Linzie B.. Wheat, Jr. of Groesbeck, passed away Friday, June 29, 2007 in Olin E.
Teague Veteran's Hospital in Temple.
Graveside services were conducted on Monday, July 2, in Fort Parker Memorial
Park with Brother Richard Williams and Rev. Clayton Griggs officiating.
Mr. Wheat was born April 11, 1950 in Ennis to Linzie B. Wheat, Sr. and Margaret
(Mageors) Wheat. He graduated from Corsicana High School in
1970.
He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam
1970-1972 as combat engineer with the 815th B Company. He retired from Texas
Highway Department December 2003 after eighteen years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Tad Watts; sister Betty
Wheat.
Survivors include his wife Sammye Wheat of Groesbeck; daughter Jessica Wheat of
Groesbeck; two sons, Christopher Wheat of Corsicana, Michael Wheat and wife
Karen of Corsicana; step-daughter Amanda Shugart and husband Jason of Groesbeck;
step-son Ryan Dodd and wife Brandy of Wortham; six grandchildren; two sisters,
Linda Wheat of Corsicana, Mary Lou Holloway and husband Bill of Corsicana;
brother, Thad Watts; adopted daughter Mari Morales of Groesbeck.
Pallbearers were Mitchell Dorris, Matthew Dawley, Jason Shugart, Rob Johnson,
Steve Parks, Jason Platt.

A memorial service for Gracie Aline Ward, 90, of
Princeton, was held July 18, 2007, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Plano.
The Rev. Victor Kollman officiated.
Mrs. Ward died July 14 in Princeton.
She was born July 29, 1916, in Cryor Creek, to Charlie Clay and Nobie (Wilson)
Childress.
She married Rufus C. Ward Dec. 24, 1941, in McKinney.
Survivors include her children, Sondra Meier and her husband Roger T. of Wylie,
Bobbie Haws and her husband Jim L. of McKinney, Cathey Davis of Houston, and
Andrew Ward and his wife Sharon of Arlington; grandchildren, Martin Daniel
Meier, Melissa Charles, Kevin Haws, Kris Davis, Kyle Ward and Thomas Ward; four
great-grandchildren; sister, Charlene Collier of Corsicana, and a host of other
loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death was her husband, Rufus C. Ward; parents, Charlie Clay
and Nobie Childress; grandson, Michael Clyde Meier; brothers, Bud Childress, J.B.
Childress, Tommy Childress and Bill Childress.

George Alton Abbott, 65, of Wortham, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at his
residence. He was born on March 26, 1942, in Corsicana. Mr. Abbott was a retired
oil field worker with Brown Oil & Gas Company.
Visitation was on Sunday evening, July 15, 2007, from 6 until 8 o’clock in
Porter Chapel at Wortham.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, July 16, 2007, at 2 o’clock in
Porter Chapel-Wortham. Officiating was Mr. Billy Ridge. Burial was in Wortham
Cemetery.
Mr. Abbott was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Winona Abbott, and
by a sister, Margaret Lambert.
Surviving are his wife, Esther (Meme) Abbott of Wortham; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Tauna and Duane Beard, Sr., of Wortham, Gina and Don Cargile of
Groesbeck; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bill Herrick of Burleson; and
brother and sister-in-law, Russell C. and Kathy Abbott of Killeen; six
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one on the way; many nieces and
nephews.
Pallbearers were George T. Abbott, Duane Edward Beard, Jr., Bill Herrick, Lanny

Mr. Haynie was born Oct. 5, 1949 in Corsicana. He graduated from Corsicana High
School in
1968. He worked most of his life for Haynie Towing. He was a past president
of Corsicana Emergency Corps and was a former member of the Corsicana Police
Department Reserves.
Mr. Haynie is survived by his parents, Neil and Gerry Haynie of Corsicana; sons,
Pvt. First Class Brady Haynie of Oahu, Hawaii and Tate Haynie of Barry;
daughters, Britney Haynie and Taylor Haynie, both of Barry; brothers, Brad
Haynie and Byron Haynie, both of Corsicana; sister, Betsy Stroder of Emmett; and
seven nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Northside Baptist Church Building Fund.

Dawson, who died Wednesday.
She was a resident of Dallas for 40 years, a member of Highland Park Methodist
Church, and
the Fifty-Fifty Class. She was a lifelong Methodist, a teacher of young people's
Sunday
School classes in First Methodist Church in Beaumont, and in Boston Avenue
Church in Tulsa.
She was raised in Dawson, one of four children of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.H.
Farmer.
Her husband Hastings Harrison was general director of the YMCA for 23 years and
vice
president, and southwestern director of the National Conference of Christians
and Jews for 20
years, and for 17 years senior consultant to President Willis M. Tate of
Southern Methodist
University. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Dec. 14.
Mrs. Harrison is survived by her husband, her daughter Jo Fay Godbey of Dallas,
a son, Hubert
J. Harrison of Austin, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother to her four children. She

background and steady influence throughout the years. We were truly blessed to
have a mother
we admired, respected and supported us to achieve our goals in life. A warm
woman with a
wonderful sense of humor and a strong sense of family, which can be contributed
to her faith
in God and her membership in the Church of Christ.

