Lena Santos Martinez

KNOX CITY, Texas - Lena Santos Martinez, 90, died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at a Fort Worth nursing home.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. tonight at Smith Funeral Home with Julian Estrada officiating. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Santa Rosa Catholic Church with the Rev. Kevin Fagan and Julian Estrada officiating. Burial will be in Knox Cemetery.

Mrs. Martinez was born Nov. 12, 1907, in Eldorado, Texas. She and Dan Martinez were married Feb. 8, 1928, in Navarro County, Texas. He died July 31, 1970. She was a Catholic and a resident of Knox County for 54 years.

Survivors include three sons, Dan of La Crescenta, Calif., Rudy of Visalia, Calif., and Eddie of Long Beach, Calif.; five daughters, Eva Flores of Knox City, Eloise Maldanado of Fort Worth, Rita Kirkpatrick of Saginaw, Texas, Linda Jecha of Austin, Texas, and Alice Johnson of Fort Worth; a sister, Beatrice Rios of Wichita Falls; and a brother, Fermin Acosta of Long Beach.

Frank Marx, 83, of Corsicana, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Marx was born July 20, 1917.

He is survived by his wife, Katharin Marx; sons, Frank M. and Risa Marx; daughter, Susan and Dr. Scott Middleton, all of Corsicana; grandchildren, Hudson and Caleb Marx of Corsicana, Elliot Middleton of Mission Viejo, Calif., Elaine Bartlett of Dallas and Andrea Trieschmann of Little Rock; five great grandchildren; sisters, Catherine Bernard of Louisa Co. Va. and Mary Charlon Starke of Segiun and brother, Bill Marx of Crowley.

Frank Marx Jr., 83, of Corsicana went to be with his Lord Sunday, June 3, 2001 after an extended illness.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel, with the Rev. B.F. Risinger officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Middleton, Phil Pillans, Fred Rasmussen, Ross Maxfield, "Dutch" Schroeder and Richard Garner. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Watson, Jack Pillans, Curtis Richards and the senior men's Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.

Mr. Marx was born July 20, 1917 in Hugo, Okla. He attended school in Paris, Texas and graduated from Paris High School in 1933. He participated in athletics and lettered in football. While in high school, he worked at the Paris News. He later attended Paris Junior College and Baylor University on a football scholarship, graduating from Baylor in 1940 with a degree in business. He was a member of the "B" Association at Baylor and has been a contributor to the President's Club which provides scholarship funds for selected students.

Mr. Marx served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946. He entered the Army just before the bombing of Pearl Harbor and was later assigned to the 13th Airborne Division, stationed in North Carolina and in France. He was discharged with the rank of major. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to Dallas to work for Firestone and was transferred to Corsicana in 1947. He assumed the managership of Stroube Implement Company in 1949 where he worked for over 30 years.

He always had a love for sports of every kind. He was a prominent figure in the early years of Little League baseball and was the "sidekick" of Stuart Beebe as he worked with the summer baseball leagues. In 1954 he took charge of the teen-age league and handled the sophomore league for 20 years. He was a loyal supporter of all aspects of the Baylor athletic program and faithfully attended athletic events at Corsicana High School as long as he was able. After retiring, he substitute taught at the high school for several years, following his students athletic endeavors in track, basketball, girls volleyball and football. On awards day in the spring of 1990, he was presented with the Super Tiger Fan Award in appreciation for his support of the girls athletic program.

Mr. Marx was a man of integrity and honor. His focus was outward toward others, not inward. His life was that of unconscious self-giving, always thinking of the needs of his family and others with little or no thought for himself. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Katharin Marx of Corsicana; son, Frank M. Marx III, and daughter-in-law, Risa Marx of Corsicana; daughter, Susan Middleton, and son-in-law, Dr. Scott Middleton of Corsicana; grandchildren, Hudson Marx and Caleb Marx, both of Corsicana, Elliott Middleton of Mission Viejo, Calif., Elaine Bartlett of Dallas and Andrea Trieschmann of Little Rock, Ark.; five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel, Abigail, Miriam and Elliott Middleton, all of Mission Viejo, Calif.; sisters, Catherine Bernard of Louisa Co., Va. and Mary Charlton Starke of Seguin; brother, Bill Marx of Crowley; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Waurayne and Van Earl Huges of Dimmitt and Waldeen and Imy Holt of Oceanside, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Restoration Fund of First Baptist Church, 510 W. Collin St., Corsicana, Texas 75110.

Willie Mae (Ragsdale) Mason

Willie Mae Mason, 94, of Corsicana passed away Sunday, Sept. 24 in Corsicana.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Ferman Carpenter officiating.

Mrs. Mason was born Jan. 6, 1906 in Barry to Milton and Nannie Lou Ragsdale. She attended Barry School and graduated in May 1923. In September 1923, she enrolled at North Texas Teachers College in Denton. After two years of college she began teaching, and she attended college each summer while teaching. After teaching three years, she enrolled at North Texas for her senior year. She received a B.A. degree in 1929. Following graduation she taught third grade in the Frost Independent School District for six years.

