James Charles "Pete"
Selman
Aug 26, 1926 - May 17, 2013
James "Pete"
Charles Selman passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, in
Pflugerville, Texas at the age of 86. Pete was the
son of Charles Marion Selman and Maggie Lee
Atchison, born on August 26, 1926 in Navarro County,
Texas.
He graduated with a class of 31 students from
Kerens High School in May 1944 having already
enlisted in the Texas State Guard in February 1942
at the age of 16. Pete immediately joined the United
States Navy in August 1944 and proudly served his
country for 2 years in the South Pacific on the
U.S.S. Murray, a Fletcher Class Destroyer. Pete was
a member of the "Tin Can Sailors" and proudly
displayed his service history.
Having been honorably discharged, Pete pursued a
career in the "pinball" and "jukebox" industry where
he met his wife of 47 years, Virginia Dare Freeman
in Longview, Texas. They were married in the Chalk
Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Rusk County, Texas.
Pete was employed by Reliable Music Company in
Longview, Texas for more than 50 years.
Pete and Virginia proudly raised three boys together
and took great enjoyment in watching their
grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow over the
years. They enjoyed many trips together while
working on Virginia's family genealogy. After the
love of his life became ill in 1992, they moved to
Pflugerville, Texas where Pete devoutly stayed by
her side until her passing in 1996. Pete's devotion
to his wife, family and friends was as great as any
person could hope to achieve.
Although he struggled with health issues for many
years, he never complained. Having grown up on the
family farm, he learned to deal with very little and
to know true hardship; he was always very
appreciative with whatever God blessed him and felt
very blessed, even in his final days.
Pete truly enjoyed watching baseball from his
recliner where one could often find him napping. His
grandchildren lovingly knew him as "Pop" and he took
great happiness in taking them to the shop to play
pinball and video games. He also loved cooking them
hotcakes for breakfast. Pete was a huge dog lover
and always got great pleasure from taking his friend
for a ride in his truck.
Pete's tremendous heart and caring for others did
not stop with family. He was always willing to help
anyone who needed help. During his final years, Pete
started a fund for a Veterans Memorial in downtown
Kerens, Texas to honor all of the Veterans who came
from Kerens. This was done in association with the
Kerens Ex-Student Association.
Pete is survived by his sister, Alberta Binns and
husband Arnold of Farmers Branch, Texas; his sons,
Danny Selman and wife Linda of Spring Branch, Texas,
Dale Selman and wife Nancy of Longview, Texas, and
Dwain Selman and wife Jan of Pflugerville, Texas;
grandchildren, James Selman, Stephen Selman, Kenneth
Selman, Robin Hampton, Melinda Caskey, Andy Selman,
Gena Weissinger, Nancy Ruth Wilson, David Barton,
and Carol Wolfe; many great-grandchildren; and his
beloved dog, Sadie.
A visitation will be held in Pflugerville, Texas at
Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home. A second
visitation will be held in Longview, Texas at Welch
Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in
the chapel of Welch Funeral Home. Interment will
follow at Stewart Community Cemetery in Rusk County,
Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to the Veterans Memorial in care of KESA at

Her father was a musician and played many
instruments. He also owned an Inn and a Welding
business both of which he ran together with Annie 's

After the war the family moved to Austria where
Annie became a seamstress and then studied fashion
design in Vienna. While living in Wels, Austria she
met the love of her life, a Texas cowboy named Lewis
Williams, nick named Willie and affectionately named
Schatzie by Annie.
After Willie returned to the US after his

immediately married in Washington DC. The couple

began working in the fashion business and her spunk
and charismatic personality immediately contributed
to her career success and she became a fashion

Annie 's career allowed her to travel to New York,
LA, Japan, China and Italy. She and Willie also
traveled back to Austria and visited places they
went to while they dated.
Annie and Willie had a home and land in Red Oak and
then built their dream home in Blooming Grove, where
they raised cattle and had a peach orchard. Annie
loved dogs and there was always a family pet by her

She was close to many wonderful people and families
and the Gibbs and Glass families were there always
there for Annie.

