Located in southeastern Navarro County Texas. Most of the early
settlers came from Wadeville and the surrounding community The McClungs, Cherrys,
Daniels, Jennings, Melears, Nobles, Coates, Reeses, Stocktons, Ingrams,
McConnicos, Kimes and Prices all have descendents living in Kerens today. For
many years the Joplin-Jennings mercantile building was a landmark, although
vacant. until destroyed by fire in recent years. Kerens was the first home of
"Big Tex" who now greets visitors at the Texas State Fair; however, he
was a giant Santa Claus when he lived in Kerens.
