Curtis Frank Joplin

PECOS — Curtis Frank Joplin, 99, of Pecos, retired manager of a hardware store, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Greer Willis officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.
He was born in Kerens and was a resident of Pecos since 1909. He was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Sons, Tom Joplin of Burke, Va., Wayne Joplin of Winnsboro and Jerry Joplin of Odessa; daughters, Loyce Brown of Rochester, Minn., and Barbara LeBarron of Houston; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Tom Joplin of Burke, Va., Wayne Joplin of Winnesboro, Jerry Joplin of Odessa; two daughters, Loyce Brown of Rochester, Minn., Barbara LeBarron of Houston; 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to First Baptist Church in Pecos.

CORSICANA — Fern Waltman, 89, of Lake Charles, La., died Friday, April 11, 2003, at a nursing facility in Lake Charles.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. M. Shawn Corzine officiating. Arrangements by Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, La.
SURVIVORS: Daughter, Shirley Shelton of Lake Charles; son, Pat Waltman of Houston; brothers, Lewis Zumwalt of Tulsa, Okla., and Bennie Zumwalt of Deer Park; sister, Ethel Corzine of Odessa; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.


Gladys Opal (Atkeisson) Harwell

ODESSA — Opal Harwell, 86, of Odessa, died Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born June 2, 1916, in Corsicana, Texas to William and Mary Atkeisson. Opal worked many years on the family farm and also in the cotton mill in Corsicana where she meet James Harwell and they married March 27,1948.
She came to Odessa in 1960 from Corsicana. She was a housewife and a member of the Church of Christ. Opal loved camping, fishing and being with her family. She will be deepley missed by all who knew her.
Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9,2002, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Don Belk officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include daughter, Shirley Taylor of Odessa; son Don Hardee of Odessa; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Harwell, son Joe Hardee, and brothers Billy Atkeisson and Otis Atkeisson.
Services have been entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Douglas James
ODESSA — Douglas H. James, 77, of Odessa, a retired Expert Fishing Tools employee, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. David Mindel officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Corsicana and had been a resident of Pampa before moving to Odessa in 1940. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Sarah James of Odessa; daughter, Louise Coulson of Glouchester, Mass.; sisters, Louise Smith of San Angelo, Jerry Mitchell of Boerne and Jeanette Speduti of Shalimar, Fla., and two grandchildren.


Calvin V. Milburn

ODESSA — Hon. Calvin V. Milburn, age 86, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. He was born Jan. 22, 1916 in Corsicana, Texas.
He married Jeanne Cooper in Odessa on Oct. 21, 1950. She predeceased him in February 2001.
He was a graduate of Texas A&M and received his law degree from the University of Texas. He served as County Attorney, Ector County, 1957-59; Judge , 7th Administrative Judicial District, 1972-76; Judge, 161st District Court, 1957-59; and 70th Judicial Court, Ector County, 1959-78 (retired).
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang, Chamber of Commerce and State Bar of Texas.
He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Linda and Tom Meier of San Angelo; his grandson, Jeffrey M. Correa and wife Christy of Canyon Lake; and two great-grandchildren, Clinton and Ginny Correa.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 20, 2002, with the Rev. Steve Trout officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Edna Gladney Fund, 6300 John Ryan Drive, Fort Worth, TX, 76132, or Meals on Wheels.

She was born in Navarro County. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

KARLO KENT JENSEN, 78, died Friday at Menifee Valley Medical Center in

Sun City. Born in Corsicana, Texas, Mrs. Jensen lived in Sun City 10 years. She was a data processor with the state of Oregon for two years.

Mrs. Jensen is survived by her husband, Hans; two sons, Barney of Perris and Mark of Canyon Lake; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

No services are planned. Interment will be private.

Karlo Jensen, 78
SUN CITY ---- Karlo Kent Jensen, 78, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.
She was born March 19, 1925, in Corsicana, Texas. She did date processing in Salem, Ore., for two years.
Mrs. Jensen is survived by her husband, Hans Jensen of Sun City; sons Barney Jensen of Perris and Mark Jensen of Canyon Lake; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Thelma Hinker

THELMA HINKER, 90, died April 22 at Cloverleaf Convalescent Center in

Hemet of a heart attack. Born in Corsicana, Texas, Mrs. Hinker lived in Sun City 35 years. Previously she lived in Quail Valley 10 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Hinker was a member of the Sun City Bible Church.

