resident died Sunday in Mason.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Davis Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. Jarvis Philpot officiating.
Graveside services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the
Rose Hill
Cemetery in Blooming Grove.
Born in Waxahachie, he moved to Georgetown in 1987. He was a
division traffic manager for the Anderson-Clayton Co. for 38
years.
A member of the Crestview Baptist Church, he was a member of
the Dallas-Love Field Masonic Lodge and a U. S. Army veteran
of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Billy Johnson Tipps of
Georgetown; a son, Gene Tipps of Georgetown, a daughter,
Elaine Sword of Wylie; his mother Elizabeth Tipps of Cedar
Creek; two sisters, Evelyn Bracken of Dallas and Ann Kinser
of Cedar Creek; a brother, Russell Tipps of Dallas; and
three grandchildren.
Memorial may be made to the Crestview Baptist Church.

hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was
born in Williamson, Ga. and had been a resident of Athens
for 25 years, having formerly resided at Kerens. Mrs. Reed
was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kerens.
Survivors
include two sons, C. L. Reed of Waco and Otha Reed of
Austin; three step-sons, Ben Reed of Dallas, Shelby Hicks
of Corsicana and Warren Hicks of Houston; one
step-daughter, Mrs. Lulie Lewis of Vernon; one daughter,
Mrs. Kathleen Cartlidge of Athens, five grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren.

home. He was 73.

Mr.
Russell was born in Barry and had lived in Grand Prairie
since 1948.
He worked
for Vought for 30 years before his retirement and later
worked for Allstar Security for 10 years.
Mr.
Russell was a Marine Corps veteran of
World War II and
served in the battles of Guam, Okinawa and Guadalcanal.
Survivors- Wife of 47 years, Martha Campbell Russell of
Grand Prairie; three daughters, Gail Pack of McKinney,
Elaine McCulloch of Arlington and Susan Smith of Grand
Prairie; two brothers, Ray Russell of Hawaii and John

John A.
Roberts Sr., 81, a former Corpus Christi resident, died in a
Huntsville nursing home Friday night after a long illness.
Roberts, a
local resident from 1939 until he moved to Huntsville to
live with a daughter in 1964 after becoming ill, was the
father of Johnny Roberts Jr., Nueces County justice of the
peace. He had been an insurance man.
Roberts, a
native of Blooming Grove, was formerly mayor of Goose Creek,
now part of Baytown. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 497,
AF & AM, in Blooming Grove, and the Scottish Rite, and the
Shrine Club in Houston. He was a member of the Presbyterian
Church.
Funeral
services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Huntsville. Masonic
graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow in
Blooming Grove.
In
addition to his son, survivors include two daughters, Mrs.
B. K. Jones of Huntsville and Mrs. Joseph Henry of Chicago,
Ill.; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Eva Whorton Robertson of Waco died Friday at a local
nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2-30 p.m. today at Waco
Memorial Park, Dr. William P. Boyd officiating.
Mrs. Robertson was born in Blooming Grove. She graduated
from Blooming Grove High School and attended North Texas
State University and Southwest Texas State University. She
taught school in Frost, Graham, Albany and Kerens. She
married Albert Louis Robertson on May 16, 1924, in Abilene;
he died Feb. 18, 1970. She was a member of Disciples of
Christ Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. James B. (Virginia R.)
Yarbrough of Houston and Mrs. Carl L. (Jane R.) Carpenter of
Waco; a son, James W. Robertson of Dallas; a sister, Mrs.
Madie Curb of Waco; a brother, William O. Whorton of Tahoka;
six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ex-Mayor Pro Tem J. M. "Ben" Daniel dies
J. M. "Ben" Daniel of 1605 Woodland Drive in Bryan
died Tuesday in a local hospital, two days after his
83rd birthday. Daniel served on the Bryan City
Commission from 1853 till 1957, and was mayor protem
from 1955 to 1957.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hillier Funeral
Chapel with Dr. Richard Maples officiating. Burial
will be in Bryan City Cemetery.
Daniel born in Blooming Grove, had lived in Bryan 50
years. He was owner of Western Auto in Bryan for 38
years, and was a member of First Baptist Church, and
of the Business Men's Bible Class.
Daniel had been active in several civic
organizations in Bryan, including the Cub Scouts and
Boy Scouts. He had served as president of Bryan
Lions Club, zone chairman, and deputy district
governor of Lions Club.
Daniel served two terms on the Bryan Chamber of
Commerce Board of Directors, on Bryan City
Commission 1953-57, and as chairman of the Draft
Board No. 13 of Bryan and Grimes County from
1948-1966. He helped rewrite the Charter of Bryan.
Daniel was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bryan,
of Order of Eastern Star Bryan Chapter No. 222, and
of Arabia Temple Shrine in Houston.
Survivors include his wife, Lola M. Daniel of Bryan;
two sons, Eddie Daniel of Houston and Tommie Daniel
of Cleveland; two brothers, Roy Daniel of Corsicana
and Leland Daniel of Barry; two sisters, Louise
Yates of Blooming Grove and Grace Wilson of
Pasadena; and two grandchildren. Sally Daniel of
Cleveland is his daughter-in-law. |

