Jack Ray McGraw
Nov 5, 1932 - Oct 24, 2004
Jack R. McGraw's life of bringing glory to God ended on October 24, 2004. Jack is finally home with the Lord after an 8-month battle with cancer. Jack was born
November 5, 1932, five miles north of Blooming Grove, Texas to Ernest (Jug) and Clara McGraw. He was the second of four sons and two daughters. Being raised by
tenant cotton farmers in Navarro County taught him life lessons he never forgot. Jack Graduated from Blooming Grove High School in
1950 and attended Navarro Jr. College in Corsicana on a football scholarship.
In 1951 he met the love of his life, Wanda Gunter. They were married on January 22, 1953. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in June of 1954 and served in
Virginia Beach, Virginia for 2 years in a Nike Guided Missile Battalion.
After serving in the Army, he enrolled in the University of Texas at Austin in
1956 and graduated with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering in 1959. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.
His first job was with Dowell in Artesia, New Mexico. He later joined John Trigg Oil and lived for four years in camp housing at Maljamar, New Mexico. He went to
work for Coastal States Gas Producing Company in Abilene in 1964 and was with them for 10 years. He transferred with Coastal States to Midland in 1966. From
1974 to 1981 he worked for several independent producers, H. L. Brown, Jr. and C.F. Lawrence and Associates.
In April 1981 Jack with his friend and Christian "Brother" Dale A. Brown founded
Brothers Production Company. The McGraw and Brown families are still closely associated in business after 23 years. With Jack's leadership and God's blessing
the company grew enough that he was able to employ each of his four sons. Two are petroleum engineers, one a geologist, and the other an accountant. Jack and
his sons were blessed by God to be able to work together for 21 years.
Jack was an avid sportsman raising his sons in Midland. They enjoyed many years
of slow pitch softball together, traveling the country for softball tournaments. He was such a presence in Midland softball that he was inducted into the Midland Softball Association Hall of Fame.
All of that would be a rich and full life, but it doesn't even begin to describe what was really important to Jack. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His wife Wanda survives him. He vowed to love, honor and cherish
her in 1953 and kept his word until death parted them.
He was preceded in death by his two-year old son Lee and by his parents and an
older brother Bobbie Harold. He is survived by 4 sons--Tim and his wife Terri, Scott and his wife Connie, Kyle and his wife DeAnn, and Travis and his wife
Donna, all of Midland. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Robyn, Cliff, Alan, Michael, Kenneth, Molly, Daniel, Mark, Nathan, Laura and Kenzi McGraw all
of Midland. Two sisters, Kathryn Peters and Jane Smith and two brothers Billy Wayne and Jerry Mack McGraw all of Blooming Grove, Texas as well as numerous
nieces and nephews and their children.
Of all that stirred Jack's heart nothing was more important to him than the
Kingdom of God. He will be missed by thousands of believers and friends who were blessed by his leadership as an elder at the Golf Course Road Church of Christ.
He became an elder in 1974 and served the body of Christ faithfully for 29 years.
Jack's vision didn't stop with his church. He started serving on the Midland Christian School Board of Directors in 1985 and as chairman led the school
through its $5,000,000 campus expansion. With his help the enrollment grew from 600 to 1150 students. In 1986 he was asked to serve on the Engineering Council
at Oklahoma Christian University and served on the full board from 1989 to 2003.
Because of his Christian leadership he was awarded an honorary doctorate from
Oklahoma Christian in 2004. In 1992 he was named Outstanding Ex-student by Blooming Grove High School and in 1996 he was named Alumnus of the Year by
Navarro Jr. College.
From a very early age Jack tried to please God and do His will. In his private
life, public life, professional life and church life, Jack always put God first. Jack loved Jesus and because of that generously supported Christian education,
helped put missionary children through college, recruited students for Oklahoma Christian University and supported mission efforts around the world.
There is so much more that could be said to honor Jack, but we know that the greatest honor is reserved for when the Lord Jesus says, "Well done good and faithful servant."
The memorial service has been scheduled Wednesday, October 27 at 3:00 pm at the Golf Course Road Church of Christ. The family will receive friends at Nalley,
Pickle and Welch Funeral Home in Midland from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26. Memorials should be directed to Midland Christian School 2001 Culver Drive,

Dr. Dale H. Wynn
Dec 6, 1935 - Nov 11, 2004
Dale H. Wynn, a quiet, unassuming man, who lived his faith more loudly than most
speak theirs, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Thursday,
Nov. 11, 2004. The legacy of faith and passion for His Lord has been left in the
loving hands of his wife Barbara, children Cindy and Eric Morrison, Cathy and
Terry Hutton, Randy and Linda Wynn, Chris and Hollie Wynn, and grandchildren,
Russell and Matthew Morrison, Brooke and Luke Hutton, Zachary and Noah Wynn, and
Dale W. Wynn.
