Pauline Eidson

Pauline Eidson, 90, of Corsicana passed away Friday, May 31, 2002, in Corsicana.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 4, at 10 a.m. at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nancy Schusler officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery at 4 p.m. in Hamilton.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Corley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Eidson was born Dec. 5, 1911, in Adamsville. She was a housewife.

She passed away at The Twilight Home. Her heart gave out and she went to be with the Lord. She was a member of Central Methodist Church and worked as a pink lady for eight years in the old hospital. She was a member of Merak Temple No. 104 in Waco, Daughter of the Nile and Past Matron of Corsicana Chapter No. 118 Order of Eastern Star. She also loved to bowl.

Survivors include beloved friend, Wayne Mays of Lemon Grove, Calif.; daughter, Reta Patricia and Herman Gillen of Corsicana; sisters, Irene Sargent of Iowa Park, Ada Kalina of Solvang, Calif., Nada Sullivan of Granbury and Fay Oglesby of Hamilton; grandson and wife, Danny and Terri Gillen of Corsicana, granddaughters, Paula and Eric Trojack of Ennis and Rhetta Wasinger of Emhouse; great-granddaughters, Amie Gillen, Katie Gillen and Misty Gillen, all of Corsicana, and Amanda Crawford of Ennis; great-grandsons, Jeremy Crawford of Emhouse, Cody Trojacek of Ennis, Jacob Wasinger of Emhouse and Dalton Wasinger of Emhouse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Barnwell Rhett Eidson Jr.; son, Knighten Rhett Eidson; and grandson, Randy Gillen.

Honorary pallbearers will be C.A. Bid Sheets, Jim Howell, Lewis Mathison, Otis Dunagan, Dewy Gordon, Franklin Neal, Bill Harrison, the Rev. Kenneth Bass, Don Taylor, Carl Hall, Bob Kral, Zak Boyd and Leland Kattner.

Memorials may be made to Eastern Star Chapter No. 118, Central Methodist Church, or a charity of choice.

Clifton D. Anderson, 96, of Fairfield died June 1, 2002, in Corsicana.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Capps Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gilford Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairfield. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Capps Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Anderson was born Jan. 18, 1906, in Freestone County. He was a retired rancher and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Anderson, Link Anderson, Nicky Anderson and Andy Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Dodds, Bobby Rutherford, David Chapman, Billy Chapman and Glen White.

Survivors include his son, Harland and wife Carolyn Anderson of Bay City; grandchildren, Jeffrey and wife Tina of Fairfield, Keitha and husband David of Martinez, Ga., Link and wife Jamie Anderson of Van Vleck, Nicky and wife Trisha Anderson of Plano; great-grandchildren, Wendy, Crystal, and Billy Chapman, Brittany, Colton and Chloe Anderson and Erron, Elizabeth, Morgan, Cody and Zane Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Carrie Anderson; and wife, Ora Dee Anderson; an infant son; and an infant grandson.

Flora Mae 'Flo' Smith

Flora Mae "Flo" Smith, 81, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, in Corsicana.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dave Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of Sons of Confederate Veterans, Norman Stubbs, Roy Miller, Ron Matthews, Rob Jones, Forrest Green and R. C. Tatum. Honorary pallbearer will be Bill Stubbs.

Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 21, 1917 in Wheeler. She was an avid golfer and bridge player. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Otto Smith of Corsicana; daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Sherwin Goldman of Dallas and Shurley and Robert Thigpin of Midland; grandsons, John Mercer Kirton of Dallas and Brian A. Trent and wife Jessica of Lewisville; and great-grandsons, Davie Trent and Dawson Trent, both of Lewisville.

William Leon Seay, 75, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Southwood Nursing Home in Kerens.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today and Thursday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Graceland Mausoleum, with Brother Bill Honea and Jim Baggett officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Nokes, Elbert Turner, Kenneth Lillard, Jerry Winn, Carol Winn, Mike Wisdom and Bob Linquist.

Mr. Seay was born July 21, 1924 in Corsicana. He was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge for 40 years and worked for the State Highway Department for 36 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Seay Sr.; mother, Nora Seay; and brother, James A. Seay.