In December 1934, she married J. T. Mason. They resided on a farm near Mertens for 17 years. She was absent from the classroom for 10 years, but in 1944 she returned to teaching. She taught in Brandon and Mertens before returning to Frost to teach. At this time they bought a home in Frost.

In 1950, Mrs. Mason enrolled in night classes at Baylor University to work on her master's degree. In 1952 she received a M.S. degree in elementary education. She retired from teaching in 1971 after having taught 36 years.

She was a member of Westhill Church of Christ, a lifetime member of Texas Retired Teachers and a member of Navarro County Retired Teachers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, J. T. Mason in 1980.
Mrs. Mason is survived by her sister, Jewel Watson of Barry; brother, Roy E. Ragsdale of Corsicana; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Lee Roy "Shank" Matthews, 79, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000 at his residence.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Wilgo Baptist Church with the Rev. A.L. Bell. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The Rev. Matthews was born Oct. 7, 1921 in Corsicana. He was a member of the Wilgo Baptist Church where he served as Associate Minister.

He is survived by his wife, Velma Matthews of Corsicana; stepson, R. O. and Pearl Rice of Dallas; several grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Cornelius Davis of Waco, Helen Miles of Mott and Carrie Mae Shelby of Midland and other relatives and friends.

John Alton Maxwell Jr., 52, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001 in Corsicana.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Aug. 29 at Trinity Christian Fellowship Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Kenneth Barber officiating.

Mr. Maxwell was born Nov. 10, 1948 in Pilot Point. He was a member of Trinity Christian Fellowship Pentecostal Church of God in Corsicana, where he taught the Middler Sunday school class, and the Kiwanis Club. He taught in the public school for 30 years with the Corpus Christi Independent School District, and later with the Corsicana ISD at the Lincoln and alternative school campuses.

Survivors include his wife, Lien Maxwell of Corsicana; father, Johnnie A. Maxwell Sr. of Dallas; daughter, Kim Maxwell of Corsicana; sons, Mark Maxwell of Dallas and BiRu Pham of Corsicana; sister, Patricia Killingsworth of Dallas; granddaughters, Ashlee Freese and Makayla Pham, both of Corsicana; and niece, Terri Neal of Dallas.

John Frank Maxwell Jr., 78, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001 in Corsicana.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at New Chatfield Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Mahoney and Brother Bill Honea officiating.

Mr. Maxwell was born Sept. 8, 1923 in Chatfield. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and was a 50-year member of Picton Masonic Lodge No. 1180.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Maxwell Sr. and Tommie Maxwell; brothers, Aaron Maxwell and Moss Maxwell; sister, Jewell Elizabeth Park; and daughter, Mary Ann Rhoades.

Mr. Maxwell is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pattie Maxwell of Corsicana; son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Debbie Maxwell of Mesquite; granddaughters, Melanie Burleson of Little Rock and Stacey Maxwell of Austin; grandson, John Gary Rhoades of Sulphur Springs; four great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lonnie Mae Mayes, 76, of Barry passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at M. R. Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Bailey as eulogist.

Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

Mrs. Mayes was born Nov. 4, 1924 in Kirvin.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Carwell.

Mrs. Mayes is survived by several grandchildren, Nathaniel Pressley and many other cousins and friends.

Mrs. Mayo was born Oct. 1, 1919 in Navarro County to Walter Lee Nowlin and Fanny (Kirk) Nowlin. She was a member of Walnut Street Church of Christ. On Dec. 24, 1938 she married James Ewen Mayo in Athens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewen Mayo in 1984.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, LaDonna and Kenneth Martin of Seguin, LaDalia and James Hellums of Lockhart, and Jeannie and Jack Leighton of Pandora; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kay Mayo of Newnan, Ga.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Denson; and parents.

Mr. McAfee was born May 22, 1950, in Dallas, son of the late Ira McAfee and Joycelyn Sanford McAfee. He married Martha Whitson on May 26, 1998, in Plano and was a production coordinator.

Services to be held at 3:30 p.m. today at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. LeRoy McAfee, 87, who died Sunday in Twilight Home. Rev. Jack Riley and Rev. V. W. Bane were to officiate with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

She was a native of Kerens and had lived in Navarro County all her life. She was the widow of hte late LeRoy McAfee, a mail carrier. Survivors include five sons, John L. McAfee of Corsicana; H.I. McAfee of Gladewater, Lendon McAfee of Dallas, Rev. Charles J. McAfee of Cleburne and Bobby McAfee of Houston; four daughter, Mrs. Haskel Gray, Mrs. E. L. Brewer and Mrs. A.C. Gray, all of Corsicana, and Mrs. E. J. Hettig of Houston; a sister Mrs Sally Greaham of Enid, Okla, 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

