Mrs. Esther Blumrosen, Dallasite's Mother, Dies Mrs. Esther Blumrosen, 80, mother of Mrs. Will Garonzik of Dallas and member of a prominent Navarro County family, died Monday in a Corsicana hospital. She was buried Monday afternoon.
Mrs. Blumrosen, sister of Rube Freedman whose statue stands in the courthouse square at Corsicana, and of Col. F. S. Freedman, an officer on Gov. James Stephen Hogg's staff, had lived with her daughter at 2501 South Boulevard for thirty years.
Before his death forty-sevens years ago, her husband, J. Blumrosen, was a merchant at Corsicana.
Survivors also include a son, Mose Blumrosen of Corsicana, and six grandchildren. Rabbi Harry Shapiro conducted the funeral service. Notes:

an extended illness.
He had been employed at the local plant thirty-six years.
Surviving are his wife; a son, D. W. Blue Jr., Danville, Ohio, and a daughter, Mrs. James Randolph, Houston.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of his son.

D. W. Blue, aged 52 years, died at his home, 109 South Twenty-Ninth
street, Wednesday afternoon following an illness of several months. He
was superintendent of maintenance of the Bethlehem Supply Co. plant here
and had been an employe of the local plant since Nov. 11, 1910. He had
resided in Corsicana since early childhood.
Funeral services were no immediately arranged pending arrival of his son
from Danville, Ohio.
Surviving are his wife of Corsicana; a son, D. W. Blue, Jr., Danville,
Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. James Randolph, Houston, and other relatives.

Blue was a member of Corsicana Lodge No. 6, Knights of Pythias for many
years.

A native of Georgia, she came to Cryer Creek, Navarro County, in 1869, and a few years later moved to Corsicana. Surviving are three daughters, a grandson and three great-grandsons. Notes:

afternoon, were held from the family home, 1220 West Fourth avenue

Baptist church, assisted by Rev. Andrew Byers, pastor of the First

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Ellison, 34, wife of J. E. Ellison,
who died Thursday afternoon at 5 o’clock following a lingering
illness, were held from the residence of her adopted father, Ben
Howard, 904 North Beaton street, Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock with
burial in Oakwood cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by
Rev. Tom Lenox, pastor of the First Christian church.
Mrs. Ellison had been in ill health for some time and returned to
Corsicana last week from El Paso.
Surviving are her husband, two sons, one daughter and foster father.
Active pallbearers were Lanty Miller, W. A. Brown, Elbert Williams,
Robert B. Cooksey, H. E. Redden and Jack Powell.

A lifelong resident of Corsicana, Mrs. Elliott was a Presbyterian and a charter member and past regent of the Corsicana DAR.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Guy Tate of Dallas and Mrs. C. F. Norton of Denton; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Elliott was the widow of the late W. M. Elliott, long-time Navarro County surveyor.

Funeral rites for Mrs. W. M. Elliott, 78, life-long Corsicana resident,
who died Sunday in the Corsicana Hospital and Clinic, were held from the
McCammon Chapel Tuesday at 3 p.m.
The services were conducted by Dr. Matthew H. Arnold, minister of the
Westminister Presbyterian church. Burial was in
Oakwood cemetery.
Mrs. Elliott was a charter member and past regent of the James Blair
Chapter DAR and was active in the Third Avenue Presbyterian church for
many years, serving as president of the Women’s Council of the local
church and president of the Presbyterial of the Waco Presbytery.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Guy Tate, Dallas, and Mrs. C. F.
Norton, Dallas; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and
other relatives.
Mrs. Elliott was the widow of the late W. M. Elliott, long-time Navarro
county surveyor.
Pallbearers were Judge A. P. Mays, Rufus Shell, Ralph Stell, Dean Allen,

Miss Elliott's Funeral
Corsicana, Tex., March 5. - A large concourse of sorrowing friends and acquaintances saw the remains of Miss Mary P. Elliott consigned to the tomb this afternoon. The funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a member, by Rev. M. S. Hotchkiss, pastor of the First Methodist church, in the absence of the pastor, Rev. J. T. Walne. A musical programme was rendered by the choir, in which the deceased sung during her lifetime, led by Miss Annie Halbert. There were many wet cheeks and few dry eyes in the congregation. The friends of the popular young lady paid their last respects to her by sending flowers, which almost covered the casket. It develops to-day that the young lady had made frequent visits of late to the Doolin tank, where she drowned herself. Parties who reside near the pool of water had seen her go to and from the place, but took no particular notice of her coming and going, thinking that she had picked this sheet of water as a suitable one to spend some time each day fishing and in recreation. The opinion of the mother and father now is that she had contemplated suicide at each one of these visits, but reconsidered and did not decide on the awful course taken until yesterday. It is also thought now that the young lady when she entered the Beaton street drug store on yesterday went there to secure poison instead of prepared chalk, but decided after reaching the store that she could brave the depression and finally recover from her despondency. When found by Messrs. Lum Benton and Ed White the body, as stated in to-day's News, was attired in the same clothes she had left home with.