Mr. Seay is survived by his brother, Thomas J. Seay Jr. and wife Jo Ann of Austin; and sister, Marilou Seay Linquist and husband John A. of Corsicana.

Mrs. Finner was born Feb. 15, 1902 in Dawson.

Mrs. Finner is survived by several cousins including Sarah and Joe Sample, Bob Earl Smith, Martha Cherry and Willie Mae Lee, all of Dawson.

Wake services will be 7 p.m. today at Ross and Johnson Mortuary Chapel.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Kelly's Temple Church of God in Christ, with Elder Billy Joe Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at Chatfield Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

She was born Jan. 15, 1947 in Athens. She attended G. W. Jackson High School and was employed by Navarro Regional Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of Kelly's Temple Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Lisa Kelly and Chris Kelly, all of Corsicana; four grandchildren; mother, Lorraine Moss of Corsicana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert S. Mr. Wade was born Sept. 15, 1935 in Rice.

Marion E. Whitten, Colonel

Colonel Marion E. Whitten, 91, of Arlington, Va. died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at his residence.

Memorial services will be Thursday, Sept. 17 at Cherrydale Methodist Church in Arlington, Va. with burial at Arlington National Cemetery.

Col. Whitten was born January 1908 in Corsicana. He was a graduate of Corsicana High School and Texas A&M. He was a chemical officer of the Third Armored Division of the U.S. Army. After being discharged from the Army in 1946, he became employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in cotton seed and soybean research.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Reed Whitten; parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Whitten; brother, Robert Whitten; and sister, Catherine Fikes.

Col. Whitten is survived by his wife, Neva Frost Allen Whitten of Arlington, Va.; son, William Reed Whitten and wife Judy of Raleigh, N.C. and Robert Marion Whitten and wife Mary of San Francisco, Calif.; daughters, Mary Kathleen Clements and husband James of Arlington, Va. and Anne Whitten of Arlington, Va.; sister, Anne Dill of Corsicana; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Swindell was born March 11, 1912 in Dresden. She was a member of the Church of Christ since 1939 or 1940.

Mrs. Swindell is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Jerry Tramel of Corsicana; sister, Jewel Workman of Amarillo; half-brother, Willis Offill of Howe; and 19 nieces and nephews.

Mr. Prater was born Sept. 30, 1913 in Frost. He was a very well recognized carpenter and custom cabinet builder of over 50 years in Navarro County.

Mr. Prater is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Vicky Prater and Jim L. and Judy Prater, all of Corsicana; sisters, Evilyn Peel of Houston and Juanita Stevenson of Diamond Bar, Calif.; brothers, Cecil Prater of Montgomery and Leon Prater of Louisiana; granddaughter, Diane Ferguson of Corsicana; grandsons, Hal Prater and wife Leslie and Ken A. Mr. Wylie is survived by his wife, Diann Wylie of Corsicana; parents, Kenneth M. and Patsy Wylie of Corsicana; daughters, Colleen Carter of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lezley Carter and Rhonda Carter, both of Houston; sons, Craig Thomason of Dallas and Lance Thomason of Waco; and brother, Ronald L. Mrs. Roloff was born July 16, 1911 in Navarro County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Edell Roloff; brother, Jerrell Baggett; and sister, Betty Jo Pringel.

Mrs. Roloff is survived by her daughter, Paula Ann Durrett of Houston; sons, Charles W. Roloff of Phoenix, Ariz. and Larry E. Roloff of Houston; brother, H.P. Baggett of Levelland; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Willie Mae (Henderson) Clayton

Willie Mae Henderson Clayton, 73, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999 in Dallas.

Services will be noon Monday at Second Mission Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry L. Polk Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

Mrs. Clayton was born July 17, 1926 in Chatfield. She was a member of the Second Mission Baptist Church and served as the president of the usher board, and was an active member of the mission department. She was a retired Headstart worker for 20 years. After retirement, Mrs. Clayton worked for Home Health services until July 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Elizabeth Henderson; and children, Curtis Raymond Henderson and Wille Donell Johnson.

