WOLFFORTH (Special) - Funeral services for W. W. ''Bill'' Prestidge, 75, of Wolfforth will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Wolfforth First Baptist Church, with
the Rev. Mark McMillan officiating.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Seagraves Cemetery under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Prestidge died Friday in the University Medical Center following an illness.
He was born April 6, 1921, in Keechi, and he graduated from the Corsicana State Home High School. He attended Sam Houston College. He moved from Corsicana to
Lubbock County in 1954.
He married the former Ruby Moore Billings in 1959 in Fairfield. She died Jan. 14, 1993. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wolfforth. He was a former
mayor of Wolfforth and City Council member. He was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was a veteran of World War II,
serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was wounded in an air raid over Germany while serving as a tail gunner on a bomber.
He worked for many years for the Tech Press before he retired.
Survivors include three sons, Walter, Tommy and Alton Billings, all of Seagraves; his sister, Esther Mills of Waco; eight grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Lubbock.

Navarro Regional Hospital.

703 E. Fifth Ave., with Elder Tommy Bowens officiating. Interment will follow at
Woodland Memorial Park.

Derwin G. and Debra Price, and LaJuan D. and Robbie Price, all of Corsicana;
aunts and husbands, Evelyn and James Garrett of Dallas and Minnie L. and J. B.

Prentice Priddy, 86, of Dawson passed away Friday, June 15, 2001 at a
Corsicana nursing center.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Wade Funeral Home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Dawson with
the Rev. David Fergeson officiating. Interment will follow at
Dawson Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Mr. Priddy was born May 20, 1915 in Dawson and lived most of his life in the
Dawson area. He married Inez Frances Bailey Dec. 8, 1935 in Hubbard. Mr. Priddy
had worked as a ward clerk at the Mexia State School and was a member of First
United Methodist Church of Dawson. He was a lay speaker for the Methodist church
and taught Sunday school in the men's Bible class for many years. He was also a
farmer and enjoyed fishing and storytelling.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Inez Bailey Priddy in November
1997; son, David Priddy in 1951; and brother, Hershel Priddy in February 1997.
Mr. Priddy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Harold Gatlin of
Irving; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Martha bPriddy of Gainesville, Wayne
and Betty Priddy of Euless, William Priddy of Grand Prairie, Dennis and Doris
Priddy of Powell and Terry and Peggy Priddy of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren and
16 great-grandchildren.

Juanita Stovall Pridgeon, 96, of Waco passed away Monday, June 11, 2001.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Temple with
the Rev. Tom Robbins officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in
Hubbard.
Mrs. Pridgeon was born April 2, 1905 in Prairie Hill, Limestone County, to James
Granville Stovall and Loretta Wayland Stovall. Her family moved to Waco in 1918.
She was a 1922 graduate of Waco High School and received a bachelor's degree in
secondary education from Baylor University in 1926. Mrs. Pridgeon was a math
teacher at Riesel High School prior to her marriage to Theron O. Pridgeon. They
moved to Lockhart and then to Temple in 1946. Mr. Pridgeon was a soil and water
conservationist with the USDA. Mrs. Pridgeon assisted her husband and son in the
management of the T/J Ranch near Temple which produced registered Polled
Hereford cattle and racing quarter horses.
She taught school in Temple from 1960 to 1969 when she retired. Mr. and Mrs.
Pridgeon moved to Waco in 1969 to be near her family.
She was a member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church of Waco and former
member of First United Methodist Church of Temple. She was a member of the
Guardian Angel Group of Armstrong Browning Library at Baylor University. Mrs.
Pridgeon was also a member of the Betty Martin Chapter of the Daughters of the
American Revolution in Temple and the Sterling C. Robinson Chapter of the
Daughters of the Republic of Texas in Waco. She was a charter member of the
Temple Book Review Club and the Fano Club of Baylor University.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; and son, James in 1994.
Survivors include her daughters, Jane Pridgeon Fortner of Waco and Judith
Pridgeon Eidson of Temple; grandchildren, Cynthia Fortner Bennett of Houston,
John M. Fortner of Dallas, Rebecca Leigh Fortner of Dallas, Margaret Eidson
Riedlinger of Weatherford and Melissa Jane Eidson of New York; and seven
great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Methodist Children's Home in
Waco.

