George Ross "Skeeter"
Edwards
Jan 29, 1938 - Apr 26, 2023
George
(Skeeter) Ross Edwards joined his Savior and his loved
ones in heaven on April 26, 2023. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Kieffer & Pauline Edwards;
brothers, Walter and James; son Andy Edwards; and
numerous other beloved family members.
George is survived by his wife, Dixie; sister Patsy
Hewett; children Terry Edwards and Denise; Amy Elrod and
Tommy; Grandchildren Monica Arabie and David; Caleb
Moore and Laura; Andy Kludy and Katie; Hayden Elrod and
Ashley; Toby Edwards; and great-grandchildren Nicollette,
Evangeline, Genevieve, John Paul, James, Vivienne, and
Alexandria Arabie; Jack and Leighton Moore; Mia and
Hunter Kludy; Callen and Aria Elrod; and a multitude of
beloved nieces and nephews.
George was born in Marfa and lived in West Texas until
the family moved to Johnson City when he was 8 years
old. George graduated high school in Johnson City and
graduated college from Southwest Texas (now Texas State)
in 1962. George continued his education and earned a
master's degree from Sam Houston in 1968 and a
mid-management certification for principals from UT
Tyler in 1983. He met his wife Dixie at college; they
married in 1962 and had three children. He joined the
National Guard upon entering college, served all through
college and was honorably discharged in 1967. He spent
his professional life as an educator in Texas for 33
years, first as a Coach and later as a Principal. After
retiring, George continued his lifetime of service
through his church and charitable activities. He was a
deacon for 51 years. He drove the bus for the FBC Kerens
bus ministry. He was the Kerens coordinator for Meals on
Wheels from 1998 to 2019. He assisted with Vacation
Bible School almost every year since 1969. And in 2019,
the Kerens Chamber of Commerce awarded him (and Dixie)
with Kerens Citizens of the Year.
As a lifelong coach, George loved sports. Every year
while he was coaching, he would pull his children out of
school and take them to Austin for the Texas Basketball
State Championship tournament. Even after he moved into
administration, he continued to attend high school
sporting events and support the Bobcats, even acting as
the football announcer for many years. He also loved
going to his grandchildren's sporting events, from pee
wee sports all the way to the Texas Boys Baseball State
Championship tournament and the College World Series.
For several years, he would take his grandsons to
opening day for the Texas Rangers. After all his
grandchildren "retired" from organized sports, he then
got to start over and go to his great grandchildren's
sporting events.
George also loved to play games with his family and
friends. Domino games, card games, party games,
whatever, if the question "Who wants to play...?" was
asked, his answer was always "ME".
Every summer, grandkids would get to spend a week's
vacation at Granddad's home. Grandchildren, great
grandchildren, nieces, and nephews were all welcome for
the week of Vacation Bible School. At all family events,
George loved to get out the pencil and ruler and measure
all the children's heights. There is a special door in
the family room where heights have been recorded since
1996.
George touched the lives of countless people over the
years. He was always available whenever needed; for
family, friends, students, or anyone in need. In any
circumstance, he was ready with appropriate action, be
it an encouraging word, a prayer, or a helping hand.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on
Saturday, April 29th at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church
Kerens, TX, 200 SW 2nd St. Kerens, TX 75144.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be

