Claude Edwards

CLAUDE EDWARDS, 86, of Los Alamos died November 29, 2005.
He was born in Corsicana, Texas. He married his wife Jean on August 8, 1992 in Crab Apple, Texas. He was in the United States Army and Navy in World War II. He was a machinist with Halliburton and Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Morris and John; sisters, Hazel and Fanny Lee; and his first wife, Ruth.
He is survived by his wife, Jean K. Edwards of Los Alamos; sons, Mark and wife, Karen, of Los Lunas, Mike of Wichita, Kan. and Tom and wife, Hila, of Rockledge, Fla.; daughter, Kathleen and husband, Bob, of Los Alamos; six grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Diabetes Foundation. Burial services will be held at a later date in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Funeral held for Rosemary Farmer
Sunday, November 20, 2005

Funeral services for Rosemary Farmer, 64, of Andrews will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the First Baptist Church in Andrews with Ron Farmer of Lakeview Christian Church in Andrews and Dr. Jeff Donnell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.
She died on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at her residence in Andrews.

She was born Dec. 13, 1940, in McKinney to Columbus Russell Giles, Jr. and Rosalia Williams. She graduated from Corsicana High School in 1958 and married Wayne Farmer on September 10, 1957, in Corsicana.
They moved to Andrews in 1959 where she worked as a clerk at Piggly Wiggly for 12 years and Albertsons in Odessa and Midland for 14 years.
Her husband served for many years as sheriff for Andrews County, and she served as the First Lady of the Sheriff’s Association of the State of Texas.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Andrews and the First Baptist Church in Cloudcroft, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Justin Farmer.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Farmer of Andrews; a daughter, Kay Andrews of Brady; a son, Ron Farmer of Andrews; two sisters, Diane Quarles of Corsicana and Joan Tindle of Odessa and six grandchildren.

Helen Merrell

Helen Lane Merrell, 69, of Texarkana, Texas, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Merrell was born June 19, 1936, in Corsicana, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Merrell.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lela Merrell, Jackie and Dennis Hughes and Jo and John Weeden of Texarkana; two brothers, Tom Lane of Benton, La., and Jimmy Lane of Crowley, Texas; one sister, Rosemary Owens of Loxahatchee, Fla.; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens with Dexter Hughes and Dennis Hughes officiating. Burial will be under direction of East Funeral Home, Downtown.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.


Joan R. Lenamond

Joan R. Lenamond Graveside Services Held December 22
Joan Rasco Lenamond, age 80 of Thornton passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2005 in Groesbeck.
Graveside services were held on Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Cobb Cemetery with Minister Billie Ridge officiating.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, December 24 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Mexia.
Joan was born on March 21, 1925 in Corsicana. She was a 1944 graduate of Thornton High School. She married Clell Lenamond on October 19, 1945 in Dallas.
She loved to write poetry and had written several in which one was published. Joan had a love of music and enjoyed playing the piano.
Survivors include her husband, Clell Lenamond of Thornton; three sons: Mike Clell Lenamond of Lancaster, Kim Lenamond and wife Marsha of Lancaster, and Kyle Lenamond and wife Sharon of Rowlett; six grandchildren: Adam Lenamond, Blake Lenamond, Joshua Lenamond, Amy Hiscock, Natalie Lanamond and Lynsey Jackson; and four great-grandchildren: Colby Ramirez, Jessica Lenamond, Morgan Lenamond and Ashlynne Hiscock.

Pearl Aline (Huff) Standridge
February 17, 1924 - ?

Pearl Aline Standridge, 81, went home to heaven to be with the Lord on Thursday in the Heritage Villa Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Joe Dan Fowler officiating. Internment will be in the White Rose Cemetery directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.

A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church Music Ministry, P.O. Box 1080, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74005 for those who wish to donate in Mrs. Standridge's memory.