charming woman in every room she was in and had an

McSpadden
Nov 19, 1943 - Jan 15, 2025
Ralph
Douglas McSpadden went to his eternal home on
January 15, 2025, with family members surrounding
him. He was born November 19, 1943, in Blooming
Grove, Texas to parents, Seth Alonzo McSpadden and
Rubene Hiler McSpadden. Ralph grew up on the family
farm near Dresden, a place he called his "rock." He
graduated from Blooming Grove High School where he
was proud to be a player on their 1961 District
Championship team.
After high school, Ralph began his lifelong work in
retail grocery. His dedicated work ethic
distinguished him and prompted his boss, Mr. Chapman
(known as "Chap") to encourage him to continue with
the company and go for management. He worked for
Safeway until they closed in Texas, then moved on
the HEB, Corsicana, where he was in management until
his retirement in 2007. He retired to his beloved
farm (in the McSpadden family since 1889) to begin a
new life - tending cattle while applying his
extraordinary aptitude for hard work and long hours
to that which he loved most farm and family. He
enjoyed Gunsmoke, John Wayne movies, gospel music
and the Dallas Cowboys (except when they played
"stupid" or didn 't work hard enough to win). He
retired earlier than planned due to the effects of
critical lung disease the thing that ended his
life much to soon. He told everyone who would
listen, "Do not pick up that first cigarette!"
Ralph was preceded in death by his father, Seth
McSpadden, his mother, Rubene McSpadden and his
brother, Gerald McSpadden. He is survived by his
wife, Patsy Eharl Boyd McSpadden, Daughter, Michel

Wanda (Dunagan)
Connor

Oct 2, 1934 - Feb 11, 2025
Wanda
Connor, 90, passed away peacefully on February 11,
2025.
Wanda is the beloved Mother of Tony Connor & his
wife, Jolini, as well as Cathy MacKenzie & her
husband Gil. She was also a devoted Grandmother of
7, Great Grandmother of 17 and soon to be a Great
Great, aka Memommie. At age 70, she & her son, Tony
began raising her great grandson, Tony II. She
leaves behind a legacy of love to all her family,
including her sister & brother-n-law, nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Wanda is the oldest of four girls, born in Frost,
Texas to Ernest and Estle Travis Dunagan. They all
preceded her in death, along with her husband of 46
years, Travis Connor. Her strong faith got her
through all these tough losses, but the hardest of
these which no mother should ever have to endure,
were her eldest son, Ronnie Connor in 1978 and her
middle son, Barry Connor Sr. in 2002.
Wanda and her husband Travis, were married in Fort
Smith, Arkansas on June 24, 1950. In 1961, after
becoming a family of six, they moved from their
hometown of Italy, Texas to Grand Prairie, where
they bought their first home and Wanda resided for
the next 64 years. Wanda was only 15 and Travis 19
when they eloped but they said she 18. In 1964, a
law was passed that stated the wife would not
receive her husband 's social security benefits if
they were under age and did not have their parents '
signature on their marriage certificate. So, after
much humiliation to Wanda, all 4 of their children
attended their second marriage vows in the front
yard of Travis ' parents ' home. One hiccup was their
oldest son, Ronnie, held up his hand when the
minister, his uncle, asked if anyone objected to
this marriage. Fortunately, Uncle Odes ignored
Ronnie.
Wanda 's faith and commitment to her community were
central to her life. She was a cherished member of
the Gospel Lighthouse Church until recently when her
health began declining and she started attending
church with her kids, Tony and Jolini @ Calvary
Family Worship Center. Wanda had many interests and
achieved several goals, but she first raised her
children before pursuing them. After her youngest
started school, she began working in the school
cafeteria and continued working for 3.5 years.
Wanda 's lists of volunteering is endless: School
Room Mother, Sunday School teacher, Women 's Ministry
leader, Vacation Bible School worker, Host for
Senior potluck meals, Weekly volunteer @ local
nursing home to sing hymns & read bible story,
Driver to many seniors for church activities and
doctor 's visits who no longer drove, Christian
counselor, and last but definitely not least,
Memommie to her grands and great grandchildren which
included lots of free babysitting/overnight stays.
Wanda loved to read, watch game shows, and travel.
Her dream trip came at the ripe young age of 80 when
she traveled to the Holy Land and was baptized in
the Jordan River. Daily, she read her devotionals,
along with several chapters of her bible, then
always ended by praying for all her family and
friends. Her grandchildren will fondly remember her
by the lullabies & silly songs that she sang to
them.
A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Wanda
Connor 's life at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home,
2951 Beltline Rd, Grand Prairie, TX, 75052 on Feb.
26, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with her grandsons, Aaron
Guthrie Sr & Jr officiating. Visitation @ 10AM on
the morning of the Feb 26th. Graveside Services will
follow at 2pm at the Italy, Tx Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, feel free to donate to the Salvation Army
Emergency Relief Fund. |

