Nancy Lou (Thiele) Glass
Aug 21, 1927 – Jun 30, 2010

Nancy Lou Thiele Glass, 82, of Corsicana went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, after a long and brave 10-year battle with three different cancers. After a family graveside service at Dresden Cemetery, Nancy will be remembered in a memorial service, led by Dr. Gary Johnson and assisted by the Rev. Ed Monk, at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at Calvary Worship Center. Her family suggests that Nancy would be honored if any of her many friends and family members wish to remember her with a gift to The Hope Center, 508 N. Main St., Corsicana, TX 75110 — a ministry to assist unwed mothers — in lieu of flowers.

Nancy was born Aug. 21, 1927, the second of four children born to her parents, Robert E. and Mildred Z. Thiele, in Glen Ellyn, Ill. She graduated from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and enjoyed a career spanning more than 25 years as a violinist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Married to Michael Glass in 1951, who was also a member of the Dallas Symphony, Nancy played a dual role, as she was also a loving mother to her four children: Timothy Michael, Jonathan Robert, Jennifer Lynn and Megan Elizabeth.

After she retired from the symphony, Nancy embarked on an even longer second career as both a violin teacher and music director for children's worship at St. Michael's and All Angels Church in Dallas, Church of the Epiphany in Richardson, and St. John's Episcopal Church in Corsicana, among others. She also composed many children's worship songs and directed countless children's pageants and productions over the years, which brought joy to generations of North Texas children. In her later years, she gained notoriety as one of The Four Nancys — a favorite Corsicana classical performing arts group.

But Nancy is perhaps best remembered for her devotion to the Lord and her Savior, Jesus Christ, which shone through in her favorite role — that of beloved grandma to her 13 grandchildren, for it is in this role that her loving care and biblical wisdom will stand as a lasting testimony.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. and Mildred Z. Thiele; her brothers, Robert Thiele and Richard Thiele; and her former husband, Michael Glass.

She is survived by her sister, Gretchen Lane of Elgin, Ill.; her children, Timothy M. Glass and his wife Rimma of Corsicana, Jonathan R. Glass and his wife Toula of Corsicana, Dr. Jennifer L. Glass of Iowa City, Iowa, and Megan E. Hoyt and her husband Steven of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Glass of Corsicana; her grandchildren, Sarah Jackson and her husband Garrett, Tommy Glass, Michael Glass and Robby Glass, Erin Martin and her husband Todd, Sean Glass and his wife Mairead and Casey Glass, Caitlin Juetten and Annika Glass, Hannah, Hilary, Drew and Jesse Hoyt; and her great-grandchildren, Spencer, Lukas and Corbett Jackson, Anthony Gabriel Hoyt, and one more on the way at the time of her passing, as well as numerous beloved nephews and nieces.

Arrangements by Lakeshore Funeral Home, Waco.

He was an ex-Confederate soldier, having enlisted in the service from this county. “Uncle Charnel” as he was called was one of the Frost community's most substantial and highly respected citizens, and from what acquaintance the writer had with him he was a man of strong character and admirable disposition. The remains were shipped to Italy Monday afternoon where they were met by Beene Bros., undertakers and a few friends and brought to Frost, where they lay in state at the home of Mrs. J. A. Ledford, daughter of the deceased until Tuesday afternoon. The funeral services were conducted by the Revs. Conway of Hubbard and W. O. Barnett of this place. The Masons of Frost had charge of the funeral which took place in the McCord cemetery.
The out-of-town friends and relatives present were: C. T. Hightower, Garden City; N. M. Hightower, Lubbock; C. R. Hightower, Winters; Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Griffin and children of Waco, and Nate Hightower of Burkburnett.
