Charles H. Allyn enlisted in the Civil War on the 26th day of April, 1961, as a member of the 4th Wisconsin Regiment of Volunteers, to serve three years for the United States. On January 75h, 1863, he was temporarily detailed as Clerk at Headquarters, Department of the Gulf, then at New Orleans, Louisiana, and on March 6th, 1863, his appointment was made permanent, and he continued to serve in that capacity during the time he was in the war.

On July 6th, 1864, by order No. 98, issued at New Orleans by James Keefe, captain in command of Company 6 of the 4th Wisconsin Regiment of Volunteers, he was honorably discharged from the service in consequence of the expiration of the term for which he enlisted, and on the bottom of the said order [see obit for more details]

Enlisted in "Navarro Rifles" militia on July 17, 1861.  Was original first sergeant of the unit which became a part of Company I, 4th Texas infantry, Army of North Virginia.  Wounded twice during war and was promoted to Captain before war's end.  Wife, Eliza Conner.  Became minister of several churches in Navarro County, served as Navarro County Treasurer. 1st sergeant/lieutenant/captain.  Was the original 1st sergeant of the company.  He was promoted to 2nd lieutenant on Dec 14, 1861 and to captain on Nov 10, 1863.  Was wounded in the thigh in the battle of Gaines' Mill, Virginia on June 27, 1862.  While leading the company in battle at Chickamauga on September 19 or 20, 1863, Beasley was wounded again.  Died in Navarro County in 1906

He enlisted in Cabarrus Co. NC in Feb, 1862 and mustered into service at Goldsboro, NC as a Pvt. In Co. F, 1st Reg NC. He served in Seven Days Battle, around Richmond, Manassas, Culpepper Courthouse, Brandy Station, Shorpsburg, Gettysburg, Petersburg. He was promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant. He was wounded at Barbers Cross Roads, Dec, 1862 when he was captured and paroled on the battle field being exchanged Jan. 1, 1863. He went to hospital at Lynchburg, VA. He received his finial discharge Apr. 9, 1865 at Appomattox Courthouse on account of Gen. Lee's surrender.

Dresden's Texas Cavalry, Company I, 19th Texas Cavalry  Private, age 19. He was 6' 12" tall, had gray eyes, brown hair, light complexioned.  He was elected corporal on October 19, 1862.  He was a farmer.

Your list of vets buried in Navarro County lists a Wm T Campbell 1848-1932 buried at Blooming Grove as being a member of the Carroll group out of Navarro County...There WAS a Wm T Campbell in Carroll's outfit but it wasn't my great grandfather .. who is buried at Blooming Grove 1848 - 1932. He is William F Campbell and was in Nacogdoches during the Civil War with his family...have never found any service records on him. And he is definitely not the one you have listed.

Became justice of Peace in the Rural Shade area.  Later Post Master of Rural Shade from 1861 to 1867, except for parts of 1863, 1864, & 1865 in which he first enlisted in the Navarro County rifles, 19th brigade of the CSA and was sworn in as a Staff Sergeant with the duties of an Appraiser at Camp Murrah, Freestone County.  In Nov of 1863 he was made a full First Lieutenant and given Command of "L" Troop.  He was stationed in Galveston, TX.  On Jan 30, 1864, he was paid $100.00 in confederate money as he commissioned officer salary for the year.