John L. McAfee, 75, of Corsicana, died at veterans hospital in Temple Friday. Service is Monday, 2 p.m., Corley Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bill Grisham officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. He was in the infantry in World War II and served under General Patton and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Methodist church and a merchant for a clothing firm. Survivors include his son, John Mark McAfee, of Arlington; a daughter, Mrs Joan Cravens, of Houston; six grandchildren; two brothers, the Rev. Joe McAfee, of Round Rock, and Bobby McAfee, of Houston; three sisters, Mrs. Marcialete Hettig, of Houston, Mrs. Jean Gray, of Corsicana, and Mrs. Florine Gray, of Corsicana; and a number of nieces and nephews. Private memorial services for Kenneth Maurice McCandless, 39, of Lubbock will be under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

He died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 6, 1960, in San Antonio. He married Rosario Villa McCandless on Jan. 4, 1987, in Coyanosa. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1979.

He also graduated from Sul Ross State University in 1985 with a bachelor's degree. He received his teaching certificate from Texas Tech. He was employed by Family Oxygen.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bill and James, both of Lubbock; his parents, Bill and Suzanne McCandless of San Antonio; a brother, Patrick McCandless of McKinney; a sister, Betsy McCandless of Austin; and a grandmother, Virginia Stark of San Antonio.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Corley Funeral Chapel with Ferman Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. McCann "Nanny" was born June 20, 1924 in Winkler, Freestone County. She worked as a telephone operator at Southwestern Bell. She owned and operated a beauty salon in Corsicana, and for many years worked for Safeway Food Stores. She was a devoted Christian and member of Westhill Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Billy Joe McCann in 1987; parents, William Davis "Dick" and Margaret Brown Walker; and brothers, James W. "Jimbo" and George A. "Andy" Walker.

Mrs. McCann is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon McCann Howard and Jim R. Howard of Corsicana; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and R.C. Mrs. McCann died Monday, July 16, at her home.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Howard; two sisters, Lynn Wetzel of Kenai, Alaska, and Barbara Hayes of Eunice; two grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe McCann; her parents, Margaret and Dick Walker; and two brothers, James and Jack.

McCLENNAHAN LYNDELLE (White) went to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 26, 2000 after a long series of illnesses. Born in Retreat, Texas April 30, 1917 to Beulah (Sutton) and J.C. White, she was 83 years young and leaves many relatives and friends to rejoice her passing from this life to that place reserved for her by Jesus Christ. Gone ahead to greet her are her husband of 34 year, Claude R. "Mac" McClennahan Sr., her grandson O. Duane "Dee" Fisher Jr., her brother Harmon White and a stepdaughter, more like a sister, Mary Ann Smith. She is survived by her son: J. Duane Fisher, Granddaughter Wendy Testerman and husband Chris, Grandson Kelly Fisher and wife Colleen as well as two great-grandsons Jonathan Duane Fisher III and Colton Matthew Fisher. Others in her extended family are stepdaughter Margaret Tynes, stepson Claude McClennahan Jr. and their children and granlchildren. Lyndelle was active for many years at Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Oak Cliff and later at Christ Fellowship Church in Arlington where she was an eager volunteer. John H. McCord

The Rev. John H. McCord, 69, of Kerens passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Paschal Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Kerens Presbyterian Church with Ministers Tom Prentiss, Charles A. Reese and Rita Wilson officiating.

McCord, a native of Kerens, was born Jan. 13, 1932 in Waco. He was a descendent of the first settlers of east Navarro County, Wadeville and later Kerens. His maternal great-great-great grandfather, Robert Smith, came to the area with those who settled on the Wadeville site, a portion of which is on the Smith-McCord farm south of Kerens. Other great-great-great grandparents were the Owen family who settled in Elm Flat.

McCord, a graduate of Kerens High School, was president of the class of 1949. He attended Navarro College and was president of the student body from 1950 to 1951. He graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio and was president of the senior class from 1952 to 1953. For the summer of 1953 he was student minister of his home church and later that summer he married Marion Sue Steinman of Abilene and student of Trinity University.

He attended Austin Presbyterian Seminary from 1953 to 1954 and then served three years at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Corsicana as director of Christian education. During that time his daughters, Elizabeth Lynne and Kathryn Anne, were born. The McCords returned to the seminary in Austin in 1957 where he received his graduate degree of theology in 1959 and was ordained in March of 1960 as a minister of the Lott and Fairview Presbyterian churches in Falls County, Heart of Texas Parish. He served Austin Avenue Presbyterian Church of Brownwood from 1961 to 1963; First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville from 1963 to 1969; Central Presbyterian Church of Waxahachie from 1969 to 1985; and an interim ministry at the Gilmont Presbyterian Center near Gilmer from 1985 to 1986.

In 1986, the McCords semi-retired in Kerens and he served as a tent-maker minister in the Fairfield Harmony Presbyterian Church from 1986 to 1997, when he finally retired, enjoying participation with church, family and friends in Kerens and neighboring communities.

