GILLEN, William Calvin - served in the Second Miss. Partisan Rangers, Co. E. He was a Sgt. He moved to Tippah (or Union) Co. in 1848 from Jefferson Co., Al. He married Mahalia Rowe (whose 3 brothers serving from Pontotoc Co. were killed in the Civil War!) on Aug. 28, 1848. W.C. was born May 17, 1824 and Mahalia on April 28, 1827. They had nine children who were raised in this county. Mahalia died July 7, 1899. She is buried in Cornerstone Cemetery. W. C. then went to Navarro Co., Tx. to live with four of his children that had moved to Texas. He died March 13, 1905 and is buried in Grange Hall Cemetery, Navarro Co., Texas

Alonzo Greer enlisted in Co. G, 1st Miss. Cav. in Macon, MS, on March 11, 1861.  This company was call the Noxubee Troopers.  His name appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War of Co. G, 1st Miss Regiment Vol. Cavalry, Confederate States Army, commanded by Col. R. A. Pinson, surrendered at Citronelle, Ala., by Lieut. Gen. R. Taylor, C. S. A., May 4, 1865, and paroled at Columbus, Miss. May 16, 1865.    Alonzo and John B. Greer were brothers of Patrick H. Greer who is buried in the Zollicoffer Family Cemetery) just west of Irene, Hill Co., TX.

Warren Ney Haynes, b. 7 April, 1833 in N.C. d. 5 Feb. 1905, Navarro County, TX. Enlisted 10 March 1862 in Anderson county. Served 'till the close of the war in Company "H" of Hood's First Texas under Captain W. H. Gaston and Colonel Wigfall then Colonel A. T. Rainey. His widow, Caroline Hollingsworth Haynes, (sister of Nathan also of Hood's First Texas, daughter of Barnett Glenn Hollingsworth) b. 6 May 1842 received a pension from March 1, 1915 'til her death on 26 January, 1937 under pension file # 30325. W. N. and Caroline Haynes are both buried in Frost cemetery in Navarro county. [Information from Peggy Loar  11/1998]

Raleigh was sometimes called "Rolly" or "Roll". He was the son of Charnell Hightower and Elon Watts. He married Aletha Jane Thompson Dec 18, 1850 in Chickasaw Co., MS. Jane's father gave them a pair of mules and a wagon to start their life on the frontier. They had nine children. Raleigh was buried in his Confederate Army uniform. Aletha Jane is also buried at Frost Cemetery.

My great great grandfather William Z. Howard was in Hood's Brigade and is also buried at the old Melton cemetery. He was married to Elizabeth Welch dau of the above Michael Welch. His name is in the NORTH WEST Texas books as being in Hood's Brigade. His grave marker is in the DRESDEN cemetery along with his wife's. The markers were moved from the Melton cemetery when portions of it were abandoned and fenced off for pasture back in the 50s.
