Myrtle Mae (Hunt) Hamilton
Jul 15, 1893 - Oct 13, 1925
In Memory.
Written in memory of Mrs. Myrtle (Hunt) Hamilton.
She was born in 1893 and died October 13, 1925, at the home of Mr.
Ernest Melton. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hunt. She
was married to Mr. W. B. Hamilton December 20, 1909. She professed
faith in Christ at the age of 10 years and united with the
Missionary Baptist church at Bethany and several years later she
moved her membership to the Baptist church at Port Arthur and there
she lived a consistent Christian life until her death.
She leaves to mourn her departure a husband, W. B. Hamilton; two
brothers, W. O. Hunt of Blooming Grove and Johnnie Hunt of Fort
Worth, and two sisters, Mrs. Dona Milton of Blooming Grove and Mrs.
Tennie Covington of Jester, and many other relatives and a host of
sorrowing friends. And dear relatives, we can not understand why our
loved ones are taken so suddenly from us, for our ways are not God’s
ways, and His will must be done and the Bible says: All things work
together for good to those who love the Lord. And remember known
things belong to men and unknown things to God and someday we’ll
understand; so let each of us as friends and relatives say God’s
will be done. We know that it is hard but just submit to His will is
all we can do and is the right thing for us to do; and if each of
you will do that and lean on the strong arm of your Heavenly Father
He will hold you up, for he says, My grace is sufficient and he will
give you sustaining grace in this sad and trying time. We hope if
any of your are still living in sin that this will be the time in
your life that you will stop and ask yourself, Where am I going to
spend Eternity? And if your loved ones are waiting on the other
shore for you, are you going there to be an unbroken family around
the throne of God. Our bodies go back to dust but our spirit’s go
back to the God who gave them. Then look far beyond the silent tomb
to a happy reunion in the sweet bye and bye for—
There’s one who can comfort
when all else fails;
Who’s able to save when the foe assail;
Once she traveled the way we go,
Felt the pangs of deceit and woe,
Who more perfectly than can know,
I have Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Weep not, dear loved ones, for
from earth she has fled,
For we know that we shall meet her
If the Bible we have read.
O, slumber sweetly, darling one, in Jesus be thy rest,
For there in heaven you will be,
and Jesus knoweth best,
There may we meet our loving sister,
There where suffering is no more.
Where all is love and peace and joy
Beyond the crystal shore.
When we leave this world of sorrow
When we leave this world of care,
We shall find our missing loved one.
In our Father’s mansion fair.
All is dark within our dwelling,
Lonely are our hearts today,
For the one loved so dearly
Has Forever passed away.
The golden gates were open wide,
A gentle voice said, come,
The angels from the other side
Welcomed our loved one home.
A precious one from them is gone,
Her sweet voice they love so well is still,
A place is vacant in that home
Which never can be filled.
Weep not, dear loved ones
For we know she’s gone to rest.
To be at home with Jesus,
With one who loved her best.
Funeral services were conducted by Bro. Carroway of Blooming Grove
and her body was laid to rest in the Frost Cemetery to await the
resurrection. There were many beautiful floral offerings.

2012 with his family at his side.
Born July 17, 1956 at Laredo Air Force Base, he arrived in Corsicana
as a happy 1-year-old in 1957 where he spent his formative years,
attending James L. Collins Catholic School and graduating from
Corsicana High School in 1974. It was during his maturing years that
he developed a keen interest in cooking and foods under the
influence of a close family friend, Dr. A.L. Grizzaffi.
He attended Texas Tech University where he was active in campus
affairs, becoming the president of the student body his senior year
and was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. Following graduation with his
business degree he was awarded a Rotary Graduate Fellowship and
subsequently received his MBA in finance from the Australian
Graduate School of Management of the University of New South Wales
in Sydney, a school considered by the Pacific rim nations to be on a
par with Harvard.
Upon his return he spent his professional career in finance and
banking, primarily in California, where he had a long career with
Wells Fargo in San Francisco and San Diego.