Feb 17, 1939 - Mar 11, 2025
Bobbie
McDowell passed away peacefully, meeting with her
Lord and Savior, on March 11, 2025. At 86 years old,
she was a beloved daughter, sister, mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother and a devoted
member of First Baptist Church of Blooming Grove.
Bobbie was born on February 17, 1939, in Cryer
Creek, Texas to Robert and Gertie Bryant. She grew
up on her family 's farm with her younger brother and
sister where she spent her summers picking cotton.
She is a class of '57 graduate of Blooming Grove
High School. Upon her graduation, Bobbie moved to
Dallas and began working at Texas Instruments (TI)

Bobbie met Bob McDowell and after dating eight
months he decided they needed to make a stop at the
jewelry store to buy her a ring; 'til this day, he
has yet to officially ask her to marry him. While
living in Dallas, Bob and Bobbie co-founded four
successful high-tech engineering service and sales
companies, one of which Bobbie was nominated for the
Venture 's Entrepreneur of the Year award in the
Dallas area. In her later years, she and Bob
transitioned back to her country girl roots in
Blooming Grove where Bob began dabbling in the
cattle business with her controlling the checkbook.
While these were worthy successes for her, the thing
Bobbie was most known for was her kind heart and her
love for Jesus Christ. She genuinely cared and
worried about everyone she met and always had a hug
on hand for anyone, including the many friends that
came home from school with her own three kids.

Richard Errol Hinkle
Dec 15, 1941 - Mar 18, 2025
Richard
Errol Hinkle, age 83, passed away peacefully at home
on March 18, 2025, surrounded by his family in Toano,
VA. Richard was born on December 15, 1941, in Barry,
Texas, the youngest of nine born to James William
Hinkle and Edwina Dozier Hinkle. Richard attended
school in Blooming Grove, TX. One day as a teenager
while working in the fields, he saw a plane fly
overhead and decided then and there that he would
see the world. He joined the Navy after graduating
and began a life fulfilling that dream. His sister
Diane introduced him to the love of his life, Ella
Olson, while he was home on leave from the Navy.
They secretly eloped together on January 11, 1963,
and he asked his mother to take care of her because
she was his wife as he drove out of the driveway to
return to the Navy. Richard later went to the
University of Houston, getting a degree in
microbiology. Richard, his wife, and their two
daughters, Anne and Greta, spent their lives
continuing to live out his dream of seeing the
world, working and living in different locations in
the U.S. and overseas, including the Philippines,
Thailand, Turkey, and China, and visiting many, many
more. Richard spent time on every continent but
Antarctica, and after retiring, he and his wife
bought an RV and visited every state in the
contiguous U.S.
Richard was a true patriot, choosing to serve his
country loyally and valiantly for his entire career.
His adventurous life was fodder for his gift of
storytelling. He had a mischievous sense of humor,
gently goading and teasing those he loved. He had a
gentle touch and a kind soul. He was loved by all
who met him.
Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ella;
his daughters Anne and Greta (Salim); his
grandchildren Zakaria, William Ilyas, and Aisha
Norah; his sisters Carolyn and Diane; his brother
Hollis; and a multitude of nieces and nephews,