Funeral services for John M. Bradley, aged 66 years, prominent
resident of Rice for many years, who died in the Navarro Clinic here
early Wednesday morning, were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
The rites were held at the Haynie Memorial Methodist church at Rice
with interment in the Rice cemetery.
The services were conducted by Rev. R. E. Briggs, pastor of the
church.
Mr. Bradley was a native of Mississippi, but had resided in the Rice
community for the past 46 years, and was well-known throughout
Navarro County.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, J. K. Bradley and Alton B.
Bradley, all of Rice; two brothers, Joe B. Bradley, Rice, and W. W.
Bradley, Gladewater; two sisters, Mrs. W. A. Perryman, Dallas and

CORSICANA, Texas, April 15. - Funeral services for George W. Boyd, 71, long-time civic, political and financial leader here, were held at the First Methodist Church here Monday, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Boyd was a steward of the Methodist Church.
Boyd, an extensive landowner, had served as city assessor and collector of taxes, Navarro County tax collector, Navarro County commissioner and election judge.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Mitchell Boyd of Corsicana; a daughter, Mrs. Jack Roberts of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. T. M. Fouty and Mrs. Wade Harvard, both of Navarro. Notes:

George W. Boyd, Former Official, Services Monday
George W. Boyd, 71, long-time Navarro county resident, died at his
home, 1423 West Second Avenue, Saturday afternoon following an
extended illness.
Funeral services were held from the First Methodist church at 2 p.m.
Monday. Burial was in Oakwood
cemetery. The rites were conducted by
Dr. Chet C. Henson, pastor. Boyd was a long-time member and steward
of the Methodist church.
Prominent in political, financial and other circles, Boyd served
several terms as assessor and collector of taxes for the city of
Corsicana, and later was Navarro county tax collector for several
years. He served as Commissioner of Precinct 1. He also served for
years as an election judge.
Surviving are his wife of Corsicana; a son, Mitchell Boyd,
Corsicana; a daughter, Mrs. Jack Roberts, Dallas; four
grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. T. M. Fouty and Mrs. Wade Harvard,
both of Navarro and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Herman Roberts, Afton Burke, Charles Highnote,
Lawrence Tilton, Art Martin, Byron Harwell, John Booker, Kerens; Dr.
E. H. Newton, Harry Burke and R. L. Sims.

CORSICANA, Texas, Aug. 30. - The body of Mrs. Henry L. Boyd, 68, who died Friday in Baylor Hospital, Dallas, was brought to Corsicana in the afternoon and was taken to her home in the White's Chapel community.
Mrs. Boyd came to Texas from Kentucky in 1881 and lived in Dallas one year before moving to Navarro County, where she has resided since. Surviving are her husband and one daughter, Miss Gladys Flowers. Notes:

O. C. Bowmer
Dr. O. C. Bowmer, 79, long-time physician of Navarro county, died at his
home, 1815 West First avenue, Monday morning following a several weeks’
illness. Funeral services will be held from the St. John’s Episcopal
church Tuesday at 4 p.m. Burial will be in
Oakwood cemetery.
The rites will be conducted by the Rev. James Joseph, rector.

A native of Williamson county, Dr. Bowmer graduated from the Barnes
Medical College, St. Louis, in the 1890’s, and began the practice of
medicine at Hunter, Texas, near San Antonio. He later practiced at Round
Rock where he went to the
Spanish-American War
as a lieutenant in the medical corps. He was a partner with the late Dr.
J. A. Holloway at Round Rock, Dr. Holloway was the father of Dr. R. N.
Holloway of Corsicana.
Dr. Bowmer opened an office at Rice in 1904 and later moved to Corsicana
before World War 1. He enlisted in
World War I in 1917 and was
commissioned a captain in the medical department. He sought
unsuccessfully to enlist in World War 11 in 1942.
Hold Official Posts
He was a member of the Navarro county hospital board from 1937 until
1952, governing body of the P. and S. Hospital, and during the planning
and construction of the new Memorial Hospital. He also served several
years as Navarro county health officer.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Otho A. and a daughter, Mary Louise
Bowmer, Corsicana; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Young, Wichita Falls; Mrs.
Bess Nash, Tyler, and Mrs. Della Currie, Fort Worth and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Dan B. Hamill, Dr. L. E. Kelton, Dr. J. H.
Barnabee, W. P. Brown, C. C. Weatherford, Paul Miller, Paul Moore, C. A.

