God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you
and whispered, "Come with Me."
With tearful eyes we
watched you slowly fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
we would not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
your hard-working hands put to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

Shirline (Johnson) Garland
Jan 25, 1955 - Feb 25, 2015

Argie Shirline Garland, age 60, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.

She was born in Mexia, Texas on January 25, 1955 daughter of Hattie Mae Judy Johnson and Argie AJ Johnson.

Shirline was a what you see is what you get kind of person. She never sugar coated much; so if she called you a friend you were truly a friend.
She was very talented. She played the piano, organ and accordion beautifully. She loved working crossword puzzles and drinking Dr. Pepper. When the electronic age came into play Facebook was her favorite place to go because she loved all the games it had to offer, 42 Dominoes being one of her favorites. You had to be good to beat her. Shirline was a very intelligent person, reading from a Sixth grade geography book when she was only four years old. She even helped her older sister with homework! She loved her family; she was generous and would give of herself, time and money even when she had very little herself.

She was a typical big sister also. She took great pleasure in aggravating her little sister over the years, telling her that she had a crooked face and that she was adopted . She still needed her Mama, calling her for advice or when she was sick and from time to time just to pray with her. Shirline loved the Lord. She adored her children and grandchildren; she cared for them and did for them unconditionally. Her grandchildren called her Nana and loved being with her.

Along with her sister, Gail, she was an unfinished life - Gone too Soon - and we will miss her terribly. She was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband, Sidney Garland of Corsicana; daughters, Ondrea Northern and husband Lance of Wortham and Tonya Doyle of Corsicana; son, Kinon Prewitt of Corsicana; mother, Hattie Mae Judy Johnson of Corsicana; sisters, Frances Richardson of Goldthwaite and Kim Vasquez of Corsicana; her stepchildren, Tracy Garland of Hillsboro, Stacy Miller and husband Clifton of Blooming Grove, and Chris Garland of Corsicana; her grandchildren, Warren, Kelsie, Jarod, Brandon, Tatum, Cadence, Jonathon, Jacob, Joshua Joseph, Taylor Kylie, Destiny, Erin and Amber; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a close friend, Cathy Mighton of Corsicana.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gary W. Johnson and the Rev. Anthony Pennington officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to any Suicide Prevention Organization of your choice.

Joyce Doylene (Ragan) Nevill
Oct. 26, 1933 - May 9, 2024

Joyce Doylene Nevill, 90, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 9, 2024, in Corsicana, Texas.

Doylene was born on October 26, 1933, to Willie Doyle and Mamie Ragan in Chatfield, Texas. She attended school in the Chatfield area. On July 21, 1951, she married Lee Edwin Nevill. They loved each other and built a good life a life centered on Christ, family, and friends. Their union lasted until Ed's death in 2019.

During her earthly time, she was employed at the Glove Factory, Adams Hat Factory, and Haggar Slacks.

Doylene was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. She was a congregational member of West Tenth Avenue Church of Christ in Corsicana, the Trinidad Church of Christ, and the North Beaton Church of Christ. She was a very giving and faithful woman. She and Ed would often invite visiting preachers over to their home after Sunday service and enjoy conversation and fellowship with a good meal. Doylene sat by the bedside of church members when they fell ill. She was not just a hearer of the Word. She was a doer.

Doylene took pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. From taking camping trips with her young kids, entertaining a house full of grandchildren on their weekend visits to Granny and Papa's, celebrating the holidays and birthdays, or taking family vacations, Doylene always showed her love and devotion to family.
If needed, she was only a phone call away.

Doylene enjoyed when company came over to the house. There was no formal invitation needed. Looking out the window to see who was pulling up in the driveway was part of her and Ed's daily life. If people stopped by and a visitor was already there, that was okay - the more the merrier.
Fellowshipping with others was important to Doylene. She was always prepared to offer a cup of coffee and a sweet treat anytime company arrived.

