You will be missed - so profoundly missed. Brooklyn,
Isaiah, Ezekiel, Zane, Auriel, Amara, and I want you

kindness, and laughter have left an indelible mark
on our hearts. I often find myself reminiscing about
the countless memories we've created together.
Your ability to uplift those around you and bring
joy into even the simplest of moments is a gift that
we all admire. Whether we were gathered for a

and Ima Blissette.
Willie (Billy) Blissette was born, raised and lived
in and around Corsicana, Texas and was the most
steady of all our family members.
This did not take a lot of steadiness but still he
was the steadiest and if you didn't like his speed
it didn't change him.
We met Billy in or about 1973, as a result of a
repair of a lawnmower.
Billy on his days off from the Texas Highway
Department continued to repair the unrepairable
lawnmowers and other small motors and that he did
where ever he went.
No small motor had a chance of dying on his watch.
He wrangled an invitation to supper in the home of
Mary Elizabeth Thornton Long and just didn't stay
away until she had him hooked.
They got married on June 7, 1973 and life was never
the same for the Blissettes.
Billy never officially adopted the children that
came with Mary, but he was a daddy that provided all
the comforts of home and security of his steadiness.
The Thornton family was blessed with a
Brother-in-law and Mary had a faithful husband.
The children: Helen Dianne, Gary Lynn, George Edward
(Eddie) and Kim were given a home that was a source
of security and a father figure that was a witness
of the Love of any father. He was a wonderful father
and grandfather who loved his family. He loved to
spend time with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. He was an active member of the
2nd Avenue Baptist Church of Corsicana. His
wonderful personality and spirit will be greatly
missed by his entire family, his church family, and

Barbara Joyce (Allred) Morris
Dec 26, 1934 - Dec 4, 2024
It's
common today to have a celebration of life when a
loved one transitions out of this world into the
next. However, in the case of Joyce Allred Morris,
her entire life was already a celebration of each
precious moment. Joyce Morris made each day count.
Always impeccably dressed, with a beautiful smile,
Joyce had an infectious joy about her which spilled
over to everyone in her path.
Joyce passed away December 4, 2024, just days away
from her 90th birthday. Born in Corsicana December
26, 1934, to William Floyd and Susie Bell Allred.
Proud of her early life being raised on the Cotton
Mill block where her parents were employed. She
graduated from Corsicana High School. In 1954 she
married the love of her life, Carl Wayne Morris.
Supporting one another in a career which ranged from

residential development and home building. The

was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The
family was separated for her to receive treatments
at MD Anderson in Houston, while children were
raised by two sets of Grandparents. Little hope was
given for survival.
The will to survive, to develop and show strength in
the face of almost insurmountable adversity, is what
gave Joyce a voice for Joy. Friends and family
recognized a courage and strength in her that became
an inspiration for all to keep life in perspective.
As years passed, she was also diagnosed with breast
cancer, liver cancer and more challenges that she
met with strength like no other. This was seen until
her passing.
Not to be held back by health issues she created new
businesses following her interior design dreams. She
and sister-in-law Clydell Allred started PJ's
Interiors in 1970's, Daughter Cindy & Joyce opened
The Family Tree Interior design business and Tea
Room downtown Corsicana in 1982. Finally, Estate
Sales by Joyce Morris was her passion. She developed
a reputation of honoring family heirlooms, their
history, and gained the respect of many loyal
clients. She actually worked on her own estate sale
from a distance in the past few months.
Volunteering was also important in her life. Working
closely with Navarro County Cancer society, American
Businesswomen's Association, where she was selected
Women of the Year, and served many years on the
board of Kinsloe House.