Dubart M. Prince, 79, of Beaumont and a native of Corsicana, passed away
Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. He was a retired salesman and pipefitter and a veteran
of World War II.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn
Funeral Home Chapel in Beaumont. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial
Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Addie McDonald Prince and Elmer Prince;
and two brothers, William N. Prince of Belle Chase, La. and Robert R. Prince of
Malakoff.

He was the husband of Iris Prince; father of Jan Jacobs of Bridge City, Texas,
and Camille Schoolcraft of Houston, Texas; stepfather of Gayle Ramin;
and brother of Jester Prince of Oklahoma City, Okla., Ernest Prince of Golden
Meadow and Frances Anderson Fortson of Rice, Texas. He is also survived by three
grandchildren.

Mr. Prnka is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathy Prnka of Trinidad; father,
Joseph V. Prnka of West; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Rodney and Shonda
Prnka of Trinidad, Ryan Prnka of Kountz and Justin Prnka of Trinidad; two
sisters, Blanche Gorby of Brookville, Pa. and Louise Prnka of Dallas; one

Funeral services were to be at 2:p.m. today at Griffin Funeral Chapel for Tony
Maurice Pryor, 14, who died Wednesday night. A Morman Church minister, President
Edward White, was to officiate with burial to follow in the
Pursley Cemetery.
Pallbearers were to be Tommy Pryor, Jerry Newman, Greg Caton, Johnny Moreau,
Danny Thomas and Eddie Sherrard.
A seventh-grade student at Drane Middle School, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs.

Mrs. Ethel Pryor, 77, former resident of Navarro county, died in Wichita Falls
Wednesday morning. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the
Corley Chapel with burial in the Hamilton cemetery. Surviving are two sons, F.
H. Pryor, Beaumont, and M. T. Pryor, San Antonio; two daughters, Mrs. A. M.

He was a retired carpenter.

FORT WORTH -- Inez Laverne Raglin, a homemaker, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in
Corsicana.

1050 E. Humbolt St. Burial: Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 1 to 6:30 p.m.
Friday. Wake: 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.
She was born in Marlin, eldest child of Ira and Lena Maxwell Hughes. She was a
graduate of Pelham High School and a former member of Wesley Chapel AME church
in Pelham, and later, Waites Chapel in Hillsboro. She married Jesse Raglin Oct.
23, 1943. They shared 56 beautiful years of life and love together. After moving
here, she was a member of Baker Chapel AME Church, and served in the Progressive
Club, Rosia Steverson Bible Class of the Sunday School and Blance Ceasar Unit of
the Missionary Society.
Inez was the unofficial "Mama" of the Hughes and Raglin branches of her family,
and loved caring for every member. She was an excellent hostess and cook, and on
her final day of life was preparing her legendary pies for the annual Pelham
Homecoming. She was a loving mother and doting grandmother, a devoted daughter
and sister and will always be remembered for ner sweet disposition and lovely
character.

daughter, Evonne Raglin; brothers, Cleveland Hughes and Merle of Hillsboro;

Mrs. Rains was born Nov. 8, 1914 in Dialville. She graduated from Corsicana High
School and attended one year at North Texas Teachers College. She lived in Rusk
from 1969 to 1979, moving to Ennis in 1979 until 1995 when she moved to Tyler.
She was a Methodist and a 60-year member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lindel Rains; and parents, Jim
and Polly Causey.
Mrs. Rains is survived by one niece and several cousins.

