Jeffery Dave Walker
Mar 21, 1948 - Jan 18, 2003
Jeffery Dave Walker, 54, passed away Saturday,
Jan. 18, 2003 at Baylor Specialty Hospital in Dallas after an extended
illness.
A memorial mass will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday
at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepard in Terrell. A reception in
the fellowship hall will follow.
Mr. Walker was born March 21, 1948 in Corsicana
to the late Marie Shepherd and Jefferson Davis Walker. He was a jeweler
for more than 30 years, but mostly was acclaimed an international master
hand engraver. He performed work for multiple individual customers and
such companies as Neiman Marcus, Lady Primrose's, Tiffany's,
Bachendorf's, and Zales among others. He also created works of art for
leaders in the United Nations, President Bush, Henry Kissinger, the
Royal Family members of England, the King of Spain and for national
sports teams including the Dallas Cowboys, Stars and Mavericks.
Mr. Walker received a Bachelor of Business
Administration from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of
Science in Nursing from the University of Texas in Tyler. His return to
the art world perfectedhis hand-engraving fortˇ at Jeffrey Walker
Engravers studio in Dallas. He was a long-term member of the Episcopal
Church. His civic interests included being past president of the
American Cancer Society, Carnegie Library, as well as Director of Rotary
Club International, United Way, and the Chamber of Commerce in
Palestine. He also served on various national bank boards and private
boards.
Mr. Walker worked as an engraver and jeweler at
the oldest store in Texas (and the oldest jewelry store west of the
Mississippi) in Palestine. He built up the store, putting in multiple
overtime hours and received the National Salesman of the Year award from
Gordon Jewelers Corporation. His commensurate love for hand engraving
continued and the bond between "metal and the man" evolved. He completed
his "Red Violin" during the fall of 2002 at his Dallas studio whil
struglling to work three to four hours per day during the latter part of
his illness. He was adamant about being a productive society member and
even on an average day he was preserving the noblest of the lost arts.

Elizabeth Walker of Terrell; son, Jeffrey Kolstad Walker and wife
Heather of Chesapeake, Virginia; stepdaughters, Tina and Summer Chartier
of Austin; stepson, Joshua Chartier of College Station; stepgrandson,