He served a number of years as a member of and chairman of the horticulture committee of the Navarro County Extension Service program council and was active in grafting pecan trees in Navarro and Ellis counties. McCord was a member and past president of the Corsicana Miniature Aircraft Club. He was active in several areas during his personal life, as a scout master and as a Girl Scout committee member. He was also a member of Presbytery committees, nominating committee and member and chairman of the committee of Christian education. He was a member of American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, community choruses and band boosters. He was the first president of the Waxahachie Bass Club. His latest joy was serving on the committee that produced "Remembering Kerens" and helping with the Kerens Class of 1949 reunions and the Barracks Bunch reunions at Navarro College. His motto was "Faithful to God, family, friends and strangers.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eldridge McCord in 1960; and his mother, Walta Valkey Smith McCord in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Sue McCord of Kerens; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Danny Jackson of Waco and Kathy and Jerry Cunningham, and grandchildren, Randy, Alicia and Julie, all of Lewisville; sisters, Delia Ann Lonon of Hurst and Marilyn Carter of Bedford; and brothers, Neal McCord of Nacogdoches and Dr. Eddie McCord of Mansfield; and many beloved relatives and friends.

William Alford McCraw, 84, passed away Saturday, November 7, 1998 at his home after a long illness. He was retired from Reynolds Aluminum on March 25, 1975. He was born June 9, 1914 to parents William H. "Billy" McCraw and Cassandra Nevill McCraw. He married Mary Gelene Spence on June 9, 1934. He moved from Purdon, Texas to Corpus Christi, Texas in June 1953.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Beauford C. McCraw and H. L. "Blackie" McCraw, two sisters Christine Hansen and Opal Parrish.

He was a member of Second Baptist Church and a member of Independent Lodge No. 1337 AF-AM and received his 50 yr. pen and certificate August 1995. He was also a 50 yr. member of Grand Council R & SM of Texas August 1996, 50 yr. Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Texas, July 19996, 50 yr. Grand Commandery Knight Templar January 14, 1997. Member of Al Amin Shrine Temple. Charter Member of Independent Chapter No. 1044, O.E.S.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a wonderful friend. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his loving wife and best friend of 64 yrs. Mary Gelene McCraw of Corpus Christi, Texas; a son, William Reginald (Judy) McCraw of Anderson, S.C.; daughter, Mary Margaret (Harry) Hebert of Corpus Christi, Tx.; six grandchildren, William Glen McCraw, Peggy Lynn Westhead, Timothy Dean (Kim) McCraw, all of Anderson, S.C.; Arthur Randolph James II, Mary Leslie James, Courtney Marie James all of Corpus Christi, Tx., Five great-grandchildren, Stephanie McCraw, Taylor and Shawn Westhead, Samantha and Ian McCraw all of Anderson, S.C.

Catherine Cary McDonald, 97, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000 at Mel-Haven Convalescent Center.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 409 N. Third St., with the Rev. Dairy Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Woodland Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 3, 1903 in Centerville, Leon County, the seventh child of Henry Cary and Azilee Langford Cary. She received her formal education in Centerville, later moving to Corsicana to begin her adult life.

She invited Christ into her life at an early age. In 1927, she joined a group of relatives, friends and loved ones who had previously made a similar acknowledgement at Bethlehem Baptist Church under the pastorage of the Rev. A. Henderson. She exemplified Christ in her everyday living with her church responsibility and community affairs. She served as a member of the senior choir, missionary board, program chairlady, deaconess and a member of the pastor's aide.

She took an interest in church and community (Parkdale Addition) which she loved well. She touched many lives and provided shelter and food for those in need as well as a positive role model.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters and brothers; daughter, Edna; and sons, Paul, John and Booker T.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jerline Campbell of Los Angeles, Calif. and Atheree Wadley of Corsicana; six sons and six loving daughters-in-law, James Russell McDonald, Sam C. McDonald, Preston McDonald and Joe Nathan Brown, all of Corsicana, Peter McDonald of Fresno, Calif. and Bobby C. McDonald of Plano; 51 grandchildren; 99 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Steve Wynn of Rowlett; nieces, Janice Russ and Sidney McGraw, both of Corsicana; and a host of relatives and friends.

McELVANY LEON HAROLD, passed away in his home on Sunday, December 3rd. He was born on October 24, 1938, in Emhouse, Texas, to Tracy and Georgia McElvany. After graduating from the SMU School of Business in 1961, Leon enjoyed a long and successful career as a CPA with Deloitte and Touche, working as a Managing Tax Partner in their Los Angeles and Dallas offices. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 42 years; four children: Cathy Allshouse, Keith McElvany, Karen Johnson and Bryan McElvany; and six grandchildren: Shelby, Kevin, Lindsay, & Claire Allshouse and Emily & Scott Johnson. Don McElwreath, 65, of Cedar Park passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001 in Round Rock.

A private family graveside service will be held today at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Teri Hildebrand officiating.