Pearl Aline Standridge was born on February 17, 1924 in Corsicana, Texas to Jim and Grace Huff. She married Raymond Standridge in December of 1940 in Royalty, Texas. Pearl and Raymond made their home in Bartlesville beginning in 1944. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She loved to fish, travel, work in her yard, visit family and she was always ready to go somewhere. She loved her church, First Baptist, her Sunday School class and her choir, where she was a faithful member for many years. Her last employment before retirement was with Eldercare, where she volunteered until she became ill. She had a host of friends and everyone loved her. She loved the Lord and she loved life and her family. She fought a brave fight for life and independence from the stroke she suffered in June of this year. Her life epitomized what is described in the Bible as “a virtuous woman.” She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Standridge is survived by three daughters and a son; Kay Standridge of Bartlesville, Patty Sturgeon and her husband Bobby of Hernando, Mississippi, Edna Jackson and her husband Bob of Owasso and Raymond Standridge, Jr. and his wife Deedie of Bartlesville, one brother Jack Huff of Tucson, Arizona, many nieces and nephews, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in September of 1978.

Roy Lynn Nabors Funeral Services Held October 21
Roy Lynn Nabors, age 50, of Thornton, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2005 in Thornton.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 21, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Tucker officiating.
Roy was born on August 22, 1955 in Corsicana to John Wesley and Mary Bell (Kissinger) Nabors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Nabors and Mary (Nabors) Carlock and a brother, Lloyd Nabors.
Survivors include his daughter, Kristi Nabors of Bremond; brother, Johnny Nabors of Bastrop; sister, Kathy Nabors of Jewett; mother of his daughter, Cheryl Williams of Bremond; long time companion, Gayla Nabors of Groesbeck; several nephews, nieces and numerous relatives and friends.

Pauline McMaster

Graveside services for Pauline Katherine Williams McMaster, 85, Tyler, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 26, at Union Chapel Cemetery, Van, with Mark Christy officiating.
Mrs. McMaster died September 21, 2005, in Tyler.
She was born March 10, 1920, in Corsicana. She worked in retail sales and was a member of Van Church of Christ. She resided in Midland, Fort Worth, Lubbock and Odessa prior to moving to Van four years ago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Loftin and Suella Reppond Williams; and husband, Mac McMaster.
Survivors include son, Jimmy “Jim” Tanksley, Mansfield; daughter, Sandra Jones, Austin; brother, Desmond Williams, Van; sisters, Maewoen “Mae” Slate and Nalda Davis, both of Van; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.


Billy B. Lowe

CRANE - Billy B. Lowe, 79, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2005, in his home in Odessa.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. in the Crane County Cemetery.
Billy was born in Corsicana, Texas, on July 15, 1926. He and his family moved to Crane when he was three years old and he graduated from Crane High School. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Marines. He was a very proud and patriotic man.
Billy is preceded in death by his father, Paul Lowe, and his mother, Myrtle Lowe and a son, Ben David Lowe.
Billy married his wife Joyce McCollum, December 18, 2001 and had three very happy years together.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, sons; Roger Lowe of Claremore, Oklahoma, Billy Paul Lowe, also of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Richard Lowe of Costa Rica, David McCullom of Odessa, Robert McCullom, of Odessa, Charles McCollum of Odessa, and Terry McCollum of Denton, Texas. Billy had daughters; Carroll Woods of Odessa, Denise Tursick of Denver, Colorado, Rebecca Muratet of Chelsea, Oklahoma, Barbara Hallmark, of Odessa, Cathy Terry also of Odessa, and a first cousin David Eastwood of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Billy had 32 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He had many friends who loved and adored him. He will be missed by all.
Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral home.

Barbara (Jones) Taylor

Funeral service for Barbara Jones Taylor, 103, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 23, 2005 in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home.

Barbara Jones Taylor was born February 22, 1902 near Dawson, Navarro County, Texas to Samuel Houston Jones and Laura Pearson Jones and died December 20, 2005 in Noble, Oklahoma.

The family moved from Dawson to Paducha, Texas in 1907. Her mother became ill on the train trip and died soon after they arrived. They moved to Rush Springs, Grady County, Oklahoma in 1911. Barbara married Arthur Eugene Taylor in Wichita Falls, Texas on September 26, 1919 and lived in Grady County until 1957.