School snacks fund or Bus Ministry fund. Online

James
Edward Taylor,
Maj. Gen.
Jun 26, 1906 - Oct 16, 1995
James Edward Taylor,
Major General, Retired, died October 13, 1995, in Austin,
Texas. General Taylor was born in San Marcos, Texas in 1906.
He was educated at San Marcos Academy and received his
degree from Baylor University in 1927.
After college and prior to World War II, he was the
publisher and editor of weekly newspapers in Kerens and
Corsicana, Texas. He served two terms in the Texas House of
Representatives in 1939 and 1941 and three terms in the
Texas Senate in 1945, 1947, and 1949.
In 1938 General Taylor enlisted in the Kerens 'E' Battery,
132nd Filed Artillery, Texas National Guard as a private. In
November of 1940, he entered the armed services with the
36th Infantry Division and was mobilized as a Second
Lieutenant. He served with the 36th Division throughout
World War II and was in North Africa, Italy and France,
participating in the landings at Salerno, Anzio and Southern
France. He advanced in rank from Second Lieutenant to
Lieutenant Colonel and commanded the 131st Field Artillery
Battalion throughout the Italian and Southern France
campaigns. He was decorated three times, holding the Silver
Star, the Bronze Star and the French Croix de Guerre.
After the war he served three sessions in the Texas Senate
(1945, 1947 and 1949). During this period the Texas National
Guard was undergoing reorganization and then Lieutenant
Colonel Taylor became the Executive Officer of the 36th
Division Artillery. In 1947, he was promoted to Colonel and
in 1948 he became the Chief of Staff of the 36th. In
February of 1953 he was made Commanding General of the 36th
Division Artillery and promoted to Brigadier General. This
position he held until his appointment as Adjutant General
of Texas and promotion to Major General.
In 1948 General Taylor headed the Gilmer-Aikin 'Citizens
Committee on Education.' In the opinion of most observers of
the progress of educational reform in Texas, from the
creation of the interim committee to study the problem
through the final enactment of the Gilmer-Aiken bills,
Senator Taylor more than any other person deserves credit
for the success of the program. The purpose of such program
being a good education for all kinds and classes of
children. He was vice-chairman of the University of Texas
'Committee of 75' and a member of Texas A&M University
'Century Coucil.'
The Texas State Teachers Association honored him with a
lifetime membership in that organization in 1949 for his
contributions to public education. General Taylor resigned
from the Senate in 1949 to assume the leadership of Texas
Motor Transportation Association. He headed the truck and
bus organization for eighteen years. From 1967 to 1990 he
acted as a consultant to the industry and other state
associations.
General Taylor is a past president and director of the Texas
Society of Association Executives. In 1975 he was named
TSAE's 'Outstanding Executive.' He is a 'Certified
Association Executive' of the American Society of
Association Executives and in 1967 received their Key Award
for distinguished service. He is a life member of Sigma
Delta Chi, professional journalism society. He is a past
president of the 36th Division Association, an organization
of veterans of the Texas National Guard who served in World
War I and II. He was a Scottish Rite Mason KCCH and Shriner,

Abner Bogner Stubbs
Mar 2, 1925 - Oct 25, 2019
IN
THE CARE OF
Zoeller Funeral Home
Abner Bogner Stubbs passed away on Friday, October 25,
2019 in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born in Corsicana,
Texas on March 2, 1925 to Loyd and Pauline Stubbs.
A central Texas man from humble beginnings, Bogner grew
in stature and character under the watchful eyes of
family, players, church and God. He worked his entire
life to serve those who served him, be it his teachers
or friends. He put himself through the University of
Tulsa on a football scholarship, his coaches having seen
in him a determination, toughness and dedication to the
team, all of which made him a valuable asset to the
university. In 1947, he met his beautiful wife,
Willidean, during his first year of coaching in
Oklahoma. He knew she was the one for him - he asked her
to marry him on their first date and she accepted. For
the next 63 years until she passed away in 2010, he was
dedicated to her and to their two sons. Suffering from
Alzheimer's for the last 10 years of her life, Willidean,
until the end, always seemed to know when Bogner was
there, as he went every day to feed her lunch and
dinner. And only around that schedule did he carve out
time to play golf, watch sporting events and be an
active member of his church. As serious in raising his
sons as he was in mentoring his players, Bogner lived
his philosophy to be strong in the face of adversity and
to value the dignity of hard work. He never met a
stranger, endearing himself to all who knew him.
However, growing up in tough and hard circumstances
taught him kindness and compassion, two of his strongest
qualities. Pawpaw's kids, grandkids, and great grandkids
alike will so miss him, but we know he is finally back
with his bride who has been waiting for him to join her.
We take comfort that he was a faithful servant on earth
and is welcomed into heaven.
Bogner is survived by his sons Lee (Linda) of San
Antonio, Texas and Bogner (Kay) of Austin, Texas;
grandchildren Jordan Cienski (Caleb), Clay Stubbs, Katie
Pavlica (Cory) and Collin Stubbs (Katy); great-grand
children Jack, Ford, and Ava Cienski. Bogner is preceded
in death by his parents Loyd and Pauline Stubbs and
brother Norman Stubbs.
A Public Visitation with Viewing will be held on
Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at
Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St, New Braunfels,
Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday,
October 31, 2019 at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church,
733 W Cross St, New Braunfels, Texas. In lieu of flowers
please make a donation to your favorite charity in honor