A member of the Navarro county hospital board from 1937 to 1952, he also
served several years as Navarro county health officer.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Otho A., and a daughter, Mary Louise

Engineer 45 Years
R. A. Boothe, 83, father of Clyde Boothe of 3542 Rosedale, a subscriber to the news for fifty-two years, of forty-five years an engineer on the Southern Pacific and for forty years a member of the board of stewards of the Methodist church, died at his home in Ennis early Wednesday.
Born in Selma, Ala., in 1854, he came to Texas with his mother at the close of the Civil War, settling at Houston. Later he lived at Corsicana, Denison, finally removing to Ennis. While an engineer he contributed many articles and news items to the news.
He was a member of the Brother-hood of Locomotive Engineers, Odd Fellows and Masonic organizations.
He is survived by four sons, Clyde Boothe of Dallas, R. E. Boothe of Longview, J. A. Boothe and T. E. Boothe of Ennis, and two daughters, Mrs. Earle Rumbo of Harlingen and Mrs. W. A. Kirkpatrick of West Monroe, La. Funeral services will be conducted at Corsicana Thursday afternoon.

ROBERT A. BOOTHE RETIRED ENGINEER BURIED CORSICANA
Funeral services for Robert Alexander Boothe, age 84 years, retired
Southern Pacific Lines engineer of Ennis, who died Tuesday night at
midnight, were held Thursday morning from the First Methodist church
in Ennis with interment in Oakwood cemetery, Corsicana.
Mr. Boothe was a native of Alabama, but came to Texas immediately
after the close of the Civil War. He resided at Richmond, later
moving to Corsicana where he resided until the Southern Pacific
Lines round-house and headquarters were moved to Ennis. Mr. Boothe
united with the Methodist church in Corsicana in 1874 and had been a
member of the Ennis Methodist church since 1891.
Mr. Boothe served with the railroad company for 43 years prior to
his retirement in 1919. He entered the service of the old H. and T.
C. R. R. Company at Corsicana as a mechanical helper in February,
1876, and became an engineer, October 10, 1885. He became a
passenger engineer in 1891. He was a member of the board of stewards
of the Methodist church for many years and was a Mason and Odd
Fellow in addition to holding memberships in railroad organizations.
Surviving are his wife, Ennis; four sons, Tom Boothe and Jim Boothe,
both of Ennis; C. A. Boothe, Dallas, and R. E. Boothe, Longview; two
daughters, Mrs. W. A. Kirkpatrick, Monroe La., and Mrs. Earl Rumbo,
Harlingen; eight grandchildren, and half brother; Gus Hammack,
California.
Masons had charge of the rites at the grave.
Sutherland-McCammon Funeral Home directed the arrangements.

CORSICANA, Texas, Aug. 17. - Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for J. C. Breithaupt, 71, pioneer farmer of the Pickett community, near Corsicana, with burial in the Hamilton Cemetery. He was found dead near the barn of his home Friday night, presumably as a result of a heart attack. Surviving are his wife and three sons, B. R. Breithaupt, Fort Worth, and C. E. and L. E. PIONEER RESIDENT PICKETT
COMMUNITY FOUND DEAD THERE
J. C. Breithaupt, 71, pioneer farmer of the Pickett community,
was found dead near his barn Friday night about 9 o’clock, about
12 hours after he was missed by members of the family. It is
thought that heart failure caused his death. He had been dead
several hours when found. After he was missed, members of the
family instituted a search for him.
The funeral services were conducted at the Hamilton
cemetery Saturday
afternoon at 4 o’clock where interment was made.
Surviving are his wife, three sons, C. E. Breithaupt, Corsicana;
B. R. Breithaupt, Fort Worth, and L. E. Breithaupt, Corsicana.
The funeral was directed by the Corley-McMahon Funeral Home.