Barham, 60, died at her home here Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock and the funeral
services were held Wednesday morning from the Central Baptist church with burial
in the local cemetery. Surviving are her husband, Blooming Grove; father, Joe
Bowman, Dallas; two daughters, Mrs. E. D. Thornton, Hillsboro, and Mrs. E. A.
Jordan, Blooming Grove; three sons, Hubert F. Barham, Fort Worth; Tom Barham,

Mrs J. N. Barham, aged 59, died at the family home at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services were held at Central Baptist church Wednesday morning at 10
o'clock. The rites were conducted by Rev. P. H. Vercher, pastor of the church.
Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
Surviving are her husband; three sons, H. F. Barham, Fort Worth; N. C.
Barham, Cleburne; M. B. Barham, Waco; two daughters, Mrs. E. D.
Thornton, Hillsboro; Mrs. Buster Jordan, Blooming Grove.
Mrs. Barham had lived here all her life with the exception of two years. She had
been a member of the Baptist church for many years.

Puckett. She was a graduate of Denton High School and a retired bookkeeper in
the oil and gas industry.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, in the chapel of
Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, with
Jimmy Carl Christian officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Andrew Morris McCann, 74, of Streetman died
April 5, 1989 in Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
Services are 2p.m. Saturday in Corley Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Grayson
Glass and Michael Connell officiating. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted
at Birdston Cemetery in Streetman.
He was born August 30, 1914 in Winkler, the youngest Child of Andrew M. and Lula
McCann. He had retired to Streetman after living in Dallas and DeSoto for 30
years.
He was a former DeSoto city councilman and served on the Zoning and Electrical
board. He was a member of the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce and was honored with
their Outstanding Man Over 35 Award in 1973. He was also presented the DeSoto
Distinguished Service Award four straight years from 1970-73.
He was instrumental in forming the DeSoto Baseball Association in 1965 and
served as a coach from 1965-69. He was also involved in the DeSoto FFA.
He was a Master Mason in the Winkler Masonic Lodge and served as Worshipful
Master. He was a member of the Scottish Rite-32nd Degree, a member of the Hella
Temple of Dallas and Eastern Star No. 118 in Corsicana. He was a master
electrician and a member of the IBEW Local No. 59 for 42 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Chandler McCAnn of Streetman; three
daughters, Elizabeth Ann Phillips of Dallas, Marcelyn Guinn of DeSoto, and
Shirley Gee of Germantown, Tenn; two sons-law Robert J. Phillips and Jerry D.
Gee; six grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; numerous nieces
and nephews.

He was born July 15, 1913 in Fairfield, and lived in Houston for 50 years. He
was a retired manager of Allbritton Cafeteria in Houston, where he had been a
manager for many years, and a member of the Second Baptist Church in Houston.
Survivors include his wife, Katherleen Burleson of Houston, one brother, V.P.
Burleson of Streetman; two sisters Bettie Palms of Corsicana and Hazel Clark of
Mabank; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Sam Clark, Freddie Gene Rash, Rexie Lee Folmar, Brent Folmar,
Wayne Pillans, Robert Pillans, Bill Shelton and Harry Hughes.

at his residence.
Service will be at 2 p. Friday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Burial will be
in the Oakwood Cemetery with Carl

McCammon was born Oct.5, 1910 in Corsicana, where he had resided with the
exception of six years he lived in Austin. He continued to maintain a residence
in Corsicana while in Austin. He graduated from Corsicana High School
[1928],
a pre-medical course at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and
the school of Mortuary Science-Dallas. He was employed with McCammon Funeral
Home from 1930-1965, went to work at the Texas State Board of Morticians as an
investigator and field representative Oct. 1, 1967, and made executive secretary
of the State Board of Morticians as of March 1, 1974. He retired Jan. 1, 1980.
He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church; a deacon; past president
of the Board of Deacons Third Avenue Presbyterian Church; chairman of the
Committee to Study Feasibility of Consolidations with First Presbyterian Church;
Presi8dent Corsicana Rotary Club 1953-1954; past president of the Junior Chamber
of Commerce; member Governor James Allred’s Committee of 100 For Traffic Safety.
He also served at a Lt. Col. In Alabama State Militia after being appointed by
Gov. Wallace Dec. 19, 1967, and was a licensed instructor/trainer in first aid
for the American Red Cross during World War II. He was also a member of Kappa
Sigma Fraternity (50 year member) initiated by Alpha ETA Chapter; Secretary
Treasurer George Washington University, Washington, D. C.; affiliated with Kappa
Sigma Chapter while in SMU; and was a past chancellor commander Knight of
Pythias-Corsicana Lodge.
Survivors include a wife, Louise McCammon of Corsicana; and a sister Mrs. A. R.
McElwrath of Houston.
Pallbearers will be Victor D. Howell, June P. Clark, Luther C. Boswell, Fred
Rasmussen, Vernon Clark, Joe P. Marsh, Odell Green, George Walker and Jay Payne.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Mike McElwrath, Erwin McGraw, C. J. Green and Bud
Curington.