Mrs. Rainwater was born on July 23, 1908 in Honeygrove. She was a former
Corsicana resident. She was a member of the Fielder Road Baptist Church and LLL
Club at Fielder Road. She received a B.B.A. in education from Mary Hardin Baylor
and taught school at Vernon High School, Oklaunion, Harrold and Northside. She
was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 51 in Vernon and the past president
of the Texas Rural Carrier Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Compton Rainwater in 1993 after 60
years of marriage; parents, L.N. "Doc" and Belle Rutland; and brothers, Leslie,
Raymond and Olan Rutland.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane Ann Wilson and husband Larry of Chandler;
sons, James "Jim" Rainwater and wife Marge of Abilene and Richard Rainwater and
wife Jo Ann of Houston; sister, Ruby Ballweg and husband Henry of Webb; seven
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews and two cousins.

Argie Raney, 85, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2001 in Ennis.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Keever Chapel with Brother Chuck Barber and
Edwin Lipsey officiating. Interment will follow at Elm Branch Cemetery in
Bardwell.
Mr. Raney was born Sept. 6, 1915 in Bardwell to Aaron and Carrie Bates Raney. He
was raised in Bardwell and attended Bardwell and Laneview schools. On July 19,
1939 he married Orine Harcrow of Ennis. After their marriage they lived in
Corsicana. In 1957 they moved to Garrett. He was employed at the water
department for the City of Ennis. He was later the yard manager for the Ennis
Auction Barn. He then started working for Flintkote Roofing in Ennis from which
he retired in 1980. He was a member of the Jesus Name Pentecostal Church.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Troy, Raymond, Joe, Shelby and Glen;
and sister, Alta Shelton.
Mr. Raney is survived by his wife, Orine Raney of Ennis; sons and
daughters-in-law, Delbert and Terry Raney, Jimmy and Lois Raney and Winston and
Barbara Raney, all of Ennis, and Ray and Janette Raney of Rice; daughters,
Bobbie Cheek of Rice, Darlene Richardson, Alice Lewis and husband Roy and Nelda
Lewis and husband Jimmy, all of Ennis; 29 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren
and six great-great-grandchildren.

Alfred Henry Rawlins
A. H. "Red' Rawlins
Major Alfred Henry "Red" Rawlins (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Ret.), passed
away Tuesday, June 12, 2001 in Rockdale.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in
Rockdale. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 4 p.m. Friday
at Kerens City Cemetery.
Mr. Rawlins was a 43-year employee of Lone Star Producing Company and spent many
years in the East Texas area, including Chapel Hill and Kerens. He was the NIPAC
fertilizer plant manager and resided in Kerens for 33 years. He was also a
professional "Aggie" having earned his commission in the U.S. Army and a degree
in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M College in 1931.
Mr. Rawlins was an individual who lived history and had his life intertwined
with famous people in history. Prior to the war, he met Amelia Earhart during
one of her tours promoting the gyro-copter technology. He served during
World War II as a captain in the
Corps of Engineers on Omaha for three months to ensure men and material moved
onto the beach and inland swiftly. It was during this duty he came face to face
with General Omar Bradley and shook his hand. Later in the war, his company was
assigned to the "Red Ball Express" ferrying fuel to General George Patton during
the Battle of the Bulge, and again a personal meeting. At war's end, Mr. Rawlins
served as a military governor overseeing the rebuilding of the utilities needed
for sanitation and communication in both Bonn and Ausburg, Germany, remaining on
active duty for six months after war's end.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Mary Virginia "Ginny" Luker
Rawlins.
Mr. Rawlins is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ben Goins
III of Benbrook, Michelle and James Earley of Rockdale and Debra and Jeff
Friedman of Katy; grandchildren, Kimberly Knights and husband Billy, David
Carney, Dennis Earley and wife Melanie, Damon Early, and Chase, Rachel and
Michaela Friedman; sister, Dorothy Cornelius of Slidell, La.; sister-in-law,
Marilyn Streetman of Spring; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

FORT WORTH -- Paris G. Reece Jr., 77, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, after a
brief illness.