Massengale, 56, in the First Baptist Church in
Gordonville, Grayson County with interment in

He died Tuesday in Dallas. Owner and operator of the
Persian Cleaning Company for the last 30 years, he
was born in Blooming Grove, Navarro County.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, David Massengale

Grove. The body will remain at Craig Funeral Home in Tyler
until Tuesday morning. Mrs. Baker died Sunday night in a
Tyler hospital following a brief illness.
She had been a resident of Tyler for one year and moved from
Dallas to Tyler. Mrs. Baker was a retired interior decorator
for Sanger-Harris in Dallas.
Her survivors include a son, Gaston Owen of Dallas; two
daughters, Mrs. Josephine Halliday of Tyler and Mrs. Billie
Jean Reeves of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Ben Phillips of
Fort Worth; one sister, Mrs. Louie Price of Arlington; 12
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Douglas Cocharn Obituary
Jon Douglas Cochran, a beloved figure in Emhouse,
Texas, passed away on March 25th, 2025, at the age
of 62. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Douglas Cochran and Jan Cross, and his son, Jon
Anthony Cochran. His passing has left behind a void
in the lives of his children, Michael Cochran, Shawn
Cochran, Jason Cochran, Krista Carlson, Valerie
Cochran, Josue, Caceres, David Cochran, Taylor
Cochran, Angela Cochran, Miram Carbajal, and their
families. His sister, Janice Sugart, also mourns his
loss.
Jon's life was marked by hard work and dedication.
Leaving school in the 9th grade to support his
family, he demonstrated remarkable intelligence
despite the limited education he received.
Throughout his career as a tower technician,
including constructing the tower behind the iconic
Hollywood sign. Along the way he formed many
lifelong friendships.
A true working man, John spent most of his time away
from home but never failed to express his pride in
his children. His passion for the Dallas Cowboys was
unwavering, and he would never miss a game if he
could. Jon's culinary talents were evident in his
love for smoking brisket and ribs, which he would
happily share with his family and friends. He was
known for his warm hospitality, always keeping his
home open to anyone in need of shelter.

Texas. She was the widow of the late William Z. Corbin. Mrs.
Corbin had been associated with the Texas Christian

Clyde was born August 1, 1931, in Cedar Hill, TX, to
Wiley Major Crenshaw and Johnny Kathrine Glass
Crenshaw.
He graduated from Duncanville High School. He worked
for the Dallas Fire Department for 26 years and
achieved the rank of Lieutenant. He was a veteran of
the Korean War and served in the Army.
He married Joretta Joyce Berly. He was a member of
the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department,
Blooming Grove Masonic Lodge # 497, member of the
Karem Shrine.
Clyde is preceded in death by his parents, his wife
Joretta Joyce Crenshaw, brother Riley Leon Crenshaw,
sisters Mary Kate Boshers, and Gladis Ellen Hughes.
Clyde is survived by son Ricki Clyde Crenshaw and
wife Jennilyn, brother Wiley Major Crenshaw, Jr. and
wife Earlene, granddaughter Emily Marshall and
husband Chad, great grandson Logan Marshall, and
several extended family members.
Pallbearers will be Zane Nicholson, Brandon
Nicholson, Dusty Ledbetter, Glynn Saunders, Charles
Warren, and Ronald Lynch.
Memorials may be given to Blooming Grove Volunteer
Fire Department.

J. S. CRISP DIES SUDDENLY IN GREENVILLE
James S. Crisp, 65, of this city, died suddenly about 12-30
p.m. Thursday, May 22nd, after suffering a heart attack
while visiting in the home of his brother, J. W. Crisp, Walk
City Drive, Greenville, Texas.
He was born Aug. 7, 1892, in Leon County, the son of James
S. Crisp and Ellen Butter Crisp.
He had been a member of the Baptist Church in Blooming
Grove, Texas for the past forty years, and was a deacon at
the time of his death.
Funeral services were conducted at 10-30 a.m. Saturday
morning at the Reavilon Baptist Church with the pastor, the
Rev. G. B. Bailey, conducting the services. Burial was in
the
Rose Hill
Cemetery in Blooming Grove, Saturday afternoon at 3
p.m. under the direction of James-Cooker-Peters Funeral Home
of Greenville.
The Rev. J. C. Shirley officiated at the graveside services.

William Futch was born June 23, 1940, in Corsicana. He was
with Jack Cooper Transports for 27 years and was formerly
with Miller Trucking for seven years. He served in the U. S.
Army during the mid-1960s. He was a member of First Baptist
Church of Godley and Teamsters Local No. 745. He was devoted
to his family, especially his granddaughter. He was a
wonderful husband, father and PawPaw. He enjoyed helping
people.
He was preceded in death by his father, Barney Futch, in
1990; and a brother, Roy Dean Futch, in 1966.
Survivors- Wife, Peggy Futch of Godley; sons, Darren
Springer of Lake Tahoe, Nev., and Matthew Futch of Godley;
daughters, Michelle Woods of Washington, D.C., and Dana
Harjo and her husband, Carl, of Fort Worth; mother, Lucille
Futch of Ponder; brothers, Floyd Futch and his wife,
Hannemarie, of Colleyville and Wayne Futch and his wife,
