JAMES CARROLL "BUD" SEWELL
James Carroll (Bud) Sewell, son of Jay and Partha Sewell of Blooming Grove.  Graduate of Blooming Grove High School and attended Arlington College.  Enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941, serving in the Pacific area on the USS Hornet, an aircraft carrier.  He lost his eyesight when an airplane failed to land on the Hornet properly, causing a traumatic explosive accident.  He returned to his home in Blooming Grove; later he attended the University of Texas Law School.

Capt. Jay Lamont Sewell, Jr., son of Jay and Partha Sewell of Blooming Grove.  Graduate of Blooming Grove High School and Baylor  Univ.  Husband of the former Ruth Holdeman.  Served as Captain of Air Corps Supplies in North Africa and Italy.  Served with the 301st Bombadier Group.

TOM SHARP
P.O. 2nd Class CB Tom Sharp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sharp of Corsicana.  Entered the service with the U.S. Navy in Dec. 1942.  Spent 27 months overseas.

DUANE MACK SHELTON
CWO Duane Mack Shelton, son of J. E. and Etta Shelton of Frost, Husband of the former Bertie Honea of Frost. Entered the service March 13, 1943. Graduate of Frost High School and attended Texas A&M. Served overseas in the Philippines with the 143rd ABCD U.S.N. Awards received were the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, E.T.O. Honorably discharged in 1956.

Cpl. Herbert Ray Shelton, son of J. E. and Etta Shelton of Frost. Married to Helen Shelton of Canada. Attended Frost High School. Entered the U.S. Army in 1942, serving with the 36th Div., Brownwood, Texas. Served in Europe Received the Bronze Star and an honorable discharge.

T/Sgt Edwin Miller Sheppard, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Sheppard. Husband of the former Juanita Boyd. Attended Frost High School and Cisco College. Inducted into the Army April 25, 1942, training at Sheppard Field Wichita Falls; New England Aircraft School, Boston, Mass.; and P-40 Aircraft School, Buffalo, N.Y. Stationed at Payne Field, Cairo, Egypt. Attached to the Air Trans. Command. Received AAA Aircraft Member Badge (Wings); American Theater Service Medal, EAME Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Voctory Medal. Discharged Nov. 2, 1945.

S/Sgt Houston Clayton Sheppard, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Sheppard. Graduate of Blooming Grove High School. Enlisted in the U.S. Army May 28, 1940, assigned to 18th Field Arty., Ft. Sill, Okla; 689th in England, North Africa, France, Germany. Served with the 3rd U.S. Army in Europe under Gen. George S. Patton, in 1944 and 1945. Received Bronze Star by Gen. Patton, and a French Croix de Guerre by Gen. De Gaulle of the French Army. Honorably discharged Oct. 27, 1945

JANIE MAY SHEPPARD
T/Sgt. Janie May Sheppard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore N. Sheppard of Blooming Grove. Graduate of Blooming Grove High School and T.C.U. Entered service in April 1942, serving in the Women's Marine Corps. She was Chief Electrician of W.M.C. in Virginia. Discharged after 5 years service.

Rex D. Sheppard, son Mr. and Mrs. Theodore N. Sheppard of Blooming Grove High School. Enlisted in U.S. Air Force in July 1941. Graduate of A.A.F. Tech College, Chanure Field, Ill. Instructor at Randolph Field, Texas. Served as Air Force Instructor in Eau Claire, Wics. He was Crew Chief on B-17 Bomber of W. T. T. Command with 12 Air-Sea rescue Sqdn. Discharged Nov 20, 1945.

R.M. 3rd Class Robert "Doots" Sheppard, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Sheppard. Graduate of Blooming Grove High School. Served in the U.S. Navy from March 1, 1943, to March 1, 1946. Served in the South Pacific Area.

Lt. Thoas Shivers, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. P. Shivers of Corsicana, was a member of the 44-A Class of Aviation Cadets to graduate from the A.A.F. Pilot School, George Field, Ill.  Received silver wings of a flying officer and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. Entered pilot training and attended schools at Benettsville, S.C. and Sumner S.C.

Pvt. John F. Short, of Dawson, entered service Oct 22, 1943, training at Ft. McClellan, Ala. and served at Stewart Field, Newburg, New York.
JOHN M. SHULER
Major John M. Shuler, son of Rev. Shuler. Member of the B. G. High School Sr. Class of 1933. Entered the Air Corps with the 507th Fighter Group which flew escort to the long range bombers. Was Chaplain to the 507th. Served on Okinawa with the 301 Ftr. Wing. Even though he had the rank titles of Lt., Capt., and Major, he thought his real rank was indicated by the Crosses on his lapels and the name Chaplain or "Chappie" given to him by the fellows of the 507th.

Inducted into the U.S. Army July 7, 1941, training at Camp Wolters, Texas. Appointed a drill instructor and served until 1943 Camp Blanding, Fla., serving as Battalion Sgt. Major at the Inf. Replacement Trng. Center. Served with the Italian Theater, Italy with the 5th Army Hq. Air-Ground Liaison Section. Awarded Bronze Star, the Italian Croce di Guerre. Honorably discharged Oct 8, 1945.

Pvt. Marvin C. Shwarts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Shwarts of Corsicana. Husband of the former Thelma Ann Neal of Blooming Grove. Attended Corsicana High School and Texas Military Institute, San Antonio. Entered service in 1942, served 4 years with the U.S. Air Force with overseas service in India and Pakistan.

Served in the Pacific for 2 years in Naval Aviation, Marksmanship. Received Good Conduct Medal. Discharged Oct. 4, 1945. Stayed in the Reserves 4 years. Attended Baylor Univ., Waco; East Texas State College, Commerce, S..U., Dallas.