stuck at the top, and having to be rescued by the
fire department, and (most infamously) making a
bubble bath in the baptismal font at the church. Of
course honorable mention goes to Becky for her
successful experiment to see how many rolie-polies
she could stuff up the nose of her little brother
George always a willing subject in the pursuit of
science.
Becky was a member of the Corsicana High School
Class of 1967 and thoroughly enjoyed maintaining
friendships with her classmates over the years. She
spent most of her career working for the state as a
caseworker and investigator chasing that elusive
unicorn known as state retirement. Becky's dream was
to buy an RV and travel the country. Unfortunately
her dream was limited by the early loss of her
vision. She made the best of it and took lots of
trips, where she was NOT the driver, with her
friends and family. The pride and joy of her life
was her family; she was a loving mother to daughter
Lacy and son-in-law Brady and a devoted Nannie to
her grandchildren Mason and Addison, whose
accomplishments she never tired of regaling.
Becky passed away peacefully at home surrounded by
her friends and loved ones on October 11, 2024.
We celebrate her joyous reunion in Heaven with Mamie
and Mollie Blackmon, Edward Graham, Cynthia O'
Connell, Robert (Nannie) Taylor, Robert Graham,
George Graham, and Elizabeth Chatterjee. Left to
cherish her memory and remember her ready laugh,
bright smile and wry sense of humor are daughter
Lacy Smyth and husband Brady, grandchildren Mason
and Addison Smyth, brother David Graham, beloved
friend Barbara Elrod and many fond nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Memorial Services for Becky will be held at Corley
Funeral Home on Saturday, November 9th at 10:00 am
with graveside services to follow. |

Frank Lackland Means, Sr.
Jun 19, 1926 - Sep 6, 2024
Frank
Lackland Means, Sr., a devoted husband, father, and
respected figure in the construction industry,
passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, at the
age of 98. Born on June 19, 1926, in San Antonio,
Texas, Frank was one of seven siblings who thrived
in a household rich with love and laughter.
An outstanding student athlete, Frank's exceptional
talent earned him a football scholarship to
Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where
he became a four-sport lettermanan extraordinary
achievement at the time and one that would be
virtually impossible in today's specialized world of
athletics. In 1955, he married the love of his life,
Martha Louise Andrews, daughter of a prominent
cotton merchant in Memphis, Tennessee. Their 60
years of marriage were filled with joy, partnership,
and unwavering support for one another until
Martha's passing in 2016 at the age of 85.
Frank dedicated his career to construction
management, beginning with small, single-family
homes and ultimately overseeing the construction of
towering office buildings and convention hotels. His
final project was especially meaningful: he managed
the building of his and Martha's retirement home on
the golf course in Shalimar, Florida. After enjoying
22 years in that beautiful community, Frank and
Martha relocated to Corsicana, Texas, to be closer
to their three sons and, more importantly, their
four grandchildren, all within a 50-mile radius.
For the last six years of his life, Frank, Sr.
resided in The Villages, Florida, living
independently until the very end. He found great joy
in frequent visits from his sons and their families,
including Allin and Kelle Means of St. Louis,
Charles and Pamela Means of Corsicana and Frank, Jr.
and his wife, Melissa, who lived nearby. Frank's
home was always a gathering place, filled with love
and laughter, reflecting the strong family bonds he
cherished.
A born-again Christian, Frank had the assurance of
living now and forever in paradise with his Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith was the cornerstone
of his life, guiding him through every challenge and
triumph.
Frank is survived by his three sons, who carry
forward his values, along with numerous
grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will
remember him for his warmth and wisdom. His legacy
of kindness, strength, and dedication will forever
inspire those who knew him.
Rest in peace, Dad. Your spirit will continue to
guide and inspire all of us as we celebrate a life
well-lived.
No service is planned at this time. In lieu of cards
or flowers, perform a random act of kindness today. |