She is survived by three nieces, Mary Saulino, Shirley Benson and Beverly York, all of Washington.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Evans-Brown Mortuary in Sun City.

Burial will be in Memory Garden Memorial Park in Brea.

Bobbie B. Reed, 85, of Kerens passed away Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Paschal Funeral Home.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Kerens with the Rev. Cathy Mordecai officiating and the Rev. Don Kelley and Chris Saddock assisting. Interment will follow at Kerens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of the family.

Mrs. Reed was born April 13, 1918, in Purdon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Reed in 1992.

Survivors include her son, Robert Reed of Kerens; daughter, Mitzi Saddock of Sunnyvale; sisters, Elsie Ward of Temple, Martha Morris of Athens and Bess Nichols of Shreveport, La.; and eight grandchildren.

Annie Nadine (Hawkins) Jones, 84, of Kerens passed away Thursday, May 29, 2003, at her residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Kerens with the Rev. Wes Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Point Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Garland Hawkins, Daniel Hawkins, O.R. Spurlock, Bill Stovall, Ronnie Hawkins and Johnny Hawkins.

Mrs. Jones was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Kerens. She owned Ann Jones Beauty Shop and operated it out of her home for 37 years. She was devoted all of her life to her family, friends and church.

Survivors include two nieces, Gladys Hawkins of Malakoff and Carolyn Pate of Kerens; and 11 nephews, Aubrey Earley, Earnest "Bo" Sharrer and Charles Hawkins, all of Kerens, Jimmie Lee Hawkins, Garland Hawkins and Tom Paschal, all of Corsicana, Roy Glen Hawkins and Daniel Wayne Hawkins, both of Athens, J.B. "Bugs" Paschal of Mexia, Bill Mankin of Angleton and Ray Hawkins of Longview.

Funeral services for Maxcine Young Williams, 73, of Atlanta, Texas, and formerly of West Helena, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena. The Rev. J.L. Sanders will officiate. Burial will be at Marianna Memorial Park in Marianna.

Williams, born Sept. 9, 1929, in Frost, Texas, died April 3, 2003, at her home in Atlanta.

She leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Diane Young of Douglasville, Texas, and Jimmy and Ladonna Young of McCloud, Texas; four brothers, Cecil Horne of Helena, Curtis Horne of Chillicothe, Mo., Bill Horne of West Helena and Jim Horne of Gettysburg, Pa.; three sisters, Doris Evans of Wichita Falls, Texas, Evelyn Owens and Iva Walker of West Helena; and six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Her first husband, J. T. Young, son Rickey Young and her second husband, Robert D. Williams, preceded her in death.

Pallbearers will be Charles Walls, Roy Henson, Tommy Ford, Bryan Ford, Tim Gibson Brandon Millwood, and Scotty Freeman.

Alvie R. Ray

Alvie R. Ray, age 81, of Waco, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2003 at a Waco nursing home.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 2 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd., Waco with Dr. Hugo Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Pattison Cemetery in Emhouse, Texas. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 1 at the funeral home.

Mr. Ray was born December 6, 1921 in Emhouse to Bez and Minnie Meadows Ray. He had been a resident of Waco since 1968. He married Imogene Dockery on October 15, 1941. He was a veteran of WW II in the US Navy. He retired from the Navy in 1959 and served an additional 10 years with the Civil Service in Orange, Texas.

