In Memory of Mary Hart

I know as I stand by the bedside
Where death’s dark shadows fall
And the light of faith seems useless
To cheer, or lift the dreadful pall
That under the blighting sting or sorrow
By the mourner seldom guessed
Lies hid the balm of the Master,
For whatever is, is best.

I know that the yearnings and the longings,
Sometimes seem too great to bear.
That the heart turns back from its training.
And that hope is wed to despair.
I know there must be tears and anguish
And I know the weary long for rest.
And know, I know that God is goodness,
And whatever is, is best.

When word flew over Corsicana that Mary Alice Hart had passed away, there was universal sorrow. Possessed of an alert and interesting personality, she had endeared herself to an unusually large circle of friends.

Charming and gracious and friendly, hers was a friendship which could be relied on to do the proper friendly act at the right time.

Death is always a painful shock to loved ones and friends, but she was upheld by the presence of God and His loving kindness, so that everlasting rest has been granted her.

And so the curtain falls for Mary Hart, but we who are left behind will always love and think of her as one who made this old world better for having lived in it.

And when the final shadows fall for you and I and we answer the last great summons, may we too, be upheld in God’s loving arms.