childhood. After graduating, he answered the call to
serve his country by joining the Army, where he was
part of the communications division. When his
service ended, he built a career at Southwestern
Bell, dedicating years of hard work until his
retirement. But retirement didn 't mean slowing down
for Jackie. Instead, he turned to a life that had
always been close to his heart - farming. His land
and his cows meant the world to him, and he poured
his time, energy, and love into it. He was not only
a hardworking man but also a great businessman who
never met a stranger and knew the value of
perseverance and dedication.
In 1960, Jackie married the love of his life, Lurene

and he enjoyed learning about different cultures
while on his expeditions. Being one of the best
hunters and a storyteller, Donald kept everyone
interested that had the privilege to sit and talk
with him. He had a close relationship with God.

Anita; his brother, Danny Jr.; and his son, Nathan
Clay Nicholson. There is no doubt that he is
rejoicing in heaven and storytelling with family and
his dear friends that have passed before him.
Donald's wishes were to be cremated and the
following inscription to be on his headstone-
"A Renaissance Man" When my time this earth has
passed, grieve for me not, for I have been greatly
blessed. I have seen magnificent wild creatures and
the lands where they lived and I know their Creator
as my own"!
He meant this statement and was ready in his mind
and heart on the day of his passing. His uplifting

Jacqueline Annette
"Jackie Ann" (Colvin) McSpadden
September 24, 1940 - July 6, 2021
Jackie
McSpadden
September 24, 1940 - July 6, 2021
On Tuesday July 6,
2021, the world lost a loving wife, a caring mother,
a trailblazing teacher, an avid pianist, a loyal
friend to many, and a dedicated servant of Jesus -
Jackie Ann McSpadden (ne Colvin). She was 80 years
young.
Jackie was born in Crowley, Louisiana on September
24, 1940. She grew up in Lake Charles and attended
LaGrange High school, graduating in 1958. While in
high school, she represented her school, Calcasieu
Parish, and the State of Louisiana at the national
spelling bee, where she placed third. She was an
accomplished pianist, with favorite songs including
Malaguena, the aptly-named Dizzy Fingers, as well as
many traditional hymns. After high school, she
attended McNeese State University, graduating in
1961 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She began
teaching school in Lake Charles, pioneering the
teaching of "new math" to elementary school
students. In 1963, she moved to Houston to further
her career as a teacher. Several friends accompanied
her as roommates and fellow teachers Linda Stockman
(ne Watkins) and Marcia Bancroft (ne Hartman). Nancy
Newbrough (ne Revelle) came just a few months later.
On her first day in Houston, she met her future
husband and lifelong partner, James Daniel (Danny)
McSpadden, who was working as a chemical engineer at
the Atlantic Richfield refinery in Pasadena, Texas.
They married on August 1, 1964. Rumor has it that
Danny picked the month for the wedding, while she
picked the day.
Over the next two years, Jackie and Danny both
worked full time to purchase their first house
together on Parliament Drive, in the Arlington
Heights neighborhood in Houston. Jackie gave birth
to her two sons, James Daniel McSpadden, Jr. on
August 29, 1967, and William (Bill) Desmond
McSpadden on February 7, 1970. Two boys were a
handful and she retired from teaching after James
was born. Although she was not in the classroom, she
remained active. She joined the Parent Teacher
Association at Pearl Hall Elementary School, where
she participated as a room mother and many other
positions, coming to hold a life membership in the
PTA. During this time, Jackie and Danny were also
active members of Sunset United Methodist Church in
Pasadena, Texas, where she participated in Sunday
School, the handbell choir, and became a life member
of the United Methodist Women, making many lifelong
friends.
Jackie and Danny remained on Parliament Drive until
May 1991, when they moved to the Bay Forest
Neighborhood of Clear Lake, Texas. They joined Clear
Lake Methodist Church, becoming active in a local
Sunday school group and bible study where many new
friends were made. At this time, Jackie also became
involved with the PEO sisterhood, which stands for
philanthropic educational organization. PEO is known
for its motto women helping women reach for the
stars. Indeed, Jackie helped many women reach for
