Infant drowns here Sunday

An 11-month-old boy, Christopher R. Scoggins, was ruled to have died from accidental drowning in a commode in its parents home at The Villa Apartments Sunday afternoon in an inquest conducted by Justice of the Peace W. H. Tipton at Memorial Hospital emergency room.

Judge Tipton and investigating Officer Terry Teetz said the child's mother, Mrs. Glen (Barbara) Scoggins, Apt. 74, said the baby wandered away from her sight while she was changing clothes, and moments later she discovered the child with its head submerged in a bathroom commode.

Tipton said “I ruled it accidentally drowning as the baby apparently fell into the commode.

According to Officer Teetz's report, Mrs. Scoggins said she carried the unconscious infant and laid it on the living room floor until an ambulance could arrive. The infant was pronounced dead on arrival at the emergency room by a doctor at 5:15 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Corley Funeral Home with burial to be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Blooming Grove.

Josephine Williams Pritchett McNutt passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 6:19 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Zale Lipshy Hospital in Dallas.

She showed tremendous faith, courage, and strength since being diagnosed with brain cancer on Aug. 31, 2010. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she will be greatly missed by those whose life she touched. She lived a life in service to God as exemplified by 35 plus years of volunteer work with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Through her work with C.E.F. she shared the gospel of salvation by grace (faith alone in Christ alone) to countless numbers of children. Her commitment to the study of the Bible and daily prayer were an example to all.

She was born March 29, 1931, in Nashville, Tenn. to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Worley Pritchett. A graduate of Ward Belmont and Vanderbilt University she married Lee William “Bill” McNutt Jr. on Jan. 23, 1954, in Nashville, Tenn. In 1958 they moved to Corsicana, her husband's hometown, as new owners of Collin Street Bakery, which is home of the “Original DeLuxe Fruitcake.”

She was a member of Believer's Bible Church of Corsicana, Daughter's of the American Revolution, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, Corsicana Country Club, and Garden of the God's Club. She enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends and felt blessed at the life she led. She loved dividing her time between her homes in Corsicana and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Worley Pritchett and Velma Williams Pritchett; her beloved husband of 51 years, Bill McNutt Jr.; sisters, Catherine Worley Pritchett and Virginia Pritchett Bivens; and brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas B. Alexander.

Survivors include her four children, Lee William “Bill” McNutt III and his wife Susanna Rabel McNutt, Katherine Anne McNutt, Melanie Jeanne McNutt of Dallas, and Robert “Bob” Pritchett McNutt and his wife Amber of Corsicana; cherished grandchildren, Lee William “Will” McNutt IV, Thomas Max Nygaard McNutt, Rabel Josephine Mae McNutt, Sloan Carson McNutt, and Alyssa, Nicole and Matthew Stills; sister, Elise Pritchett Alexander of Columbia, Mo.; she is also survived by numerous nieces and cousins.

The family wishes to thank all who have shown kindness and compassion to Josephine and her family during this difficult time. The prayers of the body of Christ have given us great comfort throughout her illness. We would especially like to thank her Pastor, Steve Elkins of Believer's Bible Church; caregivers and friends, Robert Polk, Anabella Maldonado, Stella Williams, Sara Nelson, Sid Polk, Raewyn Gain, Minda Mittlemaier, Pearline Jones, Ella Humphrey and Jacqueline Williams; her medical team at University of Texas Southwestern Dallas, Dr. Bruce Mickey, Dr. Elizabeth Maher, Dr. Robert D. Timmerman, Dr. Josephine Bonell of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Dr. Charles Biltz of Corsicana, and Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at First Baptist Church, located at 510 W. Collin St., Corsicana. Graveside services will follow Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Navarro County, 117 Mall Dr., Corsicana, Texas 75110; or Believer's Bible Church, 2400 Bowie Drive, Corsicana, Texas 75110; or to the charity of your choice.