Barbara was a long time member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Her hobbies were playing dominoes with family and friends, quilting, crocheting, and baking cookies for neighborhood children.

Barbara was preceded in death by: Her parents: Samuel Houston and Laura Pearson Jones; Her husband; five brothers: Archie, Charlie, Erby, Finis, and Sam Jones; three sons: Floyd, Jim and Carl Taylor; Son-in-law: C. W. Cooper; three grandsons: Eugene Taylor, David Cooper and Jerry Bryant; Grandson-in-law: Vernon Lee;

Survivors include: Children: Ivon and Tom Neal, Jean and Dale Bryant, Jo Cooper, Eddie and Ann Taylor, Larry Taylor, Daughters-in-law: Delois Hicks Taylor, Mary Hearne Taylor; Granddaughters: Barbara Neal, Judy Lee, Gail Bryant, Lynne and Mark Yeager, Becky and Eric Smith, Debbie and Bobby Sifers, Janice and Rob Sutterfield, Laurie and Paul Berry, Dana and Kevin McCroskey, Carla and Mike Murray, Cathy Taylor and Kevin Thompson; Grandsons: Brett and Denise Taylor, Sam and Kelly Taylor, Doug Cooper, Don Taylor and Michael Taylor; 31 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren.

Homer Thomas Goodwin, Rev.

Homer Thomas Goodwin

Rev. Homer Thomas Goodwin, a resident of Manor and Austin, Texas for the past thirteen years, was born April 3, 1913, in Jester, Navarro County, Texas, to John William Goodwin and Emma Eula Herrin, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 in Austin, Texas, at the age of 92 years.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Thelma Goodwin, their children and spouses, Betty and Jerry Shepperd, Nova and Charley Pierson, and John and Amonna Sue Goodwin, and their daughter-in-law, Sandra Goodwin Clopine.

A son, Sidney Goodwin and a grandson, Bruce Shepperd, preceded him in death. In addition, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Annie Bell Johnson, Sarah Emma Dees, Willie Hazeltine Godfrey, and his only brother, John Clarence Goodwin.

His surviving grandchildren are Gwenda Stewart and husband William, Donna Shepperd, Regina Vickers and husband Ricky, Karen Goodwin, Cherisse Goodwin, Laneice Goodwin, Joy Pierson, Ruth Pierson, Nanette Pierson, and Thomas Pierson, and by his great grandchildren, Caitlin Stewart, Kelly Stewart, and R. J. Vickers. In addition, he leaves behind a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many friends.

Homer Goodwin and Thelma Tucker were united in marriage on August 20, 1932, in Dallas, Texas. They attended Shield of Faith Bible Institute in Amarillo, Texas, which later merged with Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Waxahachie, Texas. Immediately after graduation in 1935, they entered full-time ministry. In 1936 they received appointment for foreign missionary service and in January, 1937 they sailed on an old freighter ship from New York for the Gold Coast, West Africa, now called Ghana, where they spent many years as pastors, evangelists, and Bible institute teachers.

Homer Goodwin continued to minister as a missionary and pastor into his eighties. The most recent churches he served were in Hereford, Combes, and Midland, Texas. During his years as a minister, he also held various official positions in the Assemblies of God, including district secretary-treasurer, presbyter, and missions director. He also served as a general presbyter for the national organization and on the Board of Directors for Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

Visitation with family will be Monday, December 26, 2005, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.

The memorial service for Homer Thomas Goodwin will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.

Brooklyn Runnels, 69, of Garland was born August 8, 1936 and passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Arapaho Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Ashburn officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Beeman Cemetery in Retreat.

Mr. Runnels was employed by Texas Instruments for 33 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, A. L. Runnels.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Fay Runnels; sons, Steven and wife, Gina, Keith and wife, Brooke; mother, Velma; brothers, David and Kelton; sister, Evelyn Girratano; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Payton, Delaney and Reagan.

Merrill ‘Bud’ Thompson

Merrill “Bud” Thompson, 70, of Dawson passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at his home near Navarro Mills Lake. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Wade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Howell officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery near Dawson.

