CHARLES A.
WHITLOCK
Capt. Charles Arthur Whitlock, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Whitlock of Corsicana.
A 1938 Graduate of Corsicana High School, entered the U.S. Army in 1939.
Commissioned at Lubbock in 1942 in the U.S. Air Force and later received the Air
Medal for 5 bombing missions in Sicily and the Distinguished Flying Cross for
his heroism against the Ploesti Oil Refineries in Rumania where he was captured
by the Germans in 1943, and released in 1945. He was fatally injured on Dec 15,
1949, in a B-29 crash near Roswell N.M. when the bomber struck a windmill and
tumbled to the ground, killing 6 and injuring three.Notes:
