Thomas Joseph Stubbs

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR T. J. STUBBS HELD THURSDAY:

Funeral services for Thomas J. Stubbs, 72, who died Tuesday, were held Thursday afternoon at the North Side Baptist church. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. Bracey I. Greer, Pastor of the Assembly of God church, and Rev. Jack Goff, Pastor of North Side Baptist church.

Surviving are seven sons, John W., Clyde H., J. L., Lee Roy, R. T., Eugene and Gilbert Stubbs, all of Corsicana; a daughter Mrs. H. L. Rice, Indiahoma, Okla.; a brother, J. H. Stubbs, Corsicana; Five sisters, Mrs. W. V. Martin, Mrs. H. D. Dowdy, Mrs. Burley Thomas and Mrs. Noah King, all of Alabama, and Mrs. Frank Peacock, Louisiana; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

Pallbearers were J. A. Myers, C. L. Nichols, A. D. McBroom, S. M. Starks, Everett Ivie and Everett Owens.

John William Stubbs

Mr. J. W. STUBBS:

Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m., Saturday at the Northside Baptist church for John W. Stubbs, 75, of Corsicana, who died Thursday at Memorial Hospital.

Rev. David Hale will officiate, and burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

He was a native of Dawson, resident of Corsicana for 70 years and sign painter for 52 years.

He was a member of Northside Baptist church and veteran of World War I.

Survivors include his widow of Corsicana; three sons, John Wallace Stubbs of Corsicana, Floyd Stubbs of Grand Prairie, and Clayton Stubbs, of Houston; four grandchildren; four brothers, Leroy Stubbs, Richard Stubbs, Eugene Stubbs and Gilbert Stubbs, all of Corsicana; a sister, Mrs. Frances Rice of Indiahoma, Okla.

Pallbearers will be Marvin White, Joe Sabo [sic], W. H. Tipton, Billy Stubbs, Micky Stubbs, Benny Stubbs, Marshall McEntire, and Brooks Runnels.

Henry Klibacka "Clyde" Stubbs

Clyde Henry Stubbs, 69, painter and resident of 639 N. 15th St. died Monday in Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Northside Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. James Dammon, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery with nephews as pallbearers.

He is survived by his wife: one daughter, Mrs. Juanita Williams, Irving; five brothers, J. W., Eugene, Leroy, Gilbert, and Richard Stubbs, all of Corsicana; one sister, Mrs. Frances Rice, Cash, Okla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Stubbs Service

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Northside Baptist Church for Clyde Henry Stubbs, 69, painter, who died Monday. The Rev. James Dammon officiated. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, one sister, five brothers and a number of nieces and nephews.

Frances Luvenie Stubbs Rice, 87, of Corsicana died Aug. 19, 1991, at the Northside Nursing Center.

Services were 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Corley Funeral Chapel, with Dr. David Hale officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

She was born December 7, 1903 in Corsicana.

Survivors include one son, Homer E. Taylor of Sulphur, LA; one brother, Richard Stubbs of Corsicana; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Alice V. (Green) Stubbs

Mrs. Alice (Green) Stubbs

Funeral services were to be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the North Beaton Church of Christ for Mrs. Alice Stubbs, 92, Corsicana resident who died Sunday in a local nursing home.

Claude B. Holcomb was to officiate with burial following in Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery under direction of Corley Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were to include J. C. Thompson, Jack Pillans, Melvin Gorman, R. E. Ross, Gene Stubbs, and Richard Stubbs.

Survivors include two daughters, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchildren, two sisters and a number of nieces and nephews.

Kirksey Melvin Putman

Kirksey Melvin Putman, 78, of Waco, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather  passed away quietly at home on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov 11 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Randy Hughes officiating.  Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov 10, at the funeral home.