Bud was born Aug. 5, 1935, in Longmont, Colo. He was a truck driver who was working at 2K Trucking Company after having retired from Trinity Steel. He had lived in the Navarro Mills Lake area for the past 10 years and was a member of That Church in Corsicana. Bud also conducted a jail ministry in Corsicana and held a Bible study at the Dream Center in Corsicana. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Delbert Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Estene Thompson of Dawson; his mother, Beula Thompson of Salem, Ore.; two sons, David Rogers and wife Patsy of Dawson and Eddie Rogers of Dawson; a daughter, Rhonda Kay of Colorado; two sisters, Sharon E. Tavera of Salem, Ore., and Lura McCoy of Washington; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Jeffrey Thomas Schafer, born March 2, 1968 in Nashville, IL and passed away Dec. 30, 2005 in Corsicana.

Jeff is survived by his beloved wife Jessica Owens and son, Jarrett Schafer of Corsicana; parents, Tom and Kathleen Schafer of Richardson; sisters Barbara Cross and husband Dean of Dallas and Cynthia Dodson and husband Ken of Decatur; mother and father-in-law, Jerry and Judy Owens of Corsicana, sister-in-law, Jennifer Putman and husband Wayne of Corsicana; brother-in-law John Owens and wife Jennifer of Fort Worth and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeff attended high school in New Jersey before moving to Texas and graduating from Berkner High School in Richardson. He was an avid sports enthusiast and softball player. Jeff’s biggest achievement was raising his 8 year old autistic son.

Jeff was a caring son, a loving husband, a wonderful father, a mischievous brother and a beloved friend to all. He will be missed greatly.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church locate at 600 S. Jupiter in Richardson.

The family will also receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006 with a service held at 7 p.m. at the Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Putman, John Owens, Wayne Powell, Justin Cooper, Scott Shehorn and Jorge Olavarrieta. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Kennedy, Jonathan Knape, Jeff Merrill, Allen Cobbs, Jeff Haas, Mike Mitchell, Robert Mintz, Randy Estes, David Grandstaff, David Cowley and Craig O’Dell.

Mary Marie Walker, 69, of Barry passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, in Tyler.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Dresden Cemetery with the Rev. James Haynes officiating.

Mrs. Walker was born June 28, 1936, in Rankin. She was the sales manager for The Golden Hanger store for 11 years. She was a member of Barry United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Norwood; and parents, Paul Wesley and Estell Coker.

Survivors include her husband, James A. Walker of Barry; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Donna Norwood of Pensacola, Fla.; sister, Betty Smith of Troup; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two nephews and their wives, two great-nieces and two great-nephews.

Mr. Chewning was born March 29, 1911, in Petty’s Chapel in Navarro County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wyatt and Alice Chewning; and great-granddaughter, Madalyn Hughes.

Survivors include his wife, Erna Chewning of Powell; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy Ann Harwell and husband Jeff of Tupelo and Billie Jo Marshall and husband Jim of Houston; five grandchildren, Carol Filak and husband John, Sandi Fletcher and husband Todd, Eric Harwell and wife Nanette, Nikki Matthews and Nancy Hughes and husband Lance; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Barbara Jean Cockerham, 60, of Italy passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at her residence. She was born May 18, 1945, in Dallas to Warren W. and Carrie Jean (Goodman) Ferguson. She was a registered nurse at Medical Arts Clinic in Corsicana and was a member of First Baptist Church in Italy.

Her survivors include her parents, Warren and Carrie Ferguson of Mertens; husband, Darrell Cockerham of Italy; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Ronda Cockerham of Italy; daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Jerry Burch of Mechanicsville, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Linda Ferguson of Bryan; and eight grandchildren, Morgan, Taylor, Reagan and Halee, John, Jordan, Jillian and Jacob.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Italy Boze Chapel, 161 W. Main, Italy. The celebration of her life will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Italy Boze Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Dabney officiating. Interment will follow at Richland Cemetery in Mertens.