Mrs. Clayton is survived by three children; Mary Alice Lloyd of Dallas, Edward Charles Clayton and Beverly Ann Cleveland and husband Daryl of Corsicana; three sisters, Bertha Smith of Los Angeles, Calif., Annie Allen of Shreveport, Louis. and Josephine Henderson of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Henderson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jimmy Dee and Curtis Henderson, both of Dallas; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandhildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Second Mission Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Henderson, James Henderson, Vertrain Allen, Chester Jones, Eldean Sample, and Glendale Sample.

Edwyna (Dozier) Hinkle

Edwyna Dozier Hinkle, 96, passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Diane and Wendell "Peb" Richards of Barry.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Blooming Grove with Pastors Marvin Moore and Cynthia Lee officiating. Special music of her favorite songs will be sung by grandson-in-law Donnie Grounds. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blooming Grove.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Brian Hinkle, Don Hinkle, Tim Hinkle, Larry Drew Gillen, great-grandson Jimmy Millspaugh and grandson-in-law Donnie Grounds. Honorary pallbearers will be Y.M. Putman, Doug Holliefield, Ralph Dozier, Sonny Boyd, Jerry Jordan and Jimmy Page.

She was born on the family farm north of Blooming Grove on July 27, 1903 to Benjamin Franklin Dozier and Mary Caroline "Mollie" Outlaw Dozier. On Aug. 9, 1918, she married James William "Buck" Hinkle of Parker County. After living on several farms, the family moved to Navarro County, eventually settling near Blooming Grove. They became members of the Blooming Grove Methodist Church. Next to her family, her greatest love was her church. She loved quilting with the ladies and making handmade items for the Lord's Acre. Her crochet and tatting is scattered all over the world. Known by everyone as "Mema," she was loved for her wit and winning personality.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James William "Buck" Hinkle; sons, Benny Hinkle and Duane Hinkle; grandsons, Eric and Kyle Richards; great-grandsons, Cory Bailey and Luke Grounds; sons-in-law, Charles Drew Gillen and Olan Bailey; and daughter-in-law, Florence Hinkle.

Those left to cherish and celebrate her life are a brother, Harold Dozier of Blooming Grove; sons and daughters-in-law, Edwyn Hinkle of Blooming Grove, Darrel and Kay Hinkle of The Colony, Hollis and Jody Hinkle of Joshua, and Richard and Ella Hinkle of Hong Kong; daughters and son-in-law, Avis Bailey of Mabank, Carolyn Gillen of Corsicana and Diane and Wendell "Pub" Richards of Barry; daughters-in-law, Mrs. Benny Hinkle of Blooming Grove and Mrs. Duane Hinkle of Temple; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Louise Haggard of Blooming Grove.

Dorothy Margaret (Rokey) Zug

Dorothy Margaret Rokey Zug of Corsicana passed away Sept. 21, 1999 after a lengthy illness.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Nancy Schusler officiating.

Mrs. Zug was born Sept. 26, 1915 in Sabetha, Kan. She was the third of five children born to Oney Simon and Minnie Strahm Rokey. In 1936, she married John M. Zug, also of Sabetha, Kan. Together they had two girls, Dixie and Jonnette Zug. Dixie married Tom G. Parris in 1959. Jonnette married Terry Ermiger in 1968. In 1970, Dorothy was blessed with two grandchildren, Jason Parris and Ashley Ermiger.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Zug. She was an inspiration to her family and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Zug is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Dixie and Tom Parris of Mesquite and Jonnette Ermiger of Corsicana; grandchildren, Jason Parris of Hilton Head, S.C. and Ashley Ermiger Sherman of Lake George, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Tessa and Jacob Sherman of Lake George, N.Y.; brothers, Harvey Rokey of Sabetha, Kan. and Dr. Ned Rokey of Mesa, Ariz.; sister, Iona Kaul of Sabetha, Kan.; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Clarence Langford, 87, of Waxahachie and formerly of Corsicana, passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel, with Brother Bill Honea officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Langford was born Nov. 20, 1921 in Grand Saline.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Brenda Langford of Dallas and Clarence Adolph and Juanita Langford of New Bern, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Adams was born Feb. 22, 1925 in Oakwood. He was a faithful member of Love Chapel Baptist Church. He was employed with Paymaster Oil Mill in 1954 and was later employed by Chattanooga Glass for many years until his health failed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Adams.