He enjoyed his retirement years in Waco and was an avid golfer. He was known and loved for his sense of humor. He was a member of the Barry Masonic Lodge and Church on the Rock in Waco.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 brothers and sisters and his son, Robert Royce Ray in August of 1959.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Ray; daughters Suzanne Parrish and husband Michael of China Spring, Robin Malea Donaldson and husband Curt of China Spring; Grandchildren, Robert Parrish and wife Beth of Sacramento, California, Kimberly Galvan and husband Bubba of Waco, Christopher Caine Donaldson and Benjamin Ray Donaldson, both of Waco; great-grandchildren, Isabella Maria Galvan and Samantha Ren/e Parrish; sisters, Christine Luther and husband James of Corsicana, Marie Adams of Marble Falls; brother, Garvis Ray of Midland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bullock Rites Planned Sunday

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Bullock will be at 3 p.m. Sunday from the First Baptist church of Richland with burial in the Richland cemetery.  Rev. L. B. Fowler will conduct the rites.

Mrs. Bullock died Friday in a San Antonio hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Haschal Bullock, Modesto, Calif and O. W. Bullock, Purdon; two daughters, Mrs. J. H. Bosley of Richland and Mrs. W. S. Bosley, Houston; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Renna Schrink, Frederick, Okla., Mrs. Nettie Johnson Snyder, Okla; a brother, Bill Marshall, Snyder, Okla.

Mrs. G. W. Boyd Services Are Held Saturday

Funeral for Mrs. George W. Boyd, 76, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday from First Methodist church, with Rev. Sidney Roberts, pastor officiating.  Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Boyd of 1423 West Second avenue, died in Memorial hospital Thursday afternoon.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Jack C. Roberts, Houston; a son, G. Mitchell Boyd, Corsicana; three sisters, Mrs. George C. Edwards, Mrs. Jesse C. Perkins and Miss Claytie Root all of Lufkin; four grandchildren, Miss  Bette Boyd, George Boyd and Bill Boyd, Corsicana, and Gary Boyd Roberts, new York.

Pallbearers were Herman Roberts, Fred S. Brown, Maurice Young, R. C. Grandberry, Jr., G. R. Robertson, C. J. Henry, J. C. Gaston and Walter Erwin.

Herring, 27, died Wednesday in Tyler.  He was born in Navarro County and had lived in Tyler about three years.

Survivors are his wife of Tyler; a son, Robert Earl; a daughter, Leita Jane, both of Tyler; parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Herring, Arlington; two brothers J. W. and Autry Neil both of Arlington; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Thrasher, Mansfield; Mrs. Hazel Marie Thomas, Minden, La., and Mrs. Dorothy Jean Congleton, Arlington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pearl Brandon Franklin, 68, of Las Vegas, Nev. passed away Monday, May 26, 2003 in Las Vegas.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Renfro Memorial Church of God in Christ, 702 East Park Avenue in Corsicana, with Elder William Lewis Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Corsicana.

Mrs. Franklin was born May 5, 1935 in Eureka.

She is survived by sons, Marving Brandon and James Brandon Sr.; daughter, Margie Brandon; several grandchildren; four brothers, Louis Brandon, Nathaniel Brandon, James H. Brandon and Jerry Brandon, all of Corsicana; two sisters, Ada B. Johnson of Denver, Colo. and Dorothy Jones of Corsicana; and other relatives.

Ed Sullivan, 79, of Corsicana passed away Sunday, June 1, 2003 in Corsicana.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Corley Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bill Honea officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Mr. Sullivan was born Sept. 1, 1923 in Corsicana. He was a retired oilfield welder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Sullivan; brother, Clarence Sullivan; and sisters, Jewel Middleton, Wilma Warren and Effie Dycus.

Mr. Sullivan is survived by sister-in-law, Mrs. Clarence Sullivan of Irving; sisters and brother-in-law, Marie and Kenneth Price of Corsicana, Mary Edna Sullivan of Corsicana and Mrs. Doris Ward of Groesbeck; brother, B. E. Sullivan of Mexia; sons, Carl Sullivan and Paul Sullivan, both of Houston; daughter, Carolyn Sullivan of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack N. Roper, Sr.