Fannie ‘Ma Ma’ Dubose

Fannie “Ma Ma” Dubose, 79, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev. Robert Cecil officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. Dubose was born March 2, 1926, in Madisonville. She was a waitress in several restaurants in Corsicana until she retired from Holiday Inn in 1990. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Dubose Sr.; mother, Millie Vaughan; sons, Rex Dubose Jr. and William Wade Bonds; and grandson, William Burl Dubose.

Scott Jeffery Moranda, 53, of Corsicana, Tex., died December 29, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Maureen Moranda; and a child, Morgan Moranda, of Corsicana, Tex., three children in Deposit, N.Y., Scott K. Moranda, Amber Moranda, and Ashleigh Moranda. Michael Eugene Bates went to be with the Lord Jan. 6, 2006, at the age 45. He was born May 29, 1960.

Michael was a fighter through his illness and was known to all as our “Hero.” He loved his children very much and was especially proud of his new grandbaby. Michael was the strength that brought his family together and always looked forward to celebrations with them on special occasions. Michael worked for the City Environmental Services of Corsicana from 1986 through 1999 until he took retirement due to his disability and then enjoyed his cows and tractor and spending time with his family and friends. He also had many hobbies: hunting, fishing, gardening, cows, tractors, and guitars that he greatly enjoyed.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Chet Brake officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Leila F. Salter

Leila F. Salter, 86, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2006, in Corsicana. She was born July 29, 1919 and grew up in Southern California, taking several secretarial jobs there. She married Richard D. Salter on May 7, 1944, after his return from combat duty in the Aleutian Islands during World War II.

After military life in many U.S. cities, and in the Philippine Islands for two years, they retired to Corsicana in 1968 and became active in the cattle business and in Republican politics.

Mrs. Salter attained the Certified Professional Secretary rating and was active in the Professional Secretaries International Organization.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Salter, daughter Margaret (Peggy) Jacobs, and by her parents and two brothers, Spencer and Robert Hodgson.

She is survived by her daughter Helen Salter of Columbia MD., and son Donald of Beaumont; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren of Southfield, MI.; three sister-in-laws, and several nieces and nephews.

The family is honoring her request for no services and no flowers. Arrangements for cremation are under the supervision of Corley Funeral Home.

CORSICANA, Texas — Helen Shipman White, 87, died Jan. 7, 2006, at the Heritage Oaks Nursing Home in Corsicana.

Born Oct. 29, 1918, in Eldorado, Ill., daughter of the late George and Izaria Wells Crowe, she had lived in Dexter, Mo., for many years before moving to Texas five years ago. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. Tuesday until time for services at 3 p.m. at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter with Dan Sitze of Bloomfield, Mo., officiating.

Billy Derwood Gorden, Sr.

Mr. Gorden was born April 27, 1926 in Blooming Grove, Texas and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday January 10, 2006.
Billy was a precious man who was loved by all who knew him. Billy loved to be with his family and enjoyed camping and fishing with them.

Billy joined the Marines on October 12, 1943 serving as a heavy truck driver on the Pacific Island of Pelelius. He received numerous medals including the Purple Heart.

He married Ruby Inez Odom on February 17, 1945 and was a faithful husband for 60 years and a loving daddy.

Bill was a lifetime member of the D.V.A. and the V.F.W.

Bill is survived by his wife Inez, sons Billy Jr. and Nelda Gorden, Donald Wayne and Joyce Gorden, and Rodney Lee and Mona Gorden, grandchildren Terry, Tim, Tony, Chris Gorden; Donald Jr., Patrick, Amber Gorden, Lance and Laury Gorden. Billy also had 16 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Mr. Montgomery Edward Trimble 91 of Corsicana passed away at Heritage Oaks West on Tuesday, January 10, 2006. He was born on March 27, 1914 in Coke County, Texas near Robert Lee. He was the youngest of eight children. He married Daisy Rives on December 14, 1934. He farmed and ranched in Coke County for most of his life. Graveside services are to be held on Friday January 13 at 11:00 A.M. at the Robert Lee Cemetery in Robert Lee, Texas. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, his Son Monty and wife Vicki of Corsicana; two grandsons, Dr. Monty Trimble and his wife Lesley of Fort Worth and Charles Edward Trimble of McKinney. Great-grandchildren are Jonathan, Elizabeth and Rachel of Fort Worth.

