Words written by niece, Linda (Petty) Rothgeb:

Jimmie Dee (Burke) Powell was very well known for her association with The Cowboys. She never missed Spring Training Camp and was forever educating the sports newscasters at the TV stations in Corpus. She always caught their mistakes and called them up right away. They showered her with gifts in hopes she would always give them private information that she had. She did at one time call up Troy Aikman’s wife after an unlucky game and ask what Troy thought he was doing at that certain time in the game.

When she passed away her heart surgeon Dr. Paul Heath let the Cowboys Head Office in Dallas know as he was a personal friend of Jerry Jones. They sent a big spray of flowers with a teddy bear in a Cowboys helmet. She would have loved that.

Jimmie was born in Blooming Grove, Sep. 22 1928. She was married to Brince A Powell, Jr. He died July 11, 1978 here in Corpus and was buried in his family plot in Oakwood Cemetery-Corsicana, Tx. They had no children.