ACCIDENT VICTIM IS BURIED THESDAY MORNING IN OAKWOOD
Funeral rites for B. O. Brent, aged 24, who died early Monday in Kilgore
from injuries sustained late Sunday night when he was struck by a
falling elevator, while working on an oil rig, were held Tuesday morning
at 11 o'clock from 916 West Fifteenth avenue, with burial in
Oakwood
cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. Grant, full Gospel minister.
Surviving are his wife of Kilgore, parents; Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Brent,
Corsicana, and the following brothers and sisters; Alger, Paul, Charles
Ray, Irene, Jimmie and Imagean Brent.
Rites were conducted by Calvin Cook.
Pallbearers were W. J. Johnson, H. Cherry, W. L. Cherry, Harry Neal,
Sidney Hayes and C.C. Booth. Honorary pall bearers were friends of the
family and fellow workers in East Texas.

Bruner - Corsicana, Texas. Jan. 12. - Mrs. N. B. Bruner, for many years a resident of Corsicana, died last night from a stroke of paralysis. She retired at her usual bedtime, apparently in accustomed health. Three daughters survive her. They are Mrs. Minnie Sutton and Mrs. Scott Bagby of
Corsicana and Mrs. Nolen of Taylor. Mrs. Bruner was a sister of General W. H. King, deceased, who was prominent in Texas politics and was Adjutant General under Governor O. M. Roberts' administration. He also represented Hopkins County in the Legislature. Notes:

Brown, aged 56 years, of Shiloh, near Dawson, died in the Navarro Clinic
Saturday afternoon. Funeral rites were held from Shiloh church Sunday
afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial was in the Dresden Cemetery.

W. E. ETHEREDGE PASSED AWAY MONDAY NIGHT FOLLOWING LONG ILLNESS
Funeral services for W. E. (Edgar) Etheredge, aged 45, who died at
his home in the Oak Grove community five miles north of Kerens at
8:30 o’clock Monday night, were held at the Oak Grove Baptist church
at 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Jack
Welch, Baptist minister of Jacksonville. Interment was made in the
Oak Grove cemetery.
Pallabearers were Deedie Etheredge, Dick Etheredge, Elvie Travis,
Elsie B. Travis, Emmett Monroe, and J. A. Travis.
Mr. Etheredge was born and reared in the Oak Grove community and was
known, not only in that community but throughout the eastern part of
the county. He had been in ill health sometime.
Surviving are his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Etheredge,
two sons, Truly Etheredge, Corsicana; Rayward Etheredge, Oak Grove,
and a daughter, Mrs. Jewel Etheredge, Oak Grove; two brothers,
Deedie Etheredge, Kerens; Dick Etheredge, Corsicana and one sister,
Mrs. J. A. Travis, Corsicana and numerous other relatives including
one grandchild.
Mr. Etheredge was also well known in Corsicana where he frequently
visited his sister, Mrs. Travis, his brother, Dick Etheredge, and
his son, Truly Etheredge, who is a member of the pressroom force of
the Sun-Light Publishing Company, and has been for several years.

In Memory.
Edgar Etheredge was born and reared near Kerens, Texas and married
at the age of 18. He lived near Kerens all his life. His health
began to fail about five years ago, and God has called him home to
live with his darling baby, Johnny Fay, on March 24, 1930, his
spirit quietly passed away ridding him of his suffering. He was so
patient and never complaining. He was ready to go, but regretted
leaving his family. He had been a member of the Baptist church at
Oak Grove since he was 17 years of age. He loved his church, was a
devoted husband and father, and a loving son. He was always ready to
make some one happy by some kind deed or word. He leaves a father
and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Etheredge, Kerens; one sister, Mrs.
J. A. Travis, Corsicana; two brothers, Deedie Etheredge, Kerens, and
Dick Etheredge Corsicana; a loving wife and three children, Truly
Etheredge, Corsicana and Miss Jewell and and Rayward Etheredge,
Kerens, and one granddaughter, little Billie June Etheredge,
Corsicana.
He was put away at 3 p.m. March 25, 1930, in Oak Grove cemetery by
loving friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jack Welch,
pastor of his church. On his grave were placed many beautiful
flowers in esteem of love.
A voice from above whispered, “I gave also I took away.” It was our
Father’s voice of love, our consolation, hope, and stay.
We miss you Edgar from thy place. The shadow of your life is gone.
We miss that smile that always cheered us.
Farwell, till in some happy place we will meet again to part no
more. Thy tender memories and care will always be with us. “Tis hard
to break the tender cord when love has bound the heart; “Tis so hard