Mr. Putman was born on April 8, 1924 in Dawson Texas the youngest son of William Wesley and Willie Bell (Duke) Putman.  He served from March 1924 to December 1945 in the Army in the 300th Combat Engineering Co. B Unit in Europe in five campaigns.  He received the EAME Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.  After discharge he returned home.  He met and married Willie Faye Murphy on Aug 9, 1947.  He started his work with the civil service at James Connally Air Force Base in Waco.  When James Connally closed, he transferred to Fort Hood.  He retired from civil service in 1985 after 31 years.  Mr. Putman attended Emmanuel Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Willie Faye; daughters, Linda Waller of Hewitt and Theresa Cheatham and her husband Gipp, of Waco; grandchildren, Keri Thomas of Hewitt, Erin Glass and husband, Justin, of Speegleville, Blake Waller of San Marcos, Shayne Cheatham of Ross and Casey Cheatham of Waco; two great-grandsons Dylan Thomas of Hewitt and Wesley Glass of Speegleville.  Dylan was "Sugar-Booger" and Wesley was "Smiley."  They were the light of his life.  He is also survived by sisters, Katherine Teakell of Peoria and Tiney Bailey of Bellmead; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Allen of Elm Mott and Charlene Cottongame of Palmer; and a brother-in-law, Billy Murphy.  He also has many nieces and nephews who will miss "Uncle Kirk."

Pallbears will be grandsons, Blake Waller and Shayne Cheatham; grandson-in-law, Justin Glass; also Gene Firmin, Randy McGee, Herb Tepe, Brandon Graves and Aaron Verba.

Daddy, gone but never forgotten.  We miss you so much already.  Watch over us all and keep us all from harm.

Birta Mack (Clark) McClane

Birta M. McClane, 92 of Waco, a beloved homemaker, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law passed away Dec. 5, 2002, in a local nursing home.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Paul McClain officiating.  Graveside services will be at noon at Dawson Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. McClane was born June 16, 1910 in Dawson, Texas, to the late John and Jessie Clark.  She was a member of the Church of Christ.  Her husband Louis McClaine preceded her in death in 1978.

Survivors include a daughter Annie Pearl Church of Waco; son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Sondra McClane of Hewitt; daughter, Ruby V. McClane of McGregor; son, David S. McClane of Waco; seven grand-children, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Michael Kirkpatrick, David Kirkpatrick, Glenn Shockey, Jesse McKee, Danny Fuentes and Eddie Guerra.

Jessie Dell Gilley, 93, of Hillsboro died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003.  Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11 at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel with Mr. Harrell Wilson officiating.  Burial will be at Ridge Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gilley was born April 15, 1909, near Frost, Texas, the daughter of Jesse O. and Virgie (Mayfield) Johnson.  She lived at Brandon most of her life.  She lived at Brandon most of her life.  She lived the past eight years in Hillsboro.  She married Ike Gilley Feb. 18, 1925, in Malone and he preceded her in death April 8, 1984.  She was a retired post mistress of the Brandon Post Office.  She was a member of the Irene Church of Christ in Irene and the Rebecca Lodge.  She was also preceded by three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Taylor of Hillsboro; sister, Annie Bess Johnson of Hillsboro; granddaughter, Debbie Brooks and husband dean of Bynum; grandson, Brad Taylor and wife Kristi of Hillsboro; and three great-grandchildren.

Virgie Pardo-McDonald

Virgie Pardo McDonald, of Waco, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at a local hospital.  Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Chaplain Richard Rust officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. [Oakwood in Waco ]

Mrs. McDonald was born in Kerens, Texas.  She was reared and educated in Waco.  She graduated from Waco High.  She married Lawrence Pardo June 14, 1940 in Waco.  He preceded her in death February 24, 1990.  She married Everett McDonald Nov. 7, 1993.  She worked for Montgomery Ward in the personnel department and later worked for Sears & Roebuck Co. retiring after 25 years of service as a division manager.  Mrs. McDonald was a member of Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of Sul Ross Senior Center.

Survivors include husband, Everett McDonald of Waco; daughter, Larian Carson and husband, Mike of Georgetown; grandson, Chris Carson and wife, Deannise of Bentonville, Ark.; great-granddaughter, Shelby Carson; stepchildren, Danny Wayne McDonald and wife, Sarah, Edith Fournie and husband, Ed, and Shirley Eames and husband, Roger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Terry Pardo, Carl McDonald, E. J. Smith, Bill Hilton, Danny Wayne McDonald, and Chris Carson.  Honorary pallbearers are R. L. James, Bill Dyers, Floyd Pack, and Lindle Rabbe.