Mr. Adams is survived by his children, Vergie Brown, R.A. Adams Jr., James Brown, Charles Adams, Earl Brown and Cynthia Denice Brewer; godchild, Scharmel Newsome; daughters-in-law, Shirley Adams and Nina Adams; sons-in-law, Elder Willie Brown and Johnny Brewer; sisters, Lucille and Lillie Mae of Dallas and Corine Hodges of Waxahachie; sisters-in-law, Robbie Bailey and Benetta Brown, both of Corsicana, and Ethel Cleveland of Frost; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Martha A. "Mutt" Farmer, 78, of Athens, passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at her residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery near Cross Roads.

Mrs. Farmer was born July 26, 1921 in Van Zandt County to the late James Reese and Ollie Burnett Mewbourn. She had been a resident of Athens for 50 years. She was employed at Curtis Mathis Manufacturing for 14 years and South Elementary School for four years. She was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon L. Farmer of Athens; sons, Billy Don Partin of Jasper and Vernon Earl Farmer of San Marcos; daughters, June Knott and Carol Smith, both of Athens, Carolyn Gilmore of San Marcos and Darlene Webb of Mesquite; sisters, Velma Brown of McAlister, Okla. and Mabel Gafford of Tyler; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Lester Marvin 'Buck' Sutherland

Lester Marvin "Buck" Sutherland passed away Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, in Grapevine where he had been a resident in a nursing home since October 1990.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Mausoleum Chapel, with Bill Honea officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mr. Sutherland was born Oct. 26, 1904 in Dawson to Marcellus G. and Venona C. Jackson Sutherland, the youngest and only son of four children. He married Jewel Athylene Bush in Loving, N.M. on Aug. 15, 1930. They were together until Mrs. Sutherland's death at the Grapevine hospital in April 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents and three older sisters, Becky White, Bertie Stowers and Frances McCasland.

In early 1931 they trekked via Model A Ford roadster to Kilgore where the East Texas oil boom was in full force, with housing in short supply, necessitating living next to nature under pine trees until tent shelter became affordable.

Mr. Sutherland retired from Shell Pipeline in 1968 after 35 years, where he served variously as gauger and station engineer in White Oak, Seymour and Hamlin. He returned to Corsicana in the mid 1970s after living in Austin and Boulder, Colo. after his retirement. By coincidence, the house he purchased at 2402 W. Fifth Ave. was located on the site of the football field he played on in 1925 for Corsicana High School. It was there that he earned the nicknamed "Buck." Following school, he departed for the oil fields in Bakersfield, Calif. to seek his fortune. He lead a full life and will be missed by all who loved him.

Mr. Sutherland is survived by his sons, Bill Sutherland and wife Paula of Richardson and Richard Sutherland and wife Jeanette of Taylor; granddaughter, Stephanie Murr and husband Michael of Plano; and grandsons, Sean Scott Sutherland and wife Suzanne and great-grandson William Sean of Richardson, Ricky Sutherland and life companion Mary Esther Middleton of Austin and Joe Sutherland and wife Katrina and great-grandsons Cooper, Shea and Ian of Austin.

Mrs. Griffin was born Nov. 21, 1912 in Palestine. She was a member of Evergreen Primitive Baptist Church in Dawson and Willing Workers Chapter No. 80, Order of the Eastern Star of Dawson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, F. M. Griffin; three sisters and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Griffin is survived by her daughter, Linda and husband Charles; sons, Edmond, Jake and his wife Dorothy, James and Adam; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brothers, H.C. and Homer of California; sister, Thelma Sanders; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. O'Pry was born Jan. 7, 1939 in Groesbeck. He was self-employed and a member of the Baptist denomination. He had lived in Dawson for the past 20 years.

He is survived by two sons, John O'Pry III and Roy O'Pry, both of Dawson; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Michael Gregory of Dawson; five brothers; five sisters; and eight grandchildren.