He was wed to Hollye Hammond of Graham, Texas, on April 20, 1991,
continuing his career with Wells Fargo while Hollye pursued her
career as a flight attendant with American Airlines. The love of
food and dining always tugged at them, and they opted to make a
change in their plans which led them to own and operate what was
voted the best seafood restaurant in north San Diego County. He
continued to hone and expand his knowledge of food, wines, and
coffees, becoming skilled in each.
But it was his love of banking and people that led him back to his
beginnings and back to Corsicana where he took a position with
Community National Bank and Trust. In that setting he would soon be
once again deeply involved in the worthwhile affairs of his
hometown. He has been active in Rotary International, The Legacy
Outfitters, Family Service, and was a trustee of the Navarro County
Health Services Foundation.
He was preceded in death by his father in law, John C. Hammond; and
his brother in law, J. T. Pass.
He is survived by his wife, Hollye; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. David
Campbell; his sister, Chari Hust and husband Bob of Houston, and
sister Carolyn Pass of Aledo; by his uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs.
Lowell Campbell of Corsicana; by his aunt, Mrs. Doris Binnion of
Kerrville, and numerous loving cousins. Also surviving are Hollye's
family, including her mother, Frances Hammond; sister, Libby Burkett
and husband Zack, and sister Mary Sanders, all of Graham; and her
brother, Chad Hammond and wife Heather, who reside in Japan. Chad is
associated with The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Charles
and Hollye were not blessed with children, but counted among their
blessings numerous nieces and nephews whom they loved as their own.
Services are under the direction of the Morrison Funeral Home of
Graham, Texas. Graveside services and interment will be in the
Hammond family plot at the Pioneer Cemetery in Graham at 3:30 p.m.
Monday, April 30, 2012.
On the following Thursday, May 3, 2012, there will be a Memorial
Mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Corsicana, Texas at
4 p.m.
If it is your wish memorial donations may be directed to the James
L.
Collins Catholic School of Corsicana, the Corsicana YMCA, or a
charity of your choice.

Gentlemen:
When Mrs. Cora Berry Coates, the wife of Wm. B. Coates, of Kerens,
quietly slept away in the wake of an early frost this October, she
passed as she had lived-quietly, gently, and with infinite trust in
her God. Her long life of ninety years and some months had been a
benediction to all who knew her; and her passing, like her life, was
without confusion.
Born in old Wadeville back in 1867, she lived all her days in
Navarro County-helping her husband manage his farming interests,
raising her family, and being a good neighbor; a source of
never-failing help to the large colored community who looked to her
for assistance; and an influence for good generally in the Kerens
area.
I knew Mrs. Coates personally for more than fifty years and vividly
recall her first kindness to me when, as a boy of seven or eight
years, I first visited Kerens with my father. With deep appreciation
I recall her subsequent kindnesses to myself and to my three sons
when, 20 years ago, I first brought them to Kerens. I remember how
she took care of old Sam Sebron, a former slave, who lived to be
nearly 105 years old and who, when she was a little girl, had waited
on her. In his old age Sam became addled from time to time and from
his cabin back of her home, sometimes he would call out “Cora! Cora.
Come help me” – And always she did help him, quieting his childlike
fears and looking after him. And I remember the amusement that
lighted her eyes when she often recalled an incident in which my
father was the central figure. He was spending the night and had
jocosely requested her to “Wake me early-I want to hear your
roosters crow.” Of course, in those days, nearly everybody had
chickens in the backyard; and roosters do have a way of crowing
throughout the early, early morning hours. When Col. Bob finally
came to breakfast he exclaimed, “My God, Mrs. Coates, you must have
a thousand roosters-and all of ‘em crowed all night long.”
Mrs. Coates will be missed in and around Kerens, but I suspect she
will be welcomed by a heavenly host now that she has gone to her
peaceful and well-deserved earthly rest. Her husband, children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren should receive some comfort in
the knowledge that she was a grand lady; neither worldly minded, nor
envious, nor resentful-a long-lived example of the truth of the old
saying “He also serves who only stands and waits.”
