VERNELL COLEMAN
Cpl. Vernell Coleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Coleman, attended Elm Flat School.  Entered the Army in 1942, training at Langley Field, Virginia.  Served in Australia, South  Pacific and India.  Has Good Conduct Medal.

WILL COLEMAN
Sgt. Will Coleman, son of the late Dr. Will and Mrs. Mattie Bell Coleman of Corsicana.  Graduate of J. W. Jackson High School, Corsicana, and Washington State College.  Entered the U.S. Army in 1941, serving in Germany.
TOMMIE R. COLLIER
Pfc. Tommie R. Collier, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Collier, attended Blooming Grove High School. Entered the U.S. Army on June 16, 1942. Served 36 months with the 436th Battalion in the 5th Army Division. Also saw service in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. Married Charlene Childress.

ARTHUR J. COLLINS
Pfc. Arthur J. Collins, husband of the former Mrs. Ruby Lee Ellis, attended G.W. Jackson High School, Corsicana.  Entered service on January 12, 1942, training at Fort Francis E. Warren, Wyoming and Fort Riley, Kansas.  Served in England, France, and Germany.
DENNIS COLLINS
Pvt. Dennis Collins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Collins, attended Corbert Consolidated School.  Entered service December 8, 1942, training at Jackson Barracks, New Orleans, La.  Served in Alaska and Italy.  Husband of the former Helen Robertson.
LESLIE E. COLLINS
Pvt. Leslie E. Collins, attended G.W. Jackson High School, Corsicana.  Entered service in June, 1943, training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, Served in France and Italy.
MAJOR COLLINS
Sgt. Major Collins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Collins, of Streetman, and husband of the former Jean Owen of Houston; Graduate of Streetman High School and Tyler Commercial College.  Entered the U.S. Air Force November 26, 1941, serving in headquarters Mess and Small Arms Dept.  Transferred to Truax Field, Madison, Wisconsin for Technical Training, then to Chanute Field for Radar training. to Boca Raton for advanced radar training.  Discharged Nov 26, 1945.
WM CLAYTON (RIP) COLLINS
1st Lt. Wm Clayton (RIP) Collins, son of Chas. W. and Nell Dixon Collins, attended Emhouse, Ennis and Corsicana Schools.  Graduate of Texas A&M where he served as cadet lt. col. during his senior year.  Served 18 months in Mediterranean Theater with the 15th Air Force and earned the Air Medal and EAME Air Force Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars.  Married to the former Dixie Belle Williams of Fort Worth.  Killed in a B-29 crash, Hickman Field, Hawaii, in 1948.  KILLED IN MILITARY
WILLIE E. COLLINS
Pvt. Willie E. Collins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Collins, attended school at the Corbert Consolidated School.  Entered the service in February, 1944, training at Camp Wolters, Texas, and Fort Francis E. Warren, Wyoming.
WILLIAM D. COMBS, JR.
Sgt. William D. Combs, Jr., son of William D., Sr. and Wyona Combs.  Married to Rosetta Combs.  Entered service December 21, 1945, training at U.S.A.A. & E. Mechanic, Sheppard AFB, Texas.  Served in Alaska, Aleutian Island.  Received Good Conduct Medal.  Attended Jackson School, Booker Washington High School, Tulsa, Okla., Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri.

LEWIS GRIFFIN COMPTON
Capt. Lewis Griffin Compton, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Compton, Sr., Corsicana.  Married to Hazel Ray of Atlanta, Ga. Graduate of Corsicana High School.  Entered service March 1942, serving in the Pacific area with the 64th Field Artillery, 25th Div. at Guadalcanal, Vella Lavella, New Guinea, Hollandia, Leyte and Luzon.  Fatally injured in an airplane crash over Leyte.  KILLED IN ACTION

Notes:

  • Lewis is buried in Manilla.
  • There is a memorial to him in the Oakwood Cemetery.
RAYMOND PRESTON CONGER
S/Sgt. Raymond Preston Conger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Conger, Sr. Married the former Lois Nadine Colvin of Kerens.  Attended Rural Shade School and Navarro Jr. College.  Entered the U.S. Army March 11, 1941.  Served in the Aleutian Islands, Eastern Mandates, So. Philippines, Ryukyus.  Has the American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal, American/Defense Service Medal, Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star.

JOHN WILLIAM COOLEY
Cpl. John William Cooley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Cooley, Husband of the former Doris Brooks.  Attended Prairie View A&M College, Ala. A&M and Paul Quinn College.  Entered the U.S. Marine Corps August 12, 1942, training as a demolition and Ammunitions Expert.  Served as a Gunner on 155th MM Battalion.  Discharged March 1946.

TROY COOLEY
1st Sgt. Troy Cooley, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cooley of Corsicana.  Married to the former Lucille Strum.  Attended Corsicana Schools.  Entered service Sept 16, 1940, assigned to Army 36th Div. at Camp Bowie, Texas; Blanding, Fla., and Edwards, Mass. Overseas for 17 months in the Northern Africa, Italy, So. France, Naples, Foggia, and Rome.  Has the EAME with 3 Stars, American Defenses, Good Conduct, Purple Heart, 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Wounded twice.  Discharged in 1945.
JOE CORDELL, JR.
Joe Cordell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cordell, Sr.  Entered the U.S. Army in 1942, training at Camp Crowder, Missouri.  Served in Africa, Sicily and Italy.  Had  order for the South Pacific when he got word that the war was over.  Discharged September 1945.
ROD E. COTTON
Cpl. Rod E. Cotton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter F. Cotton of Corsicana.  Entered service December 18, 1942, training in the Signal Corps at Ft. Monmouth, N.J. Served at Westover Field, Mass.  Husband of the former Jerolene Williams.
ROLAND COX
Pvt. Roland Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Cox of Corsicana.  Entered service September 8, 1943, serving with the Headquarters Detachment, 4th Army.  Discharged in 1944.
WILLIE COX
Pvt. Willie Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Cox of Corsicana.  Graduate of Jackson High School.  Husband of the former Tommie Jean Bradford.
WILL MACK CRAWFORD
Pharmacist Mate Will Mack Crawford, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Crawford of Blooming Grove.  Husband of the former Ann McCulloch of Texas City.  Graduate of Blooming Grove High School and Sam Houston University.  Entered the U.S. Navy in 1945, training in San Diego, Calif.  Served in Naval Hospitals in Norman, Okla. and Houston, Texas.

OLIVER E. CRESPO
Lt. Col. Oliver Crespo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emile Crespo.  Married the former Mary Elzabeth Marshall.  Served in the European Theater with the U.S. Air Force.  He was pilot with the 9th Troop Carrier Command flying over the Charborg Peninsula in teh early days of D-Dat, carrying part of the first paratroopers participating in the Allied Offensive.  Received the Air medal and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters.
