Arthur L. Ellis, 83, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10,
1999, in Corsicana.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel, with the
Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr. officiating and the Rev. George Snow
assisting. Interment will follow at Oakwood
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Ellis, Ray Ellis, David Ferguson, Duane
Long, Joe Long and Richard Long. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob
Corley, Don Paschal, Jim Porter, Doyle Davis, Kenneth Lee, James
Bass, Herbert Roop, David Bredthauer, Bill Roughton and Corley
Funeral Home staff.
Mr. Ellis was born April 20, 1916 in his parents' house located in
Matador. He was the fourth of 11 children in the Martin and Nettie
Ellis home. He left school for two and a half years to help support
the family during the depression, but returned and graduated from
Wichita Falls High School.
On Sept. 16, 1940, he married Miss Grace Clark and from this union
was brought forth a daughter, Jerry Ann, and a son, James Clark. Mr.
Ellis was in the Army at the end of World
War II and served in the military police until honorably
discharged.
He graduated with honors from mortuary school and was a licensed
funeral director for 52 years, of which 45 years was with Corley
Funeral Home in Corsicana. He was a member of First Baptist Church
of Corsicana, a past president of the Lions Club and a 25-year
monarch of the Lions.
Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Ellis; brothers,
David Ellis and Danny Ellis; and sister, Winnie Long.
Mr. Ellis is survived by his daughter, Jerry Ann Ellis of Corsicana;
son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sylvia Ellis of Plano; grandson,
Mike Ellis of Lewisville; great-grandson, Dylan Ellis of Lewisville;
brothers, Gordon Ellis of California and Delwyn Ellis of Ocoee,
Fla.; sisters, Mida Rice of Seattle, Wash., Ruth Brown of Dallas,
Bonnie Ferguson of Fort Worth, Anna Belle Snow of West Columbia and
LaNelle Davis of Creede, Colo.; many nieces and nephews and
great-nieces and nephews.

Donovan C. Kennedy Donovan C. Kennedy, 73, of Canton passed away Thursday, Aug. 12,
1999, in Tyler.

Mr. Kennedy was born Feb. 10, 1926 in Durant, Okla. He served in the
U.S. Navy three years during World
War II and was a radioman third class. He retired from Mobil
Pipeline Company in 1980 after 31 years. He was a member of St. Luke
United Methodist Church in Corsicana. He and his wife celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary in May of this year.
Mr. Kennedy is survived by his wife,

Canton; sons, Michael Don Kennedy of Round Rock and Timothy Wayne
Kennedy of Garland; sister, Martha Arthurene McDaniel of Nash;

Mrs. York was born June 3, 1919 in Ben Lomond, Ark.

1999, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist

Mr. Hayes was born March 18, 1953 in Buffalo. He was the owner and

daughter, Jennifer Hayes of Cedar Hill; son, Tracy Cunningham of

Edgar Wood Humphries, 84, of Dawson passed away Monday, Aug. 16,
1999, in a Wortham nursing home.

Pastor James T. Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Grape

Mr. Humphries was born June 22, 1915 in Angus.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Thomas Humphries III.
Mr. Humphries is survived by his wife, Evelyn Humphries of Duncan,
Okla.; sons, Edgar L. Humphries and Gary L. Humphries, both of
Dawson; daughters, Katrena Holliman of Angus and Sharon Istre of
Spring; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a number of
nieces and nephews.

Feb 12, 1918 - Aug 15, 1999 Thelma M. Allmon 'Honey' Hipps
Thelma M. Allmon Hipps, known as "Honey" by her family and
friends, has gone to be with her Lord and Savior. "Honey"
was born Thelma M. Allmon on Feb. 12, 1918 in Blooming Grove and
passed away Aug. 15, 1999 in Missouri City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W. E. and Beatrice Oden;
husband, Joel R. Hipps; and sister, Mrs. D.K. (Gladys) Robinson.
She is survived by two daughters, Tommie J. Booker and husband Bill
Booker of Houston and Clara Virginia "Ginger" Graig of
Missouri City; sister, Marie Hickey of Houston; Dorothy Strauthers
Rosentritt of Georgetown, who was like a daughter; five
grandchildren, Denise Renee Gordon, Johnny F. Prejean, Billy Dan
Mullins, Michael Todd Mullins and Jno. Brettson Booker; four
great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, generally of
the Houston area.
Mrs. Hipps was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Missouri
City where she was active until she became physically unable to
attend. She was a very special, loving, one of a kind mother and
child of God. Her family will miss her very much.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Quail Valley Baptist
Church in Missouri City.

passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

Mr. Keathley was born July 23, 1912 in
Frost. He was a veteran of World
War II in the Army Air Forces, and had retired from the postal
service. He was a member of the Navarro County Genealogical Society
and St. Luke United Methodist Church for 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
Malvin "Jack" and Della Scott Keathley; sisters, Maxine
Worsham and Billie Wilson.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years,
Verna Mae Ainsworth Keathley; daughter, Rebecca Keathley Ware;
grandchildren, Jessica McManus Jock and husband Kevin, Bruce McManus
and wife Roxanne, all of Corsicana, Jennifer McManus Robinson and
husband Kevin of Huntsville; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Holifield,

Harrell Douglas Simpson, 70, of Dawson and
Irving, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2002 at the VA Medical Center
in Dallas.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wade
Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with the Rev. Brad Brittain officiating.
Interment will follow at Dresden
Cemetery in Navarro County.
Mr. Simpson was born Aug. 26, 1931 in
Llano. He graduated from Brady High School and attended Midwestern
University and University of North Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy
from 1951 to 1955. During the Korean
Conflict, he was stationed aboard the USS Chourre in Japan. He
was employed in the office of Roadway Express in Irving for over 25
years, retiring in 1998.
He married Gelene Duncan of Corsicana on
April 6, 1957 in Grandfield, Okla.
Mr. Simpson attended First United Methodist
Church of Dawson. He was a member of George B. Erath Chapter No. 13
of Waco, Sons of the Republic of Texas; J. L. Halbert Camp No. 359,
Corsicana, Sons of Confederate Veterans; Military Order of the Stars
and Bars, Hubbard City Masonic Lodge No. 530 AF&AM, and had
served as worthy patron of Dawson Chapter No. 1046, Order of the
Eastern Star.
His hobby in Irving was raising racing
pigeons, one of his birds having held a national speed record.
He was preceded in death by his father,
Charles Henry Simpson; mother, Jane McCue McMillan Simpson; and
brothers, Darrell and William McMillan Simpson.
Survivors include his wife, Gelene Simpson;
children, Darrell Randall Simpson of Iowa City, Iowa and Sarita
Carole Simpson of Three Rivers; sisters and brother-in-law, Batista
and William J. Shaw of Salado; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles

M. 'Jimmy' Wrenn Jr.

James M. "Jimmy" Wrenn Jr., 80,
of Paris passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at his residence.
Graveside services will be Saturday at
Evergreen Cemetery in Paris.
Mr. Wrenn was born Dec. 17, 1921 in
Brownwood to James Marlin and Anna Rebecca Wrenn. He graduated from
Brownwood High School in 1941. In 1943, he married Betty Jo Long of
Corsicana.
He began learning to fly in his early
teens, and began a life-long love of flying. In World
War II, he served as a flight instructor for the Army Air Corps
in Corsicana, and later flew DC-3s and C-46 cargo planes over the
"hump" in China and India.
After the war, he began flying for Delta
Dusting Company (later to become Delta Airlines), and continued a
career as a crop duster, flying instructor, and airplane mechanic,
which spanned over 50 years. He lovingly restored many vintage
aircraft by hand. In 1961, he and his family moved to Paris, where
he ran Aero Dust and Spray at Cox Field. In 1993, the Federal
Aviation Association awarded him the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic
Award, named for the Wright brothers' mechanic, and he was a
lifetime member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
He later married Billie Ruth Spann of
Paris.
He was preceded in death by his daughter,
Pamela Higgins Campbell, who was an attorney in Philadelphia and
Paris.
Survivors include his daughter, Dr.
Jennifer Kozar of New Jersey; stepsons, Jerry Spann of Lufkin and
Gary Spann of Tyler, grandsons, Hunter and lan Kozar of New Jersey,
and step-grandchildren, Jeff Spann of Florida, and Nikki Lovelady of
The Colony, Dawn Sims of Branson, Mo., and Jennifer Holloway of
Denton.