Dale Houston Wynn was born in Enid, Okla., on Dec. 6, 1935. He married the love
of his life, Barbara Anna Pedersen in Dallas on Dec. 27, 1955. After graduating
from Amarillo High School, he attended four years at Texas Tech and completed
his graduate studies in 1962 at Pacific University College of Optometry, Forest
Grove, Ore. After practicing optometry from 1962 to 1964 in Herford, Texas, and
from 1964 to 1983 in Ruidoso, N.M., he and his wife, Barbara, moved to Corsicana
where they have served the community for 21 years at Texas State Optical. Dale's
professional integrity and skill were only enhanced the more by his ready smile,
uplifting spirit, and generous heart as he served his patients and lived his
faith humbly.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, skiing, camping and just about anything in
God's great outdoors. His children and grandchildren alike share many wonderful
memories, as he involved each of them in a celebration of God's creation, taking
them fishing and hunting ... just spending time with them in the outdoors.
The cornerstone on which his life was built was his relationship with the Lord
Jesus Christ. His laughter and his love were contagious. His life was an
expression of his faith, which was reflected, as he faithfully ministered in his
community and church, Grace Community. There is not room to mention all the
things he did for others in service of his Lord, but one particular love he has
carried for over 40 years is involvement with the Lions Club.
He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Theron Wayne Hooper
Nov 6, 1919 - Jul 14, 2004
After saving Ford dealerships,
businessman opened his own
08:26 PM CDT on Saturday, July 17, 2004
By JOE SIMNACHER / The Dallas Morning News
After a long career of rescuing automobile dealerships for Ford Motor Co.,
Theron "T.W." Hooper came home to Texas in 1971 to open a dealership of his own.
He owned Red Bird Ford in Duncanville for more than a decade.
Mr. Hooper, 84, died in his sleep of congestive heart failure Wednesday at a
Corsicana nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, 203 S. Main St. in
Duncanville. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at David Clayton & Sons
Funeral Home, 200 W. Center St. in Duncanville. Burial will take place at noon
Monday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
"He was very tenacious and worked for a long time proving himself," said Mr.
Hooper's daughter, Terri Allen of Barry, Texas. "He was very smart but a humble
man."
Born in Yarnaby, Okla., near Durant, Mr. Hooper grew up in Denison, Texas, where
he graduated from high school in 1937.
He learned accounting by taking correspondence courses before joining the Army,
his daughter said.
During World War II, he initially served with the Army Signal Corps as a
cryptographer, decoding messages. He later taught others the skill.
After the war, Mr. Hooper became a turnaround specialist for Ford, stabilizing
ailing dealerships' finances so they could be sold.
"When they'd sell it, his job was over," his daughter said.
In 1971, Mr. Hooper learned that Ford wanted to open a dealership in
Duncanville. He applied and was awarded the dealership, his daughter said.
"He just loved Duncanville," his daughter said. "He helped build Duncanville
up."
Mr. Hooper sold the dealership in 1982. It is now Duncanville Ford.
He had been chairman of the Dallas County Ford Dealers Association and a
director of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association.
"He was very down-to-earth. He loved to have fun," Mrs. Allen said. "He would
always sing and tell stories. He was quite a character."
In addition to Mrs. Allen, Mr. Hooper is survived by his wife, Maxine Hooper of
Corsicana; two sons, Bob Ball of Duncanville and Max Hooper of Little Rock, Ark.; another daughter, Janice McMenamy of Garland; 12 grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.

Bruce Edward Jeffers:
Apr 15, 1912 - Jul 12, 2004
Highland
Park teacher, coach 08:52 PM CDT on Friday, July 16, 2004
By JOE SIMNACHER / The Dallas Morning News
Bruce Edward Jeffers, with future Pro Football Hall of Famers Doak Walker and Bobby Layne in the lineups, coached Highland Park High to two state basketball
championship tournaments.
But it was Mr. Jeffers' long career in the classroom as a math teacher that endeared him to students.
Mr. Jeffers, 92, died Monday of complications of Alzheimer's disease and diabetes at Walnut Place in Dallas.
Services were Thursday in Dallas. He was buried in
Providence Cemetery south of Corsicana.
In 1943, Mr. Jeffers was hired as a math teacher and as an interim basketball coach. He replaced Ralph Binnion, who left to serve in the Navy during World War
II.
Mr. Jeffers' 1943 team finished third, and the 1944 team lost the championship to Goose Creek of Baytown.
Sixty years later, his students still remembered their math teacher, said his daughter, Mary Jeffers Barber of Rowlett.
"His relationship with the students was wonderful," she said.
Many of Mr. Jeffers' former students – some from the 1940s – visited with the
family at the funeral home this week.
"Several said, 'Without your dad, I would have never made it,' " Mrs. Barber said.
Mr. Jeffers was born in Corsicana and was reared by an aunt and uncle. His mother never recovered from his birth and died when he was 6 months old. His
father died of pneumonia about 2 ½ years later.