Phyllis Jean (Starks)
Lewis
Dec 25, 1936 - Aug 31, 2024

'Sorrow sings when it runs too deep for tears.'
- From a churchyard in Devon
Phyllis Jean Lewis (nee Starks) was born in
Corsicana, Texas on Christmas Day, 1936, to Ted and
Marselle Mitchell Starks. The family moved to
Houston in 1940 and returned to Corsicana in 1947
when Ted bought Jimmie's Caf on Beaton Street.
After his untimely death, Marselle continued to run
the caf until after her remarriage. Kyle C Adkins
became a loving, lifelong dad to Phyllis and her
younger sister.
Phyllis loved performing from an early age, studying
dance and drama at Miss Cook's School, well known to
many a youngster growing up in Corsicana in the
1950s. She adored singing and was good at it,
whether singing hymns in church choirs or belting
out Maguire Sisters hits with her girlfriends Joan
and Jean Ann. She learned piano early on and later
played flute in the Corsicana High School band.
She graduated from the high school in 1954, and
entered North Texas State in Denton, earning a BA in
speech and drama in 1958. At college, she had
pledged Alpha Delta Pi and led a typical sorority
girl life until her senior year when she fell in
with a rather different crowd of students including
a future Pulitzer Prize winning novelist, a future
contributing editor of Rolling Stone, and her future
husband, John Lewis, who became an internationally
known academic. They married in 1962.
In 1965, they moved to Windsor, Ontario, when John
joined the philosophy faculty at the University of
Windsor. This was a 'let's just see how we like
Canada' moment that turned out to be home for the
rest of her life. Their son and three daughters grew
up there, and the family also enjoyed sabbatical
years in the UK at Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh and
Cardiff.
A devoted wife and mother, Phyllis still found time
to pursue her acting and singing projects. She was a
stalwart of Windsor Light Opera, taking lead roles
in productions such as The King and I, Camelot and
South Pacific. She also acted with Jeff Daniels'
Purple Rose Theatre, across the border in Michigan,
and took on commercial work with Detroit's
Greenfield Village and countless radio and
television gigs. Along the way she studied with the
legendary Uta Hagen in New York.
What else of a long life well lived? Phyllis made a
mean chili and was a finalist in the All-Michigan
Cook-Off. She was a liberal Democrat, a voracious
reader, a passionate gardener, a High Church
Episcopalian, a lover of all dogs, cats and babies,
and a proud dual citizen of the US and Canada. Most
of all, she had a rare gift for friendship that will
leave all who knew her feeling their loss. She died
in Calgary on 31 August after a long illness.
She is survived by her son Gregory Lewis of Detroit,
MI, and daughters Pamela Heidt of Aberystwyth,
Wales, Rebecca Heidt of Calgary, Alberta, and Emily
Lewis, of Uzbekistan; six grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren; cousins Tommie Jean Gibbs of
Garland and James David Stubbs of Corsicana; and her
sister Sharon Schweps, of Glasgow, Scotland.
A memorial will be held in Windsor later in the
year. |

Dilday officiating. Burial was in the
Dresden Cemetery.
Survivors include one brother, James A. Dowdle of Ana
Cortes, Wash.; four sisters, Mrs. A. C. Reesing of Clifton,
Mrs. W. D. Eskew of San Angelo, Mrs. Kermit Westmoreland of