Jo Anne Warthan Johnson, 63, of Tulsa passed away Sunday, June 2, 2002 at her residence.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Johnson was born March 13, 1939 in Houston. She married Don T. Johnson at First United Methodist Church in Corsicana in a double wedding with her sister and husband.

Mrs. Johnson earned her B.A. degree from Texas Western College at El Paso and her master's degree from Oklahoma State University. She was a retired schoolteacher, teaching both in Texas and Oklahoma for 25 years. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

She and her husband had lived in several towns in Texas and Oklahoma, serving United Methodist churches for over 40 years. Throughout those years, Mrs. Johnson continually studied and took courses that would help build up the congregations where her husband served.

She was a trained chemical dependency counselor, Bethel Bible teacher, Disciple Bible teacher, and recently finished her training as a Stephen minister. She enjoyed reading, volunteering, traveling, needlework and playing with grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lin Warthan.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Dr. Don T. Johnson; daughter, Kristin Anne Johnson of Stillwater, Okla.; son, Dr. D. Todd Johnson and wife Kellye and children Hunter, Hannah, Hayden and Hallye of Tulsa, Okla.; mother, Addie Laura Warthan of Corsicana; sister, Pat Hudson and husband Harry of Corsicana; brother-in-law, John Ron Johnson and wife Ann of Corsicana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lamon D. Long, 67, of Barry passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Corsicana. Officiating will be Pastor B.F. Risinger Jr. of First Baptist in Corsicana, Pastor Gene Gipson of First Baptist Church in Barry, and Mr. Long's cousin Jim Upchurch, hospice chaplain of Fort Worth. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Long, Jim Long, Heath Reynolds, Brian Phillips, Paul Jones and Scott Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons Peter C. Petersen, David Matthew Long and Stephen Kyle Long.

Mr. Long was born Aug. 21,1934 in Dallas. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1952. He was president of Long Construction Inc. and Long Foundation Drilling and was a resident of Navarro County for 24 years. Mr. Long and his brother James have operated a cattle ranch in Barry since 1978. He was also involved with his grandchildren's FFA activities. He was a respected member of the community and was a beloved brother, husband, father and friend.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Shirley Long of Barry; children, Lamont Long Petersen of Arlington, and Charles David Long and Stephen Wesley Long, both of Corsicana; brothers, James Long of Barry and Ronald Long of Lake Dallas; sisters, Pauline Carter of Gainesville and Phyllis Wikerson of Sanger; and grandchildren, Peter C. Billy Dan Clark, 70, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2002 at the V. A. Hospital in Dallas.

Private services were scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Rice Cemetery.

Mr. Clark was born Dec. 21, 1931 in Corsicana to Josie and T. D. Clark. He graduated from Corsicana High School, Navarro Junior College, and took classes at University of Texas and University of Oklahoma. He proudly served the United States in the Air Force for four years, stationed in San Antonio. He was an accomplished musician, playing the church organ and piano for many functions. He was a dedicated and compassionate nurse, working for Baylor Hospital, as well as private practice. He will be missed by everyone his life touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Survivors include his brothers, Ed, Wayne and Bob; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl E. Culver Sr.

Carl E. Culver Sr., 54, of Corsicana passed away Monday, June 3, 2002 at Ennis Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at J. E. Keever Mortuary Chapel.

Mr. Culver was born June 4, 1947 in Alva, Okla. to Victor and Frances L. Tucker Culver. He was raised in Alva. He attended Sunset High School in Dallas. In June 1964 he entered the U.S. Navy and was discharged in December 1965. He worked as a lab technician for Plastic Manufacturing in Dallas for several years. For the last 15 years he was employed by Schirm Manufacturing in Ennis.

Survivors include his son, Carl "Scooter" Culver II of DeSoto; daughter, Lena Culver of Midlothian and Cristin Culver of Red Oak; mother, Frances Herold of Alva, Okla.; brother, Dan Hada of Dallas; sisters, Carol Jarzombek of Falls City and Lettie Pivan of California; and grandchildren, Macaila and Madison.

CORSICANA - Ruby Lorene Summers, 80, died Friday, June 7, 2002.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Irving Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton-Beeman Cemeteryy in Retreat.