Mr. McElwreath was born April 9, 1936 in Corsicana to Otis and Martha McElwreath. He was a graduate of North Texas State University. He owned Don McElwreath Real Estate Company where he was involved in land development, ranch sales and commercial real estate for the past 35 years. He was an avid classic car collector with a love of antique Fords from the 1930s and 1940s.

Mr. McElwreath is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Ken Holderbaum of Las Vegas, Nev. and Debbie and Randy Threadgill of Waco; sister, Doris Cowan of Sanger; granddaughters, Cassie Threadgill and Stacy Threadgill, both of Waco; nephew, Mike Cowan of Krum; and niece, Gial Green of Krum.

Mr. McElwreath was born April 9, 1936, in Corsicana, Texas, to Otis and Martha McElwreath. He was a graduate of North Texas State University. ODESSA William Thomas McFadden, 95, of Odessa, a maintenance worker, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Martinez Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. at Tamerisk Cemetery in Grandfalls.

He was born in Corsicana and had lived in Odessa since 1980. He was Baptist.

Mindon Paul McGahan, 50, of Seven Points "loved the Lord and has gone to serve the Lord in heaven." Services were held Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp, with the Revs. E. L. Ficklin and Allen Miller officiating. Interment followed at Shiloh Cemetery in Kaufman County.

He was born March 20, 1951, in Dallas to Hollis E. and Ester (Rozell) McGahan. He passed away Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Corsicana. Mr. McGahan loved everyone and never met a stranger. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the First Baptist Church of Seven Points. He will be missed by many friends and family.

Survivors include his mother, Ester McGahan of Seven Points; sister, Glenda Haley of Seven Points; sisters and brothers-in-law Peggy and Tommy Reynolds of Athens, and Mary Alice and Larry Starek of Seven Points; brothers and sisters-in-law Leon and Nancy McGahan of Merit, Texas, Homer and Debbie McGahan of Josephine, and Cody and Joan McGahan of Lavon; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were James McGahan, Gary Haley, Grady Haley, Dewey Haley, James Starek, and Jack Haley.

Vernon "Mutt' McGaugh, 76, of Tyler, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001 at a Tyler hospice facility.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home Chapel in Tyler with the Rev. Sherman Mayfield officiating. Burial will be in the Carmel Cemetery near Lindale.

Pallbearers will be Ed Dean, Mickey Johnson, Ron Green, Tom Rudd, Carl Owens, Billy McGwier and Jim Denson.

Mr. McGaugh was born Aug. 23, 1925 in Richland to the late Thomas Calvin and Hannah McGaugh.

He was the owner of Bell Finance Company of Tyler, Henderson, Palestine and Beaumont. He was a member of Richland Methodist Church, St. John's Masonic Lodge of Tyler, Henry Dell Lodge of Whitehouse, charter member of Sharon Shrine Temple, Board of Directors Emeritus Texas Consumer Finance Association, Past President of Texas Finance Institute and Past President of Texas Finance Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, L. T. McGaugh; sisters, Lola Mayo, Evie Keeling, Velma Shults Perry and Ema Burns.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Thelma McGaugh; daughter, Karen Enright; grandsons, Russel Enright and Trey Enright; great grandson, Ryan Enright, all of Whitehouse; brother Joe McGaugh of Corsicana; sisters, Mrs. E. B. Conrad of Whitehouse, Mrs. Vanus DeArmon of Waco and several nieces and nephews.

Services for Randall McGlaun, 76, of Lubbock will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Jantzen and the Rev. Rick Foster, nephew, officiating.

Burial will follow in Resthaven Mausoleum under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.

McGlaun died Sunday, March 14, 1999.

He was born in Corsicana and moved to Lubbock in 1945 from Bryan. He married Oma Lee Lightner on Dec. 25, 1942 in Draw. He retired from AAA Coffee Service in November 1996. He was a member of Trinity Church, where he was an usher and greeter. He was a member of the Prime Timers Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Monte of Abilene; a daughter, Tracie Narveath of Ransom Canyon; a brother, Grady Herrin of Borger; two sisters, Ann Lindsey of Dallas and Sarabeth Ratliff of Tulsa, Okla.; and five granddaughters.

Mrs. McGlohen was born April 10, 1928, in Eureka. She is a former resident of Corsicana.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Ray Pritchard and Kenneth McGlohen; grandson Terry Wade Brown; and her parents.

Mrs. McGlohen is survived by her daughters Betty Borsellino of Waco and Mary Lee and husband Terry Brown of Malakoff; brothers Aubrey Young of Corsicana and Robert Young of Streetman; grandchildren Carrie Borsellino, Jason and Dodie Borsellino, Casey and Sylvia Brown and Ray Brown; and two great-children.

Mr. McGraw was born June 23, 1927 in Blooming Grove to Robert and Viola McGraw. He was a rancher and also did pipeline construction work in Pakistan and Alaska.

Emmitt Leo McHenry Jr., 66, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 409 N. Third St., with the Rev. Dairy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. McHenry was born Feb. 21, 1935 in Corsicana.