Paris was a member of Wedgwood Baptist Church. He was a deacon and active in
many areas of church ministry up until the time of his death. He and Bettye
enjoyed fellowshipping with the Glory Road Couples. Paris spent many wonderful
hours walking and fishing with his buddies, Chuck and Dee.
Paris loved and was deeply loved by his family and a multitude of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paris G. and Eliza; brothers, R.D. and
Billy Joe; and sister, Vera Lee Guest.

LONGMONT, COLO. -- Zenada H. Ford Reed, 90, formerly of Arlington, passed away
Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Longmont.

Rev. G. W. French of First United Methodist Church of Arlington will officiate.
Mrs. Reed was born June 3, 1910, in Bell County, Texas, to Oscar and Clara King
Huckabee. In 1928, she married the Rev. John Wesley Ford in Holland, Texas. They
resided in Arlington, where the Rev. Ford was minister of First United Methodist
Church from 1950 to 1953. He preceded her in death in 1970.
In 1980, she married J. E. Reed Sr. in Corsicana. They resided in Madisonville
from 1975 to 1996. Mr. Reed preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Reed was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of
Madisonville.
Survivors: Daughters, Claire Fairchild and husband, William, of Longmont, Colo.,
and Barbara Mebus of Taos, N.M.; stepsons, J. E. Reed Jr., M.D., and wife, Paula,

James Bruce Reed Sr., 85, of Waco, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 in Waco.

He was born Dec. 15, 1915 in Hubbard City. He was raised in Hubbard City but had
been a resident of Waco for the the past 23 years and was a Methodist. Prior to
that, he had lived in Houston for 25 years where he had owned and operated an
aircraft maintenance business.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Lou Reed of Waco; son, James Bruce Reed Jr.
of Modesto, Calif.; stepsons, Mike Kelly of China Spring, Jerry Kelly of
Speegleville, Sidney Kelly of Waco and Larry Tadjock of Aquilla; 14

He loved his family and friends and was a caregiver to others.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Edna Shelton Reed.

He loved farming and especially liked cotton. He received Navarro County Farmer
of the Year Award in 1970. He was a member of the Masonic lodge for over 50
years, and for 40 years was a substitute mail carrier on the Barry rural route.
He was a lifelong member of Barry Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Reed; and brothers,
Chick and Leone Reed.
Mr. Reed is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years,

from the Kemp Independent School District and was an active member in

in death.

2000 at her residence.

Mrs. Reed was born June 20, 1940 in Corsicana to Robert and Evelyn Nelson. She
lived in Dallas 30 years before returning to Corsicana in 1992. She was a member
of Wesley United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star of Corsicana
Chapter No. 118. She was very devoted to her husband, children and
grandchildren. She also loved animals and will always be loved for her strong
and colorful character. Christmas was her favorite time of the year and she
enjoyed passing out toys to families in need.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carole Nelson Spicer.
Mrs. Reed was survived by her husband, Charles Don Reed of Corsicana; sons Rick
Reed of Corsicana and Robert Reed of Dallas; daughter-in-law of Marietta Reed of

 Brenda West Renfro, 49, of Fort Worth passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 after a
four-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mrs. Renfro was born Nov. 11, 1951 in Kerens, and graduated from
Kerens High
School in 1970. She graduated from Texas Christian University with a bachelor of
arts degree and a master of business administration degree. Subsequently, she
returned to TCU to teach on an adjunct basis in the M. J. Neeley School of
Business.
She began her business career at A. Brandt Co. in Fort Worth. She then worked
for Ametek and Computalog before moving to Harbison-Fischer, where she was vice
president.
Mrs. Renfro was a member of the Society of Human Resource Management and past
president of the Fort Worth chapter. She was a founding member of the Texas
state SHRM council. She was an officer for the local Texas Association for
Business and several state committees. A member of the Frog Club, she enjoyed
TCU sports and supporting her alma mater. She was a member of University Baptist
Church, where she was also a deacon. She served as chairman of the finance
committee, stewardship committee and music committee. An accomplished pianist,
she was accompanist for the young musicians choir and assistant sanctuary
pianist.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Paula Ann Renfro; and father, Paul E.
West.
Mrs. Renfro is survived by her husband 26 years, Art Renfro of Fort Worth;
daughters, Christie Renfro and Cheryl Renfro, both of Fort Worth; mother, Willie
Dean West of Kerens; sisters, Betty Joyce McCain of Angus, Kitty Lois Ellis and
husband Monk of Mount Pleasant and Paula Brenneman and husband Mike of
Washington, D.C.; brother, Sammy West and wife Rita of Kerens; aunts, Ida Gunn

