IN MEMORY OF MRS. C. R. COXSEY
I desire, in my feeble way, to pay tribute to the memory of a very
dear friend and neighbor of mine, Mrs. C. R. Coxsey, who departed
this life February 22, 1938, at the Methodist Memorial Hospital in
Houston, Texas.
Mrs. Coxsey and I have been intimately associated ever since she and
her family moved into our midst thirteen years ago. She possessed a
quiet, gentle, sweet and retiring personality and a character beyond
reproach. As a Christian she went about doing good at every
opportunity. Her kind deeds and gentle words, so touchingly spoken,
have eased the heartaches of many as well as to have lifted their
crushed hopes back into the light of another day. As a mother, Mrs.
Coxsey stood out as one nearing the ideal. The ambitions, high
ideals, and the desire to be of service to humanity; of her children
are living examples of the ponderings of Mrs. Coxsey's heart. As a
wife she fulfilled her every duty. She and her husband seemed to
have been one of those perfectly mated couples whose lives blended
in splended harmony.
So to the family, relatives and friends of this beautiful and
lovable personality and soul I would say as did James Whitcomb Riley
in his poem:
AWAY
I can not say, and I will not say
That she is dead. - She is just away !
With a cherry smile, and a wave of the hand,
She has wandered into an unknown land.
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be, since she lingers there.
And you - O you, who the wildest yearn
For the old-time step and the glad return ----
THink of her still as the same, I say:
She is not dead - she is just away!
Mrs. Coxsey was 48 years of age. She united with the
Methodist church at the age of elven years at Emmett, Texas.
Taught school at Jones Ranch, Navarro county, several years. She and
her husband had been married 25 years. She was laid to rest in
the family cemetery at Emmett Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence R. Coxsey, and three
children, Miss Essle Gene, a graduate nurse employed at the new
Jefferson Davis Hospital, Houston; Katherine, doing second year work
in nursing at the Jefferson Davis Hospital, and Raymond, a senior in
Center high school. Brothers and sisters surviving are: G. A> J. R.,
and I. G. Bills, all of Loving, Tex.; Mrs. G. I. Ledford, Hubbard
City, Tex.; Mrs. W. P. Moore, Emmett, Tex.; Mrs. Edd Moore and Mrs.
I. L. Moore, Pilot Point. Tex. - A Friend