MRS. MCKEY DIES SUNDAY MORNING

Mrs. Jennie Voss McKey, 78, died in Memorial Hospital Sunday morning.

Funeral Services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. from the Griffin chapel.

The rites were conducted by Claude B. Holcomb, minister, of the Fifth Avenue Church of Christ, of which she was a member. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

A native of Illinois, Mrs. McKey, the widow of the late J. W. McKey, had resided in Navarro county since five years of age.

Surviving are a son, George Thomas Voss; Roane, a daughter, Mrs. Hubert Elder; Corsicana, a stepson, Joe McKey; Austin, a step-daughter, Mrs. Edgar Gill; Lancaster, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a newphew.

Pallbearers were Henry Atkeisson, Delma Ware, Curtis Chandler, J. R. Hunter, Jude Perry, J. R. Murray, Roy Gowan and M. B. George.

Mr. McKie was born Dec. 2, 1949 in Corsicana. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Corsicana High School. He attended SMU and studied in New York City.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maydell Weatherby McKie.

Charles S. "Mac' McClanahan

Charles S. "Mac" McClanahan, 87, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev. B. F. Risinger and Brother Bill Honea officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Joe Sims Sr., Monty Trimble, Norman Gilcrease, Ross Maxfield, Harold Williamson and David Taylor.

Mr. McClanahan was born March 12, 1914 in Dallas to Lonnie and Hattie McClanahan. He graduated from Mexia High School in 1933, and played four years of football as a Mexia Black Cat known as "Spec McClanahan." He worked in the East Texas oil field until 1939.

After moving to Corsicana in 1939, he served during the war as a "lead-man" ship welder in the Houston shipyards. He owned and operated the Texaco Service Station on Seventh Avenue beginning in 1939. He began McClanahan Rentals in 1964, and opened the first automatic car wash in Corsicana in 1967. He expanded McClanahan Rentals to West Seventh Avenue in 1973, and retired in 1980 selling to his son Chuck.

Mr. McClanahan was an active member, Sunday school teacher of many years and deacon of First Baptist Church in Corsicana. He was an active member of Corsicana Noon Lions Club, First Baptist Church Solid Rockers Choir, Gideon International, and was a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a charter member of the Texas Rental Association and a member of the American Rental Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo L. McClanahan in 1990; and brothers, Virgil and Oneal McClanahan.

Mr. McClanahan is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Susan McClanahan of Corsicana; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Joe Garner of Lubbock and Lana and Dewayne Gragg of Corsicana; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Edith Smith of Tulsa, Okla. and Ouisa Robbins of Claremore, Okla.

Louise McNabb, 84, of Edgewood passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in Grand Saline.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Herschel LyBrand Funeral Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Edgewood with the Revs. David Tomme and Jim Ballard officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. McNabb was born July 13, 1916 in Drane, the daughter of the late Mary Ethel Atkinson McDonald and John McDonald. She was valedictorian of Frost High School. She later attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton. She then taught school in Chatfield and Bryan in Navarro County. She married Jim McNabb June 15, 1938 at Ross Avenue Baptist Church. In 1973, she and her husband moved to Edgewood from Dallas to make their home. She was very dedicated to teaching the young children when she was a member of East Grand Baptist Church in Dallas. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Edgewood where she taught the young children.

She is survived by her husband, Jim McNabb of Edgewood; son, Jim Houston McNabb and wife Nancy Quesada of Austin; daughter, Carolyn Smith and husband Conley of Denver, Colo.; brother, Hugh McDonald of Houston; five grandchildren, Shannon and Wade, Matthew, Andrew and Tyler; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Jacob.

Bummie Prater McReynolds, 90, of Corsicana, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2001 in Houston.

Services were 11 a.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Pastor B. F. Risinger officiating. Interment followed at Dawson Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Honea, Kenny Maxfield, Ross Maxfield, Harold Williamson, Wilson Griffin and Tom Lucas.

Mrs. McReynolds was born Feb. 4, 1911 in Dawson. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1943 where she taught in the children's department for 40 years and was a member of the sanctuary choir for 48 years. She was a 1928 graduate of Dawson High School. She received her bachelor's degree from North Texas University and her master's degree in education from East Texas State University. She taught school for 37 years, 33 of those for the Corsicana Independent School District. She was a member of Alpha Rho Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and Navarro County Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Harry McReynolds in 1938; parents, Jim and Nannie Prater; brothers, Irvin Prater, Lloyd Prater and Chester Prater; sisters, Winnie McCulloch and Thelma Walker; and sister-in-law, Coymae Prater.