Doylene loved to cook, crochet, garden, and quilt. In fact, each of her grandchildren were gifted a quilt upon high school graduation. Doylene enjoyed sitting around her kitchen table, talking and playing card games with ladies from church and her grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors.
When younger, she and Ed took their family camping. Later on in life, they spent a lot of time traveling the country in an RV, making stops at different places to fish and enjoy nature.

The Lord has called His good and faithful servant Home. Even though Doylene's family and friends will truly miss her, they are grateful to the Lord and His promise that they will get to see her again one day soon.

Psalms 23:6

Surely your goodness and love will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

forever.

She was preceded in death by parents, Willie Doyle and Mamie Ragan; loving husband, Lee Edwin Nevill; son-in-law, Larry Wayne Heathcote; grandson, Matthew Edward Thomas; grandson-in-law, Shawn Paul Skaggs; and brother, Donald Keefer Ragan.

Doylene is survived by her children, Beverly Kay Heathcote, Sharon Thomas and husband, Daniel E., Pamela Diane Thomas and husband, Daniel G., Judy Elaine Smith and husband, Curtis D., and Steven Wayne Nevill and wife, Pamela; grandchildren, Barry Lynn Heathcote, Christina Michelle Skaggs, Emily Rebecca Thomas, Stephanie Renee Helms and husband, Thomas Wayne, Melanie Elizabeth Johnston and husband, James, Randal Eric Singleton and wife, Kasey, Rowdy Carpenter and wife, Amanda, and Ashley Thomas (wid. Matthew Thomas); great-grandchildren, Laura Briceno, Haydin Thomas, Holdin Thomas, Bailey Watson, Collin Watson, Will Thedford, Peytan Johnston, Connor Johnston, Katelyn Helms, Paislee Rashael Singleton, Corbin Randal Singleton, and Rowdy Lee Carpenter; sister, Billie Jo Giles Fluker; sister-in-law, Billie Lois Nevill; brother-in-law, Al "Buck" Bentley; her two precious fur babies, Sally and Blondie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Corley Funeral Home. Billye Jean Hicks, 87, of Corsicana, passed away on January 13, 2021, at Legacy West Nursing. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

On July 26, 1933, Billye Jane Peace entered the world and
the arms of her parents, Lena and Will Peace of Dallas, TX. Being more mature in age, they were ecstatic upon her birth and fondly called her by her middle name. Though Jane was the only child of their marriage, she became the younger sibling to 2 half-sisters and an aunt to a beloved nephew. Jane grew up to be a lively and bright student involved in a host of school activities. She was most proud of becoming her high school's majorette, a huge honor (something her children heard about often!).

Jane attended Texas College in Tyler, TX after graduating from high school, and there she met the love of her life, Louis David Hicks. Both were very committed to each other, their studies, their respective sorority/fraternity, becoming teachers and creating a family.

Billye Jane, a loving mother, was supportive, kind and never minced words. Her sense of humor was witty and quick. Those strong maternal skills and savviness for teaching made her stellar in the classroom while teaching reading and later, American History. Billye Jean was passionate and fiercely committed to the students she served through her spirited and engaging teaching style for more than 40 years. She wasn't simply a great teacher, but a mentor and advocate for her students.

At home, Billye Jane adored entertaining. One would find a host of guests surrounding her from friends from around the world to the high school football team. She was known for serving the latest and most popular food novelties and drinks. Billye Jane made life fun. B1

During this time, he served as a positive role model and mentor for the students and athletes he taught and coached.

After retiring from teaching and coaching, Stuart and Loanna moved their family to Victoria, TX, where he worked for his father's Tex-Sun Glove Company until its closure. Subsequent endeavors led Stuart to Granbury, TX, where he was hired by the Pecan Plantation Country Club to oversee and manage the club's marina and grill located on Lake Granbury. Members and visitors to the marina were likely to experience Stuart's gregarious nature, his unreserved chatter, and perhaps enjoy one of his famous hamburgers fresh off the backdoor grill. It was also in Granbury that Stuart met and married his second wife Cassie Beebe and third wife Donna Kay "DK" Beebe.

