Betty Louise Cobb
Sep 27, 1926 - Jun 6, 2025
Betty
Louise Cobb, a cherished soul known affectionately
as Betty by her loved ones, passed away on June 6,
2025, at the age of 98 in Corsicana, Texas. Born on
September 27, 1926, in Mexia, Texas, Betty's life
was marked by her loving nature, creative spirit,
and unwavering kindness.
Betty was the heart of her family, a beacon of light
and warmth to all who knew her. She was predeceased
by her devoted husband, Wallace Thurman Cobb, and
her respected son-in-law, Randall Aston Martin. Her
legacy continues through her son, JD Cobb, and his
wife, Lisa Diane Cobb; her daughter, Carolyn Cobb
Martin; her adored granddaughter, Kristen Martin;
and her treasured great-granddaughters, Sydney and
Skylar Lohkamp. Betty also leaves behind Minnie
Pearl, the family dog and loyal companion, who
brought her immense joy and comfort in her later
years.
Before retiring, Betty dedicated many years of
service to Johnson Controls in the Globe Battery
Division located in Garland, Texas. Her colleagues
remember her as a steadfast and reliable presence,
always ready with a helping hand or a word of
encouragement. Betty's interests were a reflection
of her vibrant character. She loved square dancing
in her younger years with Thurman, her life partner
in every sense. Her hands were rarely still, as she
found joy in sewing and cooking, collecting
antiques, and creating a home filled with love and
the aroma of delicious meals. Betty's love for
travel took her on many adventures, but she was
always happiest cheering on her beloved Texas
Rangers, a passion she held close to her heart.
Those who knew Betty will recall a woman of
remarkable creativity, always finding new ways to
express her love and care. She was the embodiment of
kindness, touching the lives of everyone around her
with her gentle demeanor and generous spirit. Her
love extended beyond her family and friends, as she
was a friend to all, always willing to lend an ear
or share a smile. As we bid farewell to Betty Louise
Cobb, we celebrate the profound impact she had on
our lives. Her memory will be cherished and kept
alive in the stories we share and the love we
continue to carry in our hearts. Betty's journey on
this earth may have come to an end, but the legacy
of her love will resonate for generations to come. |
Gretchen (Bruins) London
Feb 1, 1927 - Jun 2, 2025
Gretchen
London, 98, was called home to be with our Lord, on
June 2, 2025. She was born on February 1, 1927, in
Alto, Wisconsin, the third of four children born to
John and Henrietta Bruins.
Gretchen was raised on the floor above Alto's
general store that her father owned. One of her
daily chores when she got home from school was to
run downstairs to wait on customers when the stores
doorbell rang, often greeting school children coming
in to buy penny candy from their large candy
counter. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Alto
for grades 1 8, always believing she was given the
epitome of personalized learning. She then
attended Waupun High School, seven miles away.
Driving the carpool for all the Alto students (known
collectively to the other high school students as
the Dutchmen from Alto), she charged each rider $1
a week, thinking of herself as an opportunist. In
high school she excelled in Debate, debating her
senior year in the Capitol Building in Madison, and
graduated as salutatorian in May 1944.
After high school Gretchen attended Hope College in
Holland, Michigan, for one year. Then, her sister
Cathie, seven years older, enticed her to join her
in the south for her next year of college. Always
a self-described wanderlust at heart, Gretchen
jumped at the chance and transferred to LSU. After
another year she transferred to Baylor School of
Nursing in Dallas, where she served as President of
her freshman class. While there, in addition to
learning hard subjects like Anatomy and Physiology,
she remembers learning the skill of making beds and
being tested on how tight she could make the sheets!
She met her husband, Jack London, in February 1948 -
he was visiting his Uncle Chris in the hospital in
Dallas, and Gretchen was his uncles (student)
nurse. Jack had an immediate interest in Gretchen,
asking her out for that night; she said she would be
going to Lakewood Baptist Church, and he was welcome
to join her, so he did! The rest is history she
graduated from Baylor in May 1949; they married in
Beaumont, Texas in December 1949; and Jack graduated
from Texas A&M University/College Station in January
1950. They travelled to Wisconsin for their
honeymoon so Jack could get Gretchens dads
approval for their marriage that had already taken
place!
Gretchen and Jack began married life in Karnes City,
then moved to Rockdale, then Kaufman, and finally
settled in Corsicana, Texas, beginning in 1958. Jack
died in May 2008 and Gretchen moved to Katy in 2012
to be closer to her children.
Living in Corsicana for 50-plus years, Gretchen
worked as an RN in the pediatricians office at
Medical Arts Clinic, seeing multiple generations
grow up in Corsicana. She ended her nursing career
working in the Navarro County Health Department,
giving immunizations to more generations of
Corsicana children.
Gretchen has been an avid baker, bridge-player,
walker, and Texas A&M supporter. She was an active
member of First United Methodist Church in
Corsicana, serving in many ministries, such as
chancel choir, UMW, Meals on Wheels, Bazaar, and
Sunday School teacher. Upon moving to Katy, she
transferred her membership to Grace Fellowship
Methodist Church.
Gretchen is survived by her three children, Cheryl
and husband Greg Skinner, Stephen and wife Jann
London, and Melanie and husband Mike Fossum;
grandchildren, Brittney (and Casey) Campbell, Paige
Skinner, Mylea (and Noah) Johnson, Bryce (and
Rachel) London, Carrie (and Jonathan) Braun,
Mitchell (and Emily) Fossum, John Fossum and Amy
Sproul, and Kenny Fossum; her 15
great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and
their spouses; and friends too numerous to count.
Gretchen is preceded in death by her husband, Jack
London, a sister, Catherine Williams, and her
husband, Lee A. Williams; a brother, Delton Bruins;
a brother Lowell Bruins, and his wife Marge; and her
parents, John H. and Henrietta Bruins.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks
to the staff of Atria Cinco Ranch Katy, Light Heart
Memory Care-Clear Lake, and Spectrum Hospice for
their compassionate care and support.
There will be a graveside service in
Oakwood
Cemetery.
in Corsicana at 11:00 on Saturday, June 7. A
luncheon will follow in Martin Hall at First
Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions
in her memory may be made to First Methodist Church
Corsicana. |

