IN MEMORIAM
On the fourth day of September, the death angel visited the home
of T. M. Collins and took his faithful and loving wife,
Meredith. She had been in ill health for the past four years,
but when the end came she was only bed fast a day.
Oh, it was so hard to give this mother and wife up. She bore her
suffering so patiently. She has gone where there is no more
sickness and death.
She was loved by all who knew her. She was a pioneer of Navarro
county, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Farmer, who
were well known in Navarro county. She died at the age of 60.
Oh, Grandmother, we miss you. Your chair is vacant now and your
dear voice we all loved to hear has ceased to sound in your
home. But in heaven, God has a crown for you. Grandmother cannot
come back to us but we can go to her, if we will trust the Lord
as she did.
She leaves behind her a husband and seven children; J. H. Howard
of Waco, W. J. Howard of Purdon, Jake and Robert Collins of
Corsicana, James A. Collins of Waco, Mrs. J. R. Williams of
Corsicana, and S. D. Dillard of Dallas, and two brothers and one
sister, Harvey Farmer, I. H. Farmer and Mrs. John Harris, all of
Corsicana, besides her other relatives and a host of friends to
mourn her loss.
Grandmother was laid to rest in the Zion's Rest cemetery to
awake on that great day when we can meet that sweet face again.
And what a sweet meeting that will be.
How cheering is the Christian's hope
While toiling here below it buoys us up
While passing through this wilderness of woe.
Yet we come in Christian duty,
Down beneath the wave to go;
Oh, the bliss, the heavenly beauty.
Christ, the Lord was hurried so.
She was laid to rest at Zion's Rest at 5 o’clock. The funeral
service was conducted by Rev. Lawrence Shivers of Wortham. A
large procession followed the remains to her last resting place.
The new grave was covered by many beautiful flowers.
Written by her granddaughter,
VELMA HOWARD.