JACK N. SR. Born April 13, 1919, to Andrew N. and Delia L. Roper of Dawson (Navarro County), Texas and in Dec, 1919 the entire family moved to Dallas.  Mr. Roper is predeceased by his first wife, Gertrude S. Roper, his life and love of 53 years, his parents, his brothers Robert N. Roper of Houston and James H. Roper of Dallas, and his step-daughter, Melodie Graves.  Mr. roper is survived by his wife, Jody  Roper, who he often referred to as his personal gift from heaven; two sons from his first marriage, Jack N. Roper, Jr. and wife Dana of Addison,  Richard S. Roper and wife Gloria of Pepeekeo, Hawaii, a grandson Jack N. "Bo" Roper, III, of Ft. Worth, granddaughters Jennifer Slavinskas of Austin, Kristina Roper of Hollywood, California, and great grandsons, Jon  Slavinskas of Austin.  Also, by a most special cousin, Bobbie J. Meadows of San Antonio, a niece Katheryn L. Roper of Dallas, a nephew James H. Roper, Jr., of Carrollton and his wife Vanetta, along with a number of nieces's and nephews.  Shortly after graduating from Sunset High School, Mr. Roper was employed by Burris Mill & Elevator as internal auditor over seeing their 13 mills and elevators.  He was called up for service in 1943 to the Aviation Cadet program at the Cadet Center in San Antonio.  He finished his training at Air Force Navigation School in Hondo, Texas, where he served as Cadet Colonel at graduation.  He was transferred to the 8th Air Force in England and later to the 15th Air Force in Italy serving as Squadron Navigator under Loyd Bentson of the 716 squadron of the 449th Heavy Bomb Group.  During his time in Italy, he was awarded the D.F.C..  Shortly after returning from the service as a Captain in the Air Force, he was asked to join a new company Bearing Chain & Supply Company, which had been started by a friend, who also served as a pilot in Italy, where he spent the next 32 years as a partner.  During his years with Bearing Chain he served as Program Chairman for the Oak Cliff Lions Club, President of the Dallas Chapter of the Texas Association of Business, national Affair Chairman for the State Association of Business, President of Power Transmission Distributors Association, and served on numerous advisory boards o various manufacturers.  Roper retired in 1983 to enjoy his family in travels around the world.  Graveside services 1:30 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at Restland Funeral Home with a memorial service at 2:30 PM at Park Cities Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 14, 2003.  (DMN)

Joe AB, passed away December 6, 2002 after a lengthy illness.  He was born to Walter and Ada Barton, December 21, 1920 who preceded him in death as did his two brothers, Buford Harris Barton and Edgar Barton.  Joe was born and raised near Blooming Grove, Texas.  On December 22, 1942, he married Billie Gardner of Avalon, Texas.  They would have soon celebrated their 60th anniversary.  He is also survived by a son, Joe Glenn Barton; daughter-in-law Eva Hartsell Barton; and granddaughter, Autumn Barton all of Farmersville, Texas.  He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Garland, a born again Christian since he was a young man, a fifty year member of Garland Masonic Lodge #441, and retired from Continental Electronics after twenty-seven years. Family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. Sunday, December 8, 2002 at Restland Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. CECIL MAE PRESLEY, 88, passed away February 6, 2003 in Dallas.  Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home with burial to follow at Grove Hill.  Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Anderson Clayton.  Cecil was born June 4, 1914 in Rice, Texas.  She resided in Dallas for over 50 years and she lived for the past five years at Twelve Oaks Retirement Center.  Cecil was a longtime member of East Grand Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband Richard C. Adams.  She is survived by her brother, Donald J. Presley; nephews, Mike Presley, Bobby Presley, and Donald Presley; niece and nephew, JoAnn and John Dolance and their daughters, Susie and Joanie; seven great nieces and two great nephews; a host of cousins and devoted friends. LAVELLE, 72, died in a Dallas Hospital on December 2, 2002.  He was born on August 8, 1930 in Chatfield, Texas and grew up in Corsicana where he completed high school.  He entered the U.S. Army and served in Japan.  When he returned to the U.S. he came to Grand Prairie and worked for Brown Funeral Home and later the telephone company laying lines.  He served with the Dallas Police Department for 8 years and later became a commercial truck driver.  He was a member of East Dallas Masonic Lodge #1200, the AMVETS in Whitney, Texas and V.F.W. Post #2414 in Dallas.  Survivors include his children; Celine Peters of Peyton, Colorado, David Denbow of Grand Prairie, Tx, Donna Powell of Euless, Tx, Robert Denbow of Grand Prairie Tx., 11 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren.  Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Graveside Services will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway in Dallas on Thursday, December 5th at 1:00 p.m.  Family and Friends will gather at the cemtery at 12:45 p.m. in Lane B prior to the 1 P.M. service.