She was born Nov. 7,1905 in Crockett. She was a member of the First Methodist
Church.
She graduated from Baylor University 1928 and taught school with the Corsicana
Independent School District.
She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of
the Confederacy and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. .
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Sisco, Dec. 18, 1983.
Survivors include one son, Jack Sisco of Dallas, one cousin, Alline Miller of
Oakwood, Texas; one niece, Mary Sue Gooch of McGregor, Texas; one grandson, Jeff
Sisco of Wilton, Wash; one granddaughter, Sue Ann Morris of Dallas, and six
great-grandchildren.

A housewife and a private nurse, Mrs. Slade had lived in Streetman for 82 years.
She was a Baptist.

Memorial Hospital.

Resthaven Memorial Park, with Corley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
A native of Miles, he had lived in Corsicana 57 years. He was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Worthy, of Corsicana; one daughter, Mary Ann
McColpin, of Houston; and one grandson, Kelly McColpin, of Houston.

Farmer Is Found Dead In His Field Monday Afternoon
J. A. Worthy Died From Stroke Apoplexy Is Corner’s Verdict
J. A. Worthy farmer aged 68 years, was found dead in a field five miles east of
Corsicana Monday afternoon at 5 o’clock. J. L. Cox, justice of the peace
returned a corner’s verdict of death from apoplexy.
Mr. Worthy resided on the Ab King farm. He had been in the corn field with
others who were working was thought to have gone to his house. His body was
discovered some time later.
Surviving are his wife, one son J. A. Worthy Jr. of Corsicana; two brothers, M.
W. Worthy of Bird, and I W. Worthy of Avalon; and three sisters, Mrs. A. C.
Southard of Avalon, Mrs. Minnie Rose of Bardwell, and Mrs. Zonie Mauldon of
Voss.
Funeral services were held from the family home Tuesday afternoon at 1:30
o’clock and interment was made in the Grady cemetery near Bardwell. Rev. J. M.
Moran, Baptist minister, of Coolidge, conducted the services.
The Funeral was directed by the Corley-McMahon funeral home.

nephews.

She was born September 14, 1904. She was a homemaker and a member of the
Richland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. E. (Tate) Tidwell; one son David
Tidwell; one daughter, Ann Carroll; and one grandson, Wayne Tidwell.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Glass of Richland; three sons, Howard
Tidwell of Ennis; Douglas Tidwell of Richland and Joe Tidwell of Mesquite;
eleven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; one sister Myrtice Strickland
and one brother, Walker Roney both of Clovis, Calif.; and a number of nieces and
nephews.

Sanders, and Dough Currin.

She was born Dec. 23, 1913, in Frost, and had lived in Corsicana for 30 years.
She was a genealogist with the Corsicana Public Library, and helped many
families with their genealogy. She was a member of St Luke United Methodist
Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Le Otie Ovelle Moore in 1988, and her
brother, Pete Moore in 1978.
Survivors include her husband Barney Duncan of Ogden, Utah; one nephew, Nicky
Moore of Carrollton; one niece, Nancy Alana Johnson of Star Harbor; one aunt,
Zella Shanks of Waco; and numerous cousins.
The family will receive visitors at Corley Funeral Home between 7 p.m. and 8:30
p.m. tonight.

Julius, Andrew, Lester, and Jake Barker; and one sister, Sallie Mae McAdams.
Survivors include his wife, Ada Baker of Fairfield; three daughters, Christine
Easterling, and Ludy Talley, both of Fairfield; and Mackie Bonner of Lorena; six
grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; and one brother Ruben Baker of

Karen Raley of Huntsville, Connie Estes of Corsicana and Gale Miller of Bryan;

Earl Baty of New Caney; three sisters, Ruth Sparkman of Teague, Lorane Rickard

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Jolly Christian, on Sept 5, 1976,
and by four sons.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Arvin Christian of Chander and Odis D.
Christian of Kirvin; one daughter Myrtis E. Eubanks of Dallas, 13 grandchildren,
28 great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Deacons of the Eighth Avenue Baptist Church
will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Lassiter.