Mrs. McReynolds is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Billy P. and Annie Marie McReynolds of Houston, J. Reba Alice Magee McSpadden, 89, of Corsicana and formerly of Blooming Grove, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Brother Mike Sellers officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. McSpadden was born March 25, 1911 in Blooming Grove to David Earl and Ida Elizabeth Magee. She attended schools in Blooming Grove and Dallas. She graduated from Blooming Grove High School in 1929. In her later years she also attended Navarro College. She married Clayton McSpadden Nov. 16, 1929 and instantly became a farmer's wife for many years. She worked for several years as a clerk for the Navarro County Tax Office, retiring in 1976.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton E. McSpadden in 1974; son, C.E. McSpadden Jr. in 1952; son-in-law, Delma Tipping in 1988; sister-in-law, Sue Magee in 1991; grandson, David Tipping in 2000; and great-grandson, Jeremy Tipping in 1999.

Mrs. McSpadden is survived by her daughters, Martha N. Tipping of Abbott and special friend Robert Hulsey of Waco, and Merle J. Mrs. Merritt was born Oct. 1, 1904, in Blooming Grove, Texas. She and George Lee Merritt were married Jan. 27, 1924, in Brownfield, Texas. He died June 21, 1986. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd R. of Frisco, Texas, and M. Doyle of Desert, Texas; a sister, Marie Pounds of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Theodore Sidney Metcalf, 78, of Waco passed away Sunday, June 17, 2001 in Temple.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with Gene Melvin Bowman officiating.

Mr. Metcalf was born Dec. 17, 1922 in Corsicana, the youngest son of Albert Sidney and Mattie Bell Roberts Metcalf. He attended Zion's Rest school and graduated from Corsicana High School Jan. 24, 1941. He entered the Army Air Corps at Randolph Field Feb. 4, 1941. He served in Waco Army Air Field, Independence, Kan., Greensboro, N.C., China, Burma, and India Theater. He was discharged Nov. 14, 1945 from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

He went to school on the G. I. Bill and attended Navarro Junior College. He received a bachelor of science degree in June 1941 from North Texas State College in Denton. He taught at Lee Elementary and Fannin Elementary in Corsicana. He received a master of education degree May 7, 1956 from East Texas State College in Commerce. He was with the Lancaster school, then went to Waco Independent School District. He loved teaching and retired due to ill health.

He married Mary Louise Gillispie March 21, 1942. He was a member of the Methodist church. Mr. Metcalf was a past president of the Classroom Teachers of Waco and was a lifetime member of NEA, TSTA and DAV Chapter 3 Frank Simpson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry Loyd, Ralph Lee and Albert Ray Metcalf; sister, Virginia Metcalf Jordan.

Mr. Metcalf is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Gillispie Metcalf of Waco; daughter and son-in-law, Teddy and Gene M. Bowman of Houston; son, Tommie D. Metcalf of Waco; grandchildren, John M. Bowman of Union city, Calif., Sarah Bowman of Houston, Jo Ann Metcalf-Vedder of Venus and Fred A. Metcalf of Venus; great-grandchildren, Justin D. Clellie Mae Miller, 94, of Abilene, died Friday in a local hospital.

Born in Rice, Texas, she lived in Abilene most of her life. She worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for 27 years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneer Club and the Southern Hills Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, David H. Miller of Abilene; one sister, Glennie Griffith of Big Spring; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Minatra was born April 11, 1929.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Effie Ganze; and brother, James Minatra.

Mr. Minatra is survived by his wife, Frances Minatra of Pursley; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Terry Brooks and Frances Jean and Joe Petrea of Pursley; sons and daughter-in-law, Billy Max Minatra of Richland and Roy Allen and Jackie Minatra of Alaska; grandchildren, Kristen Brooks of Pursley, Teresa Parnell of Corsicana and Christopher and Jessica Minatra of Alaska; great-grandchildren, Clayton James Parnell and Erin Freeman of Corsicana; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Jim Butler of LaPorte and Dorothy and Calvin Ganze of Pursley.

Billy C. Minatra, 72, of Pursley passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Chet Brake officiating. Interment will following at Marshall cemetery.

Mr. Minatra was born April 11, 1929 in Richland to Odie James and Effie Minatra. He served in World War II. He worked as an airplane mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Effie Ganze; and brother, James Minatra.

Ruben "Jody' Minatra, 74, of Corsicana, passed away Monday, March 26, 2001, in Corsicana.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Corley Funeral Chapel with Dr. Gary W. Johnson and the Rev. Tony Neal officiating. Interment will be at Eureka Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Rash, Lynn Bottoms, Jason Bottoms, M. R. "Bunk" Bottoms, Hollis Riggs and Paul Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Ray, Damon DeMoss, Ronnie Childress, Larry Boswell, Bob Pritchett, Jimmy D. Coker, Jason Coker and Jim Coker.

Mr. Minatra was born August 6, 1926, in Navarro County. He was an oil field pumper.