Danny Ray Miles
June 10, 1947 - Feb 6, 2024

Danny Ray Miles, lovingly nicknamed "Quimby", passed from this life on February 6th, 2024, at the age of 76. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Earl and Elnora Miles, and his younger brother, Randy. He is survived by his beautiful sister, Beverly Taylor and her husband Jeff; and by his three children, Kevin and his wife Krysti, John and his wife Brandee and Janis and her husband Ed, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He leaves behind an immeasurable void.
Quim was born on June 10, 1947, in Galveston, Texas, sparking an odd, lifelong affection for the beach that manifested itself in his home and office decor. He was a son, a brother, a cousin, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a minister, a teacher, a mentor, a counselor, a friend, a co-worker, a community leader, and in his later years, he was also the old man in the red truck that drove 50 on the highway. But he was first and foremost a child and servant of God, and this is what he is most remembered as. Quimby dedicated roughly 50 years of his adult life to youth ministry before officially "retiring" and continuing to serve as a Sunday School teacher and music leader at Central Baptist Church and a substitute teacher in the Blooming Grove ISD, as well as heading up the local Lion's Club. The impact God made through him isn't quantifiable. He was a part of so many people's lives in so many different ways, humbly putting them above himself. The body of Christ was his passion, and he poured himself into the church. If he was given a chance to say some final words, I'm confident it would be this: the Good News of Christ is that the almighty Creator of the universe entered into His own creation at a specific place and time in the person of Jesus Christ, in order that He might live the perfectly righteous and obedient life that was no longer attainable by man, and then sacrifice Himself in death to satisfy the wrath of God's perfect justice, so that we, hopeless in our flawed and sinful nature, could be reconciled back to the holy and righteous God that created us. And because of this, we now have hope. Salvation is offered to us freely by the amazing grace of God, through the gift of faith.
He will be missed here, but Danny Ray is alive and well today with his savior and redeemer, Jesus Christ, and all the saints that have gone before him. As the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8
"I thank my God in all my remembrance of you." Philippians 1:3
Visitation will be Sunday, February 18th from 1pm-2pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 2:00pm Sunday, February 18th in the Chapel at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will have a reception at The Lion's Den in Blooming Grove.

Peggy Jane (Putman) Cannon
Jan 15, 1945 - Apr 16, 2024

Midlothian

On April 16, 2024, Peggy Jane Putman Cannon of Midlothian, Texas went to be with her Lord & Savior. Born on January 15, 1945, in Blooming Grove, Texas to Cecil and Virgie Rene Putman (nee Raley), Peggy was the youngest of their two children. Growing up in Frost, Texas, Peggy played basketball in school and played in the school band. A proud Frost Polar Bear, Peggy maintained lifelong friendships with several members of her graduating class.

Soon after graduation, Peggy married J R Cannon of Italy, Texas on August 23, 1963, in Frost, Texas. She and J R would later have two sons: Michael Jay Cannon (of Midlothian, Texas) and Jason Bradley Cannon (of Houston, Texas). After moving around Texas for a few years, the couple soon settled their family in De Soto, Texas in 1978.

Peggy worked as an executive secretary for several defense contractors and government agencies during her working career. However, she found the most joy in raising a family, being an amazing wife, mother, sister and daughter and perhaps most importantly, being a steadfast follower of Christ. Peggy's capacity for faith set her apart from most people (although she would dispute this).

Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of her faith was how it manifested in her actions. During the construction of her church home during the 1980s, Peggy and her family hosted church services in their living room. Later, Peggy would be a staunch ally of Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to those in need for over a decade. And she was a fixture in Sunday services, Sunday school, and various bible studies over the years. She loved to share the word of God with others.