2 Die on County Roads in April

The Texas Department of Public Safety
Highway Patrol investigated 58 rural traffic accidents in Navarro
County in April, according to Sgt. Ken Authier. The accidents
resulted in two deaths and 40 injuries.
The first fatal wreck over the reported
period happened April 4 on Farm-to-Market Road 309 south of Goodlow.
Kerens High School junior Emerald
N. Ward, 17, was a passenger in a 1995 GMC Suburban that crashed
just before midnight. The driver, 19-year-old Angie M. Moore and a
2-year-old passenger were taken to Navarro Regional Hospital.
Ward was not wearing a seat belt, according
to a DPS report.
Another fatal wreck happened April 29 on
Farm-to-Market Road 667 about 13.5 miles west of Corsicana. Killed
in that wreck was 81-year-old Tildy
Ann Miller of Purdon. Miller was a passenger in a 1990 Toyota
Camry driven by 56-year-old Patricia Jean Smith, also of Purdon.
Smith was treated at Navarro Regional Hospital.
The total rural traffic accidents for
Navarro County for the year is 194, which resulted in four deaths
and 112 injuries.
The 22 counties which comprise Highway
Patrol District 6A have had a total of 3,057 rural traffic accidents
this year, which have resulted in 77 deaths and 1,822 injuries. This
compares to 2,988 accidents, 66 deaths and 1,780 injuries reported
during this same period last year.
Highway Patrol District 6A is comprised of
Navarro, McLennan, Bosque, Hill, Erath, Comanche, Hamilton, Hood,
Somervell, Johnson, Ellis, Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Houston,
Madison, Falls, Limestone, Bell, Coryell, Freestone and Leon
counties.

Amy Argersinger, 16, of Arlington joined
the Lord on May 30, 2002.

Amy was born April 8, 1986 in Fort Worth.
She lived a daily walk with the Lord, sharing His glory with others.
Her smile radiated the love she felt for life and for others. She
participated in church youth groups in both Arlington and Corsicana.
Amy had completed her sophomore year at Martin High School, enjoying
every minute of her life with her friends and family. She played
violin in the Martin Orchestra and during her freshman year was on
the Martin Diving Team. She was in Quiz League and Key Club at
Martin. She had completed nine years of Girl Scouts, completing her
Silver Award as a freshman; she was working on her Gold Award.
Survivors include her parents, Ray and
Luann Argersinger; loving brother, Adam; grandparents, J.B. and
FloRae Argersinger of Austin and Howard and Joyce Coley of
Corsicana; aunts, uncles and cousins, Ross and Rose Curtis and Risa

on many boards. He worked 12 years for Stewart Motor Company. He
loved his church, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents,

Leslie Kyle Gee; brother, Truman Gee; and brother-in-law, John C.

Mrs. Stewart is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Doris Jean
and Nathan A. Eaton of Mesquite; grandsons, Nathan A. Eaton Jr. of
Mesquite and Dana E. Eaton and J. Mark Eaton, both of Rowlett;
granddaughter, Donna Eaton of Garland; sisters, Eleanor Dorsett and

Mr. Bruns was born in Vernon and moved to Amarillo in 1980 from
Corsicana. He was a 1953 graduate of Texas Tech and married
Veradelle Anderson in 1963 in Hereford. He was a soil scientist and
had been employed by Soil Conservation Service, retiring in 1986. He
was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Bruns is survived by his wife, Veradelle Bruns of Amarillo;
sons, Harlan Bruns of Amarillo, Hal Bruns of Lewisville and Hilrey
Bruns of Amarillo; daughters, Jan Countiss of Amarillo and Julie
Hawkins of Huntsville, Ala.; sister, Ruth Shubert of Colorado
Springs, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.

Frederick Alton "Mac" McGraw, 72, of the Iron Stob and
Lane area of Oklahoma passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999 at Medical
Center of Southeast Oklahoma in Durant, Okla.
Visitation will be 7 p.m. today at Brown's Funeral Chapel.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brown's Funeral Chapel, with
the Rev. Bartt Bradford officiating and Lester Bradford assisting.
Interment will follow at Butler Cemetery in Lane, Okla.

Mr. McGraw was born Jan. 25, 1927 in Blooming Grove to Fred and
Vernice Rhodes McGraw. He graduated from Blooming Grove High School
in
1944 and married Helen F. Bradford on Sept. 13, 1952 in Durant,
Okla. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He worked many years
for W.O. Bankston Auto Dealership as a salesman, retiring in 1989.
He was a 32nd degree mason member of the Mike H. Thomas Lodge No.
1314 in Dallas and was a shriner affiliated with Hella Temple in
Dallas. He lived many years in Dallas before moving to Atoka, Okla.
two years ago. He loved quail hunting, fishing and camping and
prided himself in his yardwork.
Mr. McGraw was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Vernice
McGraw; and brothers, Lacy, Bob and Thurman McGraw.
Mr. McGraw is survived by his wife, Helen McGraw of the home near
Lane; son, Jeff McGraw and wife Vicki of Dallas; granddaughters,
Meagan and Lauren McGraw, both of Dallas; brother, Don McGraw and
wife Wanda of Blooming Grove; sister, Jane Ryan and husband Lynn of
Santa Maria, Calif.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adam and
Maggie Bradford of Lane; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins,
many other relatives and many very dear and loved friends.