CORSICANA, Texas. - Mrs. Myrtle Etheredge, 66, long-time Kerens resident, died in a local hospital. Funeral services were held from the Oak Grove Baptist Church Friday, with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Truly Etheredge, Corsicana, and Ray Ward Etheredge, Houston; a daughter, Mrs. C. C. Horn, Corpus Christi; a sister, Mrs. Louis Etheredge, Dallas; two brothers, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Myrtle Etheredge, 66, long-time Kerens resident, died in
Memorial Hospital late Wednesday night following a several days
illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Oak Grove
Baptist church in north east Navarro county with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
The rites will be conducted by Dr. W. M. Shamburger, pastor of the
First Baptist church, assisted by the Rev. M. O. Davis, Kerens
Baptist minister.
Surviving are two sons, Truly Etheredge, Corsicana, and Rayward
Etheredge, Houston, a daughter, Mrs. C.C. Horn, Corpus Christi;
three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Louis
Etheredge, Dallas; two brothers, G. W. Monroe and M. L. Miller, both
of Lancaster, Calif., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Nephews will be pallbearers.

CORSICANA, Texas. - Services for J. H. Elkins, 68, of Route 2, Gladewater, were held at the Corley Chapel. Burial was in the Richland Cemetery. A native of the Cade community, he formerly resided in the Richland area.
Surviving are his wife of Gladewater; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Catherine DeHees of Garland and Mrs. Nothera Batts of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Mrs. Ila White of Richland and Mrs. Dona Garland of Mineola; two brothers, Gordon Elkins and V. J. H. Elkins Dies Sunday Afternoon
J. H. Elkins, 68, Route 2 Gladewater, died in the Corsicana Hospital and
Clinic Sunday afternoon.
Funeral services were held Monday at 3:30 p.m. from the Corley Chapel.
Burial was in the Richland
cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Rev. B. J. Baggett, pastor of the First
Baptist church in Richland, and Rev. Cleon Flanagan, pastor of the
Chatfield Methodist church.
A native of the Cade community, Elkins formerly resided at Richland.
Surviving are his wife of Gladewater; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Catherine
DeHees, Garland, and Mrs. Northea Batts, Corpus Christi; three
grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon and V. J. Elkins, both of Corsicana;
two sisters, Mrs. Ila White, Richland, and Mrs. Dona Garland, Mineola,
and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Neal Brown, Jess Burton, Clyde Cook, Walter Hendon, W.
C. Pearce and J. P. Hodge.

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 29, 2005 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana.
Services will be on Sunday, July 31 at 3 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. in Fairfield. Burial will follow at Birdston Cemetery in Streetman.
Edith was born Jan. 11, 1917 in Eureka to Mary Ella McNair and Homer Melvin Livingston. She grew up in the Cade community and attended Cade school. She graduated from Streetman High School in 1933. In 1935 she married Gordon Alexander Carroll. Edith was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Streetman where she was a Sunday school teacher and was one of two women made elders in the church in 1976.
She is survived by three children: daughter Deanne Vandiver and husband Don of Ennis, son Donald Carroll and wife Linda and daughter Sherrie Minze and husband Glenn, all of Streetman. Grandchildren: Kerry Vandiver and wife Karen; Steve Vandiver and wife Teresa; Jeff Minze and wife Tammy; Bret Carroll and wife Stephanie; Jody Minze and wife Teresa; Amy Farrar and husband Chad; Gene Minze and wife Kelli. Great-grandchildren: Christi Oakes and husband Tommy; Courtney, Chase and Chelsea Vandiver; Cooper Vandiver; Cullen, Colby, Morgan, Mason and Aaron Minze; Jake, Jordan and Josh Farrar and Cade Carroll. Sister: Nell Milner and husband Harris Wilson of Streetman; and brothers-in-law Bill Emerson of Streetman and Richard Steele of Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, siblings: Durward Schley, Frances, Vee, Florene, Johnnie and Kenneth.

A.W. (Dub) Straub, 73, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, July 28, 2005 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village.

Mr. Straub was born Jan. 30, 1932 in Houston. Dub was best known for being a man of unconditional love to his family, devoted husband and servant of the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Sadie Straub and his first wife,
Jane Straub.