Mae Lizzie Butcher Roberson, 88, of Corsicana passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at M.R. Smith Parlor for Funerals.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Greater Wilgo Baptist Church with the Rev. Arthur C. Faulk officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park.

Roberson and wife Bertha, Charles Roberson and wife Alice, all of Corsicana, and Lee Roger Roberson and wife Willie Jean of Dallas; three daughters, Emma Morris and Eddie Mae Knox and husband Zelmer, all of Dallas, and Dorothy Gray of Corsicana; 26 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Cordell Butcher, Callie Rouchell and Febline Demings and husband Harlan, all of Dallas; one sister-in-law, Edna Hann of Dallas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edd Roberson Jr.; sons, Adell Powell and Billy Roberson; and two brothers.

KERENS, March 24. - (Spl.) - Funeral services for J. W. Paul, who died at his home in Oak Grove March 20, were held Sunday afternoon at Long Prairie with Rev. T. R. Vaughan officiating.  Mr. Paul was born in Alabama, but moved to Texas in early childhood and resided in the rural Shade community until a short time ago when he moved to Oak Grove.  he was married to Miss Fannie Ticer of Tupelo in 1904 and to this union 11 children were born, all of whom survive.  They are Jake, Ernest, Vernon, Ray, Calvin, Vera Lee, Miriam and Leona Paul, and Mrs. R. Scott and Mrs. D. S. Cunningham all of Kerens.  he is also survived by a brother, W. M. Paul, and a sister, Mrs. H. J. Cockrell, both of Rural Shade.

Fidencio “Felix” Valdez was born Nov. 16, 1946, in Corsicana to Patricio and Maria Valdez. Felix passed away Jan. 11, 2006, in Corsicana. He was raised in Corsicana and after graduating high school he entered the U.S. Army. Felix served in the Army during Vietnam and was discharged in 1970. After the service Felix moved to Kaufman in 1972 where he worked for Pool Furniture for many years and then worked for Trinity Valley Electric Coop for five years. Felix was a member of the Kaufman VFW and the American Legion.

Felix is survived by his mother, Maria B. Valdez of Corsicana; sons, Ricardo Valdez of Kaufman and Vicente Valdez of Irving; brother, Patricio Valdez Jr. of Balch Springs; sisters, Vickie Vasquez and Linda Estrada, both of Corsicana; grandson, Cristian Antonio Valdez; nieces, Oralia Soni, Sonya Soni, Lucy Gonzalez, Connie Aviles, Rosaisela and Makayla; nephews, Edgar Yvon, Chris Vasquez, Julius and Semaj.

Fidencio “Felix” Valdez was born in Corsicana, Texas on November 16, 1946 to Patricio and Maria Valdez. Felix passed away in Corsicana on January 11, 2006.

He was raised in Corsicana and after graduating high school he entered the US Army. Felix served in the army during the Viet Nam War and was discharged in 1970. William Charles “Bill” Kerby, 83, or Eustace and formerly of Dawson, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 at a Tyler hospital. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 13 at Dawson Cemetery with Rev. Brad Brittain officiating.

Bill was born Oct. 16, 1922 in Coolidge to William Burney and Lowis (Prague) Kerby. He was a longtime area rancher and farmer, a Methodist and an Air Force veteran.

Ann Scarborough Johnson, lifelong Corsicana resident, died at home early Friday morning after a lengthy illness. She was 78.
Born in Corsicana, she was the daughter of of Judge Thomas Hawkins Scarborough and Bessie Miller Scarborough, and the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. T.A. Miller. She was pre-deceased by her husband Clyde E. Johnson, Sr.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine L. Johnson of Corsicana; son Robert G. Johnson of Virginia; daughter Amanda Clanton of Mississippi; son Ed Johnson also of Corsicana; and two grandsons, Steven and Dillon Beevers of Mississippi.

Services will be held Tuesday, January 17th at 3:00 p.m., at St. John's Episcopal Church with Revs. Ed Monk and Patrick Miller officiating. Following the service, the family will host a reception at home, 516 S. 15th Street.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. John's Episcopal Church.

