Harmon of Emhouse.  Husband of the former Audie Mae Terry.  Entered service December 8, 1942, training with the 7th Armored Div., Camp Polk, Louisiana and Coxcomb, Desert, Calif., Ft. Benning, Georgia, and Camp McCall, N.C. Combat duty with 503 Prcht Combat Team in Australia to New Guinea, Neoufre Dutch East Endes, Leotie P1, Mindovia B1, Corregon P1, Povoy P1, Negros P1.

S 1/C Joe B. Harper, son of Joe B. and Elizabeth Hodge Harper.  Husband of the former Edwina Fulton.  Graduate of the University of Houston.  Entered the US. Navy January 20, 1943, training at San Diego, Calif.  Served aboard USS Tennessee . Involved in sea battle of Surigao Straits.  Awarded APO Ribbons with 8 Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Star and Navy  Unit Commendation Discharged in 1946.

Pvt. John W. Harrice, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Harrice.  Husband of the former Jeanette Ward.  Attended N.C.T. School in Kerens.  Entered Army in  October 1943, training in Alabama.
EARNEST HARRIS
S 2/C Earnest Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Harris of Kerens.  Husband of Nellie Harris.  Attended N.C.T. School.  Entered the Navy in September 1943, training at Bainbridge, Maryland.  Served in Atlantic Theater and San Francisco, Calif.  Awarded Battle Star.
GALE R. HARRIS
S/Sgt. Gale R. Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Harris of Streetman.  Entered service in September 1939 and went overseas in January 1943 with the U.S. Army Medical Corps.  Stationed in England.  Served in France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany.

Pvt. J. D. Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Harris, Kerens.  Husband of Zella Mae Harris.  Attended N.C.T. School.  Entered Army Eng. in 1942, training at Ft. Lewis, Washington, Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.  Served in England.

Sgt. James Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Harris of Kerens, Husband of Johnnie Mae Harris.  Attended N.C.T. School.  Entered Army Eng. in May 1940, training at Ft. Leonard  Wood, Missouri, Camp Bowie, Texas.  Engaged in E.T.O. Campaigns.  Awarded ETO Ribbon with 4 Battle Stars.  Discharged in July 1945.
CURREN A. HARTLEY
T/Sgt. Curren A. Hartley, son of Rufus B. and Mae Hartley.  Entered U.S. Army Air Force after graduating from State Orphans Home Sept. 22, 1939, training at Randolph Field, Texas.  Stationed at Hickam Field, Hawaii and Clark Field, Philippines.  Was captured on Bataan in the Bataan Death March and Imprisoned by the Japanese until  Sept. 9, 1945.  Received American Defense Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, Philippine Defense Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, Distinguished Unit Citation with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Ribbon with clasp, Victory Ribbon

BUFORD D. HARRISON, CARL D. HARRISON, J. E. JR.
A.P.S. Buford D. Merchant Seaman Carl D. and Merchant Seaman J. E., Jr. Harrison, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Elisha Harrison, Sr., who lived in Blooming Grove a short time.  Buford married the former Robbie Lee Fulton of Blooming Grove, and moved to Houston.  Entered the service in 1945, training with the Navy at San Diego, Calif. Carl married the former Oreta Hinkle of Blooming Grove and moved to Houston.  Entered the service in 1942. J. E., Jr. attended Blooming Grove School before moving to Houston, where he married Ruth Baty.  Entered service 1943.

VERNON H. HARTLEY
Vernon H. Hartley, son of Rufus B. and Mae Hartley of Blooming Grove.  Graduated fro State Orphans Home and entered U.S. Army Air Force.  He was killed in an automobile accident while taking a crew to an aircraft for flight service in North Carolina in 1942.  KILLED IN MILITARY

LEONARD HAWKINS
Y/1C Leonard Hawkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Hawkins of Frost.  A 1943 graduate of Frost High School, entering service on June 7, 1943, serving with the U.S. Navy overseas for 18 months in the Pacific area.  Attended Naval O.T.C. Princeton University, New Jersey.  Received the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific, Philippine Liberation and Commendation Ribbon.
LESTER WILSON HEARD
Pfc Lester Wilson Heard, son of John Robert and Florence Taylor Heard.  Attended Omaha School.  Husband of the former Jean Roberts of Mt. Pleasant.  Served with 680th Bombardment Sq. 504th Bomb Gp. and flew many missions as a Tail Gunner on the B-25 Bombers.  Received Air Offensive Japan Eastern Mandates, American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Bar.  Entered service Nov. 28, 1941, and discharged Nov. 22, 1945.

JAMES DeWITT HEISKELL
T/Sgt. James DeWitt Heiskell, son of James and Delia Heiskell of Fort Worth.  Husband of the former Cecilia Porter of Pelham.  Graduate of Pelham High School, entered the US. Army October 7, 1942, training as a technical engineer at Camp Wolters, Texas.  Served in the European Campaign in the Battle of France , Rhineland and Battle of the Budge under Gen. Omar Bradley. Honorably discharged with honors on November 13, 1945.

Henderson of Frost.  Husband of the former Lois Wilkins.  Graduate of Frost High School and attended Univ. of Texas.  Entered service February 11, 1942.  Attached to Staging Bn O.S.A., serving in Puerto Rico.  Accepted for O.C.S. through C.O. Btry C 66th C.A. (AA), but he did not attend on account of physical disability.  Received American Theater Ribbon. Honorably discharged May 3, 1943.

HERMAN J. HERRING
M/Sgt. Herman J. Herring, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther A. Herring of Hillsboro.  Married to Gladys Herring.  Graduate of Hillsboro High School and Easley Business College.  Entered service June 19, 1942.  Served overseas for 31 months in the European Theater, French N. Africa, Italy, France and Germany.  Served  with the 701st Engineers P.D.U.  Received 2 Campaign Medals with 4 Bronze Stars. Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Rhineland, Central Europe. Honorably discharged October 20, 1945.

JOHN RALPH HEWITT
2nd Lt. Aviation Cadet John Ralph Hewitt, nephew of Mrs. Ruby McSpadden Ellis (in whose home he was raised) of Blooming Grove. Graduate of Blooming Grove High School. Attended Hillsboro Jr. College then entered the U.S. Air Force, training at the Bouten Bomdadier School, Deming, N.M. Served in the European war area. His plane was shot down over Germany. Men bailed out and captured by the Germans who ordered them to march into the forest where they were shot and all killed save one, who returned to tell of the traumatic experience. KILLED IN ACTION.