the same stars that she had reached herself. Jackie
also became involved with the Stephen Ministry,
whose purpose is to provide help and counseling for
those in crisis. She provided Christian counseling,
guidance, and comfort to many during some of their
most trying circumstances.
In the late 1990s, Jackie and Danny purchased an RV
and began traveling across the United States,
visiting friends, family, state capitols, historic
sites, and researching the genealogy of the
McSpadden and Colvin families. Their goal was to
visit the capital of all fifty states, which they
nearly accomplished. Only a handful of states in New
England, Alaska, and Hawaii eluded them. In February
2002, Jackie and Danny purchased a lake house on
Lake Conroe, just outside Willis, Texas. They
enjoyed views of the lake and cool evenings on their
deck above the water. They also joined First
Methodist Church in Conroe, where they made new
friends.
After Danny fully retired in 2006, Jackie and Danny
purchased a house in the Steiner Ranch neighborhood
in Austin, Texas. This allowed them to be close to
their son James, his wife Meredith, and three of
their grandchildren, Ellie, Luke, and Oliver. They
were also much closer to the University of Texas,
where they enjoyed the sporting events and the
lifelong learning classes on campus. Their son Bill
and their other three grandsons, Crawford, Liam, and
Aidan, remained a short drive away in Dallas, Texas.
While in Austin, they again joined a local church -
Bethany Methodist Church, where they were active in
their Sunday school group and made many more
friends.
Jackie held a very active social life with lifelong
friends from her many circles her Lake Charles
friends, her roommates from her move to Houston, her
activities at Pearl Hall Elementary and Sunset
Methodist Church, her Sunday school friends from
Clear Lake, Conroe, and Austin, and her volunteer
organizations. Jackie relished her role as a servant
of Christ and her fellow man. All of us were touched
in some way by the generosity of her time, her love,
and her talents.
In 2012, Jackie was diagnosed with myasthenia
gravis, a rare autoimmune disease known as the
"snowflake" disease, because of the unique symptoms
that manifest for each patient. Jackie was a model
patient, battling the disease for many years. She
became an active participant in MG support groups,
attending local, regional, and national meetings and
providing support and guidance to many of her new
friends. Her recovery and fellowship became a role
model for many in the group, providing hope that
they too, could lead an active and fulfilling life
for many years while managing the symptoms of this
disease.
Jackie and Danny were married for nearly 57 years.
Their marriage was a model partnership built on
love, friendship, and companionship. They were
inseparable. Their fiftieth wedding anniversary was
memorable celebrated in 2014 in Breckenridge,
Colorado in the company of their children and
grandchildren, as well as several siblings that
attended as a surprise. Jackie and Danny were
tireless in their journeys to visit family, with
frequent cross-Texas trips between Blooming Grove,
Texas and Lake Charles, Louisiana during the
holidays. Over the past several years, she took joy
in attending the events and activities of her
grandchildren. Indeed, Jackie and Danny have logged
many miles on interstate 35 between Dallas and
Austin for visits with sons and grandchildren.
Jackie is survived by her loving and dedicated
husband of 57 years Danny McSpadden. She is also
survived by her two sons, James McSpadden (and his
wife Meredith), and Bill McSpadden (and his wife
Shannon) as well as her seven grandchildren:
Crawford Paul McSpadden (19)
Elizabeth (Ellie) Ruth McSpadden (18)
William (Liam) Daniel McSpadden (17)
Luke Marshall McSpadden (16)
Aidan Samuel McSpadden (15)
Oliver James McSpadden (13)
Samantha Elizabeth McSpadden (11)
The years 2001 2007 were significant for Jackie and
Danny, with a new grandchild added every year for
six straight years. With the addition of Samantha to
her family in 2014, she gained another granddaughter
and a lucky seventh grandchild. Jackie was preceded
by her younger sister Mary Alice Colvin.
Jackies funeral is scheduled for Thursday, August 5,
at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church,
10010 Anderson Mill Rd., Austin, Texas. Rev. Tom
Deviney, Pastor, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers or other memorials, the family
has requested that contributions be made to the