Mr. Reynolds was born July 22, 1933 in Ellis County, the son of George O. and
Florence Cline Reynolds. He was raised in Ellis County, and later moved to
Irving, Dallas and Henderson County. In 1993, he moved to Cumby. He was in the
service business for heating and air conditioning all of his career, retiring in
1988.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Joe Reynolds in 1955.
Mr. Reynolds is survived by his mother, Florence Reynolds of Seven Points; sons,
Larry Reynolds of Bridgeport, James Reynolds of Corsicana, George Reynolds III
of Athens and Marvin Reynolds of Irving; daughter, Julie Fae Reynolds of Irving;
sister, Ann Miller of Kemp; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Ridling
Last Sunday Mrs. Annie, wife of W. W. Ridling died at the family residence in
this city. she had been very low for some weeks and her death was no unexpected.
For three years she has been suffering from consumption and had been confined to
her room a great deal of the time.
On Monday morning the remains were interred at the Willow Wild cemetery. The
funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Black of the Methodist church.
Mrs. Ridling's maiden name was Annie McMullen. She was married to Mr. Ridling at
Corsicana but she had lived in this county a number of years. She was about 32
years of age. She was a good, Christian woman. For years she was a member of the
Methodist church but last year with her husband she united with the First
Baptist church in this city. She was faithful to her duties. She was tender as a
mother, loving and faithful as a wife and her 5 little children and her husband
have suffered a loss that is irreparable. Friends sympathize with them but
sympathy can not soothe the grief as theirs. Mrs. Ridling's death was the 3rd in
her family within a year, her mother and sister having preceded her to the grave
but a few months.

The fourth of 17 children, Beatrice was born October 25, 1910, in Corsicana,
Texas, to the late Marcus and Candida Trevino Acosta. She married Simon Rios in
1932, and he preceded her in death on April 28, 1985. Also preceding her in
death were eight brothers and one sister. Mrs. Rios was a homemaker and a member
of Ebeneezer Mexican Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons Gilbert Rios of Wichita Falls and Simon Rios, Jr. of
Kerrville; daughter Ruth Deese of Wichita Falls; brothers Furman Acosta and
Earnest Acosta, both of Long Beach, California, Marcus Acosta of Everman, Texas,

Miss Robinson was born July 22, 1905 in Dresden to Elmer Bose and Huldah Hodges
Robinson. Her first job was teaching in Dresden. During summer breaks, she
attended college to complete her education. She started at Southwestern
University in Georgetown, then received her B.A. from Texas Tech in Lubbock and
her master's from Sul Ross in Alpine.
In the 1940s, she took a leave of absence from teaching to work in the White
Horse, Yukon Territory office of the historical Al-Can Highway. On completion of
that job, she worked in a San Francisco bank. Miss Robinson retired after 41
years of teaching in the Corsicana Independent School District with most of
those years at the old Drane Junior High School. She was a longtime member of
Westminster Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Billie Caldwell and Tucker
Robinson; and brother, Elmer Bose Robinson Jr.
Miss Robinson is survived by her sister, Beatrice R. George of Corsicana;
nieces, Marylina McGraw of Frost, Virginia Brackett of Lubbock, Adelaide Hall of
Dallas and Melissa O'Neal of Plano; 11 great-nieces and nephews; and six
great-great-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rockett was born March 23, 1923 in Melissa to Guy and Dora Porter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Rockett; parents; brothers,
William, Cecil and Travis Porter; and sisters, Elizabeth Graves and Erma Adney.
Mrs. Rockett is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Johnny Mac

Carl E. Rogers, 81, of Tyler passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2000 at a Tyler
hospital.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Lloyd James Funeral Chapel with Dr. Michael

Cathedral in the Pines.

