Lawrence Treadwell, Jr., born May 9, 1911, passed away Sept 12, 1989, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  His parents were Lawrence Treadwell, Sr., and Maud Carter Treadwell, and his sister was Catherine Treadwell.  They lived at 1408 W. 3rd Ave, a home they had built in 1923.  From childhood he was a gifted artist and became interested in photography, eventually having one man shows in San Diego, and was published in Life magazine.  Lawrence went to SMU, and then learned to fly.
He was a Naval officer before and during WWII, flying dive bombers, SBDs, and SB2Cs among other planes.  He married Dorothy Genevieve Brown March 25, 1942.  They lived in California and had three children, Barbara, Patricia, and David.
After WWII he and my mother owned and operated two nurseries and landscape businesses in El Cajon, California.  He later returned to technical illustrating which he loved.
He and my mother divorced in 1970, and he moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he worked at White Sands Army Base and an illustrator.
He loved the desert, and traveled throughout the Western states.  He was a great storyteller and although I have seldom been to east Texas, his stories and songs of his childhood have left indelible memories.