Ministry from the University of Dallas in 1991
alongside Charles, Sylvia worked as a hospice
chaplain. The couple also volunteered with
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance and Meals on
Wheels, bringing delicious food and friendship to
many. At Immaculate Conception Church, she was
active in the Women's Altar Society, Legion of Mary,
and Christmas in October, alongside Charles. She
also taught religious education, visited and brought
communion to residents in assisted living/nursing
homes throughout the area.
Those who knew Sylvia would describe her as
faith-filled, charismatic, and kind. Her faith
guided her, her warmth drew people to her, and her
passion for life was infectious. She inspired others
to live with purpose, to embrace each day with

David (Dave) Leon
Jenkins
Aug 16, 1940 - Mar 26, 2025
David
"Dave" Leon Jenkins, late of Corsicana, Texas, and
Galax, Virginia, passed peacefully on March 26,
2025, in Waco, Texas, surrounded by his loving
family after a long and bravely endured illness.
Born August 16, 1940, in Sikeston, Missouri, Dave
was one of eight children of Ike and Ophie Brooksie
Barker Jenkins. In 1946, the Jenkins family
relocated to Raymondville, Texas, where Dave came of
age and, as anyone who knew him might expect, became
a skilled horseman with a natural touch.
At 18, Dave joined the U.S. Navy, hoping to see the
world - and he found it, not in some far-off port,
but while on liberty from the Great Lakes Naval
Training Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There, he
met Carole Ann Thomas, the love and light of his
life. The two married on December 2, 1961, and
together built a life rooted in adventure, grit, and
deep affection.
Their early years took them across the American
West, with Dave working as a horse trainer and
Carole studying to become a nurse-midwife. In 1978,
Dave began breeding American Quarter Horses, and by
1982 had put down roots in Corsicana, Texas, where
he made his name - and his fortune - training
championship Cutting Horses. Together, they raised
three children and nurtured a love of Bluegrass and
Americana music.
In retirement, Dave and Carole split their time
between Texas and their cherished second home in
Galax, Virginia, overlooking Felts Park - home to
the Old Fiddlers Convention, the oldest and largest
old-time music festival in America. Each year during
the festival, they opened their doors to musicians,
friends, and wanderers from around the country and
the world. Their porch became a sanctuary, where
music flowed freely, the food was always hot, and
the company unmatched. If you left their home
hungry, it was your own fault.
Dave was preceded in death by his beloved wife,
Carole Ann Jenkins, and his daughter, Jonell Jenkins
White. He is survived by two daughters, Stacie
Jenkins and Carrie Jenkins Todd; four grandchildren,
Shane and Tara Todd, and Jacob and Lucas White; and
his beloved sisters, Elizabeth Conary and Brenda
Baldridge.
Dave never met a stranger. His generosity was as
wide as the Texas plains, and his love for Carole
spilled out and warmed everyone around them, like a
wood stove on a cold morning. His personal motto was
"Always think around the corner," and we take
comfort in knowing that's exactly where Carole has
been waiting for him.
Per his wishes, there will be no funeral or
celebration of life, instead, Dave and Carole's
ashes will be scattered together, high on a mountain
overlooking the Blue Ridge they came to call home.
In that view, in that music, in that lovethey will
always be with us. In lieu of flowers, we ask that
you consider donating to the Waynce C. Henderson
Scholarship Fund, which helps aid musicians in their
musical exploration and education:

children', a phrase always delivered in love.

