Lenna Agnes (Ballew) Gill
Jun 5, 1913 - Dec 4, 2004
Lenna Agnes Gill,
91, a retired first-grade schoolteacher, entered God's kingdom peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Crosier Pearson Mayfield Funeral Home in Burleson. Burial: 2 p.m. Wednesday in Emmett Cemetery in Emmett. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday at the funeral home.
Agnes was born June 5, 1913, to Frank and Mary Ballew. She grew up with four other siblings in Frost. In 1938 she and Ervie Ballew were united in marriage.
They adopted a son, Charles Gill, and reared him with insurmountable affection. Sadly, Ervie's untimely death in 1956 left Agnes a mourning widow and single
mother.
Despite the trials that faced her in the years ahead, Agnes rose above the struggles and continued on in life with grace, determination and inspiration.
Never remarrying, it was her drive and faith in God that helped her mold her son into a respected pillar of the community and loving father to his children.
Agnes bestowed an unconditional, Christ-like love for people, especially children. It was that love that inspired her to teach. She earned her master's
degree from TCU. She shared her passion for teaching and music with hundreds of children in over 40 years of service at Riverside Elementary in Fort Worth. As
years passed and her former students grew into adults, Agnes still managed to write and call them, encouraging them to love life and honor God.
Until the church closed, Agnes was a devout member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, where she was the pianist for over 50 years. Agnes was a devoted member
of the Eastern Star, Everman Chapter 624, Forest Hill Senior Citizens Center and Sublett Road Baptist Church. Whether it was in a delightful breakfast, game of
dominoes, or afternoon of music and piano, Agnes enjoyed the time spent with her dear friends.
While Agnes was proud of many things in life, she took most pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known as "Memaw" to her family, she
always had a camera on hand, attempting so feverishly to capture pictures of them so she could share with friends a piece of her life that she adored so
much.
She led life by example and instilled in each of them the need to unconditionally love others as Christ loves us. Agnes would want nothing more
than for her friends and family to rise above the pain of this loss and tackle each new day with determination-- determination to love life again, love one
another and love God.
Survivors: Son, Charles Gill; sister, Beulah Stevens; grandchildren, Chris Gill and his wife, Amy, Brian Gill, Michelle Gill and Stacy Gill; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Brandon; and a host of other loving family
members and friends.