Ralph Worth Hawkins, Jr., 63, of Beaumont, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth. Ralph was born on February 24, 1942 in Corsicana, Texas to Ralph and Augusta Hawkins. Raised in Beaumont, he graduated from South Park High School in 1960. A true Aggie throughout his life, Ralph was a proud member of Battlin' B-1 and 1964 graduate of Texas A&M College, College Station, Texas. He retired in 2004 following a thirty-eight year career as senior claims specialist with Farmers Insurance. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Marsha; parents; and brother, Tommy Hawkins all of Beaumont. He is survived by two sons, Kyle Hawkins and his wife Darcy and Ryan Hawkins all of Austin; sister, Janis Womack of Gruene; and two precious grandchildren, Daylen and Dara Hawkins also of Austin. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2005 at Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, July 21, 2005 at the mortuary.  Odessa - Sherman Lee “Newt” Newton, 80, longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born May 31, 1925, in Mirando City. He was raised in Corsicana. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1951, he married Nancy Williamson in Odessa. He worked in the maintenance department for Odessa College for seven years, and worked as a sawman for O.I.M.E. for several years. Since 1992, he owned a yard service co. He is a member of the Eisenhower Church of Christ. He enjoyed reading, watching TV and he loved to tell jokes. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee and Maude Newton; and brother, Phillip Newton.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Newton of Odessa; son, Kevin Lee Newton and finance, Rhonda Perry, of Groesbeck; daughters, Wendy Hamblin and husband, Mike, of San Antonio, and Laura Newton Sawyers of Odessa; brother, Arthur E. Newton of Florida; sister, Zelma Wucher of Austin; and three grandchildren, William Hernandez and Terra and Cody Perry.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Eisenhower Church of Christ with Jeff Sweeten officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ferrell Stiles, 74
Granvil "Ferrell" Stiles, 74, died July 11, 2005, at Providence Extended Care in Anchorage after a lengthy illness.
A service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Witzleben Family Funeral Home, 1707 S. Bragaw St. The Rev. Samuel Dennis will officiate.
Mr. Stiles was born July 4, 1931, in Corsicana, Texas, to Hallie (Lasley) and William Stiles.
After graduating from Dawson High School in Dawson, Texas, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his tour of duty, he returned to the oil fields to continue his career. For 40 years, he extensively traveled the world, running pipe for oil field service companies as a caser. He arrived in Alaska during the mid- '60s to work on the North Slope.
"In true Ferrell fashion, he said when he got to the Slope it was 40 below and the wind was a-howling," his family wrote. "He enjoyed casing and had no desire to ever work in any other industry. In his later years, he worked for The Salvation Army's Older Alaskan Program delivering meals. He enjoyed helping those less fortunate.
"When his daughter was born he beamed for days. He was a loving, devoted, father who thought his daughter 'hung the moon.' He loved doing fun athletic activities like bike rides and long walks. He and Ferretta regularly visited amusement parks, carnivals and county fairs, and he was known to ride any ride she'd ride. No ride gave him fear.
"He loved playing card games of chance, sharing oil field tales, and riding trains."
Mr. Stiles was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, James Featherston.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 22 years, Johnetta Scott Stiles; daughter, Ferretta Stiles, and her fiance, Lamar Facine, of Anchorage; son,
Benjamin Stiles; sisters, Billie Featherston and Nelda Corley; and brother in-law, Donald Corley of Corsicana; niece, Diane Worrell of Carbondale, Ill.; and nephews, Michael Corley of Sanger, Texas, and Jay Corley of Dallas, and six stepchildren.

A graveside service was held July 6 at Lakewood Memorial Park for Robert Daniel Page, 81, of Ceres. He died Friday, July 1, 2005 at his home.
Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Born Aug. 19, 1923, Mr. Page was a native of Corsicana, Texas, and lived in Ceres for 68 years. He was a self-employed masonry contractor for 40 years. Mr. Page was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed horses.
He leaves behind his caregiver, Janet Page of Ceres; his son, Daniel Page of Ceres; two brothers, Gilbert Page of Ceres and Melvin Page of Modesto; six sisters, Marilyn Choate, Shirley Peace and Hattie Marx, all of Ceres, Darlene Blair and Juanita Williams, both of Modesto, and Frances Carter of Denver; and seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma J. Page; children Fred E. Page and Carolyn Belcher; grandchildren Jason Page and Garrett Page; and one brother and two sisters.