Mr. Rogers was born Aug. 23, 1919 in Cherryvale, Kan. He had lived in Tyler
since 1976. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Tyler and taught the
Men's Fellowship Class for 15 years and was coordinator of LLL Senior Group. He
worked 35 years in oil refining management in Aruba, Kan. and Texas. He retired
in 1976 from Fina Oil and Chemical at Port Arthur. He was a graduate of the
University of Tulsa with a degree in petroleum engineering.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carla Carter; and brother, Harold
Rogers.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife, Jaunques Hollembeak Rogers of Tyler; sons,
Dr. Kent Rogers of Corsicana and Phil Rogers of Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.;
sister, Elsie Lowe of Topeka, Kan.; stepsister, Nelle Butts of San Diego,
Calif.; and grandchildren, Cyndi, Susie, Mark, Carl, Seth and Becky.

evening, September 15, 2001, at his home surrounded by his family and friends
after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be Wednesday,
September 19 at 10 a.m. at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard, Texas with Mr. Jerry
Rogers of New Mexico officiating. Interment will be at

Funeral Home. Stanley was born July 22, 1935 near Chickasha, Oklahoma and

Navarro Regional Hospital.

of Ross Brothers Honey Company. He worked with the Navarro County Sheriff's
Department and was a district court bailiff and grand jury bailiff until
retirement at age 90. He was a lifetime member of Westhill Church of Christ
where he served as deacon, elder and Bible class teacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Ross and Sarah Carmack Ross;
brothers, R. E. Ross, Ernest Ross and Clyde Ross; and sisters, Era Short and
Marie Grubbs.
Mr. Ross is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lea Ross of Corsicana; daughters
and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Bronny Watson of Corsicana, and Patti John McGlohen

Mr. Sammons is survived by his wife of 33 years, Shirley; sons and
daughters-in-law, Thomas W. III and Melody Sammons and Mark Allen and Dee Dee

She was born Feb. 6, 1911 in Abilene. She worked for many years as a nurse. She

Navarro Regional Hospital.

Mr. Sanchez was born July 29, 1981 in Jumiltepec, Mexico.

8/28 Man dies after lake accident

A 20-year-old Corsicana man died early Sunday morning after a day-long fight for
his life after a drowning accident at Navarro Mills Lake.
Israel Sanchez succumbed to injuries sustained after going into the lake
Saturday morning and disappearing under the surface for several minutes before
being located.
According to Navarro County Sheriff's Department reports, Israel Sanchez and his
brother David Sanchez had gone to Oak Park at the popular lake in the western
part of Navarro County just off of Farm-to-Market Road 667.
NCSO reports say that David Sanchez, through an interpreter, told NCSO Deputy
Scott Dyson that Isreal Sanchez consumed a couple of beers and went into the
water in the swimming area by himself.
A few minutes later, David Sanchez noticed that his brother was nowhere to be
seen. He began searching for his brother and sent another person to contact the
authorities.
Park ranger Alton Hurley located David Sanchez on the bottom of the lake in
about 5-1/2 feet of water.
Navarro Mills medical first responders and East Texas Medical Center EMS had
arrived at the park during the search. CPR was immediately administered and
Israel Sanchez was transported to Navarro Regional Hospital where doctors
regained a pulse and Sanchez was transferred to the intensive care unit where he
died early Sunday.

