IN MEMORY
When my mail came today, I could hardly wait to read the letter on
which I noticed Blooming Grove, Texas,--but as I glanced down the
first page, tears dimmed my eyes, for I saw it was bringing me the
sad news, that my beloved uncle, Thomas Ashley Garrett had on July
26, at 5 a.m. departed this life.
He was 75 years, one month and 20 days old. He was born and reared
near Gallatin, Tenn. He married Miss Addie May Harris, who preceded
him to the grave 29 years ago. To this union was born one son and
four daughters, all living.
He and his wife settled in Navarro county, Texas, where through his
honest upright, straightforward dealings with his fellow man, he
became a very prosperous farmer, however he was never too busy with
financial affairs to attend to his Christian duties; having
confessed his faith in Christ early in life, he was united with the
Church of Christ growing stronger in the faith until the end.
Noted for his kind humble disposition, self sacrifice in serving
others, his place cannot be filled.
Would say to the bereaved children, grandchildren, brother, sister,
a host of relatives and friends grieve not, lets strive harder to
more closely follow the good example of his noble Christian life,
and some day we shall meet “dear daddy” and “Uncle Tom,” as he was
affectionately called by us all.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. E. Walker of Corsicana,
with burial in the Dresden cemetery.
A niece who lived him,
MAUDE WRIGHT WATKINS.
Three is only a mist between us,
Dead Daddy, so precious and true
Only a mist before sunrise
That hides you away from view.
Oft as we ponder at twilight,
O’er the sorrows and joys we did share,
We thank God for your sweet memory
Dear Daddy as we silently offer a prayer.
Only a mist between us, dear daddy,
Some morning the angels will come,
And there in a bright land of beauty
We will be with our darling daddy at home.
Home, beautiful home
No longer in sadness to roam,
But safe in the kingdom of glory
We will be with our loved one, at home.
Only a mist between us dear daddy,
Not many long years will it stay
“Tis growing more fleecy and golden
As early life fades fast away.
And when we are thinking so sadly
Of days all so joyous and free
It is then we are nearest our darling daddy,
And it brings sweet comfort to us.
Ones Who Loved Him,
His Children and Grandchildren, His daughter, Nellie.

A Visit to Cryer Creek Grange No. 5. Patrons of Husbandry
The following is taken, from the Corsicana Observer of July 17,
1875, and is reproduced at the request of B. B. Fullwood, the Mrs.
Brown mentioned in the article being the mother of Mr. Fullwood's
wife.
The article follows On Friday the 2nd, I received a note from From
Bro. Thos. B. Stokes, Worthy Master of Cryer Creek Grange informing
me of the death of Sister Amanda M. Brown, consort of Brother R. T.
Brown, with request to perform the burial ceremonies.
Early next morning I wended my way sorrowfully to their Grange
meditating upon the sad and lonely condition of Brother Brown. On
arriving at the Grange Hall I found a great many members of the
order present, and all seemed to feel the solemnity of the occasion.
The Grange was called to order by their W. M., who briefly stated
the object
of the meeting: "To pay a last , tribute of respect to Sister Amanda
Brown."
After the members had properly clothed themselves, a. procession was
formed and marched to "the house of the deceased. Here we were
joined with the sisters of the order, the family and the relatives
of our departed sister. The procession was here reformed, with
hearse and pall bearers in front , family and relatives in
carriages, sisters of the order four abreast, brothers of the order
by fours, neighbors and those not members of the order in the rear.
The
procession thus formed and extended nearly a quarter of a mile
marched to Cryer Creek cemetery, near Union Chapel. On arriving at
the cemetery the members surrounded the grave, forming two circles,
the sisters the inside and the brothers the outside circle,
enclosing the family and relatives of our dear sister. She was then
consigned to the grave. During the performance of the beautiful
burial ceremonies of our order many wept, for Sister Brown was
beloved by all who knew her. At the foot of the grave sat her almost
broken hearted husband, with her four motherless children, the
youngest only 12 days old. Near by was her aged father and mother,
who very-soon will follow her to the tomb, weeping aloud for their
youngest daughter, their hearts were too full to contain their
sorrowful feelings—five brothers and one sister with their families
comprised the sorrowful group.
Sister Brown was the youngest daughter of Wm. W. and Martha. S.
Stokes, was born in Lauderdale county, Miss., the 15th day of April,
1848, was married to Bro. R.T. Brown, 19th of July 1865, came to
Texas with her husband, December 1869, and settled on Chambers
Creek, near her father and brothers. Her freed spirit took its
flight on Friday, the 2nd inst., at 4 o'clock a. m., on unfeathered
wing, rising higher than the "sphery chime," approaching.
"The living throne, the sapphire blaze, Where angels tremble while
they gaze."
She was a zealous member of the Baptist church, charitable and kind
to all . She was also a member of the Cryer Creek Grange No. 5, P.
of H. and her presence both in the Church and Grange will be sadly
missed. But God in His wisdom has called our sister home, and let us
hope that our loss is her eternal gain.
We deeply sympathize with her beloved husband and children, her aged
father and mother, and her bereaved relatives in the loss of one,
always so kind and affectionate, ever ready to assist the afflicted
and needy. May her freed spirit, be borne on light angel's wing, to
the paradise above where Jesus forever reigns, forever presides;
there to await the
coming of loved ones she left behind —Yes dear friends.
Fairest of earthly daughters, she Among the angelic hosts doth fly:
Ten thousand sains around her be, And all together mount the sky;
Lovely their forms; their joyous tongues Go thrilling up to Heaven's
gate Where cherub-shouts and seraph songs Our ransomed sister's
spirit wait: Silently, dear sisters, turn away Patiently, brothers,
yield to death
the sway; Hopefully leave her in the tomb Until her Lord shall come.