Robbie Lee Urquhart Jr.
Robbie Lee Urquhart Jr., 62, of Wylie, died June 10, 2005 in Rowlett.
He was born Oct. 10, 1942 in Corsicana to Robbie Lee Urquhart Sr. and Janell (Griffin) Urquhart. He married JoAnn Lumpkin on Jan. 7, 1961 in San Antonio. He served during the Vietnam War and retired from the U.S. Army in 1979.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Urquhart of Wylie; sons, Karl John Urquhart of New Hope and Robbie Glenn Urquhart of Wylie; daughter, Karen Grooms of West Union, Ohio; eight grandchildren; brother, Carl Grady Arnold of Navarro; and sister, Rhonda Gal Albritton of Corsicana.

Laura Belle (Tipping) James

Laura Belle James, 105, of Lampasas, formerly of Corsicana, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Wallace officiating. Interment will follow at Petty’s Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Josh Wallace, Jordan Wallace, Aaron Barton, Turner Barton, John Smith and Shawn Bender.
Mrs. James was born Nov. 7, 1899 in Chatfield. She lived in Blooming Grove when she met J. E. James. She met him the first time when she was 16 years old (1915). Her cousin brought him to their house to pick cotton. He lived in Kerens and when he would come to see her he would ride his bicycle. She got married when she was 21 and he was 22. He was ordained in 1932 and started preaching. Edith was born that year. A baby boy Alton Edith who died at the age of 21 months old of pneumonia was born in 1922. Louise (Lucy) was born in 1924 and another daughter Mary Lois was born in 1928. She passed away in 1962 from a brain tumor. J. E. pastored a lot of different churches until he passed away in 1967 with leukemia. He was a pastor at Petty’s Chapel, a church in Corsicana. That’s where J.E. was buried.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. J. E. James, son Alton James and daughters Mary Lois Hoggatt and Floy Edith Black.
Survivors include daughter Lucy Wallace of Lampasas; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brother Emory Tipping of Dallas; and sisters Bethel Lewis and Vera Hester of Corsicana.

James Katherine (Jimmie Kate) Roxburgh Bledsoe
 James Katherine (Jimmie Kate) Roxburgh Bledsoe died Saturday, July 30, 2005 at the age of 86 at North Pointe Nursing Home, Watauga. She was born to the union of James Armour Roxburgh and Hettie Marlow Roxburgh on Aug. 10, 1918 in Denton County. They named her James Katherine. She was often known as Jimmie or Kimmie Kate. To family she was Boe.
Her parents moved back to their hometown, Corsicana, where Jimmie attended kindergarten through high school. She graduated high school in May 1936. In 1939 she attended Bethel College in McKenzie, Tenn. On July 29, 1940 she married Marvin Cockrell Bledsoe. They continued their college education at Westminster College in Tehuacana and at Southwestern University in Georgetown. Her son, Marvin Michael was born on April 29, 1952 in Corsicana.
Jimmie began teaching in public school when they lived in Jarrell. She continued teaching in Rice and Corsicana. She served as a pastor’s wife for 46 years, a role she took very seriously, in the Methodist churches her husband was assigned to. She taught Sunday School for 50 years, having begun with a 10-year-old girls class when she was 17.
She shared her poems and songs through the years and played the piano for a lifetime.
Jimmie was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Cockrell Bledsoe; sisters Dura R. Clarke and Margaret Gordon, both of Midland; brother John Roxburgh of New Orleans; and nephew Edward Lionel Clark of Austin.
Jimmie is survived by son Marvin Michael Bledsoe and God-given son Gary Michael Shephard of Haslet; grandson Benjamin Michael Bledsoe of Dallas; God-given daughters Sarah Ting of Richardson and Lumia Heyno of Toronto, Canada; sister Marie R. Coleman of Midland; cousin Tommy Roxburgh of Dallas; nephew James L. Gordon of Lubbock; nieces Judith Clarke of Midland, Jerry Lynn Roxburgh Gadberry of Hope, Ark. and Dr. Rebecca R. Butler of Saint