Guy Duane McGahan, 54 of Corsicana, died June 15,1994 in Corsicana.
 Services will be 10am, Friday at the Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, with Troy Brooks officiating.  Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Donna McGahan of Corsicana; one son Gerry Duane McGahan of Mesquite; three daughters Pamela Sue Franklin of Irving, Tammy McGahan of Mesquite, and Wendy Maxfield of Lubbock; two step-daughters, Shelly Elmore and Melissa Wilke, both of Corsicana; three brothers, Doyle McGahan, James McGahan, and John McGahan, all of Corsicana; three sisters, Maureen Ellis and Sue Ducan, both of Desoto, and Laura Ann Raney of Mesquite; and 12 grandchilden.

Bacil Keith Herod, 34, of Corsicana, died June 15, 1994 in Corsicana.
Graveside services will be 2pm Friday in the Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.  Corley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
 He was born Feb 12, 1960 in Corsicana.  He was a graduate of Blooming Grove High School and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
he was preceded in death by his father, Bacil Liston Herod, and his mother, Anna Lorene Ratliff Herod.
Survivors include numerous cousins and aunts.
 Memorials may be made the Missionary Baptist Church.

  • I would like to submit my father's obituary to your website.  My father was killed in Corsicana Tx. on June 15, 1994.  His accident was the headlines for the Corsicana Daily Sun.  He was not the only one that died in the accident and I would as well like to submit the gentleman's name and infomation, you see he was about to become my brother-n-law.  Their names were Guy Duane McGahan, and Bacil Keith Herod..

He was a native and lifelong resident of Corsicana, a painter and a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Corsicana; two sons, Benny Stubbs, of Lufkin, and James David Stubbs, of Corsicana; one grandson; two brothers, Gene Stubbs and Richard Stubbs, both of Corsicana; and one sister, Mrs. Frances Rice of Corsicana.

He was a native and life long resident of Corsicana and a member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Pagano died Wednesday in the Methodist Hospital in Houston.
 
She is survived by two daughters, Cuba Melton of Rosenberg and Renee Kern of Richmond; six grandchildren, all of Richmond; and one brother, Home Taylor of Sulphur, LA.
 
Donations can be made in Mrs. Pagano's memory to the Veterans Administration Hospital.

John Wallace Stubbs

John Wallace Stubbs, 66, of Corsicana, died Sunday at this residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Corley Funeral Home chapel, with Dr. David Hale officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

He was a native and life-long resident of Corsicana, a Baptist, and served in the Army. he was an American Legion member, and had worked for the Coca Cola Bottling Co. in Corsicana for 18 years.

Survivors include a brother, Clayton Stubbs of Houston; three nephews, Jimmie Stubbs of Spring and Alan Stubbs and Terry Stubbs of Missouri City; five aunts, Mrs. Paulyne Stubbs, Mrs. Katie Stubbs, Mrs. Louise Stubbs, Mrs. Mamie Stubbs and Mrs. Frances Rice, all of Corsicana; and a uncle, Richard Stubbs of Corsicana.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Northside Baptist Church for Mrs. Mamie B. Stubbs, 75, of Corsicana who died Thursday in Memorial Hospital. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Corley Funeral Home.

She was a native of Tennessee and had lived in Corsicana since 1916. Her husband, John William Stubbs, preceded her in death, November 2, 1972.

Survivors include three sons, John Wallace Stubbs of Corsicana, Ronald Floyd Stubbs of Grand Prairie and Clayton Stubbs of Missouri City; four grandchildren; three brothers, Vernon Siler of Belmont, Calif., J. B. Siler of Redwood City, Calif., and Rollie Siler of Austin; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Owens of Lakewood, Calif., Mrs. Maurine Lance and Mrs. Edna Barron, both of Fort Worth, and Mrs. Ollie McIntire of Corsicana; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret E. Stubbs, aged 64 years, who was fatally injured early Thursday when she fell on a stairs while visiting relatives near Lawton, Okla., were held Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock from the North Side Baptist church. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. Jack Goff, pastor of the church, and Rev. Wm. E. Kirschke.

Mrs. Stubbs was a long-time resident of Corsicana.