Bobby Jo
(George) Dyar
Apr 18, 1925 - Dec 22, 2010
Bobby
Jo George Dyar, 85, died on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at The
Laurels in Charlottesville, Va., of complications from a
recent fall. Her daughter Martha Jane Lacasse and husband
Rich Lacasse, her primary caretakers for the past year, were
with her at her bedside as she passed away.
Bobby was born on April 18, 1925, in Blooming Grove, to the
late Mattie Sue Harris and Carey Derward George, of
Corsicana.
She was also preceded in death by her devoted husband of 59
years, retired Capt. of the Navy Joseph Eugene Dyar of
Carnesville, Ga.; son, James Legrand Dyar of Tempe, Ariz.;
she is also preceeded in death by a much loved younger
sister, Martha Sue Beard of Waco.
After graduating from Corsicana High School, Bobby attended
Texas State College for Women with her sister Carolyn Jane
Dunn Taylor, also of Corsicana. In 1946 she married the
young Naval officer Joseph and began her life as a “gypsy”
moving with him every few years to new locations, among them
Florida, California, Hawaii, and Rhode Island. Together they
also raised three children and made many new friends along
the way. When Joe retired from the Navy in 1969, they
settled in Falls Church, Va., and spent the next 34 years
keeping in touch with their many friends and their growing
family. They traveled in North America and Europe with
sister Jane and her husband John Taylor, and on “Corsicana”
tours to Great Britain with the Stroubes. Bobby also enjoyed
attending reunions of a Corsicana-based group of friends,
who nick-named themselves the “Vestal Virgins.” Bobby and
Joe even traveled to Australia, by way of Fiji, Tahiti, and
New Zealand, to visit their daughter Jane, her husband Rich
and their three young children, who were living there at the
time. As the number of grandchildren grew, every summer
Bobby and Joe hosted the family in ever larger beach homes
along the southeast coast, for some of the most cherished
times of their lives. In 2003 the Dyars moved to
Charlottesville to be near their children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her sister, Carolyn Jane Dunn Taylor of
Corsicana; daughters, Sue Ellis Dyar and Martha Jane Lacasse
and her husband Richard, all of Charlottesville; six
grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Laura Nebelung
and husband Trent, and baby Clementine, of Phoenix, Ariz.,
Kathleen Knight and husband James of Columbus, OH; Caroline
Dyar of Carrboro, NC; Michael Lacasse and wife Emily, and
sons, Joshua, Matthew, Benjamin, and baby Evalyne of
Flagstaff, Ariz.; Andrew Lacasse and wife Jillian of
Buckeye, W.Va.; and Daniel Lacasse of McLean, Va.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan.
17, 2011, at Corley Funeral Home, located in Corsicana.
Interment will be at the Harris-George family plot, in
Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery located in Retreat.

Virginia Ann
“Beanie” (Ingenthron) McElroy
Feb 14, 1932 - Jan 10, 2011
Virginia Ann “Beanie” McElroy, age 78, died on Jan. 10, 2011,
at Navarro Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family after a
long fight with emphysema.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1932, to Radford and Mabel Ingenthron in
Davenport, Okla.
All Beanie ever really wanted to be was a wife and mother — and what
a tremendous success she was! She and Bob had four beautiful
children, Robbi, Pete, Radona, and Sam. They were her greatest joy,
multiplied by the addition of their spouses, Austin, Terry, Keith,
and Valerie. She embraced them as her own and was thrilled to become
a grandmother 11 times, welcoming Kristi, Wesley, Jesse, Byron, Kodi,
Nathan, Daniel, Sarah, Tyler, Ryan, and Madison. Two years ago she
was delighted at becoming the great grandmother of Brooklyn and so
enjoyed watching Robbi become a Grandmother. One of Beanie's
favorite sayings was “love is the only thing that multiplies as it
is divided,” and that was certainly the case with each addition to
her family.
In 1974, after her children were older, she entered the real estate
world, becoming an associate and partner with Peggy Watts and to
this day, Beanie and Peggy were close and dear friends. Beanie had a
successful career because, as always, she put the best interest of
others above her own. She retired from the real estate business in
1989 to, not surprisingly, spend more time with her greatest
passion, her growing family. Although she was restricted by her own
health issues, she was able and willing to help others with theirs.
Beanie was a long time member of First Christian Church in
Corsicana, and taught Sunday school classes for many years. She was
always eager to see the kids on Sunday and they were excited to be
in her presence. She was a gracious lady, filled with compassion,
love, and laughter that she easily shared with others.
Her favorite charities were St. Judes Children's Hospital, Cook
Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, and Angelman Syndrome Foundation.
Locally she was a strong supporter of the Salvation Army and the
Food Pantry.
In lieu of flowers, she would encourage your gifts to any of those
organizations or, of course, to any charity that you might choose.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at
Corley Funeral Home with Robert Bruce McElroy officiating.
Arrangements by Corley Funeral Home, Corsicana.