ability to turn strangers into lifelong friends. Her

Italy, Texas on January 16,2025. He was the only child of
James and Viola, born on August 20, 1947. Jimmy lived pretty
much his whole life in Frost, Texas.
Graduated Frost High School in 1965 and attended Navarro
Junior College until he transferred to The University of
Texas in Austin. Jimmy graduated UT in 1969. Had he chosen
to continue his education just 15 more hours, Jimmy would
have earned an engineering degree. Instead, he chose to
return home and work alongside his father as a mechanic in
the local garage that his father and Mr. Omberg opened in
1939. Jimmy was very intelligent, and it didn't take him
long to become certified in everything to do with automotive

in his down time to stay knowledgeable and current with the
times.
On January 16,1976, Jimmy married Nancy Young from Frost,

would fly out for the weekend to the NASCAR race to cheer on
Nancy's favorite driver, Bill Elliot. And later on in life,
they would take daytrips to the coast but never linger to
long cuz they had to get home to their precious Sweetie.
Jimmy also dabbled a little in organic gardening, growing
fresh herbs and vegetables. He also had a soft spot for any
cat he came across. Cats in Frost could always find shelter
and a meal at Jimmy's garage. Coming and going as they
please, I'm sure Jimmy could tell you about everyone of
them.

On June 28, 1974, Leasa married the love her life,

enjoying the life they built with each other. They

Iroma
Christine (Clower) Applewhite
Oct 21, 1958 - May 28, 2025
Iroma
Christine Clower Applewhite, age 66, was born on
October 21, 1958 in Plainview, Tx to Ira Clower and
Lahoma Rowell Clower. She passed from this life on
May 28, 2025 surrounded by family in Corsicana, Tx.
Iroma graduated from Cotton Center High School in
1977. She married the love of her life, Morris
Applewhite, on August 12, 1977 in Cotton Center, Tx,
where he was a cotton farmer and she was a
homemaker. They had 2 daughters, Mori Kristin and
Lauren Shae.
Iroma graduated from Wayland Baptist University in
1998 and taught kindergarten at Akin Elementary in
Hale Center, Tx for 17 years. She loved each student
as her own and went out of her way to make them feel
special. She would have an end of school party each
year at her house where she enjoyed spoiling them.
She believed children should enjoy school and worked
hard to make it happen. On nights she couldn't
sleep, she would go to the school to work. One night
a police officer stopped at the school, saw a light
on, and asked her to go home because it wasn't safe
being at the school during such late hours. Iroma
was so passionate about teaching that she felt as if
she should be paying the school to let her teach.
Iroma was a godly woman who strongly loved her Lord
and Savior. As a young woman she taught Mission
Friends, Sunday School, and has always offered her
home for youth activities. Most recently she led
bible study for Community Bible Study in Corsicana.
She was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was
active in helping the Hope Center and the Good News
Cafe. She traveled to Brazil, Uganda, and Haiti to
share the love of Jesus through missions.
Her quick wit and use of sarcasm, as needed, along
with her excellent ability to be the hostess, opened
doors for people to admire and love her. She hosted
numerous wedding and baby showers while living in
Hale Center. Shopping was her favorite pastime along
with spending time with family at Lake LBJ each
summer. With her shopping escapades came her love of
her girl trips to Canton and Fredericksburg where
they shopped til they dropped. Iroma had vast
collections throughout the years including
children's books, Christmas and all holiday
decorations, and craft supplies galore. She also
loved traveling and spending time with her
grandsons, daughter, and son in law.
In 2017 Morris and Iroma moved from their home of 30
years in Hale Center to Corsicana Texas to be near
their grandsons Breagan and Braddock. She enjoyed
going to all their sports activities, school
programs, and taking them on adventures. She was the
epitome of how a Grammie should be. She loved her
boys with her whole heart and supported all their
endeavors.
Iroma is survived by her husband Morris Applewhite,
her daughter Mori Bell and husband Matthew, and her
grandsons Breagan and Braddock Bell all of
Corsicana, Tx. She is also survived by her brother
Keith Clower of Abernathy, Tx, her sisters Ramona
Hilliard (Shannon) of Monette, Ak, Denice Gast
(Keith) of Lubbock, and Kimberly Sierra (Dennis) of
Aurora, CO, brother in laws Marc Applewhite
(Glenna), Max Applewhite (Melissa), sister in law
Sheila Arnold (Morris) and numerous nieces and
nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter
Lauren Shae Applewhite, her parents Ira and Lahoma
Clower, and a great nephew Xander Wade.
Celebration of life services will be held at
