Grove, Graduate of Blooming Grove High School. Husband of the former
Martha Linda Knuckles of Hillsboro. Volunteered in the U.S. Naval Air
Corps March 1942, training at San Diego, Calif., Great Lakes Naval center,
Chicago, Ill. Pensacola Naval Air Station. Attached to the Atlantic
PBYM Patrol Group patrolling the Caribbean and Azores Islands, all areas over

Inducted into the U.S. Army 4th Co. B Combat Reg. Engineers on June 6, 1942.
Trained at Camp Wolters, Texas, and straitened at Fort Chaffee, Ark., Camp
Needles, Calif. Fort Pierce, Fla. Was "Mustered out" with honorable
discharge Both of his sons, Billie and Ben Jr. are serving in the military

BILLIE DARWIN BROOKS
Sgt. Billie Darwin Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben A. Brooks, Sr. Graduate of
Blooming Grove High School. Entered service 1942, training at Camp Barkley,
Texas, Leesville, Louisiana, Desert Center, Calif., and Fort Dix, N.J. with 90th
Motorized Infantry Div. Served in England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany,
Czechoslovakia and Austria as Message Center Chief. Also served in Bavaria with
Army of Occupation. |

W. W. (Ted) Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Brooks of Blooming Grove. Attended
Blooming Grove High School. Joined the U.S. Army and received an honorable

PAUL
BROWN
Pfc Paul Brown, son of Navarro County Supt. George Henry and wife Lula Brown,
attended both the Blooming Grove and Corsicana schools. Joined the U.S.
Army soon after Pearl Harbor, and was captured by the Japanese. Placed in
bottom of a Japanese ship to be carried to the enemy prison camp. American
planes spotted the Japanese ship, shelled it repeatedly - ship sank. Paul
and other American soldiers downed.

WILLIAM E. BROWN
Fireman 1/C William E. Brown, son of William H. and Gladys Ballew Brown of
Richland. Married the former Ethel Clare of Richland. Served in
South Pacific on Minesweeper USS Heed. Served in the U.S. Navy from 1943
through 1944, serving in Guam, Saipan and Okinawa.

BOYD C BRYANT
Cpl. Boyd C. Bryant, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bryant of Ennis. Husband of
the former Lovene Lynch of Blooming Grove. Attended Mertins High School.
Entered service February 1943, training with the Anti-Air Craft at Camp David,
N.C. Served 3 years in Fiji, New Guinea, and the Philippines with the 5th
and 7th Air Force Divisions. Discharged February 1946.

HERMAN JAMES BRYANT
T/Sgt. Herman James Bryant, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Bryant of Frost, Husband
of Ethel Bryant. Attended Frost Schools and graduated from Plainview,
Texas High School. Entered service in 1941, training with the Air Force as
Supply Officer. A member of the 312th Fighter Control Sqdn., he served in
England, Holland and Germany. Discharged in 1946 after spending several
months at Brooks Gen. Hospital, San Antonio due to a back injury.

Round Prairie Col. School. Entered Air Corps, 1942, training at Camp
Wolters, Texas. He served in N. Africa, E.T.O., and France.

RAYMOND KYLE BRYANT
Pvt. Raymond Kyle Bryant, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Bryant of Frost, attended
Frost Schools. Entered the service in 1941, training on the West Coast
with a unit advancing and installing the communications systems. His first
overseas assignment was Mindano, Philippine Islands, and then to New Guinea.

ENOS E. BUCKNER
Enos E. Buckner, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. Buckner. Entered service in 1944,
training with the Army at Camp Wolters, Camp Fannin, and Ft. Ord., Calif.
Went overseas in November 1944, serving in the Philippines and Okinawa.
Wounded on Okinawa in May 1945. Was with the 307 Inf. 77th Division.

JOHNNY LOIS BURGETT
C.M. Johnny Lois Burgett, son of the late Mrs. Maude Burgett Carber. Attended
Montfort School and entered the U.S. Navy in 1923. His ship was attacked and
sunk at Pearl Harbor. Served in the South Pacific and was killed in action when
his second ship USS Barton was sunk in Guadalcanal in 1942. Received the Purple
Heart posthumously. Served 19 years in the U.S. Navy.

P.O. 3rd Class Bobby Lee Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Burleigh L. Butler of
Corsicana. Graduate of Corsicana High School. Entered the U.S. Navy i June 1943.
Served at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Base at Norfolk Virginia, Williamsburg,
Birginia, and in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Was in charge of the ship