Mrs. Summers was born Jan. 3, 1922, in Corsicana. She was a seamstress and a member of First Baptist Church of Tool.

Pallbearers will be Rusty French, Jamie French, Jerry French, Zane Archer, Clint Archer and Karen Archer Galloway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Summers; and a daughter, Barbara French.

Survivors include a daughter, Reba Archer and husband, Richard, of Grand Prairie; a son-in-law, Jack French of Weatherford; a brother, Dewey Scruggs of Corsicana; three sisters, Pauline Slater and Maudina Moore, both of Corsicana, and Mary Wright of Dallas; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ruby Lorene Summers, 80, of Tool passed away Friday, June 7, 2002 in Corsicana.

WEATHERFORD - Barbara A. Summers French, 59, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Laurel Land Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Laurel Land Memorial Park.

Mrs. French was vice president of accounting for Fort Worth City Credit Union. She was an accomplished church pianist whose talent blessed multitudes of Christians.

Survivors include her husband, Jackie; three sons, Russell French and wife, Tammy, Jamie French and fiancé, Julie Larimer, and Jerry French and wife, Mitzi; her mother, Lorene Summers of Corsicana; a sister, Reba Archer and husband, Richard, of Grand Prairie; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Betty Lou Hunter, 78, of Richland passed away Friday, June 7, 2002 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Honea officiating. Interment will follow at Richland Cemetery.

She was born September 30, 1929, in Corsicana, Texas, to Pablo and Maria (Rangel) Samaniego. Her father and her husband, Raymond L. LaFuente preceded her in death. A Rosary was recited Thursday evening at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Edward Dokupil at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2002, in Ascension Catholic Church, Bastrop. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Bastrop. Mrs. Jackson, 87, died Aug. 15, 2000, at a local care center. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Jackson was born Oct. 19, 1912, in Dawson, Texas, to Dorsey E. and Oma Belle (Onstott) Moore, who are deceased. She was married June 29, 1935, to Lloyd "Denzel" Jackson. 

She is survived by her husband; a son, Donnie; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., 634-1597. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Circle Drive Baptist Church, 801 N. Circle Drive. Entombment will be at Shrine of Remembrance Garden of Angels Mausoleum.

Tommie Rufus Anderson, age 88, a lifelong resident of Austin, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2000. He was born on December 5, 1911, to Hamilton and Stella Anderson in Dawson, Texas.

Mr. Anderson was in the service station business for 48 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Willie Bowling Anderson; daughter, Tommie Jean Dickie; four grandchildren, Martha Lewis, Ron Newman, Gregg Newman, Lee Dickie; seven great- grandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild.

Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Dickie, Leroy Bowling, Ronnie Newman, Lee Dickie, Ken Eschbach and Doug Lewis.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2000, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2000, in the Colonial Chapel of CookWalden Funeral Home, Lamar location.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, in Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in Vancouver, Wash., for Verna Sue Smith, who died Dec. 12 of a stroke at age 66.

Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Dawson, Texas.

Her maiden name was Cottongame. She moved to Beaverton in the mid-1960s and later to Vancouver. She worked in knob assembly for Tektronix from 1974 to 1983. In 1952, she married Charles Smith.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Gary W. of Seattle, Curtis L. of Portland and Charles D. of Vancouver; daughters, Linda S. Inscore of Sherwood, Vickie Jackson of Dallas, Texas, Brenda of Dublin, Texas, and Fay of Lafayette, La.; brother, Jackie Cottongame of Big Spring, Texas; sisters, Geneva Morton, Betty Brumly and Sharon Roberts, all of Big Spring; and 10 grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Services for Cecil Bentley Taylor of Plano were held Tuesday at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. He died Saturday at a Plano hospital. He was 90.

Mr. Taylor was born Jan. 23, 1909 in Dawson, Texas. He married Naomi Betty Miller Taylor in November 1930. In 1939, he went to work for T&P Railroad, retiring in 1969 as an accounting supervisor. In his spare time, he enjoyed ham radio operations.