Kenneth Mahoney “Pop”
Kenneth Mahoney, 71, of Trinidad and formerly of Corsicana, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at East Texas Medical Center in Athens with his family and friends by his side.
Born in Rural Shade on June 20, 1934, he lived on the Albritton Ranch with his father Clyde, mother Myrtle Mahoney and sister Helen, all preceding him in death.
He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church of Malakoff.
A life-long mechanic, he worked for International Harvestor and Sirman Lincoln Mercury before starting his own business in Corsicana.
At the “Garage behind the bowling alley”, he spent many a year working and rebuilding a variety of cars and trucks. After retiring to the Cedar Creek Lake Area, he built himself another shop at his residence where he continues working on small tractors, lawnmowers and small engines.
He leaves behind his loving wife Wanda Mahoney, son Kenneth Mahoney Jr. and wife Betty; daughter Alisha Reese; grandsons Charles Mahoney, Kevin Reese and Trevor Martin and granddaughter Tabitha Brotherton and husband Scott, great-grandson Travis Brotherton; niece Gaynelle McGee and nephew Kenneth Weaver.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hamilton-Beamon Cemetery in Retreat.

Robert Glen Biggers

CORSICANA, Texas - Graveside services for Robert Glen Biggers, 79, of Corsicana, who died of heart failure Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Navarro Regional Hospital, were at 3 p.m. Monday in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Biggers was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a Mason. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Biggers.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Biggers of Corsicana; a daughter, Susan Smith of Corsicana; a son, Robert Biggers of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Merle Gray of Blanco, Texas, and Margie Oliver of Winona; one brother, Morris Biggers of Winona; and three grandchildren.

Ben F. Stroder Jr., 88, of Richland Hills died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home, with internment at Eureka Cemetery in Corsicana.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the First National Bank of Fort Worth Retirees' Association.

Ben was born in Fort Worth on Dec. 6, 1917. A graduate of Central High School, he was awarded a degree from Texas Christian University and graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.
Ben joined First National Bank of Fort Worth in 1939 and retired in 1982. He was a vice president in real estate lending, a former member of the Fort Worth Real Estate Board and the Society of Residential Appraisers.
Ben was an avid bowler and helped create the Cowtown Bankers Bowling
League. A member of the American Bowling Congress for 53 years, he was past vice president and director of the Fort Worth Bowling Association.
Ben was one of the organizers of the First National Bank of Fort Worth Retirees' Association, serving as the first president and then the permanent secretary. He was also a member of Broadway Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Trixsy M. and Ben F. Stroder Sr., Ben was preceded in death by his sister, Christine S. Schneider.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Nelda S. Stroder; their nieces and nephews, Rebecca Hayes, Lillie Kissel, Chris Wilson and Ricky Wilson; many cousins; and a host of friends.

Funeral services for a native Navarro Countain B. F. (Ben) Stroder, 92, longtime Fort Worth resident and retired post office employee, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cole Funeral Home in Fort Worth. Graveside rites and burial will follow at 1 p.m. Friday at the Eureka Cemetery.
He was born in the community of Navarro and was a teacher in several county schools before moving to Fort Worth and joining the postal service. He died Wednesday in a Fort Worth hospital. He was a Baptist.

Kerr Cowan
Kerr Bicknell Cowan, 93, of Corsicana passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2006 at the family home, where he was born 93 years ago on June 24, 1912.

Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery with Father Edward Monk officiating.

Born to Horace Kerr Cowan and Virginia Bicknell Cowan, He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, A honor student from Corsicana High School in 1929, He went on with a scholarship to New York University. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1968, having served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the China-Burma-India Theater working on the supply line across the Himalayan Mountains.

Survivors include wife of 63 years Iris Cowan of Corsicana; son Clinton Kerr Cowan of Corsicana; daughter and husband Bickie and Alan Roberts of Mabank; grandchildren Jeffrey Alan Roberts, Page Roberts and Lauren Roberts; and great-granddaughter Autumn Roberts.