Services for Maurice Dale Williamson, 82 of Tool are scheduled for Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m. at the Tomlinson Funeral Home Chapel in Seven Points with Dr. Rocky Weatherford and Logan Wilson officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Restland Cemetery in Dallas under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points. Mr. Williamson passed away Tuesday at his residence in Tool. Mr. Williamson worked for Lone Star Gas as an Office Manager, retiring after 36 years of service. He was also served as Treasurer for the Home Builders Association of Corsicana and was a member of the Rotary Club in Corsicana.

Mr. Williamson was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Clare Williamson; Infant brother, Lucian A. Williamson; and brother, Guy Bernard Williamson.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Marge Williamson, Tool; stepdaughter, Diane Gorzny and husband Jerry, Aubrey, Texas; stepson Michael Coffey and wife Sandy, Dallas; and two granddaughters, McKenzie Gorzney and Cameron Coffey

Lally M. (Womack) Ratigan

Lally M. Ratigan, 82, of Lacy Lakeview died Saturday, April 12, 2003 at her residence.  Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 at Wilkirson Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 1124 Washington Ave., with the Rev. Paul Fabiszewski officiating.  Burial will follow at Dawson City Cemetery in Dawson, Texas.  Visitaion with the family will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 14 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ratigan was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Deport, Texas.  She moved to Dawson as a child where she attended school.  On Sept. 19, 1952, she married Joe Ratigan in Hubbard.  He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1999.  Mrs. Ratigan was a registered nurse and worked for Providence Hospital.  She was a member of Lacy Lakeview Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, George Philip Ratigan of Spicewood, Texas; grandson, Shawn Philip Ratigan of Austin; great-grandson, Isaiah Christopher Ratigan of Austin; sisters, Virginia Ramph of Frisco, Texas, and Ila Turner of Homestead, Fla; and brother Hugh Womack of Waco.

Charles Wallace officiating. Mr. Dunn was born July 20, 1942 in Brady. He attended Texas A&M University and was general manager of Foster Farms for the past 16 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.B. Dunn and Willie Beatrice Lawson Dunn. Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife of 15 years, Marilyn Carver Dunn of Richmond; sons, Dalton Dunn of Richmond and Brad Dunn of Cedar Hill; daughters, Kelly Dunn Werner of Grand Prairie and Jennifer Dunn Wade of Rowlett; grandchildren, Iylish and Ian Dunn and Hunter and Chloe Wade; sister, Jackie Dunn Pate of Minden, La.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gene and Lena Mae Carver of Dawson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Wake services will be 7 p.m. Friday at Ross and Johnson Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Dawson with the Rev. Catlin Swift officiating. Interment will follow at Dawson Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family. Mrs. Lusk was born Nov. 7, 1942 in Navarro County. She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Rusk; mother, Lela Mae Miller; father, H.T. Miller Sr.; and sister, Alice Faye Miller. Rosie Lorene (Flanigan) Tye

Rosie Lorene Tye, 84, of Houston passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001 in Houston. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Dawson Cemetery with the Rev. James Hooper officiating. Family will receive friends at the cemetery before the services. Mrs. Tye was born Oct. 9, 1916 in Dawson and reared in Waco. She had worked as an operations officer for several banks in Houston including American Bank and Fannin Bank. She was named Bank Woman of the Year in Houston in 1953. She also owned her own craft business in the Galleria in Houston. She later was a resident of Hubbard for many years and was active in the senior citizens. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Tye on June 22, 1997; a son; and a brother, W. L. Flanigan in 1978. Mrs. Tye is survived by her daughter, Julia Ann Gipson of Waco; brothers, Jack Flanigan of San Jose, Calif. and Billy Flanigan of Houston; and granddaughter, Susan Lynch of Montara, Calif.