Surviving are her husband, T. J. Stubbs, Corsicana; sons, Johnnie, Clyde, Loyd, Richard, Eugene and Gilbert Stubbs all of Corsicana and Leroy Stubbs of Dawton, Okla.; a daughter Mrs. Frances Rice, Lawton, Okla.; a brother, John Roach, of Okla.; a sister Mrs. Jim Pyle, Kemp; 11 grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ed Black, Robert Lee, E. L. Brown, Clint Paschall, Tommie Blissett and Elbert (should be Everett) Owens.

MRS. M. E. STUBBS DIED WHILE VISITING IN LAWTON, OKLA.

Mrs. Margaret E. Stubbs, aged 64 years, long-time resident of Corsicana, was killed Thursday morning when she fell down stairs at the farm home of a daughter, Mrs. H. L. Rice, Indahoma, near Lawton, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock from the Northside Baptist church. Burial will be in
Oakwood Cemetery. The rites will be conducted by Rev. Jack Goff, pastor of the church, and Rev. Wm. E. Kirchke.

Surviving are her husband, T. J. Stubbs, Corsicana; seven sons, Johnnie, Clyde, Loyd, Richard, Eugene and Gilbert Stubbs all of Corsicana and Leroy Stubbs, Lawton, Okla.; a brother, John Roach, Cache, Okla.; a sister, Mrs. Jim Pyle, Kemp; 11 grandchildren and four step-children.

Leonardo Garcia, 82, of Corsicana passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in Dallas.

Visitation will be today from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Rosary Service will be today at 7 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Chapel. Mass will be Monday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Williams officiating. Cremation to follow in Van.

Mr. Garcia was born March 11, 1920 to Rito and Engracia Ortez Garcia in El Puerto, Michoacan, Mexico. He is retired from Oil City Iron Works.

Survivors include sons Nick and Gloria Garcia of Corsicana, Joe and Michelle Garcia of Philadelphia, Juan Garcia of Dallas, Cesar and Lannell Garcia of Houston and Leonel and Cindy Garcia of Corsicana; daughters Hermelinda Felipe of Corsicana, Irma G. and Ali Guivehchi of Dallas, Blanca and Domingo Adame Jr. of Laredo, Minerva and Fahim Shaike of Dallas, Leticia and Sonny Gonzales of Corsicana and Delores and Jaimg Agueros of Austin; brother Miguel Garcia of Mexico; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James Lee Britton, 59, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Arlington Funeral Home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Arlington Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Britton was born Sept. 19, 1943 in Corsicana. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1961 and from Navarro Junior College in 1963. He attended Arlington State College from 1963 to 1964. He worked for the Arlington Independent School District for 33 years, retiring in April 1997.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Parish Britton of Arlington; daughters, Laura Ortega and Jewel Christine May; brother, Loyd Ray Britton and wife Patti of Garland; granddaughters, Amber, Megan, Heather and Bethany; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Jessie Lee Hamilton, 98, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Chatfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry L. Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Chatfield Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mr. Hamilton was born May 25, 1904 in Shiro.

Survivors include his brother, Claude Isaac of Shiro; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews including Margaret Ricard, Sonji Duber, Delores Cooks and David Blairs; and special friends, Erma Smith and Walter Andrews.

Alma Thomas, 85, of Richland passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in her residence.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Richland United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Schusler officiating. Interment will follow at Richland Cemetery.

John Bruce (Rocky) Thomas Jr., T. David Thomas, Tracey D. Thomas, A. Reese Brown, James K. Johnson, Pat Smith and Kyle Hern will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers are Arthur Patrick, Steve Schwarting, Botty Grantham and Tommy Hughes.

Mrs. Thomas was born on March 31, 1917, to A. Neal and Jimie Emmaline Swink Brown Jr. in Richland. After graduating from Corsicana High School, Miss Brown entered Baylor University, graduating in four years with a double major and a double minor. She taught English and History as well as coached the girls basketball team for many years. She met John Thomas on a "blind" date and they were a couple from that time on, ultimately eloping to be married on April 2, 1938...parted only by his death 16 months ago, and now they are together forever.