was a teacher in the public schools. She had taught 18 years
in Clifton schools and later in Bangs Schools
Notes:
-------
Services Held For Miss
Dowdle
It was with deep regret
that the many friends in Clifton of Miss Alva Dowdle, aged
54 years, 13 months, and 2 days, of Refugio, learned of her
death in that city at approximately 3:00 o'clock on Saturday
afternoon, August 30. Miss Dowdle was a beloved teacher in
the Clifton Public Schools for 18 years.
Having spent the summer months in Clifton with her
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Albert C. Reesing,
Miss Dowdle left here on Monday of last week for Refugio,
where for the past two years she had been employed as
librarian in the public schools.
Miss Dowdle boarded in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Anton
Jorgenson in Refugio, and it was several hours following the
time when her death evidently occurred that Miss Dowdle's
body was discovered by Mrs. Jorgenson. Miss Dowdle had not
been well during the summer months, and her friends here did
not have the privilege of being with her as much as was
usually the case during her visits in this city.
Fifth of the eight children of the late James D. Dowdle and
Mrs. Mattie Edmondson Dowdle, Miss Alva Dowdle was born on
October 28, 1903, at Purdon in Navarro County.
As the Purdon School had only ten grades, Miss Dowdle stayed
for a year with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Mills,
at Canton, where she completed her high school education. It
was following her graduation from high school that she took
an examination in the County School Superintendent's office
which qualified her for a temporary teacher's certificate.
Miss Dowdle then was elected as a member of the faculty of
the Dresden School near Purdon; during the 37 years of her
teaching career she taught at Morgan, Clifton, Van, Kaufman,
and Refugio. It was during the summer months and by
correspondence courses in the winters that she received her
Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and later
her Master of Arts Degree in Library Science from East Teas
State College at Commerce. Toward these degrees Miss Dowdle
also took courses at Clifton College, Sul Ross State College
at Alpine, and West Texas State College at Canyon.
As previously mentioned, Miss Dowdle taught for 18 years in
the Clifton Public School - from 1929 Through 1947. During
thoise years she was a greatly respected teacher in th4e
elementary grades, where her devotion to her profession left
its mark upon many of the young people in this vicinity.
She was an excellent teacher, a fine disciplinarian, and
fair in erh dealings with her students in whose welfare she
always was interested, even after they progressed beyond her
jurisdiction.
Miss Dowdle's greatest interests were her school children
and her nephews and nieces, whom she particularly enjoyed.
She always was ready to do anything suggested by her nephews
and nieces and to take them anywhere they wanted. to go. She
understood young people and received pleasure in seeing them
enjoy themselves.
Following the death of Miss Dowdle's mother on May 24, 1932,
she aided her younger sisters both by her counsel and
financial assistance in helping them receive training with
which they could become self-supporting. She was devoted to
her family.
At Purdon in 1913, Miss Dowdle became a member of the
Baptist Church. When she came to Clifton to teach, she moved
her membership to the First Baptist Church in this city,
where it remained until her death last Saturday. For
many years both here and at Purdon she taught Sunday School
classes. As a young girl she first taught a primary class at
Purdon. Miss Dowdle also was a member of the Clifton
Chapter of the Eastern Star.
When she had leisure hours, Miss Dowdle spent them in
reading, which was a great joy to her. She had a delightful
sense of homor and a wonderful capacity for understanding
others.
Left to survive Miss Dowdle are one brother, James Adrain
Dowdle, of Anacortes, Washington; four sisters, Mrs. W. B.
Eskew (Alice) of San Angelo, Mrs. Albert C. Reesing (Erma
Lee), of Clifton, Mrs. Kermit Westmoreland (Faye) of Fort
Worth, and Mrs. Helen Hays of Houston; four nephews; and
four nieces. Preceding her in death, in addition to her
mother previously mentioned, were her father on March 15,
1952 in Clifton and an older sister and brother, Lora, who
died at the age of 19 while a student at Baylor University
in Waco and Robert Amos, whose death occurred at the age of
six years as the result of a fall from a tree.
Funeral services for Miss Dowdle were held at 1:00 o'clock
on Monday afternoon, September 1, at the Clifton Funeral
Home Chapel and were conducted by Reverend R. H. Dilday Jr.,
pastor of the First Baptist Church here.
During the services Miss Janice Collins sang "Rock of Ages"
and "Sweet Bye And Bye" and was accompanied at the organ by
Miss Lynda Asheraft.
Pallbearers were Harry Womack, O. L. (Dick) Golden, Raymond
Reesing, Leroy Reesing, A. B. Ulland, and Walter Hansen, all
of Clifton.
Interment followed at 3:15 o'clock that afternoon in the
family plot at
Dresden Cemetery near Purdon.
In their sorrow at the loss of this lady, who dedicated her
life to be of service to others, members of her family have
the most heartfelt sympathy of her friends every where.

Granville Gene "Jack" Summitt
Jan 18, 1935 - Dec 16, 2024
Granville Gene "Jack" Summitt, 89, beloved husband, father,
grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away
on December 16, 2024. He was born on January 18, 1935, in
Corsicana, Texas, to Hallie Robinson Summitt and Granville
Chester Summitt.
After graduating from Corsicana High School, Jack attended
Navarro Junior College, where he was named All-Conference
Guard on the championship football team in 1954. He received
a scholarship to play football at Lamar University in
Beaumont, Texas, but his football career was cut short by a
serious injury sustained while working a summer job in the
oil field. Throughout his recovery, he was lovingly
supported by Joan Dell Curington, whom he married in 1956.
Jack fully recovered, completed his studies at Lamar, and
graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in petroleum
geology. While in Beaumont, Jack and Joan became the proud
parents of a daughter, Lea Ann.
The young family returned to Corsicana to establish their
home. Jack began working as a petroleum geologist for
Southwestern Hydrocarbon Company. Later that year, their
family grew with the arrival of their son, Mark Steven. In
1963, Jack joined Stroube Development Company, working
alongside Mr. H.R. Stroube and Mr. W.C. Stroube - a
professional relationship he valued for many years.
Eventually, Jack was able to purchase his own drilling rig
and equipment, enabling him to acquire oil leases and begin
working independently. In 1970, Jack and Joan were blessed
with another child, their surprise daughter, Laurel Jane.
Throughout his career, Jack developed numerous productive
oil leases and wells in the Corsicana shallow field area. He
also pursued graduate studies at the University of Texas at
Arlington, taught geology and petroleum technology at
Navarro College, and worked as a consultant for Navarro
Waterflood Company and the Tarrant County Water Board.
Always seeking new challenges, Jack constantly pursued
projects and opportunities to expand his business ventures.
Jack was an active member of his community. He was a
lifelong Freemason. He served as an usher and on various
committees at the Methodist Church, coached youth football,
and was involved with the YMCA board. He also served as
president of both the Navarro College Alumni Association and
the Corsicana Country Club. In his later years, he

