Rossie Lee (Jones) Roundtree
Jan 14, 1918 - Apr 25, 2008

Mrs. Roundtree was born the ninth of nine children to the union of Walter and Anna Jones (preceded her death) in Leona, Texas on Jan. 14, 1918. All of her sisters and brothers preceded her in death. She was married to Napoleon Polk (who preceded her in death). To this union was born four children; Lenora (preceded her in death in 1973), son Johnnie (preceded her in death in 1998), Mary Lee, and Napoleon Jr. Years later she was wed to Jethro Roundtree (who preceded her in death). Rossie accepted Christ as her personal savior at a very young age and attended Two-Mile Methodist Church as well as received her formal education in Lenora, Texas. After relocating to Madisonville, she united with the Free Pentecostal House of Prayer where she served as "Mother" of the church. She was also instrumental in giving needed funds and helping to raise funds for the construction of the church. Rossie remained a faithful and dedicated member until her health began to fail. The old adage that goes "to know her was to love her" rings true of Rossie. She will truly be missed, but God in His infinite wisdom knew that she had fought a good fight, finished her course, and like a good father does at the end of the day, He calls one home from labor to reward. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: son, Napoleon Polk and daughter, Mary Lee Proctor, both of Madisonville; 15 grandsons; seven grandsons whom she raised as her own after the death of Lenora; and three granddaughters. Honorable mention includes her only great-granddaughter, Brittany C. Robinson and nephew, Elbert Turner, who cared for her in her last years; other great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Tiny Woods, Huntsville Home Care; Texas Home Health Care and Hospice-Brazos Valley for the care that they rendered to her. Arrangements by Ross and Johnson Mortuary.

In Memory of Joe Fred Barton

Friday eve., June 11, the death angel came to the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Barton and claimed for God their only child. The illness that resulted in little Joe Fred's death lasted only a few hours, yet all availaple [sic] means were used to save the little life. About 7:30 he drank kerosene oil and at 11:00 God saw fit to ease his suffering and take him home to everlasting joy and rest.

Joe Fred came to this earth on December 23, 1924, and the joy that his being brought into the world radiated to the hearts of all who new [sic] him. There are left behind him a father and mother, grandfather and two grandmothers and numerous relatives and friends yet they may all be comforted by the words of the Psalmist David uttered after the death of his child; "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord."

The entire community extends deepest sympathy to the sorrowing loved ones. All that can be done to alleviate thier burden will be gladly done for cannot we all say with one accord:

"I too have had sorrow
And I shed a tear
For the white hearse stood
At my own door one day."

Melba "Mimi" (White) Bowers
Nov 27, 1938 - Apr 7, 2008

ODESSA On Monday April 7, 2008, Melba "Mimi" Bowers, 69, of Odessa passed away. Her memory will continue to live in the lives of those who knew and loved her.

Melba was born Nov. 27, 1938, in Monahans, Texas.

She married Troy Bowers on November 27, 1958, in Odessa.

Melba's one true love was her family. It has been commented by more than one person that Melba's love, devotion and attentiveness to her husband was truly amazing. After the passing of Troy, her health and general outlook steadily declined. If ever anyone died of a broken heart ... it is Melba Bowers.

Together Troy and Melba built a network of friends and family that learned quickly how to enjoy life. Whether Melba was telling a story or a story was being told about Melba - it was always a "tale worth hearing." Her quick wit and love for the spotlight will be sorely missed.

Melba was a member of the American Legion and in the past, very active in the Democratic Party and Flag Day.

She is survived by her son, Ron Bowers; grandchildren, Brandon Bowers, Shane Bowers, Paige Eichman, Brett Bowers and Leah Showers; sister-in-law, Sallie White; and brother, Arthur Lynn White.

Melba is preceded in death by her husband, Troy and her son, Ricky Bowers; brothers, Wilford, Charles, Donald and sister, Barbra.