Survivors include daughter Jane Brown Thomas of Dallas, son and daughter-in-law J. Bruce and Shirley Thomas of San Antonio, grandson and wife John Bruce (Rocky) and Julie Thomas and great-granddauhters Marisa and Alex of Carey, N.C., grandson and wife T. David and Liz Thomas and great-granddaughters Tori and Taylor of Southlake, grandson Tracey D. Thomas of Houston, sister-in-law Wilma Schwarting of Waco and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thomas was a loyal and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Richland; thus, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Richland, Richland, TX 76681.

Rhoton O. Cashion, 90, of Bardwell passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 at his residence.

Services were 10 a.m. today at Keever Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Cashion officiating. Interment followed at Elm Branch Cemetery in Bardwell.

Mr. Cashion was born March 6, 1912 in Crisp to John C. and Della Mae Anderson Cashion. He was raised in Crisp where he attended school. On Aug. 11, 1934, he married Helen M. Ray. After their marriage they lived in Crisp. In 1947, they moved to Bardwell where he engaged in farming for over 40 years. He spent his life doing what he loved, farming. He retired in 1977. He was a member of Bardwell Church of Christ and was a 51-year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 1054 in Bardwell.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Helen Cashion of Bardwell; sons and daughters-in-law, Grady and Kathy Cashion of Blooming Grove, Lloyd and Pat Cashion of Mount Pleasant and Kenneth and Judy Cashion of Avalon; four granddaughters, two grandsons, two great-granddaughters, seven great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandra Louise Sheets McCarter, 61, of Purdon went to be with the Lord. She passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 at her residence.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Jim McCarter of Purdon; son, Michael McCarter of Corsicana; daughters, Kimberly McDonald and husband Jimmy and Kelly Davis, all of Purdon; mother-in-law, Pattie McCarter of Purdon; brother and sister-in-law, Jack W. and Louise Sheets of Plano; sister-in-law, Mrs. Phillip Kelton Sheets Jr.; niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Haworth, all of Salt Lake City, Utah; and five wonderful grandchildren who will dearly miss her.

Arlee G. Lockhart, 88, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at his residence.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Jake Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills Cemetery.

Mr. Lockhart was born May 19, 1914 in Emhouse to Garrett Alexander Lockhart and Birdie Rich Lockhart. During World War II, Mr. Lockhart was a crew chief at the Corsicana Air Field. He maintained PT-19s at the Corsicana Air Field and at the Galveston Air Field. After the war, he became manager of the Chapman Ranch, which later became the Taylor Ranch, from July 1947 until his death. He was a member of Fundamental Baptist Church of Corsicana and was a great student of Revelation. He taught Sunday school for 35 years and the last lesson he taught was Sunday, Jan. 19. He was a great story teller with a wonderful memory and a gift for presentation. He remembered the people he met and the places he visited and could present them with humor. He was a great and gentle man who was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed very much.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Sarah Lockhart of Corsicana; sons and daughters-in-law, Obie Lee and Joyce Lockhart of Kerens and Joe David and Susan Lockhart of Burleson; daughter, Gena Ruth Chandler of Corsicana; grandchildren, Mike Lockhart, Lynn Merrell, Janet Lockhart, Cole Taylor and Kirk Lockhart; great-grandchildren, Rachel Merrell, Kaitlyn Merrell, Garrett Lockhart and Lauren Lockhart; brother and sister-in-law, Wendell and Marie Lockhart of Corsicana; and sister, Jewel Porch of Corsicana.

Mrs. Alma Watkins

Mrs. Alma A. Watkins, 80 died in an Irving hospital Monday night  Feb. 9, 1977 following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Foster & Brown Funeral Home. Burial was in Alligator Cemetery, Navarro County.

 Mrs. Watkins had been living in Irving for the past few months. Previously she had made her home in Childress for some 35 years. She was reared in the Athens area and was a member of the Baptist church. She was a former Hotel Operator.

