and Greg Hembree of Houston, Cynthia Cotten, Karon and Derek Meredith, and Lisa and Johnnie Humphries, all of Corsicana; grandsons and spouses, Chuck Cotten of Powell, Jeff and Beth Hestand, and David and Melinda Mahoney, all of Corsicana; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters their spouses, Dorothy Collinsworth of Corsicana, Allen and Nancy Thompson of Navarro, Wanza and Allen Holley of Garland, and Betty Featherson of Emhouse; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Grace Arney, Guy and wife Carolyn Hestand, and Raymond Hestand, all of Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles Edward Gill
Dec 22, 1941 - May 13, 2006

Charles Edward Gill, 64, of Joshua passed away with his family at his bedside on Saturday, May 13, 2006, after a heroic battle with lung cancer. During his fight, Charles never lost his sense of humor and continues to inspire all touched by his endurance.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2006, at the Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Burleson. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Joshua Baptist Church in Joshua. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Joshua. Joshua Fire Department Chaplain Jesse Davis will officiate.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Joshua Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Charles was born on Dec. 22, 1941, to Ervie Erie and Lenna Agnes Gill. After spending several years in Frost, Charles and his family moved to Forest Hill. He was a longtime member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. Charles graduated from Trimble Tech High School and earned his teaching certificate in photography from Texas A&M University. Driven and ambitious, Charles pursued all of his professions and hobbies with zeal. He worked as a photographer for Channel 5 News in Dallas, served in the United States Air Force as a photographer during the Vietnam War, and taught photography at Brewer High School.

While photography was his talent, firefighting was his calling. He began his firefighting career, which spanned over 50 years, as a junior firefighter with the Forest Hill Fire Department, eventually retiring from the Arlington Fire Department in 1998. Even in retirement, Charles continued to work with the Joshua Volunteer Fire Department as battalion chief.

While Charles was also an amateur radio operator, the one role he enjoyed and served best was being dad to family and friends. Thank you for sharing your life with us, Dad. But more importantly, thank you for sharing with us your fight. We choose to face tomorrow with grace because you, too, never gave up.

Charles is survived by his twin daughters, Stacy and Michelle Gill of Joshua; sons, Brian Gill of Beeville and Chris Gill and wife, Amy, of Cleburne; two grandsons, Dustin and Brandon Gill of Cleburne; and many friends, including his Joshua Fire Department “family.”

Mr. Gary Dan Holloway, 53, of Dresden passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2006 in Corsicana, Texas. He was born on August 14, 1952 in Corsicana, Texas to Paul & Betty (Bassham) Holloway. He was employed as a House Parent with the I.O.O.F. Children's Home for a number of years. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rick Lamb officiating. Interment will follow in the Younger cemetery. Billy Dean Simpson Sr., 61, of Dawson passed away Monday, May 22, 2006, in Dallas.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Steve Schulte officiating. Interment will follow at Dresden Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Dean Simpson, Scott Hough, Jody Pitts, Joseph Caldwell, Lance Northland and Michael Proulx.

Mr. Simpson was born May 18, 1945, in Corsicana to Amos W. Simpson and Thynoha Chapman Simpson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Alma Chapman.

Survivors include his love and best friend, Judy Nesmith of Dawson; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Renee Simpson of Dawson, Jody and Deborah Pitts of Fayetteville, Ark., David and Dana Nesmith of Pasadena and Blaine and Regina Nesmith of Waxahachie; daughters and son-in-law, Denise and Scott Hough of Garland and Nicki Willis of Louisville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