Foy Brown

Foy Brown, 88, of Kerens passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at Cedar Lake Nursing Home in Malakoff.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Paschal Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Frank Upchurch and the Rev. Wes Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Point Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Homer Gene Wasson, Lawrence McBride, Jerry Crocker, Roy Gerald Tramel, Billy Tramel and Kenneth Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be Blair Watt, Jimmie Spencer, Roy Gene Brown, Tommy Spivey, B.H. Upchurch and Billy Ray Brown.

Mr. Brown was born Sept. 5, 1917, in Kerens. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He retired after 32 years with Lone Star Gas Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Brown; parents, Comeluis and Annie Mae Brown; foster parents, Jasper and Sarah Tramel; son, Anthony Harold Brown; brothers, Burtran Brown, John Tramel and Bill Tramel; sisters, Vennie Nelson and Ila Mae Goodman; and grandson, Stacey Brown.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Mary Lee Brown of Kemp; son, Mark Brown of Kerens; daughter, Darlene Philiposian of Collingvale, Pa.; grandson and wife, Casey and Sylvia Brown of Kemp; great-granddaughter, Madison Brown of Kemp; sisters, Etta Brown of Powell, Leola Warren and Mildred Warren, both of Kerens, Betty Mann of Fort Worth and Juanita Bailey of Dallas; and brother, Orvin Brown of Dallas.

Sammye Carlene Colvin Cook, 64, of Kerens passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 at her residence.

Services are pending.

Pallbearers will be Loyd Cook, Johnny Hobbs, Bobby Boucher, Sammye Hobbs, Matthew Adams and Drew Walker.

She was born Sept. 28, 1941 in Bazette to Samuel Loyd Colvin and Esterlee Aileen Lancaster Colvin. Mrs. Cook was a 1959 graduate of Kerens High School. She graduated valedictorian of her licensed vocational nurse’s class (1978) and salutatorian of her registered nurse’s class (1983).

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 45 years, William H. “Bill” Cook Nov. 11, 2004; daughter, Lisa Jean Cook Goss March 9, 2002; brothers, Roy Loyd Colvin Sept. 2002 and Richard “Dickie” Robertson June 10, 1997; father, Samuel Loyd Colvin Sept. 2, 1956; and daughter-in-law, Joanne Marie Boucher Cook Jan. 5, 2006.

Mrs. Cook is survived by son, William Loyd Cook; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Johnny Hobbs; mother, Esterlee Aileen Robertson; brother, Ronald Keith Colvin and wife Teresa; sister, Tricia DeMoss and husband James, all of Kerens; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Final rites were held at 5 p.m. Wednesday for Mrs. Mamie Blackmon, 101, longtime Corsicana resident who died Tuesday at her home. The Rev. Robert Potts conducted funeral services at Griffin Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
Her survivors include two daughters, a son, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a brother and two sisters.

Blackmon

Mrs. Mamie Blackmon, 191 years old and resident of Corsicana about 70 years, died early Tuesday at her home at 836 W. 6th Ave. She would have been 102 on July 30.

Born July 30, 1869 in Gainesville, Ala., she came to Texas with her family in 1882 at age 13. She was married to Jack T. Blackmon on June 20, 1889 at Eureka and was a former school teacher. She was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church.

Earlier this year she was saluted by First Nation Bank as Corsicana's only known centenarian by the banking institution as part of its centennial anniversary year.

Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Griffin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert J. Potts, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. A shut-in with impaired sight and hearing, she was a regular listener of Sunday services broadcast from the Rev. Potts' church.

Burial will be in
Oakwood The family requested that no floral tributes be sent.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert Taylor and Miss Mollie Blackmon, both of Corsicana; one son, Walter J. Blackmon, Corpus Christi; four grandchildren, John F. Taylor, Corsicana; Mrs. B. T. O’Connell, Garland; Miss Margo Blackmon, Corpus Christi, and Ben F. Blackmon, Jr., San Antonio; six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. C. M. Thornell and Miss Willette Greenlee, both of Corsicana; and one brother, Reuben Greenlee, Dallas.