He was born on December 7, 1931 in Eureka, Texas to John Calhoun & Ethel Elizabeth Warner. He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corp. after 20 years of service to his country. Jack L. English Sr. died Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Graham Oaks Care Center after a brief illness. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Monday, July 25.
Mr. English was born July 21, 1926, in Frost where he attended primary and secondary school. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II in the siege of Okinawa and the occupation of Japan after the war. He later enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as an instructor at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls. He was a graduate of East Texas State University, earning a bachelor of science degree in vocational agriculture and an master of arts degree in elementary education. He taught at Holliday High School, Richardson Junior High and at Lee High School in Midland before moving to Graham in 1983 as the ICT coordinator at Graham High School. After he retired from teaching, he worked for Davidson Motors. He helped establish the literacy program for Young County inmates and probationers sponsored by Texas State Teachers Association and the Young County Sheriffs Department. He worked for eight years as an adult probation officer for the 90th Judicial District until 1999. He served two terms on the Graham School Board from 1988 until 1994. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars 8567. He was also a member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sally English of Graham; a brother, Roscoe English of Seymour; a sister, Mary Morton of Denton; two sons, Jack L. English Jr. of Garland and Mark W. VALDOSTA — Mrs. Jack Wilkerson, 75, of Valdosta, died on Monday, July 11, 2005, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on Dec. 24, 1929, in Dawson, Texas, she was the daughter of the late L. E. Sr. and Nettie Jane Blakley Black. Mrs. Wilkerson was a housewife and a member of Lakeland Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jack Wilkerson of Valdosta; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Jeannine Wilkerson, Rick and Joy Wilkerson, all of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Phillip Beach of Arab, Ala., Kathi and John Williams of Valdosta; sister, Martha Eberhard of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law, Florence Black of Waco, Texas; brothers-in-law, Frank Wilkerson and his wife Maydell of Callahan, Fla., Ferrell Herring of Ray City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, John David Williams Jr.; brother, L.E. Black Jr.; sisters, Letha Faye Jackson, Francis White; brothers-in-law, David Eberhard, Henry Wilkerson; sister-in-law, Myrtle Herring; father-in-law, W.W. Wilkerson; and mother-in-law, Mary Alvera Wilkerson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wilkerson will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mardy Gardner and the Rev. Jim Schappaugh will officiate. Burial will follow in Cat Creek

Born May 15, 1940 in Clarksville to Clarence Dewayne Eastman and Mavel Orene Smith, she died Tuesday July 12, 2005 in Dallas.
She attended Central High School and married Thomas Lee Taylor Dec. 21, 1955.
She was a member of Hopewell Assembly of God Church.
Her hobbies were sewing, gardening and yard work.
Preceded in death by her parents; children, Denise Erlean Taylor and Thomas Earl Taylor; son-in-law, Terry Sheer; brothers, Clarence D. Eastman, Calvin Gerald Eastman and Randy Lee Eastman; and great grandson, Alexander Taylor; she is survived by her husband of 49 years; children, Tim Taylor of Ennis, Rhonda Sheer of Garland, Laurie Hart and her husband Kenneth of Ennis, and Loretta Lippold abd her husband Tony of Hungary; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; five sisters, Donna Stephens of German, Texas, Evelyn Lambert of Roane, Jean Majkazak of Wortham, Jan Rhodes of Wortham and Patsy Tucker of Rice; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Chatfield Cemetery in Chatfield.

the chapel of the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Ennis
with Brother W. W. Bryant and Brother Robert Jensen officiating.
Interment will follow in the Chatfield Cemetery

Graveside inurnment services for longtime Cortez resident Ralph Eli Jordan Sr., will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 25 at the Cahone Cemetery. Shelby Smith will officiate.
Visitation has been set for 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Ertel Memorial Chapel.
Ralph was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Corsicana, Texas, the son of Walter and Ollie (French) Jordan. He died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at the Vista Grande Nursing Home at the age of 91.
Surviving Ralph are his children, Ralph E. Jordan Jr. and wife, Virginia, of Beaumont, Texas, and Patricia J. English of Austin, Texas. He leaves six grandchildren, John Christopher Jordan of Houston, Texas, Jason Scott Jordan of Beaumont, Texas, Carey Christine Jordan of Houston, Sarah Bruce, Katherine English both of Austin, Texas, and Elliot English of Missoula, Mont.; a great-grandson, Blake Hartley Hetherington of Houston; and a brother, Willard Jordan and wife, Dodie, of Carlsbad, N.M. Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Ruby Helena (Cruzan) Jordan.
Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.

MISSION - Frances Laverne Edwards, 81, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2005 in McAllen, Texas. Mrs. Edwards was born on July 15, 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe K. Cook in Frost, Texas.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by five children, three sons, Kenneth (Judy Faye) Edwards of Bayou Vista, Texas, Rickey (Maureen) Edwards of Alice, Texas, and Donald Eugene Edwards of Florence, Texas; two daughters, Martha Sharon (David) Raleigh of McAllen, Texas, and Judith Ann (Michael) Pullen of McAllen, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Edwards will be form 2 to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. today, September 5, 2005 at Virgil Wilson Mortuary in Mission, Texas. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, Texas.