Mr. Daniel, a retired oil and gas industry executive who resided in
Austin, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
in Houston after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Born Feb. 12, 1924
in Kerens, he was an Eagle Scout and a
1942 graduate of Corsicana
High School. During World
War II, he served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps with the rank of
lieutenant j.g. He married Peggy Glover of Pecos on Aug. 24, 1946.
In 1949 he graduated from University of Texas at Austin with a B.S.
degree in petroleum engineering. He was a longtime member of the
American Institute of Mining Engineers. He was employed by Texaco
from 1949 to 1957 and by Cabot Corporation in Pampa for the
remainder of his career. His family will remember him as a very good
man and a world class fly fisherman.
He is survived by his wife; sons, James Preston Daniel of Atlanta,
Ga. and Josiah M. Daniel III of Dallas; and grandchildren, Carolyn
Susanne Daniel and Michael Preston Daniel of Atlanta and Thaddeus
E.S. Daniel and Josiah M. Daniel IV of Dallas.

from Corsicana High School and Navarro College, where he played
football for both schools. He was retired from Mobil Oil Company
after 33 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World
War II in which he was stationed in Italy.
Mr. Heifner is survived by his son, James B. Heifner of Center;
daughters, Diane Mask of Corsicana, Janet Merchant of Turnerville,

Navarro County Sheriff's Reserve Deputies from 1977 to 1984 when he
resigned as chief of the reserves due to poor health. He was
employed by Joe York Furniture Company and then by Montgomery Ward
as appliance manager.
Mr. Fields is survived by his wife, Martha Fields of Kerens;
goddaughter and husband, Shelley and Jason McCurdy of Kerens;
mother, Nanny Jones of Kerens; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry

and was a master sergeant. He was an animal control officer for the

Home in Blooming Grove.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel in
Blooming Grove, with the Rev. Gene Cravens officiating. Interment
will follow at Frost Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe Parum, Sam Belcher, Leon Crawford, Ersell
Crawford, Clifford Williams and Kenneth Reed.
Mrs. Armstrong was born May 14, 1906 in Nettleton, Miss.
Mrs. Armstrong was preceded in death by her son, Billy Lewis
Armstrong; daughter, Betty Jean Armstrong.
Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Lorene
Armstrong Lindop of Rockwall, Jackie Pevehouse of Lubbock and Annie
Sue and William Price of Carthage; brother, Joe Payne of Yakima,
Wash.; sister, Euna Gowdy of Memphis, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 14

Paul H. Krauter, 30, of Retreat passed away Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999,
in Dallas.

Cemetery.

Mr. Krauter was born Sept. 21, 1968 in Dallas. He was a loving

Southwest Transplant Alliance in Dallas.

father and stepmother, Ron and J.T. Krauter of Mannford, Okla.;
mother, Judy Jisha of Houston; sons, Billy Andrew Krauter, Jonathan

Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999 at a Dallas hospital.
Family members will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Wade Funeral
Home in Hubbard.
Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard
with Mr. Durwood Boggs officiating. Interment will follow at Dawson
Cemetery.
Mr. Boggs was born Dec. 7, 1916 in Groesbeck. He had been a resident
of Pleasant Grove for 50 years before moving to Dawson. He had
worked for Proctor & Gamble in Dallas for 33 years before
retiring in 1977. Mr. Gunn was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church
of Christ for 49 years and was a Mason in the Bruton Corner Lodge in
Dallas for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Gunn of Dawson; daughter and
son-in-law, Sue and Harvey Hebert of Dawson; daughter, Linda Gunn of
Dawson; three sisters, Opal Reynolds of Clute, Joy Minze of
Amarillo, and Betty Crumpton of Austin; four grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mr. Clarkson was born June 1, 1934 in McKinney. He was a member of
First Baptist Church. He worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company
for more than 20 years, and served in the U.S. Army and the National
Guard of the 36th Infantry and 143 Division.
He was preceded in death by his father, L.G. Clarkson.
Mr. Clarkson is survived by his wife, Vera Marie Clarkson of
Corsicana; mother, Lovella Clarkson of San Angelo; sons, Casey Lynn
Clarkson and Billy Glenn Clarkson Jr., both of Corsicana; daughter,

member of the Odd Fellows and Lions Club. He had been a
self-employed store owner.

Mr. Liggins was born May 14, 1951 in Corsicana.
Mr. Liggins was preceded in death by his brother, Gregory D. Liggins;
maternal grandmother, Willie M. Overby; maternal grandfather, Jacob
"PK" Overby Jr.; and great-aunt, Ola Faye Johnson.