She is survived by two sons, Edward F. Price of Athens and Roy B. Price of Mexia, one daughter Mrs. Estelle Ditto of Wills Point, two step-sons, Jack Price of Alta Loma and Bill Price of Houston, three step-daughters, Mrs. Virgie Smith and Mrs. Edna Strange both of Athens and Mrs. O.L. Hyett of Palestine, 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren

Funeral services for Daisy Hodge, 77 of Athens were held at 2 p.m. Wedensday at the Central Baptist Church with Dr. Grover C. Bishop

officiating. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Carroll & Lehr Funeral Home. Mrs. Hodge died Monday at Lakeland Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 22, 1905 in Corsicana. She had been a resident of Athens for the past 60 years. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church and was employed for many years with the Athens Independent School District in the Dietary department, retiring in 1966.  Survivors include two daughter, Mary Randall of Dallas and Sue Hubbard of Athens, one brother Tom Finley of Odessa, 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for John Jefferson Ray Jr., 57, 504 North Wofford St. Athens were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Foster & Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Grover C. Bishop, Rev. Bill Slayton and Rev. Charles Wigley officiating. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park with Foster & Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ray died Tuesday in a local hospital following a short illness. He was born Sept. 24, 1923 in Corsicana and lived most of his life in the Athens area. He was an employee of the Texas Clay Products at the time of his death, was a Veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include his wife Gloria Dean Ray of Athens, two daughters Mrs. Debra Lynne Jones and Mrs. Gloria Denice Quinn both of Athens, mother Mrs. Ona Ray of Athens, three brothers Rev. Funeral services for Steve Rogers, 75 of Corsicana, a former resident of Henderson County were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Hassell & Foster Chapel. The Rev. James Davis and the Rev. Bill Grimes officiated and burial was in Shelby Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Rogers died Saturday at 3;30 a.m. at Memorial hospital at Corsicana after a long illness. He was born in Henderson County and lived in this county until moving to Corsicana six months ago. He was a retired farmer and a Baptist.

Services for Steve Rogers are set for 2 pm. today in the Hassell and Foster Funeral Chapel in Athens, with the Rev. James T. Davis officiating. Assisting will be Rev. Bill Grimes.

Rogers died Saturday in Memorial Hospital.

Burial is to be in Shelby Chapel Cemetery in Athens.

A resident of Corsicana for six months, Rogers was born Dec. 18, 1895 and lived most of his life in Henderson County.

He was a member of the Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline of Corsicana; three sons, J.E. Rogers of Corsicana and Elton Rogers and Alvin Rogers both of Carolton; one daughter, Mrs. Joyce Patterson of Garland; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchilden.

***ATHENS FIREMAN DIED SUDDENLY***

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church for Lawrence Porter Hodge, 64 of Athens fireman who died suddenly Friday after battling a grass fire the Roy Jensen farm near Highway 19 about eight miles north of Athens. The Rev. Bill Slayton will conduct the services and the Hassell & Foster Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Memorial Park. Mr. Hodge was born in Iowa, Kansas and had been a resident of Athens since 1925, moving here from Corsicana. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church, the IOOF Lodge in Athens and a Veteran of World War I.

Survivors are his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Ruth Magee of Crafton, Va, Mrs. Mary Baty of Dallas, Mrs. Georgie Norman and Mrs. Sue Crum of Fort Worth, two brothers, Jess and Johnnie Hodge of Athens, three sisters, Mrs. Alice Hopwood of Corsicana, and Mrs. Mary Williams and Mrs. Ona Ray of Athens and 15 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arthur and Juanita Collins; and paternal grandparents, Johnny B. and Olivia Morgan.

Survivors include her daughters, Tammy Collins and Temisha Collins; mother, Texanna Moffett and husband Willie; father, Darnell Morgan; sister, Barbara Collins; brother, Willie Wilson; fiance, Wrodney Jeffery; nephews, Willie Wilson Jr., Parkar Wilson and Brian O'Neal; and niece, Arkella Wilson.

Deborah Kay Brandon, 41, of Kerens, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, in her residence.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Ross and Johnson Chapel. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Mt. B. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Samaria Cemetery in Samaria.

Pallbearers will be Ray Lindsey, Roger Cloud, Otis Tolliver, Dwight Bryant, Darryl Brandon, Preston Sayles and Don Johnson.