Kenneth Wade
Kilcrease, Sr.
Apr 10, 1936 - Dec 18, 2024
Kenneth Wade Kilcrease
Sr., 88, born and raised in Kerens, Texas, passed away
peacefully at his home on December 18, 2024 in the arms of
his loving wife Patsy Kilcrease.
Kenneth was born on April 10, 1936 to Bert Daniel Kilcrease
and Allie Mae Breeding. He was the first of three children
born of this union. Kenneth attended school in Kerens
working alongside his family on their farm. He began riding
horses as a young child which ingrained a love for ranching,
successfully raising both horses and cattle most of his
life. At an early age, Kenneth developed a love for the
finer things working hard to earn his way in this world. He
left home at the age of 16 pursuing a career in pipeline
welding that took him all over the world. Kenneth never lost
sight of his Kerens roots. He married his high school
sweetheart, Martha Nell Wright and started a family shortly
thereafter having two sons, Kenneth Wade Kilcrease Jr. and
William Bert Kilcrease. Kenneth brought his family along
with him on his travels to keep them close by his side. When
he traveled overseas, he knew his family would be safe at
home in the care of the Wright family.
In June 1971, Kenneth married Joan Hawkins Kenner gaining 3
more wonderful children, Candis Wells (Jim), Chris Kenner
(Glenna), and Kathy Jo Commiato (Dave). This blended union
was blessed for many years with love and laughter. Kenneth
and Joan enjoyed travel, dancing, and playing games with
their close friends. When they were home, they could always
be found having coffee and visiting with others around their
table. During this time, the family continued to grow with
the addition of grandchildren.
Kenneth doted on his grandchildren but always held them to
the highest standard. He instilled a work ethic in each of
these children that has filtered down through the years
leaving a significant legacy. He loved each of his
grandchildren in his own unique way taking a vested interest
in their unique talents and abilities. Once the great
grandchildren came, his love grew deeper and his heart
softened as he
could often be found playing with them in the floor,
traveling to spectate in their activities, and teaching them
how to plant a garden. He would tell them often to save
their money for a rainy day. He shared memorable stories of
his childhood adventures and tall tales of the creatures
lurking in the woods.
Kenneth's travels, both personal and professional, took him
across the globe from the US to the Middle East and the
Persian Gulf, Libya, South Korea, the North Sea, Mexico, and
England. "Kenny" was known as a legend in the pipeline
industry achieving the honor of assisting in the
construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline in the mid-1970s.
He would later bring his son's Kenny and Bert to work
alongside him.
Bert continued on his career path, following in his father's
footsteps mastering the trade and traveling the world with
opportunities to work together with Kenneth. Time cherished
by both men. Kenneth was a proud member of the Pipeliners
Union 798 for 70 years. He talked often of his adventures
and possessed an acquired skill set for poker. Kenneth loved
to enjoy life but when it was time to work, that is just
what he did. If he presented a job to do, "you had better
get your rear in gear."
Following the death of his wife Joan, Kenneth met Patsy
Elaine Sharpe through a mutual friend. After a whirlwind
courtship, they married giving Patsy the gift of family.
Kenneth and Patsy shared some travels and adventures but
continued cattle operations.
He is preceded in death by Madden Thompson (great grandson),
Lovenia and Marvin Potter (sister and brother in law), Erin
Kilcrease (grandson), Candis Wells (daughter), Joan
Kilcrease, and Martha Nell.