He was preceded in death by parents, Charlie and Lida Minatra; son, James Marion Minatra, one sister and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Fay Minatra of Corsicana; daughters, Nelda and Billy Gorden Jr. of Mildred, Deborah and Thomas Lee Yankie of Mildred and Cheryl Minatra of Dallas; sisters, Onalee Bragg of Athens and Nova Mathis of Brenham; grandchildren Terry Gorden, Shane Farmer, Melissa Riggs of Mildred, Ruben Yankie of Mildred, Chris Gorden of Corsicana, Tim Gorden of Kerens, and Tony Gorden of Malakoff and 13 great grandchildren.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Cedar Creek Hospice.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Dresden Cemetery with Brother Lonnie Keele officiating.

Mrs. Minze was born May 11, 1926 in Lone Cedar.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Minze; grandson, Dustin Burleson; parents, Bill and Sallie Fulton; and sisters, Gladys Beckham and Edith Hall.

Mrs. Miranda was a founding member of St. Andrew's Parish in Grand Prairie since 1947. Mary was active in the ReJabian Club and the Church Alter Guild. She was preceded in death by her husband Roland Miranda in 1995. Survivors include: 1 son & wife, Roland and Carol Miranda of Garland, 1 daughter & husband, Debra & Jim Busby of Austin, grandchildren, Nathan Jones of Plano, Matthew Wall of Austin.

Graveside services for Earl Eugene Mires, 61, of Mesquite, were Sunday, Dec. 10, at Kemp Cemetery, Kemp, with Rev. Dub Henry officiating.

Interment followed at Kemp Cemetery, under the direction of Anderson-Clayton Brothers Funeral Home, Kemp.

Mr. Mires died Dec. 7, 2000, in Mesquite.

He was born Feb. 15, 1939, in Dallas, to Harley E. and Edna (Sturdivent) Mires. Mr. Mires was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. His parents and a brother, Raymond Mires, preceded him in death.

Survivors include; daughter, Jana Mires of Gun Barrel City; sons, Douglas Mires and Larry Mires, both of Mesquite; grandchildren, Stephen Earl Mires and Keith Wayne Mires, both of Chatfield.


Thelma B. Mitchell

Services for Thelma B. Mitchell, 91, of Plainview will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Hoyt Cranfill officiating.

Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

She died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Hi-Plains Hospital in Hale Center.

She was born Aug. 28, 1908, in Corsicana. She married Alvin Mitchell on Oct. 31, 1929, in Lamesa. He died in 1983. She and her husband owned and operated Anton Dry Goods from 1949 to 1967. She was also a homemaker and a member of Lawrence Avenue Church of Christ where she taught Bible school. She was a resident of Anton from 1945 until 1997, when she moved to Plainview.

Survivors include two sons, Roger of Lubbock and Alvin Jr., of Abilene; two daughters, Jane Giddens of Plainview and Wanda Baker of Muleshoe; a sister, Irene Cotton of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.


Marie (Carson) Mitchell

Marie C. Mitchell, 89, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2001 in San Antonio.

Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel.

A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Chtay, Harry Clowe, John S. Finch, Walter Earl Parker and Phil Smith.

Mrs. Mitchell was born Jan. 10, 1912 in Corsicana to H. W. and Elizabeth C. Carson. She graduated from Corsicana High School in 1930, where she and her husband, Paul Mitchell, met and were in the coronation together. Mrs. Mitchell was active in the Garden Club and acted as president of the African Violets Society. She was also a member of Kinsloe House and president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce women's group. For many years she belonged to the Korweldeen (needlework spelled backwards) Club, and she enjoyed traveling with her buddies Snooks Clowe, Mary Frances Davis, Sarah Finch, Toots Garvin and Earlene Hall.

Her greatest joy was her family to whom she was devoted. Many of her fondest memories were of holiday family gatherings she made special. She was a beautiful person in every way with varied interests in needlepoint, gardening, reading and traveling. She had lived in San Antonio since Christmas 1999 and formerly lived in Corsicana for 87 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mitchell in 1992.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gay and Larry Cooper of San Antonio; daughter, Paula Mitchell of Mountain View, Calif.; grandsons, Kevin Mitchell Cooper of San Antonio and John Paul Elrod of Mountain View, Calif.; nephew, Dr. G. R. Robertson Jr. and his wife Mary of Gig Harbor, Wash.; nieces, Heather Anne Robertson and Gretchen Robertson of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Robertson.

Our beloved Marie C. Mitchell, age 89, passed away June 14, 2001 in San Antonio, TX where she lived since Christmas 1999. Our family thanks the staff of Brighton Gardens for their kindness, support and help. A special thanks goes to Susie and Margie. We also thank Megan, Melody, Adrienne, Rose and Shirley. Her greatest joy was her family to whom she was so devoted. Many of our fondest memories are of the holiday family gatherings she made so special. Thelma Mitchell

Thelma Mitchell, 87, of Corsicana passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001 in Palestine.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the Brushy Creek community near Palestine with the Rev. Oscar Verdell officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion-Brushy Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Mitchell was born Feb. 15, 1914 in Brushy Creek to Albert and Lula Collins Smith. She attended school in Brushy Creek and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho and had lived in Corsicana for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three husbands.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her niece, Annie Davis of Palestine; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