Mr. Sanders was born Dec. 10, 1915 in Dawson. He was a lifelong resident of
Dawson and a graduate of Dawson High School. He and Virginia Wallace were
married Aug. 8. 1936 in Corsicana. He was also a lifelong farmer and rancher in
the Dawson area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur C. and Mary Pullin Sanders; and
sisters, Frances Johnson, Mary Nell Davis and Arlene Linch.
Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife, Virginia Sanders of Dawson; son and
daughter-in-law, Tim and Sue Sanders of Dawson; grandsons, Jeff Sanders of

Charles G. Scruggs passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2001.

Mr. Scruggs was born Nov. 4, 1923 on a farm near McGregor to Adeline and John Scruggs. In 1943, he was called to active duty in Europe where he served during World War II in the infantry, and held the rank of lieutenant colonel in U.S.A.R.
He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1947 with a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics. In 1947, he joined the staff of Progressive Farmer magazine where he went on to become editor, then editor-in-chief. In 1984, he
co-founded Southern Living magazine and was promoted again to editorial chairman for Southern Progress Corporation.
A distinguished alumnus of Texas A&M, he served as a member of the board of
regents of Texas Tech University and TTU School of Medicine. A tireless advocate for agriculture, Mr. Scruggs served on the Texas FFA Foundation board of directors and was the founder and president of the Southwest Animal Health Research Foundation. An appointee of five Texas governors, he was also active in international agricultural affairs. He was appointed a member of the U.S.
delegation to meetings of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations in Rome.
Mr. Scruggs traveled and wrote about agriculture in Russia, Europe, Mexico, and Central and South America. For his leadership in all phases of U.S. and
international agriculture for over 50 years, he received numerous awards and was in wide demand as a speaker until his retirement at his ranch in Hubbard.
He was devoted to his loving wife Miriam June Wigley, whom he married in 1947. Their 54 years together were filled with active service to church and community. His integrity and wisdom earned the respect and admiration of all who knew him,
and his boundless love of his family was cherished.
He is survived by his wife June; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Marie; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Dale Fuller; grandchildren, Evan, Travis,
Graeme and Colin Scruggs and Kristin and T.J. Fuller; step grandchildren, Kyle Fuller and Pam Malar; and great-grandchildren, Bailey and Garret Malar and Kenedy Fuller.

she graduated from Waxahachie High School. Upon her marriage to Finis L. Seale, she moved to Corsicana, where she became very active in community and church activities. She served as president of the Robert E. Lee School PTA and later as president of the Corsicana City Council PTA. She was also instrumental in starting the Food for Fitness program and was the first woman elder at
Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Finis Seale; brother, James M. Carroll; and sisters, Janice Heine and Eloise Keiningham. Mrs. Seale is survived by her daughter, Mary Lois Seale of Corsicana; brother,

operated a tailor shop in Dawson. She operated a sewing room in Hubbard during World War II and also worked at the bomb plant in McGregor during the war. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hubbard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Duncan "Sheenie" Selby in 1978.
Mrs. Selby is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Janet Selby of Round Rock; granddaughters and husbands, Lisa and Mickey Walling of Austin and Laurie and Phillip Kuehner of Pflugerville; grandson and wife, Micheal and Katheryn Selby of Coppell; niece and husband, Ruth and Sam Odom of Hubbard; and four great-grandchildren.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Irving and the North Texas Callers Association. He was involved in square dance calling and dancing for 26 years, also a part of
the Brook Mays music program.

Saturday Rites For H. S. Percival
Funeral services for H. S. Percival, 68, retired butcher, 1024 South Twenty-Eighth street, were conducted at the Corley Chapel Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The rites were conducted by Rev. Riley E. Dale, pastor of the Missionary Baptist church. Burial was in Hamilton
cemetery.
Percival died early Friday at the Corsicana Hospital and Clinic.
Surviving are two sons, W. E. and H. R. Percival, both of Corsicana; a daughter, Mrs. D. O. Suitt, Midland; five grandchildren; a brother, C. M. Lomas, Redwood
City, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. W. A. McMillian, San Antonio, and other relatives.