Mary Elizabeth (Beasley) Sutherland
Apr 7, 1843 - Feb 13, 1926
Feb. 15, 1926
Funeral Services for Pioneer Resident
Mrs. Mary Sutherland, age 82 years, 10 months and 18 days, died at the residence of her grand-daughter, Mrs. C. H. Lyons, 520 West Second, Saturday night at
10:00 o'clock. Services were held at the Petty's Chapel church with interment in the Petty's Chapel cemetery.
Mrs. Sutherland had been a resident of Navarro county for approximately a half century. Mrs. Sutherland and her late husband John Sutherland who died in 1891
came to Texas from Tennessee in 1869 and later moved to Arkansas where they resided until 1878 when they moved to Navarro County. The deceased was born April 2, 1843 in Tennessee. Surviving are two sons - Will, Iowa Park and John,
Houston, one daughter Mrs. Mattie Wooster, El Paso. A number of Grandchildren and two nephews C. B. Sutherland and Arthur Sutherland of Corsicana.
A prominent Corsicana business man who had known Mrs. Sutherland for many years had the following to say regarding this good woman.
"Mrs. Sutherland was not only a Texas pioneer, but a pioneer of the Christian faith in the great Southwest. She was a neighbor to all, for and near, with a
hospitality that rang clear and sweet from her heart that whom soever will may come. She was ever ready with open doors to entertain and the only formally was that it should be to the honor of God and to the glory of his holy name.
Through but a gleaner in His earthly garden, He will crown her as an angel in
that Heavenly home Notes:
- My g-grandfather, John Sutherland, came to the county in 1869 with
his wife Mary Beasley Sutherland from Tennessee. He died there in 1891 and
she died in 1926.

Obituary of Mary E. Sutherland.
Sister Sutherland was born April 7, 1843, in Roberson county Tenn., died Feb. 13, 1926 , at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. C. H. Lyon after a long
illness. She was married to John Sutherland Feb. 12, 1861. To this union was born nine children, six of whom are deceased. The three that survive her are:
Mrs. Hays Wooster, El Paso; Will Sutherland, Wichita Falls, and John Sutherland, Houston. Her husband died in 1891 and for 35 years she was a widow and God alone
knows her trials and troubles during those many years, as she was not a woman who burdened her friends by complaining but was patient and kind and often said
that her Savior helped her bear her burdens and I'm sure He did, for we are told that more than 64 years ago she was born from above. She realized what Christ
was trying to teach Nicodemus in the third chapter of the Gospel by John, that the most important thing for anyone to know is how to be saved and although that
great Jewish ruler marveled, Jesus said, “You must be born again.” After our friend had given herself to Jesus she served her Lord and Master by living an
upright Christian life; she was not only a Texas pioneer, but a pioneer of the Christian faith and we loved her for her works' sake. She was a gleaner in the
earthly garden of her Lord, and He will reward her in Heaven above for her many kind deeds for she was a friend and neighbor to all, as I stood by and watched
her Bible tenderly placed in her casket (as requested) I lifted my heart to God and prayed that we who are left behind would love and study God's word more.
Truly a faithful mother of Israel has passed away.
Sister Sutherland was a member of the Missionary Baptist church at Post Oak, Texas, at the time of her death, but for a number of years she was a member of
Petty's Chapel church; was a charter member of that church when it was first organized years ago. Her pastor, Rev. J. L. Moore of Kaufman, conducted her
funeral, paying a sweet tribute to a Christian mother. Several beautiful songs were sung by Mrs. Dora Rutherford and Messrs. Harold Blankenship, T. H. Bowden
and L. M. Williams. Her body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Petty's Chapel to await the final resurrection. A large crowd of relatives and friends were
present and placed many beautiful flowers on her grave as a token of their love for her. As a church we feel we have lost a worthy member and to her children
and other relatives we extend our tenderest sympathy.
Dear children, will you not trust and serve God, for she can never come back to you, but thanks be to God, you, can meet her in Heaven if you will only trust
your mother's God. Remember that the ways of the world may tempt you with their glitter and glint of gold and its promises may allure you as you watch its
mirage unfold false prophets, the thieves of Satan like vampires entice their prey, but stick to your mother's God. Her way is the safest way.
The palace of sin and pleasure
May appeal to your heart's desire,
For its music is strangely thrilling
Like the strains of a golden lyre,
But stop! Ere you cross the threshold
Look back to your childhood days'
And stick to your Mother's God,
Her way is the safest way.
Her breast was your first warm pillow,
When she taught you to lisp His name,
Don't dishonor that blessed memory.
With the teachings of modern shame.
Keep on in the dear old pathway,
Let others do as they may,
But stick to your Mother's God,
Her way is the safest way.
Written by Mrs. D. E. Pike and adopted by Post Oak church, April 3, 1926.
REV. J. L. MORE, Pastor.