Billy Jonathan Batton
Dec 14, 1967 - May 6, 2025
Billy
Jonathan Batton, known affectionately to all as
Jonathan, was born on December 14, 1967, in the
small town of Corsicana, Texas. On the 6th of May,
2025, Jonathan was unexpectedly called home to be
with the Lord in the very town where his earthly
journey began. Jonathan was a man of deep faith,
whose kind and friendly nature was a testament to
the love he carried in his heart. A true son of
Corsicana, he walked among us always ready with a
quick smile and a "how's it going?" Jonathan's
outgoing, talkative nature meant no dull moment in
any conversation.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his immediate
familyhis father and mother, Bill and Jane, and his
sister, Lisa. He is survived by his former wife,
Amanda Padgett; children Harper and Brooks; his aunt
Barbara Cartwright; his aunt and uncle, Nancy and
Phil Hawk; and a host of cousins and special friends
whose lives he touched in countless ways.
Jonathan's education began at Corsicana schools,
where he attended from kindergarten through
graduation. After some time at Navarro College,
Jonathan lent his skills to Exxon-Mobil, where many
lasting friendships were formed over 15 years. He
later served as an internet/fleet manager for Ford
Motor Company for many years, where his passion for
super duty trucks was not just part of his job, but
a personal joy. He had a little boy-like enthusiasm
for big trucks and heavy duty equipment.
Jonathan was a very talented professional drummer,
first rock then becoming a country drummer. He
played with many local DFW bands and loved playing
his drums. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of music
and musicians. But above all, Jonathan LOVED dogs,
especially his beloved Max and Charley. His face
would light up at the sight of any canine companion,
and his gentle way with animals was a true
reflection of his soul. He often said if he had the
money, he would open up a dog rescue. Max and
Charley were surely eagerly awaiting Jonathan at the
Rainbow Bridge!
Jonathan had a lot of problems and endured much
suffering in the last years of his life. Multiple
medical conditions, including severe diabetes,
alcoholism and mental health issues tormented
Jonathan. As a man of prayer, Jonathan found comfort
in the Lord. As we say farewell to Jonathan, let us
remember the good times of his life, his laughter,
the beat of his drum and his smile. Jonathans
journey on this earth has come to an end, but his
spirit lives on. Let us give thanks for the time we
were blessed to share with him, and let us rejoice
in the knowledge that he is whole and healthy again,
no longer suffering and has found peace in the arms
of our Heavenly Father.
We will miss you, Jonathan...and until we meet
again, rest in eternal peace. See you on the other
side, brother.
Memorial service for Jonathan will be at First
Methodist Church in Corsicana on May 22, 2025 at
2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please take a bag of
dog food or toys to your local animal rescue. |

Nov 17, 1950 - June 21, 2025
Temple,
Texas - Deborah Kay Lindsey Melton, wife, mother,
homemaker, prayer warrior and friend, passed away on
June 21, 2025. Debbie was born on November 17, 1950,
in San Antonio, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. James "Jim"
Lindsey. After graduating as the A&M Consolidated
High School in College Station in 1969, she attended
Texas A&M University, graduating with a bachelor's

where they sank roots in the community they call
home. Along the way and over the thousands of miles,
she helped raise two sets of twin boys.

sons and her husband through serving others and
seldom asking for anything or doing anything for
herself. She was a friend to everyone who met her,
and a true prayer warrior, who devoted herself to
praying for others and writing cards and letters to
friends, relatives, and other loved ones each
morning before she went about the rest of her day.
Even as her health began failing Debbie Melton made
home a safe place of refuge for her husband and her
sons when they returned home to visit. Homecooked
meals were always on the table, and when her boys
were away, she sent them care packages filled with
cookies and other baked goodies.
Debbie loved her many colorful hats, which she
proudly wore as she hugged everyone she met, friend
and stranger alike. She never met a stranger, and

had a heart of gold and loved them just as they
were. Even with her last breath on Earth, her family