Mr. Taylor was a member of the First Baptist Church of Plano.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Taylor is survived by his son, Philip B. Taylor of Plano; grandson Lee Taylor of Denver; granddaughters Kelly Michelle Taylor of Dallas and Amanda Marie Taylor-Rao of Plano; and great-granddaughter Makenzie Adele Rao of Plano.

Hoskins was a supervisor at an electronics company.

He is survived by two sons, Gerald and Michael; two daughters, Sonia Hoskins and Carla Pitts; his father, Major; two sisters, Eula B. Gates and Carter Feliaciano; and five grandchildren.

Services for Roy Dwayne Pickett, an Arlington resident, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Board Tree Cemetery in Tehuacana, Texas.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Arlington Funeral Home. Mr. Pickett died Tuesday in Arlington. He was 58. Born on June 1, 1940, in Dawson, Texas, Mr. Pickett was a truck driver.

Joyce Marie (Robertson) Goode

A memorial service was held for Joyce Marie Goode, who died of a heart attack Aug. 4, 1998, at age 61.

Mrs. Goode was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Dawson, Texas. Her maiden name was Robertson. She lived in Uniontown, Ohio, and Mount Vernon, Ill., before moving to the Portland area in 1979. She lived in Newberg for 15 years and moved to Beaverton in 1994. She was a homemaker and a round-dance instructor throughout the area for the past 12 years. In 1962, she married Lloyd.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Michael G. of Mesquite, Texas, Danny R. of Newberg and Billy W. of Uniontown, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Portland Rescue Mission. Arrangements are by Autumn Burial & Cremation. Bonnie Luceil Lane.

Billie Ruth Lawrence

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Irving North Christian Church for retired shop instructor Billie Ruth `'Bill" Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence, 74, died Wednesday at Irving Healthcare System. He will be buried at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.

Mr. Lawrence was born in Dawson, Texas, where he graduated from high school. After serving in the Navy during World War II, Mr. Lawrence earned a degree in industrial arts from North Texas State College, now the University of North Texas.

In 1952, he became Irving's first wood-shop teacher, holding class in the old high school gymnasium, said his wife, Anita Lawrence, of Irving.

Mr. Lawrence later moved to the Dallas Independent School District, where he taught industrial arts at Crozier Tech High School. In Dallas, he helped students build homes as a means of teaching carpentry and bricklaying, Mrs. Lawrence said. In the '60s, Mr. Lawrence took a job with the Texas Department of Education Region 11 office in Fort Worth.

He and his wife then moved to Waco, where Mr. Lawrence and his brother had a barbecue restaurant, Ole Smokey, for several years. For the last 20 years, Mr. Lawrence was a member and standout performer with the Lively Swingers, a performing seniors' groups based at Irving's Lively Park Senior Center. "He was our resident jokester," said Linda Spencer, supervisor of the Irving center. "He could tell a joke and a one-liner like nobody could. He was the pro at the jokes."

In addition to his wife, Mr. Lawrence is survived by two sons, William R. Lawrence of Irving and Donald Lawrence of Plano; a sister, Jo Delle Nesmith of Dawson, Texas; a brother, Bobbie Lynn Lawrence of Lufkin; and four grandchildren.

Billie Ruth Lawrence

Billie Ruth Lawrence of Irving died Feb 18 in Irving, He was 74.
Lawrence was born Oct 29, 1923, at Dawson. He worked as a shop instructor for the Dallas and Irving ISDs and was a Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Anita B. Lawrence, two sons, William R. Lawrence of Irving, and Donald Lawrence of Plano, a sister, Jo Delle Nesmith of Dawson, a brother, Bobbie Lynn Lawrence of Lufkin, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 21 at Irving North Christian Church with the Rev. John Burton officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.

G. MAURICE BERRY, 92, of Colorado Springs died Saturday at Pikes Peak Manor.

She was the owner of a Manitou Springs motel and she was a high school teacher for about 28 years. Graveside services will be in Dawson, Texas.

Sunset Chapel Mortuary is handling local arrangements.

She was born Aug. 2, 1895, to Moses L. Berry and Maude M. (Houston) Berry. She was a graduate of Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. She had been a resident of this area since the late 1950s. She is survived by a sister, Ola Brodie of Denton; two nieces; and six nephews.