Mrs. Brandon was born on Sept. 17, 1961, in Corsicana. She was a 1980 graduate of Kerens High School and attended Kilgore Junior College. Mrs. Brandon was employed with Kmart Distribution Center for 10 years and was a faithful member of Samaria Baptist Church until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by son Craig Dontae Brandon.

Survivors include husband Samuel Brandon, daughter Tyresha LaKay Brandon, parents Andrew and Ernestine Bradford, sister Marilyn Robinson, all of Kerens; brothers Roy L. Bradford (Joyce) of Corsicana, James Bradford (Debra) of Dallas, and Earl Bradford of Kerens; nephew Jamal L. Ross, father- and mother-in-law Louis and Cora Brandon of Corsicana; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.

Lottie (Warner) Roberson

Funeral services for Mrs. Lottie Warner Roberson of Athens were set for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carroll & Lehr Chapel. The Rev. Alton Dodd officated. Mrs. Roberson, 80 passed away late Friday at Henderson County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Roberson was born in Kaufman County and later lived in the Cottonwood Community and Corsicana. She had lived in Athens for the past 26 years and was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Athens. Her husband C. J. Roberson preceded her in death in 1955. Interment was at the Meredith Camp Grounds.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Marie Jameson and Mrs. Mattie Howell both of Athens, one brother, John Warner of Britton Tx, one sister, Mrs. Ethel Gilliam of Corsicana, three grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Rovane Bruce

Rovane Bruce, 85, of Silver City passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 at Heritage Oaks West in Corsicana.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev. Bob Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Brushie Prairie Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eugene Berry, Glen Ray Bruce, G.C. Younger, Bubba Cottongame, Jeff Davis, Donald Ray Adams, Marvin Burns and Chris Andrews.

Mr. Bruce was born Nov. 12, 1917 in Corbet to Charlie Bruce and Myrtle Sawyer Bruce.

Survivors include his wife, Valta Bruce of Silver City; son, Chris Bruce of Silver City; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Truman and Letha Adams of Corsicana and Dorothy Adams of Arlington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Bobby Henry, 82, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ross and Johnson Chapel.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at 13th Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. Henry Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be sons. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mr. Henry was born Feb. 1, 1920 in Oakwood. He loved to fish and hunt. He was also a farmer and rancher for many years. He was retired from Medical Arts Clinic.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Tarlton Henry.

Survivors include his children, Laruth Henry, Mary Anderson (Roy), all of Killeen, Cherry Simmons (Paul) of Italy, Christine Henry, Jessie Henry (Lucy), Ossie Henry (Wanda), Billy Henry (Gloria), all of Corsicana, David Henry (Pearlie), Sam Henry (Maxine), all of Ennis, Bobby Ray Henry of Lemoore, Calif.; mother, Willie Randle of Corsicana; sister, Beulah Walker of Coolidge; sister-in-law, Betty Macias (Pete) of Paducah; aunt, Early Davis; uncle, Coleman Shed, both of Midlothian; 37 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Larry Dean Allred

Larry Dean Allred, 65, of Stillwater, Okla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at his residence. His body was donated to the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Stillwater with Dr. William S. Inglish officiating.

Mr. Allred was born Dec. 27, 1937, in Corsicana to R.V. and Pauline (Canady) Allred. He grew up in Corsicana and later he and his family moved to Ennis, where he graduated from high school. After graduating he went on to further his education at the University of North Texas in Denton. He worked for Republic Insurance in Dallas as a manager. Besides working for Republic Insurance Company in Dallas, he also worked at agencies in Denver, Colo., Tulsa, Okla., and Memphis, Tenn.

He married Gladeen Burris July 16, 1966 in Stillwater. In 1977, they moved to Stillwater, Okla., where he bought C.L. Weathers Agency, which became his own Allred Agency. He owned and operated the Allred Agency for 25 years until his retirement in 2002. He was also a certified property and casualty underwriter.

Mr. Allred loved playing golf and was the Stillwater County Club champion for several years. His favorite service project was the community Thanksgiving dinner. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Gladeen Allred; sons, Lance Allred of Baltimore, Md., and Brett Allred of Dallas; grandchild, Riley Nelson of Dallas; and brothers, Monte Allred and wife Cornelia of Heath and Bill Allred and wife Linda of Corsicana.
