James M. "Jim" Posey
June 27, 1925 - June 25, 1998 (Blooming Grove, TX)

Jim M. Posey

The ringing of the telephone awakened Floyd Thomas Rowland in the morning hours of June 26 at his home in Olympia, WA. Floyd answered with a sleepy hello and a voice at the end of the line spoke from Blooming Grove. Gary Price identified himself and said he was searching for the son of Blooming Grove resident, Jim Posey.

"I began sweating under my arms when he told me my father had died," stated the son recently at the Country Cafe in B.G.

Floyd's mother and father divorced when he was three years old and living in Tacoma, WA., and Floyd never saw his father again.

"I always wondered about my father, but Mom would never talk about him.
I made three efforts to find him, but all attempts were unsuccessful."

At age 19, Floyd was persuaded by his mother to change his name from Posey to Rowland, his stepfather's name. Over the years he had given up the idea of ever finding his daddy. But he had collected a few tidbits from his mother's family and friends.

"I was told he was a handsome man and if I looked in a mirror, I'd see him."

Floyd has four childhood recollections of being with his daddy in Washington.

"I remember he rode me on a motorcycle, and I can recall one night my parents were fussing and Dad was on the back porch with his head down.
And I have a vision of him working, making a basement under the house, but I remember most that he sang to me when I went to bed."

Jim Posey met and married his wife while he was in military service.
His son was born in 1946. After his divorce, Jim returned to his native B.G. and worked for the county for many years. He acquired two acres of land north of the city and settled in semi-isolation for the remainder of his life. He was tabbed a "loner" who loved his dogs. He was a hard worker and a good man and had a host of friends.

Knowing his illness was terminal, Jim asked his friends to tell him about Heaven. He accepted the Lord as his Savior. On June 25, his concerned neighbor, Gary Price, not able to get the man to the door, notified the County Sheriff Ofc. Officers broke into the phoneless house. Jim's body was laying in his bed. A little fan buzzed beside him.

Nothing short of a miracle provided Price information about the son's name change, something Mr. Posey never knew. When Price made the call to Washington, Posey had been dead twelve hours.

"Mr. Price told me he would be wearing boots and a cowboy hat," says Floyd, "and when I got off the plane, I walked right to him."

Looking out at the window and taking in the downtown area, Floyd said, "I think Blooming Grove is beautiful. It looks like the old west to me. The city should help these people restore this place."

Opening the door of his father's auto, Floyd spotted a couple of old pictures laying in the passengers' side of the car. "I picked them up and it was a big picture of me and the other was a smaller picture of my mother."

Some call it fate: Graveside services were to be held at 10:00 AM, June 29. A large crowd gathered in and around the tent at Lone Oak Cemetery. Bro. Connally, who was to conduct the service, understood it to be at 5 PM. He didn't appear. Soon Gordon Griffin stood up and began speaking about the deceased. When he finished, with an old-fashioned impromptu eulogistic service by his friends and neighbors. Memories were given by James Chapman, Georgia Page, Bob Bray, Gary Price, Jimmy Gantt and the son.

But Floyd wanted to do a little more. His long-ago images and his dad's voice singing him to sleep, prompted him to sing a song. Hardly a dry eye could be seen when Floyd stood up and sang, "You Made Me Glad" as his father, Jim Posey, was laid to rest.

DR. W. H. FISH DEAD
Father of Mrs. C. L. Jester Died Last Night
Judge C. L. Jester today received a message from his wife saying that her father, Dr. W. H. Fish, had died at his home in Nicholasville, Ky., last night. The message contained no particulars and Judge jester presumes that death came suddenly and at least unexpectedly, as he had received no previous information saying that Dr. Fish was sill. Mrs. Jester had been there several days on a visit and fortunately also another daughter who lives in Indiana is visiting there.
Dr. Fish has visited in Corsicana and sis well known to not a few of our citizens who remember him as a dignified, intelligent and courtly gentleman. They will deeply regret his  death and sympathize with his family. Dr. Fish was about fifty five years of age.

LUKE SITTON PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY MORNING

Luke Sitton passed away at 1 o'clock a.m. Wednesday, following pneumonia. He was 54 years old, a native of Navarro county. The funeral services were held at the home Thursday at 2 p.m. by Rev. W. Z. Corbin, and interment took place in Rose Hill cemetery.

He is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. A. Z. Stevens, Navasota; Mrs. Ray Harold of Dallas; Mae Pauline, Jimmie and Jackie Sitton of Blooming Grove; and one granddaughter, Sue Harold.

The deceased has been living in Blooming Grove many years. He married Miss Murrie Powell and for a number of years his health has been anything but good, yet he did all he could to make home happy and bent every energy to educate his children.

Mr. Sitton cared nothing for leadership, nor did he busy himself to dedicate the policies of his town and country, but sounded down, he had plenty of sense and knew when those in power were building on foundations to withstand the tempests and defy the sword of criticism.
He had his faults. We all have them, but to know Luke Sitton was to be convinced that he designed no man harm, harbored malice toward no one and his career is not without many chapters of good deeds freely bestowed upon worthy subjects.
