Steven Wade "Steve" Cunningham
Dec 17, 1961 - Dec 20, 2021

Steve left us suddenly on December 20, 2021, like one whose train arrived unexpectedly, leaving him no time to say goodbye.
He was a philosopher, a theologian, an astronomer, a deep thinker and a prolific reader.
Perhaps his greatest joy was in sharing the evidence all around us that points to our great Creator.
Steve placed his unwavering faith in the one true living God from an early age and never looked back. Rather, he dug deeper, past simple faith to unwavering conviction.
Steve was a senior software developer and a very good one. He took great pride in his work.
Steve was the idyllic big brother, entertaining his little sisters as they grew and jumping in to protect them when needed.
He met his bride of 27 years while both were in Aggieland and proposed to her in song.
He was a one of a kind, who won't be replaced but who did leave a high bar and challenge for other believers: to know who it is they have put their faith in and live it out continually, when it is convenient and when it is not.
We are pretty certain that among the first to greet Steve as he arrived in his heavenly home was his mother, Norma Anne Schwerdtfeger and his first son, William.
Steve leaves behind for now his wife, Sheila McDaniel Cunningham; his son (who is just a smidge taller than dad) Dane; his daughter and Latvian princess, Arina; his parents, Larry and Becky Cunningham; five sisters, Cathi Dawn Winkler and husband, David; Kathy Spencer and husband, Andy; Lori Chambers-Dawes and husband, Neil; Sheri Freemyer and husband, Eric; and Teresa Mitchell and husband, John; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews and a handful of true (fellow philosopher) friends.
They each and every one are holding on to the promises of Christ that Steve will be more a part of their future than he was of their past.
A gathering of Mr. Cunningham's family and friends will begin at 9 a.m., with his funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 23, 2021, at First Baptist Church, 17019 Highway 124, Fannett. His graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 27, 2021, at Richland Cemetery, 641 SW County Road 2340, Richland, under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

Negro's Death Is Ruled As Accidental

Investigations into the incidents surrounding the death of Frank Holloway, 37-year-old negro, near Dawson, March 25, were completed during the week-end and the body was buried in
Woodland cemetery here Monday afternoon.

Bob Turner, highway patrolman, who took the lead in the investigations, stated Monday that it would be listed as the fifth traffic fatality of 1961 in Navarro county. Calhoun Funeral Home here conducted the burial rites Monday.

Wayne Allard, Dawson justice of the peace, returned a coroner's verdict of death from an auto accident, following the report of the investigating officers who also included Constable O. W. Owens of Dawson and Sheriff Rufus Pevehouse.

The auto accident occurred on FM 709 at 4.4 miles east of Dawson on March 25. He was driving a 1953 Chevrolet belonging to Jesse White, Dawson, Route 1, Union High community, and apparently went to sleep, the car overturning into a tank after going through a fence.

Two men who did not know the deceased - Harold Pitts and James Mitcham - saw the victim after the auto accident but he was unable to talk and was missing when they later returned and sought him, officers reported.

The body was discovered Monday, April 3, by Calvin Atchley who was mending fence and saw dogs tugging at some object in a drift in a small stream. Officers think the body was washed a considerable distance.

Edward Monroe "Ned" Polk III
Dec 13, 1926 - Jan 12, 2022

Edward Monroe Polk, III peacefully departed this world exactly thirty days after turning eighty-five years old, a milestone that no doubt astonishes all those who knew him best. Born on December 13, 1936, "Ned" was the 5th generation of the Polks to call Corsicana home. In high school he was a star athlete for the Tigers and a friend to all. After graduation he went to SMU to major in business and joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. It was during this time that Ned began to truly embrace his spirit of adventure. He spent many months traveling through Europe with only a backpack and a guitar and brought home a lifetime of stories. After college Ned took the helm of the local, family-owned insurance agency, Edward M. Polk & Associates, started in approximately 1895 by his grandfather. That agency is now the oldest, continuously family-owned agency in the state of Texas. He loved his hometown and was honored to have served as the President of the Corsicana Chamber of Commerce, Corsicana City Council, and even ran for Mayor.

Ned never met a stranger. His gift of gab and spirited wit never disappointed. He loved his children, family, and friends fiercely.

Ned is preceded in death by his parents, Edward M. Polk II and Evelyn Allison Polk, as well as sister Anne Polk Burnett. In addition to a wealth of extended family members and close friends, he is survived by his children: Adrienne Polk Colwill (David) of McKinney, John Blair Polk (Emily) of Dallas, Kathryn Ann Polk of Keller, and grandchildren: Grace Colwill, Adam Colwill, Ash Polk and Emma Polk. The family will celebrate Ned's extraordinary life with a private graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on January 20, 2022, to be simulcast via Zoom (see link below) and followed by a "Celebration of Life Memorial" to be held in April 2022, subject to Covid-related precautions.

Ned spent many hours working as a volunteer child advocate. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of his dedication to families in crisis, the family requests any donations be made in the name of Edward M. Polk, III, to CASA of Navarro County, 120 E. 2nd Avenue, Corsicana, TX 75110.

Christopher M. Perales
Jul 26, 1965 - Jul 25, 2023

Christopher Perales passed away July 25, 2023, one day before his 58th birthday.

Chris was born in Austin on July 26, 1965 to Josephine Perales Vallejo. He was adopted as a young teenager by James Bronstad, who took care of him the rest of his life. Growing up with his siblings Joe Perales, Richard Perales, Carlos Garza, Benjamin Vallejo, Susan Vallejo, and John Vallejo, Chris was always a rambunctious child, to say the least. He was mischievous and energetic, but always had a kind heart. During his teen years, Chris was constantly working on electronics, from TVs and VCRs, to radios. He liked anything he could take apart and put back together. After graduating from Corsicana High School, Chris went on to attend the University of Texas, where he played football until 1989.

Chris worked in car audio for over twenty years. He worked with his best friend Keven. Some of their fondest memories were from their shop. Even when he was not working, Chris loved to fix things. He enjoyed woodworking and building, and of course electronics. He collected silver and coins and loved to fish. He had a big sweet tooth, and enjoyed anything sweet, washed down with a glass bottle of Coca-Cola.

A kind-hearted man and father to children Alyssa and CJ, Christopher loved spending time with his grandsons and his family. He was one of the most lovable people you could ever meet. With his loud, infectious laugh, he was a comedian and enjoyed any type of gathering. He loved to talk, usually to every person there. He was charming and generous, always there to lend a helping hand. The right tool, or anything else you needed, he had. He was also a humble man, giving the greatest gifts possible. He donated his organs to save others. His family is so proud of him for that.

Chris leaves behind his children, Alyssa and husband Eddie Castillo, Jr.; CJ; his grandchildren Lennox and Hendrix Castillo; his siblings Joe, Richard, Carlos, Ben, Susan, John, and Eddie; his long-time best friends Jimmy Wolver and Brent Burns; the entire "Castillo" family; and the "Haden" family. Everyone was family to Chris.

In order to honor Chris's life, friends and family will be received Friday, August 4, 2023 at 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Corley Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Corley Funeral Chapel in Corsicana at 10 o'clock with Pastor Jeremy Teague officiating. Burial will follow at
Dresden Cemetery.
